You dumb racist conservatives are dumb. And racist.

posted at 12:20 pm on January 27, 2012 by Jazz Shaw

I first caught wind of this story from our good friend Fausta, and it seems like a suitably silly note to help wrap up an already strange and unusual week. We’ve got a brand spanking new, rootin’ tootin’ study, fresh off the press from a distinguished group of scientists. (And I can tell they were scientists because I checked, and most of them were wearing white lab coats.) In it, we find what we already suspected about the party that hates science, clings to their guns and their God, and disapproves of Barack Obama not because of his damaging policies, but because he’s black. Yep… you guessed it. Turns out that conservatives are stupid. And racist.

There’s no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

“Prejudice is extremely complex and multifaceted, making it critical that any factors contributing to bias are uncovered and understood,” he said.

But… but… wait a minute here! I thought IQ tests were useless and reflected environmental effects at a far greater level of impact than any inherent capacity to acquire and retain knowledge? I’m almost sure I read that in Gods and Guns Monthly or something. But, as Fausta points out, James Taranto beat me to the punch.

So IQ tests are racist, except when they’re used to “prove” that people with “socially conservative ideologies” are racist and intellectually inferior.

TheRoot.com has an article arguing that the Republican presidential candidates are racist. It’s about as uninteresting an argument as you can find–but the headline is revealing: “Colorblind Racism: The New Norm.” That Orwellian term, “colorblind racism,” is the pithiest summation we’ve ever encountered of the absurdity of contemporary left-liberal racial dogma.

It also turns out to be a product of academia: The idea of “colorblind racism” was hatched by Eduardo Bonilla-Silva, a professor of sociology at Duke University, a decade ago. Here’s a paper on the subject from the journal Critical Sociology.

Taranto goes on to posit that some of these completely unbiased, intellectually curious academic institutions may have something of a vested interest in proving their point. You see, as the economy continues to falter and conservative, austerity leaning measures begin to take hold and spread at both the state and federal levels, the wellspring of cash which fuels the universities begins to dry up as well. And not to cast aspersions on anyone’s intellectual honesty here, but coming up with a result that casts doubt on the people threatening to dry up your grant money might not be the worst outcome in the world.

But don’t take my word for it. Click through and read both the results of the study and Taranto’s rebuttal. (And for you conservatives in the audience, that would be the left button on your mouse. Frankly, I’m amazed you figured out how to turn the computer on in the first place.)

Daikokuco on January 27, 2012 at 1:44 PM

So you’re claiming that it was Nixon’s strategy. He took office in 1969, so we can use that as a starting point. In Massachusetts, the hub of New England, the Democrats controlled both the chambers of the state legislature and had a majority of the Congressional offices, including Senator Ted Kennedy. By 1975 all of that was still true, with the addition of the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, etc. This, of course, is the state where largest city was controlled for more than a century by various Democrat machines, most notably that of James M. Curley. It’s also the state of the Fitzgeralds and Kennedys.

Republicans traded California, Washington, Oregon, the Northeast, and the Upper Midwest for the South. They traded the rich, educated, dynamic regions’ votes for the votes of a bunch of bible-thumping Southern racists. It was the stupidest thing probably the Republicans have ever done.

I’m a little tired of the “Southern Racist” stereotype from idiots who never really lived in the south other than their internet testimonial. The most blatant racism I’d ever witnessed was in the North. Remember, the north won the civil war by raping, killing, and burning women, children, AND slaves across the south. They didn’t have any more noble and enlightened view of slaves than the south did. They wanted the southern economy to play by their rules. They wanted the work to be done by white workers, not slaves. The “civil war”, as most wars boil down to, was about economics. Sure there were people that wanted to end slavery for the right reasons. But they existed on both sides.

And no, republicans didn’t trade anything for the south. Nor did they suddenly become racist. They moved south looking for JOBS and thus the south became more republican. In other words, the north mixed into the south. Republicans also took a large PR hit when Goldwater voted against the civil rights act. Doesn’t matter to the dems that Goldwater voted for previous acts, was a member of the NAACP, and only voted against it after legal scholars insisted parts of it were unconstitutional. He knew he would pay a political price but voted against it anyway. Now what is better? A principled vote in favor of the constitution but not politically wise, or (as JFK did) a simply political vote? JFK wouldn’t even get behind the act for fear of losing Dixiecrats. Only when polling showed overwhelming support for more neighborhood integration did JFK jump in front of the issue and claim to be the leader. The real leaders were people like MLK who helped to bring the public around. White politicians didn’t do that. Yet it is the white politicians that jumped in front of the crowd and shallowly claimed credit for leading them that are held up as civil rights heroes.

cicerone on January 27, 2012 at 2:08 PM

And I guess all those enlightened die-hard democrats in decaying urban areas are the cream of the crop in terms of intellect. Oh wait, if they were, why are the neighborhoods decaying?

I wonder how these brilliant liberals can reconcile the fact that some of the most die-hard democrat areas also have some of the worst schools, i.e. the institutions supposedly designed to give youngsters the ability to better themselves, keeping those areas impoverished and saturated by crime and violence.

I’m sure they’ll think of some way to blame the evil Republicans, but, being as brilliant as they are, they’ll know that they’re just playing rhetorical games. Of course, being so brilliant, they know that years and years of Democratic control of government at the local level has caused such decay, deliberately so. People will be much more likely to vote for the Democrat’s policies when they rely on them for government “assistance.” And I don’t care if you’re black, white, brown, yellow, green, purple, turquoise, or indigo, wards of the state will constantly vote for the expansion of the state.

It’s just a shame that the intellectuals behind American liberalism have to take advantaged of traditionally underprivileged groups, perpetuating their suffering, rather than actually trying to win an election honestly. I guess ideological rigidity cannot be sacrificed for the betterment of the nation.

So give me my dumb, stupid, racist, socially conservative people, at least they aren’t operating a modern-day plantation system based on class-warfare and racial-warfare rhetoric.

jayhawkingeorgia on January 27, 2012 at 2:09 PM

Of course, the underlying premise here is idiotic: that political conservatives are harboring “prejudices” against others.

It’s not surprising that people with poorly developed thinking skills are the most likely to harbor reflexively hostile prejudices against their fellow men.

But that’s a false characterization of the mindset and beliefs of political conservatives. The false premise invalidates the main conclusion being touted here.

melle1228 on January 27, 2012 at 2:14 PM

So, just so I understand liberal “logic” –

Arguing with a bigoted slander = being defensive, hence proving the truth of said slander.

Not arguing with a bigoted slander = acceptance of the truth of the bigoted slander.

I call BS on the “liberals are smart” theme.

mikec3 on January 27, 2012 at 1:42 PM

You are correct, good sir. I point you to Jeanine Garofalo, who astutely reminded GOP voters that voting for a black man (read: Herman Cain) was an attempt to hide our racism. While at the same time, not voting for a black man (read: Barack Obama) proves we are racist.

The circular logic makes one’s head spin (pun intended).

So, you may as well stick a hayseed between your teeth, put on your straw hat and overalls, fire up a southern drawl, and start calling all black folks the n-word. ‘Cuz no matter what we do, it proves us to be racist.

The more you scream about it, the more you project your failings onto your political opponents, the more transparent you become to everyone.

Liars and hacks, the lot of you. You try to blame people for being racists, for stereotyping others based on where they live or what culture/race they belong to, but here you are defending an attack that is based on that very thing. Political persuasion is determined by Phrenology, as any educated person would know. Size of skull, number of protuberances along the surface, whether eyebrows are thick or scanty, thickness of bone about the brow, disposition of hair on the brow, general configuration of skull vis a vis the neck. All of these and more determine the political leanings of a person. An adept at the science, by visual observation and manual examination about the skull surface, can determine with a high degree of certainty whether a human subject is liberal, conservative, or has criminal tendencies..

kenny on January 27, 2012 at 1:49 PM

Phrenology

Really? Phrenology accounts for the way most people acquire their political persuasions? Bet you also believe that astrology determines it, too.

This is a quote from the article linked above:

“Although phrenology has been thoroughly discredited and has been recognized as having no scientific merit, it still has its advocates. It remained popular, especially in the United States, throughout the 19th century and it gave rise to several other pseudoscientific characterologies, e.g., craniometry and anthropometry.”

But I guess it’s not surprising that some people believe in phrenology. They are likely the same people who believe there is global warming.

Most people I know make no consideration about a person’s skin color whatsoever in evaulating them as a productive member of society. It appears to me that the ones that keep reminding the country of a person’s race are the liberals. “We have to do X for the black man, and we need to do Y for the hispanic man.” Why can’t we just do X and Y for the men? Why do we have to do for them because they are black or hispanic? Are you implying that they need help because they are black or hispanic? Isn’t that a rather racist view in and of itself?

Exclusively by the left…not by you, because you are not a liberal; you are a sockpuppet, for pay, or simply for entertainment.

David Duke is a registered Republican. Deal with it. Racists and bigots find comfort in the republican party.

Most people I know make no consideration about a person’s skin color whatsoever in evaulating them as a productive member of society. It appears to me that the ones that keep reminding the country of a person’s race are the liberals.

It is the way they keep their power. The put people in groups and make sure they think that the “other” group doesn’t understand them as much as the governmental Democrats. Most people I know don’t fit into neat little groups based on one trait.

angryed on January 27, 2012 at 2:27 PM

If Republicans / conservatives were racist, they wouldn’t be denying it they’d be arguing their racist positions.

Since they aren’t, the new commie tactic is to accuse conservatives of using “code” or “dog whistles” to speak racist to one another.

You know, like when Democrat Hugo Black used to flash Klan hand signs at juries when he was defending whites charged with murdering blacks or Roman Catholics.

Schadenfreude on January 27, 2012 at 2:28 PM

Political persuasion is determined by Phrenology, as any educated person would know. Size of skull, number of protuberances along the surface, whether eyebrows are thick or scanty, thickness of bone about the brow, disposition of hair on the brow, general configuration of skull vis a vis the neck. All of these and more determine the political leanings of a person. An adept at the science, by visual observation and manual examination about the skull surface, can determine with a high degree of certainty whether a human subject is liberal, conservative, or has criminal tendencies..

kenny on January 27, 2012 at 1:49 PM

Hitler held the same belief in phrenology like you do, turned out he was a psycho…and guess what, by the 1860s phrenology had been totally discredited as a science, especially in the light of new brain research by scientists like Broca, new knowledge of the psyche, and the development of psychoanalysis…but all this is lost on you, could be your lower than average IQ to blame?? just sayin’…

“On Tuesday at the State of the Union, I laid out my vision for how we move forward,” President Obama said at a campaign event in Las Vegas, Nevada. “I laid out a blueprint for an economy that’s built to last, that has a firm foundation. Where we’re making stuff and selling stuff and moving it around and UPS drivers are dropping things off everywhere.” -Obooba

Proof of the thesis that conservatives are idiots and liberals are more smarter. I mean, who wouldn’t admire the brilliance of the president’s analysis of the nation’s economic needs?

The Democrats have always based their political appeal on racism. But instead of appealing to white voters by keeping the blacks down with Jim Crow laws based on the supposed inferiority of blacks, today they appeal to black voters with Affirmative Action laws based on the supposed inferiority of blacks.

But it’s still racism to the core, no matter which side of the racial divide they’re pandering to at any particular moment.

Akzed on January 27, 2012 at 2:40 PM

I don’t know what all the fuss is about.

This appears to be highly accurate – people who are racists or prejudiced are stupid, as are most conservatives.

Want proof? Find a video of the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings.

Those fellows on the Committee who opposed Thomas were obviously very, very stupid racists. Biden? Kennedy? and the others must have had the Battle Flag of Northern Virginia tattooed on their butts.

Of course, it was understandable. Thomas is really dumb and had to go get him a white woman to marry, unlike that brainiac, Robert “Kleagle” Byrd, who stuck to his own kind.

Now, Lesbo Kagan and The Wise Latina – That’s some high-class intelligence there.

The entire liber-all klan and all blue states have gone completely nuts in this country.

And, being the kind, thoughtful people that AGW-doubting, gun-clinging, God-lovers naturally are, we’ll send Obama on a permanent vacation, so he can heal in peace.
