Jim Moran: Allen West isn’t representative of African-Americans

posted at 5:25 pm on February 1, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via Mediaite, does Moran mean West isn’t representative of blacks generally or that he wasn’t representative of them specifically when he said Obama, Pelosi, and Reid should “get the hell out of the United States of America”? He’s on the right network and the right show for cheap racial demagoguery aimed at a minority conservative, but I’m thrown by what he says at the beginning in claiming that West isn’t representative of the GOP either. That’s an unusual concession coming from a Democrat in attack mode, especially when he’s got Sunshine here egging him on.

Ah well. After that first flush of ambiguity, he settles into a standard racially-tinged “you’re selling out your roots” jag against West:

He just seems clueless now that he has climbed aboard ship. He’s climbed this ladder of opportunity that was constructed by so many of his ancestors’ sweat, sacrifice, blood. You know, they did everything they could for his generation to be successful. But now that he’s climbed on board ship, instead of reaching down and steadying the ladder, he wants to push it off. You know, “I’m up here. If you’re not with me, too bad.” And President Obama, fortunately, is the kind of guy that says, “I was very fortunate to get where I am and I’m going to spend my life trying to steady that ladder of opportunity by reducing college tuition and training our workers, trying to get a decent job for everybody. Making sure that while I’m African-American, it really doesn’t matter. What matters is my commitment to public service, my love for this country and, you know. I’m going to leave a constructive legacy.’”

I was … not aware that West opposes lower college tuition, well-trained workers, and jobs. I’d bet cash money that he supports all three so long as they’re being driven by the private sector, precisely because the private sector can build that ladder better than government can. But then, that’s why Moran tossed the “ancestors” reference in there — to use the notion of race treason as a deterrent against minority viewers who might otherwise agree with West about government intervention in markets. It’s one of Democrats’ most brutal tactics and it’s not limited to black Republicans. The boss emeritus has had trolls tossing “race traitor” nonsense at her literally for decades, yet I’d be surprised if even one has bothered trying to explain why Americans of Filipino ancestry should be seen as selling out their heritage by preferring smaller government. The logic seems to be that she’s a minority and minority conservatives are “inauthentic” and, well, there you go. QED.

That’s clip one. Clip two, via the MRC, speaks for itself; skip ahead to around 11 minutes in and listen to radio host Thaddeus Matthews strip Moran’s point of its Beltway-speak patina to its rawest, most vicious form and then throw it in the face of Republican Charlotte Bergmann. Nice to see this argument naked for once.

SHE DIDN’T ANSWER THE QUESTION.

And he’s a whore of the left……and oddly enough a RACE NAZI.

PappyD61 on February 1, 2012 at 7:28 PM

And yes, when you’re being hunted and killed by the KKK,

libfreeordie on February 1, 2012 at 6:57 PM

Yes black America was hunted by the KKK….the same KKK started by democrats that liberals like you conveniently try to pass off as “not real democrats.”

Tell us libordie……
…How “racially progressive” is it for the President of the United States to openly support racist like the Black Panther’s who call for the genocide of the white race??????
To march side by side with them and take their money.

…..How “racially progressive” is it for a President to have sat in a church for 20 years whose foundation was built on Black Separatist theology
of Cone…a separatist that Wright embraces with great affection:

Here is a quote from Cone, explaining black liberation theology (hat tip: Spengler, a pseudonymous columnist for the Asia Times):

Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community. . . . Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.

…maybe libordie could explain how this racist call for genocide is any different than the KKK’s…..

…of course Obama was glad to write books and spend 20 years in a Church whose main theme had nothing at all to do with “racial equality”:

Trinity Baptist Church

We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian… Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain “true to our native land,” the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.
Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They must reflect on the following concepts:

1. Commitment to God
2. Commitment to the Black Community
3. Commitment to the Black Family
4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic
7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect
8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness”
9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community
10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions
11. Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System
12. Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.

This blatant racism is going on right now libordie……and is supported 100% by the democratic party.
Maybe you should quit wasting everybody’s time with your “But look what happened in the south many decades ago” and start addressing the disgusting racism in your party today.

If the KKK bothers you so much then why didn’t blacks demand an apology from Robert Byrd?

Because it would make Christopher Dodd sad.

“I do not think it is an exaggeration at all to say to my friend from West Virginia [Sen. Robert C. Byrd] that he would have been a great senator at any moment. . . . He would have been right during the great conflict of civil war in this nation.”

Of course, because everybody knows those redneck NASCAR fans are the biggest racists of all. And what do they do at a NASCAR event?

Race!

-Liberal Logic 101

Flora Duh on February 1, 2012 at 7:12 PM

Leftists have absolutely no problem with Auto Racing, as long as it’s the “correct” Auto Racing.

Auto Racing was invented by the Elite/Effete Leftist people in France, and even today Far Left actor Paul Newman’s Racing Team still bears his name, even though he has been dead for years.

There are Auto Racing tracks in plenty of Blue States; many of the storied ones are in fact in Democrat strongholds like Connecticut, NY, PA, and CA. And the Democrat Institutionalized Ghetto known as Detroit hosted the first ever Grand Prix race held in the US. It’s now held on an island just offshore.

But since NASCAR originated with bootleggers in the old Democrat South, it is to be ignored by the Left. Maybe because they are ashamed at how the Democrat Elders who ran the South behaved in those days?

Del Dolemonte on February 1, 2012 at 7:37 PM

Great points….

…and this infantile bigotry by the left toward NASCAR is even more hilarious
when you consider the massive amount of science and engineering that goes into racing that all those “dumb rednecks” are applying.

God knows the intellectual clout that is needed by liberals sucking down their latte’s and gorging on their arugula is far surpassed by anything those country bumpkins are doing with those evil race cars.

libfreeordie on February 1, 2012 at 6:45 PM

Come on super lib……
Let’s start seeing some explanations for the blatant racism going on in your “progressive” party:

The Black Caucus has already admitted that they would be on the White House lawn raising he!! right now……if we didn’t have a black President with a (D) beside of his name.
……

CBC’s Cleaver: We would be ‘marching on the White House’ if Obama weren’t president

posted at 5:45 pm on September 18, 2011 by Tina Korbe
http://hotair.com/archives/2011/09/18/cbcs-cleaver-we-would-be-marching-on-the-white-house-if-obama-werent-president/

“If (former President) Bill Clinton had been in the White House and had failed to address this problem, we probably would be marching on the White House,” Cleaver said. “There is a less-volatile reaction in the CBC because nobody wants to do anything that would empower the people who hate the president.”
In effect, Cleaver is saying that the CBC has dealt differently with this president precisely because he’s black. How is that OK? Either we envision a world in which we are judged by the content of our character and not the color of our skin or we don’t. What do Cleaver and the other members of the CBC dream of?

….oh sorry…my fault. Having a (D) beside of his name has nothing to do with it…it is straight up because he is black.

So we have the head of the CBC stating publicly that he is not holding the President accountable for the dreadful conditions of the black community now because of the color of his skin……..

Hey libordie….could you help us out with the definition of racism????…
….or better yet…the “liberal” definition of racism that apparently gives democrats a total pass for passing judgments on others based on the color of their skin.

Baxter Greene on February 1, 2012 at 7:55 PM

Hey now, that kind of language will get you castigated by libfree! Of course, we should all ignore that he’s 100% okay with an old out-of-touch condescending white dude’s racism as long as it serves his progressive goals.

Good Solid B-Plus on February 1, 2012 at 7:57 PM

The progressive wing the Democrat Party has pretty much of the same mentality toward Blacks today that it did when it promoted slavery, when it’s states seceded from the union, and when it reinstituted segregation along with Jim Crowe, the Black Codes, and the likes of the KKK after the Civil War. The history of this party is pretty sad, but the revisionists have made certain that those times simply never existed.
Don’t know if it’s still the case, but not too long ago when one visited the DNC web site, they had a ton of stuff there about Jefferson and Jackson…but then seemed to totally forget the period in their history from say, 1840-1960. Oh well, not worth getting angry over…I guess.

mooseygoosey on February 1, 2012 at 7:57 PM

Why do you people *always* reference slavery when referring to the relationship between the Democratic party and African Americans. But then you get pissed off when leftists argue that slavery is a central part of American history and the founding of the nation. Does slavery have repurcussions in the current world or not?

libfreeordie on February 1, 2012 at 5:57 PM

The same reason Debbie whines about civility while calling Republicans terrorists.

Besides, this is in response to calling black people “Uncle Tom,” just because they happen to disagree politically. Calling the DNC a plantation is just keeping with a theme people in the above videos started.

I believe they’re called liberals. Amongst Republicans its about as dirty a word as “Uncle Tom.”

libfreeordie on February 1, 2012 at 6:02 PM

O…K. But then “conservative” is also a dirty word among Democrats, so you haven’t really found the counter to a racial slur there.

And I guess I don’t understand why its worse to accuse someone of wanting to destroy the nation than it is to call someone inauthentically black. Can you stretch your mighty brain cells and make a case for that please?

libfreeordie on February 1, 2012 at 6:34 PM

You can’t? Well, one is racist and the other is a disagreement on what’s best for the country. Neither should be OK in polite company.

SpiderMike on February 1, 2012 at 8:23 PM

Bill Randall (soon-to-be Representative from NC) posted this on his Facebook page…

I just got off the phone with Charlotte Bergmann. She is a strong woman who loves the LORD. She is not seething, nor is she holding any ill feelings towards the talk show host. But she did express sadness that his display was the exact OPPOSITE example of what someone should exhibit to people in the Black community. Last, but not least, she went on the show AT THE REQUEST of Mr. Matthews. Yikes!

SouthernGent on February 1, 2012 at 8:26 PM

Indeed Jim Moran is a an upstanding American with unimpeachable credentials.

Here are some Moran gems :

During his tenure as mayor of Alexandria, Moran was reportedly accused of assault, though no charges were ever filed. One Alexandria police officer who declined to be identified out of fear for his job said, “The mayor was clearly guilty of assault on more than one occasion, but the word came down. The mayor was off limits. Ordinary citizens go to jail. Not the mayor.”

In April, 2000 parents of an 8-year-old boy filed a complaint against Moran for allegedly assaulting their son who was admiring Moran’s car. “He choked me and then cussed at me,” the boy told The Washington Times. “I thought he was going to kidnap or kill me…All I told him was that I liked his car.”

Moran has been married three times. His second wife, Mary Howard Moran, filed for divorce in 1999 after an argument at the couple’s Alexandria home which resulted in a visit by the police. The Congressman provided his own divorce papers a few months later, and in 2003 the couple officially separated.[92] He remarried in 2004 to real estate developer LuAnn Bennett. On December 23, 2010, Moran and Bennett announced they plan to divorce.

Yes, Jim Moran is a paragon of virtue. ( sarc )

Compared to him, Allen West looks like a Saint.

I’m not. I find the clutched pearls on the topic to be entirely disingenuous. Calling Allen West an Uncle Tom is racist. But calling black people who vote for Democrats as having a “plantation mentality” is equally racist. Imagine how it feels to have honest policy differences with conservatives and being accused of being a “radical socialist who hates the nation, the troops, wants the republic to die and takes glee in killing babies.” The vitriol in our political discourse is a two way street. The right (in an odd little twist) acts as if an accusation of racism is the *worst* crossing of the line, but calling people “baby killers” is somehow just a “difference of opinion.” Isn’t accusing someone of racism also a “difference of opinion” under that rubric?

Perhaps we should work on encouraging the people in our lives who say things like Allen West is an Uncle Tom or that black people live on a “welfare plantation” to get their lives right. And push for civility. It’d be a start.

Allen West is a great American, he doesn’t pretend to speak for blacks, he speaks for freedom-loving Americans. Do you speak for whites because you’re white?

Mark7788 on February 2, 2012 at 12:33 AM

Narutoboy.

Good Solid B-Plus on February 1, 2012 at 7:36

Blast from the past. He was something special.

arnold ziffel on February 2, 2012 at 12:54 AM

Now let me guess how many black families lived in that lily white liberal suburb… hypocrisy point #428 I always find interesting.

Odie1941 on February 1, 2012 at 11:07 PM

About as many as care to move into or close to, ah, ‘diverse’ low-income housing projects. Their survival instincts quickly take priority over their idiotic mentality. Suggest it to one and watch the transformation – I swear it’s like flipping the switch.

There’s also the old joke: “what do you call a liberal with a teenage daughter? A conservative!” It goes double if their daughter falls for a young black punk with no father in the house and raging hormones…they either ‘get conservative’ or they get an illegitimate grandbaby.

MelonCollie on February 2, 2012 at 1:06 AM

Why does MSNBC always use pasty faced Irishmen to question the bonafides of African American men? Moran, Mathews, O’Donnell, Maddow…who gave these guys the right to pretend they’re Black?

Kenz on February 2, 2012 at 1:37 AM

Correction: Maddow is NOT Irish.

Sooooo much hate and racism; and it is all coming from the liberal side.

I live in Moran’s district. We just call him Mr. Moron.

OLD VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and
laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.
The grasshopper has no food or shelter,
so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE OLD STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

MODERN VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house
and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.

CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC
show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with
a table filled with food.
America is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is
allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah
with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green..’

ACORN stages a demonstration in front of the ant’s house where the news stations film the group singing, We shall overcome.

Then Rev. Jeremiah Wright
has the group kneel down to pray for the grasshopper’s sake.

President Obama condemns the ant
and blames President Bush, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for the grasshopper’s plight.

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has
gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper,
and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act
retroactive to the beginning of the summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and,
having nothing left to pay his retroactive
taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant’s food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant’s old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn’t maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow,
never to be seen again.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize and ramshackle, the once prosperous and peaceful, neighborhood.

The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest
of the free world with it.

Spots the Dog on February 2, 2012 at 5:53 AM

You don’t know the half of it. The man is a flat out commie. He whines about the racism behind having to show a photo ID to vote and then demands you show ID to get into his Town halls. Part of his strategy of stuffing these faux events with “constituents” that are nothing but union folk.

And the really sad part is that he is so gerrymandered in place with pockets of commies, liberals, and aging hippies that the rest of us virtually have no voice in Congress.

Happy Nomad on February 2, 2012 at 7:15 AM

After watching Jim Moran for years, I’d like to say he doesn’t represent Democrats. However, after watching him, Obama, DWS, etc. I’d have to say he is a good Democrats, representing their racist, hateful views, quite well.

bflat879 on February 2, 2012 at 7:26 AM

Could you imagine the outrage and screams of racism if a Republican said this about Obama?

albill on February 2, 2012 at 7:30 AM

I’d have to say he is a good Democrats, representing their racist, hateful views, quite well.

bflat879 on February 2, 2012 at 7:26 AM

Yeah, had a Republican called a black politician a clueless and ungrateful hyena, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be organizing marches, Democrats would be lined up on the floor of the House to condemn their colleague, and all the other race industry stuff would kick into action.

Happy Nomad on February 2, 2012 at 7:51 AM

Moran is a racist moron.

Roy Rogers on February 2, 2012 at 8:02 AM

Liberals sure do hate it when their slaves escape the plantation, don’t they?

CDeb on February 2, 2012 at 8:03 AM

I can envision Jim Moran, sitting on his veranda of his plantation house, sipping a mint julip surrounded by his faithful African American servants. “Well now…thank you loyal George. Don’t forget to vote for me in the next election. Here’s your check. Now don’t forget who gave that to you!” Oh…and by and by…don’t pay any attention to that evil Alan West. He’s just an uppity house n——r trying to stir up something amongst you boys. I’m the one who takes care of you. When has he ever given you anything?”

sdd on February 2, 2012 at 8:07 AM

Glad to see an old white GOP Establishment-entrenched dinosaur attempt to speak for blacks within the GOP. The GOP should be touting West for VP after what he said about obama in Florida, and instead, these gutless, brainless politically-correct embracing old f@rts who should have been put out to pasture long ago are attacking and want to silence / get rid of guys like West who are giving voice to what the rest of America truly feels!

easyt65 on February 2, 2012 at 8:34 AM

History has never seen white trash define what it is to be a good little boy, has it?

MNHawk on February 2, 2012 at 8:59 AM

Jim Moran: Allen West isn’t representative of African-Americans

It’s hard to argue with that statement, but not for the reasons you might think.

cajunpatriot on February 2, 2012 at 9:06 AM

WOW! Breathtaking. Thaddeus Matthews really hates white people.

Say, when they talk about the “99%’ers”, are they talking about negro black african-american support for Barack Obama?

olesparkie on February 2, 2012 at 10:31 AM

I can list dozens and dozens of examples. Black families buying suburban homes in Detroit in the 1940s being firebombed by their “new neighbors.” Puhleeze.

libfreeordie on February 1, 2012 at 7:06 PM

How many northern states had Jim Crow laws?
How many northern states were slave states?
Which side fought to end slavery and which side fought to keep it?
Besides, I could list doxens of examples of Irish being attacked by Italians, and vice versa, and lots of other races and nationalities not getting along. So what? In that respect blacks just aren’t that special.
You just keep trying to sidestep questions and ignore facts and paint the whole country and everyone in it with the same brush.
I grew up in a multi-racial family in the 60s and 70s and I saw for myself that Massachusetts and Maine were very different from Maryland and Virginia.

You CLAIM to be black (a claim I question based on your comments) and CLAIM to be offended with the plantation references, but you keep defending the people (libs, Dems) who want to keep the black population dependent on government handouts – i.e. the government plantation. Either you just aren’t very bright, or you’re one those so dependent on the government handouts that you can’t bring yourself to criticise the hand that feeds you, or you’re actually one of the Dem plantation masters trying to keep the others under your control. Which are you? Take your pick.

dentarthurdent on February 2, 2012 at 11:09 AM

The real racists are the ones who think all African-Americans must think alike, or they’re not really African-American.

taznar on February 2, 2012 at 11:10 AM

Matthews: We need a program to change their consciousness… (paraphrasing)

Gosh, Thaddeus, what would THAT look like? Isn’t that what every fascist dictator does?

Mr_Magoo on February 2, 2012 at 11:11 AM

Jim Moron is the most disgusting, deceitful, criminally corrupt, racist specimen of canine fecal matter to ever soil the ground of northern VA.

Sorry, dog duty./

Moran was trying to impress Bashir with lib talk and Marty
slobered it all up like a good little limey / import.
