To know what the president plans to say tonight, take a look at the guest list
posted at 4:15 pm on January 24, 2012 by Tina Korbe
All we need to know to know that tax reform will be a prominent part of the president’s speech tonight is that Warren Buffett’s secretary, Debbie Bosanek, will be in a box with the First Lady. Bosanek says she couldn’t sleep last night because she’s so excited — even though she knows she’ll have to wake up in time for a dawn flight tomorrow morning to be sure to report to work on time.
Bosanek isn’t the only interesting guest on the list, though. The First Lady has also extended invitations to: Steve Jobs’ widow, Laurene Powell Jobs; outgoing Rep. Gabby Giffords’ husband, Mark Kelly; and Adam Rapp, a cancer survivor that the Obama administration says was helped by Obamacare.
Obama will likely touch on something relevant to each of these guests: about efforts to stimulate technological innovation, for example; about what we learned from the Tucson shooting and the incredible story of Giffords’ recovery, perhaps; about the effectiveness of Obamacare, assuredly.
That’s not unusual; every president since Reagan has used guests to illustrate important points in his addresses. Personal anecdotes are always an effective way of touting a particular stance on an issue. Plus, they serve as an important reminder that policy matters because persons matter. Mentions of these guests — even if they’re misleading about the overall effects of Obama’s policies — will at least enliven a speech that otherwise promises to be dully divisive.

P predict that Barky will tell lots of bald-faced lies tonight, sprinkled with historical ignorance. His usual performance.
If we’re lucky, he’ll throw in “profit and earnings ratios” and finally explain what they are and since when it was considered anything less than retarded to translate division or a ratio to “and” in English.

D-fusit on January 24, 2012 at 4:43 PM
Fat chance of that. Last year, Barry was telling us all that he was going to “invest” our money in green energy companies which would provide us with energy security and create thousands of new jobs. He pointed to Solyndra as a prime example of how green energy investments pay off, and said it was the business model for America’s future.
Think anybody in the MSM is going to be pointing out tomorrow that Solyndra has gone bankrupt (at a cost to taxpayers of hundreds of millions of dollars), that the Obama administration has pi$$ed away billions more tax dollar “investments” in similar failed green business ventures, and that the promised new “green” jobs and energy security never materialized? We already know the answer: Obama is never held accountable for anything he says or does, no matter how devastating the consequences to the country.

Let’s have a SOTU drinking game, but you had better have a designated driver.
Only one rule: One shot for every time you here any of the phrases mentioned below.
“Let me be perfectly clear”
“we’ve got more work to do”
“previous administration”
“American values”
“my Republican friends”
“end to hostilities”
“energy policy”
“House and Senate Republicans”
“failed policies of the past”
“America’s working families”
“the right thing”
“pay their fair share”
“do nothing congress”
“millionaires and billionaires”
If you make it 20 minutes into the speech and can still walk, your liver is probably mush by now. Good luck and keep a bag handy.

He is going to tell us how much he is planning on giving each of us out of his stash. He will then go on to say that he can’t give us that now, even though he was going to. And this will be because of Republican fat cats like his opponents in the coming elections who are refusing to pay their fair share and skimping on their taxes.
If it weren’t for people like Warren Buffet’s secretary paying in more taxes than all those Repblican vulture capitalists, he wouldn’t even have the money to pay for his teleprompter’s electricity or give healthcare to this one person that Obamacare could afford to help this year.
If it weren’t for people like his opponents in this election and a do nothing congress who refuse to even submit a budget, we could have all had the really great swag that he was planning for us.
But now, you won’t get ANYTHING. And it is all your own fault because Obama and his policies are awesome but you let congress get in his way.
So vote wisely America. Don’t get stiffed again next year.
Lily on January 24, 2012 at 4:56 PM
When one thinks about it, the resemblence to the rise and fall of ancient Rome is quite striking. When Rome was at it’s most corrupt, it built the Coliseum, and fed ‘red meat’ to the masses to keep them entertained while the government officials stuffed themselves with riches. They played to the lowest common denominator of the Roman mob, and then Nero fiddled while Rome burned.
Our current politicians play to our heartstrings, feed our basest human emotions, while they fatten themselves at the public trough. And we seem to eat it up, just like the Roman mob ate up the gladitorial combats.
Those who do not understand history are doomed to repeat it.

The White House are such hypocrites. Steve Jobs hadn’t taken a salary in years. Most of his and his wife’s money was taxed at 15%.

For all the talk about Buffet’s poor secretary, I have yet to see anyone question why she is so poor. Many of the secretaries at MocroSoft, Netscape, and many other corporations (especially computer/software types) became millionaires off the stock options they were given. How bad of a boss is Buffet that she is apprently NOT rich after 20 years working for the richest man in the world? Or is she actually rich with stock options and nobody is willing to call them on it?

Buffet’s always liked posturing, subtly. Read any interview with ‘the world’s best investor in the history of humanity’. His people feed lines into the narrative like, ‘lives in the same modest home in Omaha he bought 40 years ago’, ‘eschews the limelight’, ‘holds conservative values’, etc. etc.
I prefer filthy rich Americans on the Larry Ellison line. He’s worth far more than Jobs was, has planes, houses, and boats, coming out of his rear end and eschews this deeply dishonest BS class warfare schtick.
