Quotes of the day

posted at 10:43 pm on January 27, 2012 by Allahpundit

“The president began with a moving tribute to the armed forces and their accomplishments. But as he has done many times now, he celebrated martial virtues not to rally support for the military, but to cover himself in glory — he killed Osama bin Laden! — and to convince the American people that they should fall in line and march in lockstep

“It’s far worse than anything George W. Bush, the supposed warmonger, ever said. Bush, the alleged fascist, didn’t want to militarize our free country; he tried to use our military to make militarized countries free…

“Of course, Obama’s militaristic fantasizing isn’t new. Ever since William James coined the phrase ‘the moral equivalent of war,’ liberalism has been obsessed with finding ways to mobilize civilian life with the efficiency and conformity of military life…

“This is why Obama’s administration believes a crisis is a terrible thing to waste. This is why Obama has been prattling about ‘Sputnik moments’ and sighing over his envy of China and its rulers. This is why his spinners endeavored to translate the death of bin Laden as some sort of vindication of his domestic agenda: because he cannot lead a free people where he thinks they should go.”

***

“Well, let’s think about an America that looked more like the military. That America would have a culture that’s at times tough and even harsh. It would have a mode of organization that’s strictly hierarchical and at times unforgiving. It would feature a regimen that weeds out those not up to the task and subordinate individual comfort to the achievement of a difficult mission. But that isn’t the America Obama wants to bring within reach. That isn’t the kind of America Obama’s policies seek to produce. Obama’s America is soft, understanding, forgiving, and entitled. But that America doesn’t work so well, or sell so well, anymore. So now Obama pretends his America is the troops’ America.

“Near the end of his speech, the president claimed that ‘Those of us who’ve been sent here to serve can learn from the service of our troops.’ What can we learn? That ”when you put on that uniform, it doesn’t matter if you’re black or white; Asian or Latino; conservative or liberal; rich or poor; gay or straight. When you’re marching into battle, you look out for the person next to you, or the mission fails.” What Obama doesn’t say is this: It’s not just that you look out for the person next to you, or the mission fails. It’s also that you endure tough and demanding training, or the mission fails. You subordinate your own wishes, or the mission fails. You wash out many of those who wish to serve, or the mission fails. You insist on fitness and discipline and good character, or the mission fails. You do away with any sense of entitlement, or the mission fails. But Obama isn’t interested in the truth about why a mission succeeds or fails. He’s interested in using the prestige of the military to justify the nanny state.”

***

“The military works as well as it does because it’s made up of volunteers who have sacrificed a great deal of their liberty. America works as well as it does because it’s made of citizens who jealously guard their liberty.

“A Navy SEAL team is highly trained to apply controlled violence to further our national security interests as determined by our political leaders, who in turn answer to their constituents. To envision a society that runs like a SEAL team, simply working together, eschewing politics, serving the goals prescribed from the Commander-in-Chief, is to envision a society where the constituents have been taken out of the equation — an undemocratic society that would be unworthy of the SEALs’ protection.

“Obama’s rhetoric is all cant, of course; he doesn’t really believe that Congress is going to simply follow his orders. Taken seriously, though, it’s rather chilling.”

***

“You know what Navy SEAL teams don’t have? Unions! Specifically, adversarial Wagner Act unions. The whole point of Wagner Act unionism is to formalize a distinction between ‘management’ and ‘labor’ and set them to work obsessing over their differences.

“Or did I miss the part where the pilots who landed the helicopters on the Bin Laden mission had staged a pre-raid job action because they were expected to inspect their choppers afterwards, violating a work rule they’d negotiated 15 years earlier?”

Here’s what Malcolm X intended to bring about, by any means necessary:

You will never get real freedom and recognition between black and white people in this country without destroying the country, without destroying the present political system, without destroying the present economic system, without rewriting the entire constitution. It will be a complete destruction of everything that America supposedly stands for.

Malcolm X

And here’s a quote from the current resident of the White House, who found what he was looking for “only” in Malcolm X…

Only Malcolm X’s autobiography seemed to offer something different. His repeated acts of self-creation spoke to me. The blunt poetry of his words. His unadorned insistence on respect. He promised a new and uncompromising order, martial in its discipline.

Barack Hussein Obama

… and who shares his journey with Malcolm X:

But my journey is part of a larger journey – one shared by all who’ve ever sought to apply the values of their faith to our society. It’s a journey that takes us back to our nation’s founding, when none other than a UCC church inspired the Boston Tea Party and helped bring an Empire to its knees.

Funny, most people thought his speech employed the military as a metaphor for cooperation and working together as a team in contrast to Washington’s political failure to reach consensus on any issue of real importance.

You mean he literally wants to militarize the country? Do we get marital law, rations, war bonds, and free sidearms training for all persons fit to fight? Awesome…

Liberals. They never seem to grasp the concept of a military — the obligations, the travails, the sweat, the tedium, the apathy, the pure fear at times, the sense of personal and group accomplishment, the idea of defeating a foe so that foe is no longer a threat, of having to sublimate personal “feelings” and actually engage in the killing of those who would kill us, all of us, in a heartbeat if they had the chance for our merely being American. They see Jack Bauer a real person…not the made-for-TV character portrayed on “24.”

If Obama demonstrated one iota of understanding of what “being military” is really about perhaps he’d have chosen a totally different career path…and kept his hands off our best, our finest.

To Obama and his minions, the military is merely one of those trappings of political power, free air travel, and nice top-class meals at 35,000 feet, cool looking guys in berets and snappy uniforms at their beck and call…nothing more.

Obama actually believes “he” is responsible for the killing of Osama?

That particular operation started long before Obama entered the White House. He merely gave the go ahead after Leon Panetta finally convinced everyone else in the situation room that it was time, and the opportunity would not present itself again, and the SEAL’s could do it. Most of the group, save Panetta, in the manner of Jimmy Carter and the Desert One fiasco, agonized all the way through that little exercise….and a bit of micromanagement as the helos entered Abbotabad could have killed a lot of our best in mere moments.

Obama?

A putz.

O’s plan is to defund the military and put 10′s of thousands of soldiers out of work.

Then comes the chaos and his call for a civilian force to carry the load of an overburdened police force.

The unemployed soldiers will be the perfect target for mass hiring as they are already trained…

Hence you have the civilian national security force, just as powerful, just as well funded and it will all seen so sensible as the economy collapses and people see a need for order.

It’s really insidious how O and the progressives have planned this out. Who would have guessed exactly “how” he was planning on doing this….?

Having China as our banker isn’t good for our economy, it isn’t good for our global leadership, and it isn’t good for our national security. History teaches us that for a nation to remain a preeminent military power, it must remain a preeminent economic power.

there has never been a country in the world who saw it’s economy decline and was able to maintain it’s preeminence militarily

Those are both quotes from 2008 Candidate Obama.

He knows that the best way to undermine our military is to bankrupt our country.

I feel like Obama’s entire thought process is:

“What would Putin do?”

I would like to have seen some junior officer or corporal tell Ike or Patton that “we’re all on the same team and have to cooperate.”

Would have been Hillary to pay for that crack. In the military, or at least the one I was in, you don’t “cooperate,” you obey and follow orders.

Obama has as much understanding of the military and leadership and ranks as I do of Babylonian horticulture in July of the year 1200 BC.

And that ain’t much.

I sure hope this is true. Once a month, my daughter’s Girl Scout troop goes to our local VA Hospital. They play bingo and do crafts with the men (and women) who will never leave that hospital again. Mostly WWII vets, but some are younger. They can’t communicate very well and they aren’t very mobile. My daughter said she didn’t want to go anymore because it makes her sad. I was told by one of the nurses that during the summer when the girls don’t come, they are really missed, so I told my daughter that this wasn’t about her, and that as long as they are happy to see us, we are going to go. It makes me sad too but I don’t tell her that. It also makes me sad is to think that everything they did was for nothing. I hope that there are still people in this country who will stand up and stop what is happening. It’s just me and my daughter and I admit I am afraid for us, mostly for her.

I looked at the Palin thread and I don’t see much hope.

This is why his spinners endeavored to translate the death of bin Laden as some sort of vindication of his domestic agenda: because he cannot lead a free people where he thinks they should go.”

Obama bashes congressional obstruction in weekly address

(CNN) – In his weekly address Saturday, President Barack Obama took aim at Congressional Republicans blocking White House nominations and pieces of legislation for what he said were political ends.

“Just two days ago, a senator from Utah promised to obstruct every single American I appoint to a judgeship or public service position – unless I fire the consumer watchdog I put in place to protect the American people from financial schemes or malpractice,” Obama said.

“You subordinate your own wishes, or the mission fails. You wash out many of those who wish to serve, or the mission fails. You insist on fitness and discipline and good character, or the mission fails. You do away with any sense of entitlement, or the mission fails. But Obama isn’t interested in the truth about why a mission succeeds or fails. He’s interested in using the prestige of the military to justify the nanny state.” – B. Hussein Obama

That’s right … Let’s open up the back door and sneak in.
These Marxist talking points used in conjunction with military service and special ops makes me ill on a number of levels.
The military is what it is because good men volunteer!
And then there’s discipline, something Barry knows absolutely nothing about. It’s not meant for society in general. Those of us who endured have been able to translate that discipline into our subsequent civilian lives.

I’m glad you said that. Someone up above said it was better in WWII because a higher percentage were drafted, and that seemed wrong to me, not being involved with the military in any way. He thinks that’s why the war was won in such a short time. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say it was because there weren’t a bunch of PC pansies like there is today. Am I right?

“The president began with a moving tribute to the armed forces and their accomplishments. But as he has done many times now, he celebrated martial virtues not to rally support for the military, but to cover himself in glory — he killed Osama bin Laden! — and to convince the American people that they should fall in line and march in lockstep

That’s an excellent article written by Jonah Goldberg. I read it yesterday and thought, my only complaint was, he should have carried on a bit longer than he did, I enjoyed reading it just that much.

Obama campaign tries to win military voters from Republicans

…By highlighting the president’s foreign policy victories front and center, the Obama campaign is making no secret that it sees a possibility to win over military voters—long thought to be a GOP stronghold—an important constituency in key battleground states such as Florida, Virginia, and North Carolina.

Obama’s wins — from the bin Laden killing to this week’s news that U.S. special forces freed an American hostage from Somali pirates — will only help the president with the military community and beyond, former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell told Democrats at their annual issues conference on Thursday.

“He’s taken the security issue totally away from the Republicans,” Rendell said…

Flora Duh on January 28, 2012 at 7:53 AM

“You know what Navy SEAL teams don’t have? Unions! Specifically, adversarial Wagner Act unions. The whole point of Wagner Act unionism is to formalize a distinction between ‘management’ and ‘labor’ and set them to work obsessing over their differences.

“Or did I miss the part where the pilots who landed the helicopters on the Bin Laden mission had staged a pre-raid job action because they were expected to inspect their choppers afterwards, violating a work rule they’d negotiated 15 years earlier?”

Obama’s plans, so it appears to the observant, is to merge “military” with his “social justice ‘percentagers’” (which means, the unions, union model, militant ‘social’ movement). It’s also what most of Harvard seems to be about and has been as woven into the DNC and our nation’s public educational system (among other systems, but particularly the areas of sociology, psychology and education) for the past forty years or more.

Obama’s pursuing a state-owned, operated, dictator commanded top-down control method that dispenses necessary survival goods by averages and prescribed needs, made possible upon a people by way of a forceful group of operatives (what we today would call “military” would be eventually Obama’s idea of his “army”).

Hugo Chavez and Castro have been engaged in this very same process for a while now. Chavez and Castro have organized an army of weaponized people in service to their state who also hand out aspirins, bandage wounds and call themselves “health care workers” as they deign to visit other nations and “help” other people. It’s an insidious method of conquering needy people.

Seems to be what Obama is going about organizing, too.

Does that mean the military votes will actually get counted this time? And I would think the military are the last ones that would be stupid enough to give Obama credit for any of the stuff Ed Rendell thinks will take the security issue off the table. I’m sure Obama gave the direct order to rescue those people. Ha

Most of the photos I’ve seen that Obama has taken of himself ‘with the military’ show him before a group of eager military personnel who are also mostly all Black. Which is an obvious message of a racist nature by Obama…

Noting that Blacks represent something like (I’m estimating here, correct me with specific numbers if anyone feels it’s necessary) twelve to fifteen percent of our population, and are enlisted in our military in also similar numbers (percentages lower than the larger population who isn’t Black, in ohter words), yet Obama depicts our military as predominantly if not expressly Black in his “official photos with the military”.

This isn’t an accidental statement by Obama, either.

They’re grasping for every voting block they can. He may be able to get the younger recruits, since most of them are fresh out of high school and have received their liberal indoctrination for the past 4 yrs. Although I do have a nephew who is currently serving in Afghanistan who tells me that he and his buddies can’t stand Obama because they can see how he’s using the military to score political points.

Who knows. It just galls me to no end to see these Democrats, who have done nothing but deride out military for the past 10 years, to suddenly become cheerleaders for them.

My husband who is a Vietnam Vet, and 2 of my nephews who are Desert Storm Vets, see right through them.
