Bad news: Hero president forced by Republicans into spending even more money on this election

posted at 4:53 pm on February 7, 2012 by Allahpundit

For a guy who’s allegedly so concerned about money in politics, he sure is good at getting money into politics. He broke his promise in 2008 to accept public financing once he realized he could raise three-quarters of a billion dollars. Despite his endless self-congratulation about not taking any dirty lobbyist money, he takes plenty of dirty lobbyist money. He demagogued the Chamber of Commerce before the 2010 midterms for not disclosing donors from whom it accepts cash, and now his own Super PAC is able to do that too. Before he’s done, he might succeed in building support on the right for campaign finance reform simply because Democrats and their union cronies are so remarkably skilled at running these big-money rackets that they claim to hate.

Anyway, like everything else, this is your fault. I hope you’re happy.

President Obama is signaling to wealthy Democratic donors that he wants them to start contributing to an outside group supporting his re-election, reversing a long-held position as he confronts a deep financial disadvantage on a vital front in the campaign.

Aides said the president had signed off on a plan to dispatch cabinet officials, senior advisers at the White House and top campaign staff members to make clear to donors that they should support Priorities USA Action, the leading Democratic “super PAC,” whose fund-raising has been dwarfed by Republican groups. The new policy was presented to the campaign’s National Finance Committee in a call Monday evening and was set to be announced Tuesday.

“We’re not going to fight this fight with one hand tied behind our back,” said Jim Messina, the manager of Mr. Obama’s re-election campaign. “With so much at stake, we can’t allow for two sets of rules. Democrats can’t be unilaterally disarmed.”…

The president will not attend fund-raising events, they said, but several members of his inner circle from the West Wing and his Chicago campaign headquarters have been designated to deliver speeches about the re-election effort. The intent is to imply his blessing for Priorities USA Action, which is run by Bill Burton and Sean Sweeney.

Note the boldface. I thought campaign coordination with a Super PAC is forbidden, but here they are holding campaign conference calls about O giving the green light to donors to start bankrolling Priorities USA. Jim Messina, Obama’s campaign manager, actually has a guest post at HuffPo today describing how cabinet officials will be made available to the PAC for fundraising events. Not only will they refuse to play by two sets of rules, in other words, but apparently they won’t even play by one. That’s okay, though; the “no coordination” rule is a lame legal fiction which no one takes seriously in the first place. If we’re going to let donors spend unlimited money on PACs that are working for the campaigns, we’re better off cutting out the middleman and ending the contribution limits to the campaigns themselves. Let people donate what they want directly and make campaigns take responsibility for the attack ads that that money pays for.

Here’s Carney looking constipated today at the White House plus, via Breitbart TV, a highlight reel of some of O’s greatest Super-PAC-bashing hits. Exit question: Will the Cardona brothers regift their refunded campaign donations to O’s Super PAC? They’re two totally different organizations, don’tcha know.

Yet Obama and the democrats did exactly this to our soldiers in Afghanistan. They tied soldier’s hands behind their backs with ROEs so that soldiers couldn’t fight back and as a result, many more died.

Imagine if Obama held the same standard for our soldiers that he holds for his “personal” fights.

Super PACs, anonymous donations, and money influencing the political process, are no longer a threat to democracy! It’s totally OK now! And it’s practical! When did we say it wasn’t? You can’t prove anything!

Can’t bring a knife to a gunfight.

Yeah, it’s a shame, but the GOP is teh suxor, so it must be so.

Remember the words of your President, liberals:

You gotta do more than just talk the talk. It’s the easiest thing in the world to talk about change at election time.

Preach it, President Obama!

Breaking: Fugitive Obama Fundraiser Linked to Fast and Furious

This has gone public, as has his $200,000 in fundraising done for Barack Obama. Obama has now returned the money, but the scrutiny on Cardona continues. It now appears that Cardona’s links to the organized crime world also ties him to the DEA, which ran Operation Fast and Furious. Cardona was allegedly involved with a top drug cartel across the border, which laundered millions with the help of the American government.

This election will see massive, unconstrained funding fraud by the Obama Admin. They pioneered the use of debit cards in 2008, but got got caught out when people traced the IP addresses of donors to internet cafes in the Gaza and Indonesia. Now the Obama campaign is issuing MOBILE credit card readers that can accept cash at a swipe from anywhere — combine that with pre-paid debit cards from some of their Big Banking pals like Chase, and sky’s the limit! We’re gonna see him throw $1 Billion+ into the ring!!

Deciding to break his word was easy (he does it all the time) and probably quick. After all, there’s only one factor to consider: if the proposed action serves Barry’s personal benefit. If it does, then the answer is always yes, regardless of what he’s previously said about it and regardless of how it may affect anyone else.

Deciding which box to check on the manner in which to spin the blatant hypocrisy of taking super PAC money, after years of telling us all how evil and unAmerican and unconstitutional it is, probably took a few seconds more.

You’re right, but do we really believe things will change that much with either the MA Moderate or the GA Moderate as President?

Aizen on February 7, 2012 at 5:20 PM

There is such a thing as being too cynical. There are numerous things that would change immediately, as long as a Republican, any Republican, is elected President. To name just a few:

01. Rollback of business-strangling EPA regulations and executive orders.
02. Reinstatement of defense cutbacks.
03. Approval of Keystone Pipeline, expanded drilling permit program.
04. More conservative judicial appointments.
05. More coherent foreign policy.
06. Lower deficits.

Much of the damage Obama would do in his next term would last for generations. Hoping for a “true” conservative in 2016 wouldn’t solve these problems…in fact, electing a “true” conservative at that point would just frustrate and confuse conservatives even more, because the country would continue to drift to the left under the domination of Obama’s judiciary, and conservatives would be angry that the new President couldn’t just snap his or her fingers and undo all of the damage.

You’re assuming the base is turning out in November and helps elect a full-blown Republican Congress, which I do not believe will happen.

At the end of the day, even if a Republican becomes President, the Congress will likely go Democrat as Barry’s final parting words are to beg the American people not to allow one-party rule of Washington, even though it was perfectly okay when he was first inaugurated.

A President Newt/Mitt/Santorum probably wouldn’t get much done with a Leftist Congress, but at least a President Paul could go after the Federal Reserve, bring home the troops and decriminalize marijuana.

I bet even his own daughters and wife garner this same look of hatred when they don’t bow before him, and I doubt moochele can bow at all, much less bow to him.

It’s ok. I hate him equally, if not more.

I personally believe that Obama planned to do this all along and that Bill Burton was in on it from the beginning.

I believe that David Axlefraud and Obama ordered Bill Burton to leave the administration and create a pro-Obama super PAC.

I would like to see Congress investigate all communications between Bill Burton, Barack Obama and David Axlefraud. This whole enterprise has Astroturf Axlefraud written all over it.

Contradiction in terms, don’t you think?

The thing about Obama’s flip-flops are that they aren’t just your standard flip-flop.

They start out with Obama being very arrogant and condescending in his ridicule of an issue or his opponent so that he can stake a claim of piety on his part, like he is such a virtuous person. Then when it benefits himself, he conveniently does an about face and takes the opposite position…all the while arrogantly claiming that his flip-flop was one of virtue.

I like to call it “The Audacity of a Dope”

Do you happen to know when, if ever, he was not on the public teat?

Vote for Newt or Santorum, and you’ll be all but guaranteed that this guy will win a second term.

Obama’s real heartache is the unadjusted unemployment numbers.

BTW, Allah. I wish you’d stop using that big photo of Obama; it frightens my children.

“… he’s got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll’s eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn’t seem to be living… until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then… ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin’.” – Quint

The NYT is stuck in fantasyland.

He [Obama] could have ridiculed Mitt Romney’s super PAC for accepting $18 million from just 200 donors in the second half of last year, including million-dollar checks from hedge-fund operators, industrialists and bankers.

To get some historical prospective, it has been said the the 1960 JFK campaign got about 80% of it’s funding from about 4 donors.

Back in those days, you could actually get campaign buttons for free.
