Quotes of the day

posted at 10:45 pm on February 3, 2012 by Allahpundit

“[O]ne source close to the organization’s leadership says a shake-up may be inevitable now that the organization has changed direction.

“‘Somebody besides Nancy Brinker is going to pay for it,’ the source said.

“The likely target is Vice President Karen Handel, who called for defunding Planned Parenthood during an unsuccessful run for governor of Georgia…

“Even if Handel isn’t forced out, it seems likely that the reversal could lead her to resign, just as it might drive away many abortion opponents who may see Komen as more closely identified with abortion rights than it did before it attempted to sever ties with Planned Parenthood.”

***

“[O]fficials across the organization said they were still reeling from the fallout of what many described as a public relations fiasco created by Komen’s leadership.

“‘I felt like we were eaten alive,’ said Logan Hood, executive director of Koman’s Aspen affiliate in Colorado. ‘We had no advance warning. . . . We were sent into battle without armor.’…

“The affiliate has already lost $50,000 in corporate sponsorship for a Race for the Cure next fall. Farmer Sherman said she has scheduled meetings Saturday to try to make amends with supporters.

“‘There are some relationships that are, perhaps, irrevocably damaged,’ she said.”

***

“The liberal blacklist. Of course I support anybody’s right to withhold money or approval from any organization for any reason. But let’s just be clear what’s going on here. Komen broke ranks, and for the cultural left, that cannot be understood, forgiven, or overlooked; Komen must be ruined. Nothing Komen or Nancy Brinker has ever done for women in 30 years matters to these people. This is war…

“You know, the more I think about it, the more I realize this is a clarifying moment. Think of it! Three decades of service to women fighting breast cancer, and having raised and distributed … nearly $2 billion towards that goal, means absolutely nothing to these people now trying to destroy Komen. They could have denounced Komen’s decision, but in light of all Komen has done, and still does for women, turned their ire on the Republicans, the Religious Right, and so forth. But no, Komen broke ranks, and it must be dealt with harshly. And the sympathetic mainstream media is helping them do the job. All this reminds one of exactly what we’re dealing with here: what John Paul II called the culture of death. It is helpful to be reminded which side you’re on.”

***

“Look, the beauty of free speech is that, if you’re inclined to do so, you can write a check to PP in an act of solidarity, or write a check to Komen as an expression of moral approval. That’s all fine. But there’s something quite a bit different, something creepy and not a little despicable, about the Planned Parenthood set’s besmirching Komen’s good name across a thousand platforms for having the audacity to stop giving them free money. And I don’t care why that decision was made, frankly. If it was made because PP is controversial and under congressional ‘investigation,’ that’s a perfectly valid reason for an organization to disentangle itself. If it was made because they judged that money would have a greater impact if directed toward the provision of actual mammograms and not just clinical screenings, that makes sense. And if the decision was made because a controlling faction at Komen feels a moral disgust toward the dismemberment of viable fetuses and would rather not subsidize an outfit that does that 300,000 times a year — well that’s fine, too. None of those rationales justifies the outrageous non-sequiturs about how Komen ‘hates poor women.’

“Imagine I volunteered to run a cub scout troop, and for years, when the annual soapbox derby came near, I knew I could count on Joe’s Deli as good for a hundred dollar donation. If one year Old Man Joe decided he didn’t want to donate any more — because he didn’t like the design of our racer, or because he thought his hundred bucks was better spent on a little league team, or because he disapproved of the scouts’ stance on gays — what on earth would justify me going on public access TV to grill Old Man Joe on why he hates kids? What would justify me hacking the Joe’s Deli web site or maliciously editing Old Man Joe’s Wikipedia page? What would justify me goading a handful of my city councilman into standing up at the next town meeting and publicly calling on Old Man Joe to reinstate his donation?”

***

“House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said the Susan G. Komen foundation’s retreat from its decision to eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood is a victory for women’s health…

“‘It was an unfortunate situation but it was dealt with in a short period of time, [and] I commend the Susan G. Komen foundation for seeing the light on this,’ Pelosi added. ‘[It] just goes to show you, when women speak out, women win. Women’s health has a big victory this morning.’”

The really sad part is that SGK capitulated to the human garbage leftish trash clownshoe primate thug adolescent animals in human skin, and they did so right after raking-in a huge amount of donations from people willing to support them for their stand.

So SGK kicked everyone on the right straight in the teeth and decided they would rather suck up to liberal slime maggots than stand tall.

Pro-abortion legislators, backed by Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America, are trying to force prolife pregnancy centers to shut their doors and end their life saving work.

Planned Parenthood wants to eliminate its competition by passing local laws in cities across the country that violate free speech and silence prolife advocates. The ACLJ is defending a majority of the prolife pregnancy centers in New York City in federal court, fighting to allow these prolife centers to continue their lifesaving work. Please stand for life and sign our petition today.

I am pro life in all instances except defense. I must confess to not following this issue much if at all. The article seems to imply Komen is guilty of playing two sides of a same coin. If true, it is turning out about like one might expect. The two views cannot cohabitate the same mass/space.
Sarah Kliff and N.C. Aizenman
Again, pretty much the same point as the first article. The politicization is because of the abortion aspect of the arrangement. The only chance for these two to coexist are separately.
Rod Dreher
This article seems to indicate that the blame lay with the left’s tactics to destroy someone’s views which may be disagreeable to theirs. Perhaps this is true it is certainly a tactic of the left. I know, I have had it done to me. In this instance the truth is probably closer to what the two articles above state. The left only knows the knee jerk reaction to silence and demean any dissenting view. The right will also employ this tactic however, but not in this instance.
Daniel Foster
The gist here is folks have an inherent right to chose which charity’s they will or will not donate to. This is a correct position and does in fact put the reversal at odds with its own philosophical
position. Once the decision was made it should have been held. Folks are free to go elsewhere. It bookends with a fatal flaw in liberal thought, it is the same reason they will never truly understand the marketplace economy.
Video 1 I won’t watch. It appears Nan is taken up the pro choice no other choice position. Sheer nonsense. Exactly what you expect from Nan.
Video 2 Allah, I am sorry but I just couldn’t get through the video after Boxer started her rant. One day when RvW is over turned heads will explode. It is my hope that by convincing folks through reason as to why abortion is wrong that we may one day become a pro life country again. My fear is that we may all end up meeting in the streets first. Passions are strong on both sides of this coin. Hope for reason to prevail some day.

Blizzard update:

Very dark all morning with low clouds. Started with cold drizzle and sleet about noon. About 3 PM the snow began.

Have had heavy, heavy snow coming down since 3 PM. Winds picking up.
City is totally quiet. Nothing moving.

Have opened the drapes and moved my comfy leather recliner in a position to observe God’s artwork. He does wonders in blizzards, as in everything else. Gorgeous blizzard. Supposed to continue through early Sunday.

All stocked with food, wine, Mozart and God’s magnificence outside.

Cheers!

I feel sorry for the fools who rushed to give money to Komen. I knew the cave was coming. Now they have millions more to give to PP. PP used this for their own multi-million dollar fundraising.

End of the day… the butchers are chest deep in cash… a lot of which is coming from Pro-Lifers.

The Breast Cancer fundraising in this country has been, since day 1, built on feminism. That is, while there is nothing wrong with supporting research (my mother is a survivor), we all have to pretend that breast cancer is only cancer that exists, lest we be called misogynist bigots… while more men are diagnosed with prostrate cancer each year and more people die from rectal and lung cancer.

While I appreciate ACLJ and all of the great work they do and understand what the PP and other organizations are about, not sure petitions make any difference. During the battle against Obamacare, it didn’t make a bit of difference. Neither did faxes/phone calls or emails.

From that experience, donations to ACLJ would be a better way. Just my opinion.

bluefox on February 4, 2012 at 12:59 AM

I wasn’t really promoting the petition, just making a point about PP.

I agree with you to about donating, though. It’s a better way.

JannyMae on February 4, 2012 at 1:32 AM

They are now off the list for us. Obviously abortions are more important than births. One wonders what breasts are then for. Aloha.

pat on February 4, 2012 at 1:45 AM

Hey RickB, Mitt became a republican? Will wonders never cease? Why wasn’t I told? Is Mitt Romney what a god looks like, while they still need training wheels? Questions, questions, questions.

What’s your nipple for? Just curious.

bazil9 on February 4, 2012 at 2:36 AM

Very poor timing for Komen to announce they were cutting off PP, coming on the heels of Obama shoving contraception and abortion down the throats of Catholic hospitals and insurance plans. That stimulated the bloodlust of the Left which could only be sated by more butchered babies. Komen stepped into the crossfire.

There is only one solution to this…

… Show a sonogram of an abortion.

Seven Percent Solution on February 4, 2012 at 2:52 AM

Serious question, the day after pill…what will they see?

Seven Percent Solution on February 4, 2012 at 2:52 AM

Brutal… I don’t believe I could get through it… but as long as we are going to go there, let’s not screw around. Forget the sonogram, and get one of those fiber-optic cameras they now have… full color, high-def, front row. Then, turn it loose on the You Toobs…

Roe v Wade overturned in less that 2 years from the public outcry.

That’s what I was thinking, too (only not so colorfully). I wonder if those who donated can successfully demand their donations returned?

DrMagnolias on February 4, 2012 at 6:21 AM

It disgusts me to see all those women freak out and become enraged when they think there is some threat to their ability to kill innocent babies. These people are scum, as far as I’m concerned.

Sometimes you can just tell by looking at them that they are obsessed with abortion. They are hideous. I don’t how to describe it. Yes, they’re ugly, but it’s more than that. They are ugly in a cold, evil, troll-like way. Call me crazy, I don’t care, but I can see the vileness in their faces whenever they coldly minimize the worth of the unborn life. They are nothing short of Nazi-like in their inhumane lack of feeling when they, in a robotic and sterile way, talk of killing unborn children.

Oh, and any man who brags about his “pro-choice” stance in order to kiss up to these witches is a wuss and a not a real man.

bluegill on February 4, 2012 at 7:03 AM

When Republican presidential candidates were asked recently to cite their biggest mistake, Romney replied: “Probably from a political standpoint and a personal standpoint, the greatest mistake was when I first ran for office, being deeply opposed to abortion but saying, ‘I support the current law,’ which was pro-choice and effectively a pro-choice position. That was just wrong.

The truth is, when Romney ran for office in Massachusetts he went far beyond saying, “I support the current law.”

He begged voters to accept him as an embracer of abortion rights. “I believe that abortion should be safe and legal,” he said. He staked his credentials on his mother, Lenore. He said she ran for the Senate in 1970 on an abortion-rights platform, inspired by the death of her son-in-law’s teenage sister from an illegal abortion. “My mother and my family have been committed to the belief that we can believe as we want, but we will not force our beliefs on others on that matter. And you will not see me wavering on that,” he said. Source

Flora Duh on February 4, 2012 at 7:42 AM

The 1973 Supreme court decision to allow abortion in the first trimester effectively relegated the fetus to non-human status, assuaging the minds and consciences of the people. When the Nazis thought of and taught to others that the Jews were less than human, it became easier to kill them. History repeats itself.

Flora Duh on February 4, 2012 at 8:12 AM

Data from the FL FOX News exit poll.

Which comes closest to your position? Abortion should be:

Legal in all cases: Gingrich 25% – Romney 58% – Santorum 3%

Legal in most cases: Gingrich 28% – Romney 52% – Santorum 7%

Illegal in most cases: Gingrich 35% – Romney 43% – Santorum 15%

Illegal in all cases: Gingrich 45% – Romney 32% – Santorum 17%

Notice who got the majority of those saying abortion should be legal in all cases. Makes one wonder why, doesn’t it?

Flora Duh on February 4, 2012 at 8:19 AM

Goodbye Komen, sleep in the bed you have made.

If anyone ever had any doubt about SCOAMF dedication to the destruction of the unborn, this should clear this up

Just a small sample:

http://www.lifenews.com/2010/11/07/obamaabortionrecord/

April 7 – Put more abortion advocates on his White House advisory council for faith-based issues.

February 12, 2009 – Obama nominates pro-abortion Elena Kagan to serve as Solicitor General.

February 27, 2009 – Starts the process of overturning pro-life conscience protections President Bush put in place to make sure medical staff and centers are not forced to do abortions.

February 28, 2009 – Barack Obama nominates pro-abortion Kathleen Sebelius to become Secretary of Health and Human Services.

March 5, 2009 – The Obama administration shut out pro-life groups from attending a White House-sponsored health care summit. Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business, made the invitation list as did other pro-abortion groups.

March 9, 2009 – President Barack Obama signed an executive order forcing taxpayer funding of embryonic stem cell research.

gdonovan on February 4, 2012 at 8:28 AM

I agree, and it really bothers me to take that stance. I have 2 nieces who are breast cancer survivors. In support of them I have participated in the Komen Foundation pink ribbon campaigns and their “Walk for a Cure” events, but no more. And had I done my homework and known that Komen had funded Planned Parenthood I would have never supported them in the first place.

In other words, my money is your money, and your baby is my responsibility. Now I get it! ‘All together now, we all live in a yellow submarine.’

More logic: Pelosi’s dumb as a rock. Therefore, the people who continually voted for her are…. my fellow Californians. ‘As we live a life of ease, everyone of us has all we need.’

The shiny object she’s chasing has her mesmerized. Hey, bluegill! Go play in traffic!

Naturally Curly on February 4, 2012 at 8:53 AM

It’s not about the money for PP, it’s about not ever losing the battle for their principle of being able to provide women’s health care aka killing as many babies as they can. Strange how this came out the same time as the mandate for Catholic hospitals to provide contraceptives. I don’t believe in coincidences either.
