To know what the president plans to say tonight, take a look at the guest list
posted at 4:15 pm on January 24, 2012 by Tina Korbe
All we need to know to know that tax reform will be a prominent part of the president’s speech tonight is that Warren Buffett’s secretary, Debbie Bosanek, will be in a box with the First Lady. Bosanek says she couldn’t sleep last night because she’s so excited — even though she knows she’ll have to wake up in time for a dawn flight tomorrow morning to be sure to report to work on time.
Bosanek isn’t the only interesting guest on the list, though. The First Lady has also extended invitations to: Steve Jobs’ widow, Laurene Powell Jobs; outgoing Rep. Gabby Giffords’ husband, Mark Kelly; and Adam Rapp, a cancer survivor that the Obama administration says was helped by Obamacare.
Obama will likely touch on something relevant to each of these guests: about efforts to stimulate technological innovation, for example; about what we learned from the Tucson shooting and the incredible story of Giffords’ recovery, perhaps; about the effectiveness of Obamacare, assuredly.
That’s not unusual; every president since Reagan has used guests to illustrate important points in his addresses. Personal anecdotes are always an effective way of touting a particular stance on an issue. Plus, they serve as an important reminder that policy matters because persons matter. Mentions of these guests — even if they’re misleading about the overall effects of Obama’s policies — will at least enliven a speech that otherwise promises to be dully divisive.

If you’re going to watch tonight’s Siphon & Obstruct Teamwork & Unity Obama lovefest campaign speech, you’re gonna need the jumbo bottle of A1, Tabasco or your favorite sauce plus lots of salt ‘n’ pepper, herbs and spices to get any flavor or cover the bland from this rehash of last year’s rehash of the previous year’s rehash.
Have plenty of gruel on the warmer to get you through the class warfare portion. Keep some mustard and relish handy for the hot dogging, some tartar sauce for when things get too fishy and a fancy French Béarnaise for when the “rich” component comes up and I think that part might require some extra sauce.
I’d also recommend some harissa to accompany the lies and exaggerations that make you do a slow burn, then break out the full-cream ice cream to cool down with and defy the First Foodie.
And please resist (we much) the urge to toss empty beer bottles or other destructive projectiles at the TV.

No. I consider myself more of a blue dog democrat, a moderate, if you will. Nancy Pelosi and Obama are a little far left even for me, but you leave with the one that brought you. I figure if you guys can support Bush Jr. who never saw a spending bill he didn’t want to sign, dragged us into two fiscally unsustainable wars, supported amnesty and global warming against his own party, and can now support a man that teamed up with Nancy Pelosi, I can stand with Obama.

A cancer survivor to show how good Obamacare works? Barf
I’d like to be invited to share my Obamacare story. At the first of the year my company’s health care plan changed. Premiums on the previous BC/BS plan went through the roof. So I went to pick up my first insulin prescription of the year yesterday. Novolog was $237.78 (negotiated down from retail $240.71). Lantus was $119.47 (negotiated down from retail $121.04). My copay was 100% because prescription coverage is included in the deductible of $2000. I should be happy because my premiums were reduced by $31/month. So, it cost me $361.75 for what I got a month ago for $60.
Obamacare has directly caused insurance premiums to go up so dramatically that it is going to cost me, at minimum, an additional $1700 per year to stay alive.
My SOTU address invitation must have been lost in the mail.

I believe everyone should have a fair chance at success. I wish someone would have taken the gun from that ‘law abiding’ nut that shot Gabby Giffords, and I believe that there will be a turnaround, despite the stalling by the house republicans, that will continue economic growth. The jobless rate is lower, that is a start.

And, you are parsing words, pal.
BedBug on January 24, 2012 at 6:09 PM
This is sloppy thinking imo.
You’re stating, through implication, that everybody doesn’t have
a fair chance”.
What are you basing that claim on, and what is your definition of “fair chance”?
As far as the nut who shot Gabby Giffords, it liberal policies and cry of “discrimination” that allowed and continues to allow people with psychotic mental problem to be removed from society for treatment. Guns have nothing to do with it.
Mimzey on January 24, 2012 at 6:10 PM
Yes, because anyone that challenges your group think make many here very uncomfortable. At least a few of you are smart enough to have a discussion.
BedBug on January 24, 2012 at 6:10 PM
And Barry was a coke head and liked his reefer. So what’s your point again?
chewmeister on January 24, 2012 at 6:12 PM
What exactly does that mean? You think the “state” can legislate your life into “fairness”. You get what you earn in this life, not what’s given to you.
So I guess because some nut got a gun and tried to kill someone, all of my firearms should be taken away, even though the law of the land states that you cannot. You assume that gun owners think that those with mental health issues should be able to purchase guns, you are simply.. wrong. But its fairly easy to see that you live in your own little echo chamber.
What turnaround? There has been no turnaround. The job numbers are smoke and mirrors and you know it. Not mentioning the holiday and temporary jobs that inflated the last jobs numbers, you can’t just remove people that have given up looking for a job from the numbers and expect anyone with a brain to take that number seriously. The fact that you cite those numbers as something to be proud of further illustrates how low you will sink. Let’s not even get into the deficit.. of course you know you can’t defend that…
The Democrats had FULL control of every branch of the government and this country descended further into absolute decline. You are being willfully deceptive by pretending our current state of decline is somehow the fault of congress, when the Democrats still control the Senate. Look at this from another way and ask yourself, if the Republicans had controlled all branches of the executive and didn’t produce and actual budget, would you be using it as a tool to attack them? Of course you would.
You can whine about inheriting this economy from Bush all you want to, but these issues are all easily traceable to Democrat interference with the housing markets. Republicans are not blameless and should have fought harder to head off these issues, but you parade your little attacks around like the Dems have nothing to answer for.
The picture I get when I see your posts is that of a belligerent child hammering at the keyboard, pounding out talking points that have no depth.

I’m basing it on socio-economic inequality, due to bad schools, little opportunity in our inner cities, but why worry about that when you are safe and sound in the suburbs with your extra curricular activities and safe neighborhoods. Some kids need a hand up because of years with their parent getting a hand out.
These kids deserve not to be forgotten.
And, Gabby Giffords, yes, she could have been stabbed, but a gun made it easier for the nut to kill faster, with all this bullets in that magazine. Who needs that many bullets, anyway? Democrats are for medical coverage so that people like this shooter could get help. It’s called the affordable care act. And, the republicans? Just deal with it. And, get a janitor job or seomething.

1. Obama will firmly establish the Democrats as “The Party of Sloth and Envy” tonight.
2. Obama will also try to claim that the best way to attain “Energy Independence” is to wipe out all energy use. If this is not done, it’s YOUR FAULT…not Obama’s.
3. The second best way to attain “Energy Independence” is to shut down all domestic energy sources, such as coal, oil, hydroelectric, nuclear, and gas. Each Household may use a crew of hamsters to power one connection to the Internet: anything beyond that is evil and will be punished.
4. …and of course you are evil and greedy if you want to keep your own money. This is somehow true because Warren Buffet won’t pay his secretary more money, and because you won’t let Obama raise your taxes.
