You dumb racist conservatives are dumb. And racist.

posted at 12:20 pm on January 27, 2012 by Jazz Shaw

I first caught wind of this story from our good friend Fausta, and it seems like a suitably silly note to help wrap up an already strange and unusual week. We’ve got a brand spanking new, rootin’ tootin’ study, fresh off the press from a distinguished group of scientists. (And I can tell they were scientists because I checked, and most of them were wearing white lab coats.) In it, we find what we already suspected about the party that hates science, clings to their guns and their God, and disapproves of Barack Obama not because of his damaging policies, but because he’s black. Yep… you guessed it. Turns out that conservatives are stupid. And racist.

There’s no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

“Prejudice is extremely complex and multifaceted, making it critical that any factors contributing to bias are uncovered and understood,” he said.

But… but… wait a minute here! I thought IQ tests were useless and reflected environmental effects at a far greater level of impact than any inherent capacity to acquire and retain knowledge? I’m almost sure I read that in Gods and Guns Monthly or something. But, as Fausta points out, James Taranto beat me to the punch.

So IQ tests are racist, except when they’re used to “prove” that people with “socially conservative ideologies” are racist and intellectually inferior.

TheRoot.com has an article arguing that the Republican presidential candidates are racist. It’s about as uninteresting an argument as you can find–but the headline is revealing: “Colorblind Racism: The New Norm.” That Orwellian term, “colorblind racism,” is the pithiest summation we’ve ever encountered of the absurdity of contemporary left-liberal racial dogma.

It also turns out to be a product of academia: The idea of “colorblind racism” was hatched by Eduardo Bonilla-Silva, a professor of sociology at Duke University, a decade ago. Here’s a paper on the subject from the journal Critical Sociology.

Taranto goes on to posit that some of these completely unbiased, intellectually curious academic institutions may have something of a vested interest in proving their point. You see, as the economy continues to falter and conservative, austerity leaning measures begin to take hold and spread at both the state and federal levels, the wellspring of cash which fuels the universities begins to dry up as well. And not to cast aspersions on anyone’s intellectual honesty here, but coming up with a result that casts doubt on the people threatening to dry up your grant money might not be the worst outcome in the world.

But don’t take my word for it. Click through and read both the results of the study and Taranto’s rebuttal. (And for you conservatives in the audience, that would be the left button on your mouse. Frankly, I’m amazed you figured out how to turn the computer on in the first place.)

David Duke tied ran for office as a republican
liberal4life on January 27, 2012 at 1:00 PM

Senator Robert Byrd, D-WV: Byrd is a former member of the Ku Klux Klan and is currently the only national elected official with a history in the Klan, a well known hate group. Byrd was extremely active in the Klan and rose to the rank of “Kleagle,” an official Klan membership recruiter. Byrd once stated that he joined the Klan because it was effective in “promoting traditional American values.” Byrd’s choice of words speak volumes about his bigotry considering the fact that the Klan is a notorious hate group, and the racist “values” it promotes are anything but American. One of the earliest criticisms of Byrd’s Klan ties came in 1952 when he was running for Congress. Byrd responded by claiming that he had left the Klan in 1943 while noting that “(d)uring the nine years that have followed, I have never been interested in the Klan.” Byrd was lying, however, as he engaged in correspondence with a Klan Imperial Wizard long after he claims to have ended his ties with the hate group.
In a letter to the Klan leadership dated 3 years after he purported to have ended his ties with them, Byrd wrote “I am a former kleagle of the Ku Klux Klan in Raleigh County and the adjoining counties of the state. The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia.” Byrd continued his racist diatribe “It is necessary that the order be promoted immediately and in every state of the Union” and followed with a request for assistance from the hate group’s leadership in “rebuilding the Klan in the realm” of West Virginia.
Byrd’s racism extends far beyond his Klan membership. In a letter he wrote on the subject of desegregating the armed forces, Byrd escalated his racist rhetoric to an appalling level. In the letter, Byrd vowed that he would never fight in an integrated armed services noting “(r)ather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”

Byrd’s racist opinions have shown their ugly face in his behavior in the Senate. Byrd led the filibuster of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and, according to the United States Senate’s own website, filibustered the legislation to the bitter end appearing as one of the last opponents to the act before a coalition of civil rights proponents led by Republican Minority Leader Everett Dirksen invoked cloture so that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 could pass. At the time, Byrd was in the midst of a 14 hour and 13 minute filibuster diatribe against the key civil rights measure. Throughout the 1960′s, Byrd was one of the staunchest opponents to civil rights in the U.S. Senate. Byrd’s racist history drew attention recently when he went on national television and repeatedly used the n-word, one of the most vicious racial slurs in existence, in an appearance on national television. Byrd uttered the slur on Fox News Sunday with Tony Snow on March 5, 2001. Despite the appalling nature of the remark, it went largely ignored by the mainstream media and the self appointed “civil rights” leadership. Whereas a similar remark by anyone other than a leading Democrat Senator would assuredly prompt the likes of Jesse Jackson to assemble protest rallies demanding resignations, the Jackson crowd was eerily quiet following Byrd’s remarks, issuing only low key suggestions that Byrd should avoid making such bigoted remarks.

In a sickening recognition of Byrd’s appalling political career, the national Democrat party has done nothing but embrace the West Virginia senator with leadership roles and practically every honor imaginable. To this very day the Democrats call former Klansman turned U.S. Senator Robert Byrd the “conscience of the Senate.” They have embraced him as their party’s central pillar in all ways possible. Byrd has been reelected more times than any other Democrat senator, has served as a Democrat in Congress, a Democrat State Senator in West Virginia, and a Democrat State Delegate in West Virginia. Democrats have made repeatedly elected Byrd into their national party leadership and into the U.S. Senate leadership. He became secretary of the Senate Democrat Caucus in 1967, and Senate Democrat Whip in 1971. The Democrats elected former Klansman Byrd as their Senate Majority Leader from 1977-1980 and as their Senate Minority Leader from 1981-1986. Byrd was again elected Democrat Majority Leader from 1987-1988. Democrats made Byrd the chairman of the powerful Appropriations Committee and President Pro Tempore of the Senate from 1989 until the Republicans won control of the Senate in November 1994. Following the defection of Jim Jeffords in June 2001, the Democrats again made Byrd the chairman of the Appropriations Committee and elected him to the highest ranking office in the Senate: the President Pro Tempore, a position which also put this former Klansman 4th in line for the presidency. Byrd lost his position when Republicans retook the Senate in late 2002, but continues to serve as one of the highest ranking members of the Democrat Senate leadership today. [Written before Mr. Byrd descended into Hades.]

Representative Dick Gephardt, D-MO: Gephardt, the former Democrat Minority Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, gave several speeches to a St. Louis area hate group during his early years as a representative. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Gephardt spoke before the Metro South Citizens Council, a now defunct white supremacist organization, during his early years as a congressman. Newsmax.com further reported that Gephardt had openly asked the group for an endorsement of his candidacy during one of his many visits with the organization. Gephardt has long avoided questions about his past affiliation with this group.

I’m referring to the already mentioned “Southern Strategy”. To do it Republicans had to cater to the bible-thumping prejudice of the Southerners. Which naturally led them to Republicans losing New England, the whole West Coast, and the big cities of the North. Those were all Republican strongholds, for about a century by the way. The same way the South was a racist democrat stronghold for a century.

I am an academic statistician; I take this study apart at Low IQ & Liberal Beliefs Linked To Poor Research?.

What makes the study ludicrous, even ignoring the biases, manipulations, and qualifications just outlined, by the authors’ own admission the direct effect size for “g” on “racism” is only -0.01 for men and 0.02 for women. Utterly trivial; close enough to no effect to be no effect, and statistically “significant” only because of the massive sample size.

He does know that. He also knows, unlike you, that the Republicans deliberately courted these southern racists. The south had been violently racist for more than a hundred years, and voted democrat all that time. Beginning in the 1970s, Republicans foolishly flipped the South, and incorporated the social conservative racists. Now the racist states in the South are heavily “Republican”. Republicans traded California, Washington, Oregon, the Northeast, and the Upper Midwest for the South. They traded the rich, educated, dynamic regions’ votes for the votes of a bunch of bible-thumping Southern racists. It was the stupidest thing probably the Republicans have ever done.

Food clothing, medical care, full time job. Who would want to leave the plantation when you’ve got it made like that? Modern democrats are the ol’massas. Give them food, clothing, medical care, rent subsidies, energy subsidies, and a free liberal education. If we can keep ‘em on the plantation they’ll vote for us every time. Here’s a starting point for some of you who have no idea what liberal4life or I are talking about.

“In American politics, the Southern strategy refers to the Republican Party strategy of winning elections in Southern states by exploiting anti-African American racism…”

Its funny, when Obama was spewing about the “success of Detroit” during the SOTUA – I went “huh??? The southern states ability to manufacture with higher quality tradesmen and right to work is why American car companies are coming around – while leaving Detroit and the Midwest and their brutal union laws.

SC/Tenn/Alabama/Georgia/Miss are all flourishing with quality labor – with a higher profit margin than the Midwest cesspools…

But hey – its those dumb, southern rednecks Obama wants to target -and piss off by giving them zero credit.

Or… the social programs thrust through Congress by Dems created “walking welfare programs” that saw a huge influx of people leaving the South and moving NE/West – primarliy to Urban areas… that are now controlled by… you guessed it – Democrats!.

Democrats shifted their Geo base of racial oppression for votes as evidence by the large growth of minority urban areas and Dem control vs rural conservative flips down South.

This not only was the dem intent – but is the fabric of their political base – bombard states with urban minority areas for votes (NY/California/Ohio/Penn) in trade for perpetual government subsidises and votes.

The Southern strategy is a myth played out by Democrats, but does not play out by history

“Timing may provide the greatest gap between the myth and the actual unfolding of events. Only in the 1980s did more white Southerners self-identify as Republicans than as Democrats, and only in the mid-1990s did Republicans win most Southern House seats and become competitive in most state legislatures. So if the GOP’s strength in the South only recently reached its zenith, and if its appeal were primarily racial in nature, then the white Southern electorate (or at least most of it) would have to be as racist as ever. But surely one of the most important events in Southern political history is the long-term decline of racism among whites. The fact that these (and many other) books suggest otherwise shows that the myth is ultimately based on a demonization not of the GOP but of Southerners, who are indeed assumed to have Confederate flags in their hearts if not on their pickups. This view lends The Rise of Southern Republicans a schizophrenic nature: it charts numerous changes in the South, but its organizing categories are predicated on the unsustainable assumption that racial views remain intact.

What’s more, the trend away from confident beliefs in white supremacy may have begun earlier than we often think. David Chappell, a historian of religion, argues that during the height of the civil rights struggle, segregationists were denied the crucial prop of religious legitimacy. Large numbers of pastors of diverse denominations concluded that there was no Biblical foundation for either segregation or white superiority. Although many pastors remained segregationist anyway, the official shift was startling: “Before the Supreme Court’s [Brown v. Board] decision of 1954, the southern Presbyterians. . . and, shortly after the decision, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) overwhelmingly passed resolutions supporting desegregation and calling on all to comply with it peacefully. . . . By 1958 all SBC seminaries accepted black applicants.” With considerable understatement, Chappell notes that “people—even historians—are surprised to hear this.” Billy Graham, the most prominent Southern preacher, was openly integrationist.

melle1228 on January 27, 2012 at 1:39 PM

Chip on January 27, 2012 at 1:33 PM

No, social conservatives do, and thats why are toxic to the Republican Party and should be sent back to the Democrat Party where they came from.

All the people providing examples of how racist the democrats were in the 1960s aren’t helping their case, because 90% of those 60′s racist democrats became Republicans in the 1970s.

I sympathize with the OLD Republican Party, the one that didn’t cater to the prejudices of Southern so-con racists. The one that solidly held the Northeast, the big cities, and the West. The democrats are traditionally the party of the racist, the stupid, the backwards, and the rural. But the Republicans deliberately sought out those votes, at the expense of the educated, wealthy, industrious votes of the advanced states.

Really?

That statement goes beyond Orwellian, it puts the “Moron” in “Oxymoron.”

kenashimame on January 27, 2012 at 1:43 PM

No, social conservatives do, and thats why are toxic to the Republican Party and should be sent back to the Democrat Party where they came from

You are just a bigot against social conservatives, and are using your ignorance bigotry to support you bias. The Southern “racist” strategy is a myth that are perpetrated by Democrats, and to support your bias you are using Democrat talking points. Congratulations!

The Republican party is the party that fought and ended slavery. The first blacks in congress were Republican. Democrats fought to keep slavery in the South. Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, segregated Washington DC. He was a racist and Darwinist and considered the constitution just a piece of paper.

The GOP could do a lot better at getting the message out of their proud and rich history of ending slavery and promoting life and liberty. But no, they just sit their on their hands.
Obama, the man who wants to make us all slaves to the US government, actually publicly uses Abraham Lincoln, the first Republican President who ended slavery, as his own personal icon. And the GOP just sits their on their hands. How’s he get away with that? Because the GOP just sits their on the hands.

Daikokuco on January 27, 2012 at 1:49 PM

Political persuasion is determined by Phrenology, as any educated person would know. Size of skull, number of protuberances along the surface, whether eyebrows are thick or scanty, thickness of bone about the brow, disposition of hair on the brow, general configuration of skull vis a vis the neck. All of these and more determine the political leanings of a person. An adept at the science, by visual observation and manual examination about the skull surface, can determine with a high degree of certainty whether a human subject is liberal, conservative, or has criminal tendencies..

You cannot and do not know how ‘social conservatives’ evaluate people.

But are you in agreement with liberal4life incessantly judging people based on skin color?

Which political party choose their candidate for president in 2008 based at least partially on skin color?

David Duke is a registered Republican. Deal with it. Racists and bigots find comfort in the republican party.

“The original targets of the Ku Klux Klan were Republicans, both black and white, according to a new television program and book, which describe how the Democrats started the KKK and for decades harassed the GOP with lynchings and threats.

An estimated 3,446 blacks and 1,297 whites died at the end of KKK ropes from 1882 to 1964.”

Al Gore, Sr. did not stop at simply voting against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In addition, Congressional Quarterly reported that Gore attempted to send the Act to the Senate Judiciary Committee with an amendment to say “in defiance of a court desegregation order, federal funds could not be held from any school districts.” Gore sought to take the teeth out of the Act in the event it passed.

So, to summarize the REAL American position on their tremendous collective intellect and openmindedness:

1. Robert Byrd (deceased) was in the KKK, y’all! In the 1950′s in WV!

2. That Lincoln fellow was a Republican and he freed the slaves!

3. Crafty southern-types produce better automobiles then the fools in the midwest. Obama knows this and refuses to give credit to these highly skilled southern assembly-line workers. This is because he’s racist!

4. South Carolina is now a swing state and is “fixin” to show the libruls who’s boss by voting for Willard in November.

5. The democrats are the REAL racists.

6. Nascar involves strategy.

Thank you for the laughs!

Chip on January 27, 2012 at 1:50 PM

The same party that the racist “social conservatives” migrated from less than 30 years ago. Hell, if you look at their state votes, as melle brought up, they didn’t even complete their migration from the democrat party until about a decade ago. Racist social conservatives need to be sent back to the party they came from and were the core of for more than a hundred years – the Democrat Party.

Labor Unions are also a longtime democrat consticuency. If they started voting Republican would you embrace them? I wouldn’t, just like I don’t embrace social-con racists who really belong to the Democrat Party.

Daikokuco on January 27, 2012 at 1:49 PM

You are so simple in your thinking. How about the fact that the Northern states are largely in debt and are pro-union. Could that be why they vote Democrat. I know that Illinois is a mostly Republican state, but because the majority lies mostly in Chicago- it goes Democrat. A lot of the big “Republican” states have urban areas that effect the rest of the states politics. You can see this shift even in Southern states like Georgia(Atlanta).

The more away from a city you get; the More you get MIDDLE CLASS voters who want to be left alone by the government. These are the backbone of the Republican pary. Keep spinning though if it makes you feel better about your prejudgices.
