Rep. Mike Pompeo: SOTU speech “stunningly cynical”

posted at 12:10 pm on January 25, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Earlier today, I participated in the virtual Blogger Row for House Republicans for reaction to President Obama’s State of the Union speech, and spoke with Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS). Rep. Pompeo sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which led to an interesting discussion of the obstacles being tossed in front of natural-gas production in the US by the Obama administration. Rep. Pompeo noted that Obama talked a little about natural gas but also added that he wants the EPA to have jurisdiction over its production, a function that has been until now left to the states to handle.  We discussed how Obama tried to push his green-tech stimulus plans again without ever mentioning the bath taxpayers took on Solyndra or the $6.5 billion at high risk from the 2009 stimulus plan passed by Democrats as well:

Pompeo told me that Kansas has just discovered a new gas field this week, and that it’s “ridiculous” that Obama talks about natural gas while trying to block its production through fracking regulation that essentially blocks the practice.  We also talked about Dennis Kucinich’s proposal for a “Reasonable Profits Board,” which Pompeo mercilessly skewers.  Be sure to watch it all, and my apologies in advance for the camera issue on my end.  It only lasts for the first minute or so.

I’m shocked! SHOCKED I tell you!

In the larger sense, perhaps this is what is wrong with our government. There’s always this outgushing of adoration and moist panties over the fact that so-and-so made a great speech or what’s-his-whosie delivered roaringly eloquent oratory.

Perhaps if these people got off their pimple-covered buttocks and actually did something, we’d be far better off. (Then again, perhaps not.)

For me, I am terminally sick of this Pantload POTUS endlessly flapping his lips and causing folks like Piglosi and the other libs to orgasm in their jeans.

As I asked last night on the SOTU thread, DO YOU REALLY WANT TO SIT THROUGH THREE/FOUR MORE OF THESE?

“This is a president whose words say one thing, but his policies result in just the opposite.”

It had been working for teh WON ever since his community organize days, ain’t it?

Why change now?

How can anyone be stunned at the cynicism of the regime?

Seriously?

CorporatePiggy on January 25, 2012 at 12:20 PM

Well good luck trying to paint the optimism and determination on display last night as cynicism.

Reagan had morning in America

This crop of losers thinks fear and loathing are going to win the day.

I’m cynical too….about 2012!!

“This is a president whose words say one thing, but his policies result in just the opposite.”

Didn’t you hear? This is the “Opposite Administration”.

It was a tough decision, with the other front-runner being the “Pirate Administration”

Arrrrh! There be dragons here!

I watched most of the SOTU last night and was noticing that when Oblamer was into some of his lies, even the democrats looked a little incredulous while trying hard not to. During a lot of the lies there also was no applause when there should have been. Can’t believe that anyone who watched this farce doesn’t believe the man is a pathological liar and really, quite insane.

At least Joe liked it, either that or his latest Botox treatment has resulted in a perma-grin.

I have a couple of adjectives besides “cynical”.

Nightmarish. Orwellian.

The parallels between Obama’s messaging and the propaganda techniques described in “1984” are frightening.

Obstructing energy production = encouraging energy production.

Raising taxes = lowering taxes.

Discouraging business investment = helping the economy.

Weakening national security = advancing American interests.

and on and on and on…

W Texas and SE New Mexico are sitting back waiting on the decision from the US Fish & Wildlife regarding some sand lizard. Not much growth in oil and gas development out there until we know. They have delayed their decision a couple of times and we are told its going to be in April 2012 now.

He really thinks folks don’t know these things?

DanMan on January 25, 2012 at 12:41 PM

Comon…seriously…did anyone really think it was going to go any differently? Obviously hes going to lie his azz off, obviously hes not going to touch on his astronomically abysmal failures, obviously hes not going to give anyone any recognition whatsoever besides himself, and obviously he will fabricate stories/numbers/statistics/quotes/supporters to make himself look better. Anyone in the GOP feild is better than this traitor.

Except for a few women in the crowd, Valerie Jarrett types, I thought everyone had a curious mixture of boredom and amusement on their faces. That’s fine for the preliminary rounds of “American Idol”. Not for the SOTU.

Ed, thanks for posting your interview with the Rep. What I got out of it is Obama’s working hard to protect us, and also wants to give us free money, and you and the Rep. are against that. Do you just hate everyone and everything? /

You mean Obama is [GASP!!!!] lying?!?!?!?

What needs to happen in our country is an OVERALL cleansing and turn EDUCATION back to the States…so we can teach our kids that MOST rights are supposed to be States Rights and the Federal Gov’t has now usurped that power. Madison, Jefferson, Adams, et al ARE rolling in their graves seeing what has happened over the last century!

Power needs to return back to the States or nothing will ever change.

He lies, that is nothing new. It’s sad that only on patriotic blogs like Hot Air are these lies noted.

More of the same ole same ole, but lots of people didn’t catch on yet.
