Jim Moran: Allen West isn’t representative of African-Americans

Via Mediaite, does Moran mean West isn’t representative of blacks generally or that he wasn’t representative of them specifically when he said Obama, Pelosi, and Reid should “get the hell out of the United States of America”? He’s on the right network and the right show for cheap racial demagoguery aimed at a minority conservative, but I’m thrown by what he says at the beginning in claiming that West isn’t representative of the GOP either. That’s an unusual concession coming from a Democrat in attack mode, especially when he’s got Sunshine here egging him on.
Ah well. After that first flush of ambiguity, he settles into a standard racially-tinged “you’re selling out your roots” jag against West:
He just seems clueless now that he has climbed aboard ship. He’s climbed this ladder of opportunity that was constructed by so many of his ancestors’ sweat, sacrifice, blood. You know, they did everything they could for his generation to be successful. But now that he’s climbed on board ship, instead of reaching down and steadying the ladder, he wants to push it off. You know, “I’m up here. If you’re not with me, too bad.” And President Obama, fortunately, is the kind of guy that says, “I was very fortunate to get where I am and I’m going to spend my life trying to steady that ladder of opportunity by reducing college tuition and training our workers, trying to get a decent job for everybody. Making sure that while I’m African-American, it really doesn’t matter. What matters is my commitment to public service, my love for this country and, you know. I’m going to leave a constructive legacy.’”
I was … not aware that West opposes lower college tuition, well-trained workers, and jobs. I’d bet cash money that he supports all three so long as they’re being driven by the private sector, precisely because the private sector can build that ladder better than government can. But then, that’s why Moran tossed the “ancestors” reference in there — to use the notion of race treason as a deterrent against minority viewers who might otherwise agree with West about government intervention in markets. It’s one of Democrats’ most brutal tactics and it’s not limited to black Republicans. The boss emeritus has had trolls tossing “race traitor” nonsense at her literally for decades, yet I’d be surprised if even one has bothered trying to explain why Americans of Filipino ancestry should be seen as selling out their heritage by preferring smaller government. The logic seems to be that she’s a minority and minority conservatives are “inauthentic” and, well, there you go. QED.
That’s clip one. Clip two, via the MRC, speaks for itself; skip ahead to around 11 minutes in and listen to radio host Thaddeus Matthews strip Moran’s point of its Beltway-speak patina to its rawest, most vicious form and then throw it in the face of Republican Charlotte Bergmann. Nice to see this argument naked for once.

Leftists have absolutely no problem with Auto Racing, as long as it’s the “correct” Auto Racing.

The progressive wing the Democrat Party has pretty much of the same mentality toward Blacks today that it did when it promoted slavery, when it’s states seceded from the union, and when it reinstituted segregation along with Jim Crowe, the Black Codes, and the likes of the KKK after the Civil War. The history of this party is pretty sad, but the revisionists have made certain that those times simply never existed.
Don’t know if it’s still the case, but not too long ago when one visited the DNC web site, they had a ton of stuff there about Jefferson and Jackson…but then seemed to totally forget the period in their history from say, 1840-1960. Oh well, not worth getting angry over…I guess.

I was raised to be a Lefty in one of the most Left-wing, insular suburbs in this entire country. One of the things that always puzzled me growing up was that, according to the Left, people with certain skin colors were supposed to act and think a certain way. Period, end of story.
I knew this was wrong and it bothered me for many years. After a long time of studying history, economics, and various opinions (both Left and Right) I eventually gave up on the Progressive ideology. I choose to judge people by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. In other words, I’ve been an American conservative my whole life, I just didn’t know what the conservative philosophy actually was.

I’m not. I find the clutched pearls on the topic to be entirely disingenuous. Calling Allen West an Uncle Tom is racist. But calling black people who vote for Democrats as having a “plantation mentality” is equally racist. The uneven levels of outrage demonstrate that West’s defenders don’t actually care about racial justice. And I think nearly all of them would say that the cause of “racial justice” is over.

Imagine how it feels to have honest policy differences with conservatives and being accused of being a “radical socialist who hates the nation, the troops, wants the republic to die and takes glee in killing babies.” The vitriol in our political discourse is a two way street. The right (in an odd little twist) acts as if an accusation of racism is the *worst* crossing of the line, but calling people “baby killers” is somehow just a “difference of opinion.” Isn’t accusing someone of racism also a “difference of opinion” under that rubric?
Perhaps we should work on encouraging the people in our lives who say things like Allen West is an Uncle Tom or that black people live on a “welfare plantation” to get their lives right. And push for civility. It’d be a start.

Which side fought to end slavery and which side fought to keep it?
Besides, I could list doxens of examples of Irish being attacked by Italians, and vice versa, and lots of other races and nationalities not getting along. So what? In that respect blacks just aren’t that special.
You just keep trying to sidestep questions and ignore facts and paint the whole country and everyone in it with the same brush.
I grew up in a multi-racial family in the 60s and 70s and I saw for myself that Massachusetts and Maine were very different from Maryland and Virginia.
You CLAIM to be black (a claim I question based on your comments) and CLAIM to be offended with the plantation references, but you keep defending the people (libs, Dems) who want to keep the black population dependent on government handouts – i.e. the government plantation.
