Quotes of the day

“But until Brian Williams called ‘time,’ it was Mr. Gingrich that seemed knocked back on his heels by the relentless assault from Mr. Romney…

“Today, the mild-mannered Mr. Romney is gone.

“‘You can call it whatever you like. I call it influence peddling,’ Mr. Romney said, looking straight at his chief rival. ‘It is not right. You have a conflict.’

“He continued to criticize Mr. Gingrich: ‘You spent 15 years in Washington, on K street. This is a real problem.’”

Good Morning, KingsJester!

I just read your blog. You have an interesting perspective on it!

JonBGood on January 24, 2012 at 7:07 AM

Some people seem quite obsessed with csdeven. Her name pops up often, even in her absence. It’s not hard to see why. Csdeven is clearly more intelligent, witty and humorous than all of you put together. Just stating the obvious here. She bests you all at every turn, and it seems to drive many of you crazy.

bluegill on January 24, 2012 at 4:00 AM

I’m not sure which is more frightening- the possibility that csdeven is insecure enough to have created bluegill as a very unconvincing sock-puppet, or the prospect that a real human being could actually write something so sycophantic.

RINO in Name Only on January 24, 2012 at 7:08 AM

Not to be rude but doctors are often far too quick to pull the plug. More than one patient has revived when they pulled the plug. Terri was starved to death to me that is homicide (the willing taking of a human life). If I starved one of my children to death it would be murder. I personally see no difference. In fact millions of Americans are routinely starved to death in Nursing Homes around the country while given morphine to keep them from saying “I’m hungry”.

Steveangell on January 24, 2012 at 12:37 AM

Knowing a lot about Terri, personally, she was very anorexic. She actually starved herself into her condition. That’s a fact. How ironic that she was starved to death in the untimate end.

Unfortunately, the law was in her husband’s favor, there was nothing anyone could do.

Be careful whom you marry. Make a plan for yourself, in case you become vegetative. Lessons learned from this case.

stenwin77 on January 24, 2012 at 7:08 AM

I don’t think Palin wanted to run the gauntlet again. They basically crucified her the first time around as the VP nominee.

She would have had to fight the media, Democrats, the Republican Establishment and Republican Moderates all at the same time, all the way through the General Election.

I get the impression that the Republican Establishment would rather lose the election that let Sarah Palin win.

State Of The Union To Focus On Economy
President Expected To Lay Out Series Of Proposals

POSTED: 2:58 am CST January 24, 2012
UPDATED: 5:32 am CST January 24, 2012
*************************************

WASHINGTON (CNN) — In his last State of the Union speech before the 2012 election, President Barack Obama will pitch a series of proposals and will address the topics of economic inequality and a government that should ensure “a fair shake for all.”

A Democratic source briefed on the latest draft of the speech said Obama’s proposals will include:

– Tax reform so that wealthy Americans pay more and the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 expire

– More refinancing for homeowners in trouble

– Additional tax breaks for companies that bring back jobs to the United States

– More clean energy incentives

– Enhanced education and job-training initiatives, especially for high school graduates seeking technical degrees

– Establishment of the so-called “Buffett Rule” that would set a minimum tax rate for people earning more than $1 million.

The president has proposed such steps previously as part of his administration’s efforts to spur the nation’s still sluggish recovery from the recession.

Democratic sources briefed on the draft speech say it will describe a “blueprint for an economy that’s built to last.”

That blueprint will focus on manufacturing, energy, education and middle-class values, according to a video released on the Obama’s campaign website and Democratic sources who have been briefed on the address.

Democratic sources told CNN that the bullet points of Obama’s blueprint will focus on American manufacturing, including “insourcing” — or bringing back jobs from overseas.

FBI Arrests CT Police Officers Accused of Racial Profiling

The East Haven Police Department has been under scrutiny for months amid allegations some officers mistreat people of color.

*********************************************

The FBI arrested three police officers and one sergeant in Connecticut for allegedly mistreating Hispanic suspects and residents while on patrol, law-enforcement officials say.

Three East Haven police officers and the sergeant were taken into custody early Tuesday and are expected to be arraigned in federal court in Bridgeport later on the civil rights-related charges, law enforcement officials said.

Connecticut U.S. Attorney spokesman Tom Carson confirmed the arrests and said the charges would be outlined at a news conference later this morning.

The East Haven Police Department has been under scrutiny for months amid allegations some officers mistreat people of color. Allegations of false arrests and bogus traffic stops are widespread.

advertisement The arrests of the law-enforcement officials come weeks after the Justice Department issued a report saying some members of the department intentionally targeted Latinos for enforcement and traffic stops, and that there may have been efforts to cover up the alleged misconduct.(More…)

bluegill on January 24, 2012 at 4:00 AM

I live in their heads 24/7/365. LOL Not a one of them have ever been able to start the attacks on me and come out ahead. These are mostly those who are so emotionally hung up with their preferred candidate that they perceive a criticism of that candidate as a personal attack on them. So they feel justified in leveling a personal attack against those who criticize that candidate.

That is the first stage. The second stage is that once those people start the personal attacks, all bets are off and they get the personal attacks right back in their face. This is when they realize they cannot keep up, are in over their heads, and start getting desperate. They then find each other and decide that ganging up on one person will be successful. When that fails, they throw their hands up and just don’t care if they are making headway with their argument and resort to a mutual masturbation session parroting the exact failed narrative with each other.

And that pattern isn’t just with me. It is to most who don’t kowtow to the awesomely awesome awesomeness of their strength in numbers.

Conversely, those that engage me responsible and in an adult manner always get a respectful reasoned response. There have been occasion when a comment is made that I take as a personal attack, but we always get it straightened out.

Look, this is just a blog. When I walk away from it, I do not take it with me. There are very few people who I remember interacting with. Those are mostly people who offer wise unique ideas and are respectful. The rest all exhibit the same recalcitrant behavior and even if I were disposed to remember who they are, it would be impossible because they all act the same way.

No, there are a few who I remember because of their over the top behavior. Those who start using violent rhetoric. We have seen that the last couple of days with that one loser. But you don’t have to report them to the mods. They cull those types right away for the most part. I expect that astoneli creep to be gone real soon if he keeps up his violent attacks. The other type to watch out for are the stalkers. Don’t EVER get comfortable enough here to give out personal information. EVER.

And you’re absolutely right about that munford chick. Passive/agressive is her schtick. And her fanboyz enable her to continue.

And as far as my gender is concerned. I have purposely kept that vague because I find it hilarious that for some reason it is an issue for those who cannot make rational arguments. Think about it….exactly how far is a person in their head that they actually believe a fellow HA commenter’s gender is an issue ripe for derisive attacks?

At any rate, your comment nails the general environment amongst a very small, yet very vocal, segment of HA. But it will abate quite significantly after the primaries.

csdeven on January 24, 2012 at 8:36 AM

csdeven on January 24, 2012 at 8:36 AM

Didn’t one of them actually go to a base and ask about your son? Talk about taking it way too seriously.

And really, at the end of the day (thanks for the phrase Newt) the number of people commenting at HA is so small that all of us are statistically insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
Even Huffpo with its 5000+ comments per thread doesn’t begin to capture the picture of what the vast majority of voters think.

Valiant on January 24, 2012 at 8:57 AM

Didn’t one of them actually go to a base and ask about your son?

Yep.

Talk about taking it way too seriously.

Certifiable.

Absolutely! And way too many people here, and on the net in general, wont accept that fact.

I am still trying to buy Fred’s red pickup on ebay as a gift for you! ;)

Bradky on January 24, 2012 at 8:42 AM

He gave that to Gingrich last night on Hannity when he endorsed the only politician in the race with a history of corruption, immorality, and very unethical behavior. Can you imagine the narrative?…….

?fred? Thompson, K street lobbyist who lobbied for a Haitian dictator, gives endorsement to a fellow K street lobbyist, Neutron Newt, who peddled influence for Freddie Mac as the housing bubble burst. The endorsement is one that Neutron Newt, even though he has spent his entire life as a Washington insider, is in all actuality, a Washington outsider because he knows how to work as a Washington insider.

WTH?!

Bwahahahaha!!! The soon to be epic failure of the Neutron Newt campaign, continues to feed it’s own destruction with every excuse to try to prevent it’s destruction.

That was my thought as well.

Not to make anything of it, csdeven. Just enjoying the thought experiment.

Fred’s a nice guy, so-so actor and a lousy politician. He must have seen Sarah’s interview before the SC vote and said, ok, Newt’s the one. She stopped playing the political game after supporting McLame’s last re-election, and now feels comfortable telling rising rino stars like Christie to not get their panties in a wad. Gotta love it.

Okay. To explain further on your comment…..

I use the word “gender” for two reasons. First, to tweak (and keep confused) those who, for whatever odd reasons, are preoccupied with my gender. Second, to be more precise for those who are just reading comments.

The word “gender” is a noun. The word “sex” can be used as an idiom, verb, noun, and adjective. An example from my comment above.

“for whatever odd reasons, are preoccupied with my gender.”

“for whatever odd reasons, are preoccupied with my sex.”

For the casual reader who doesn’t have a hard on for csdeven, “gender” is the preferred use in my view. Using the word “sex” just seems crude and out of place in that context.

I hate seeing the candidates go rabid on each other, we get enough of this from the media and you can be sure that Obama’s media minions will have a scorched earth policy. Gingrich did less of the venture capitalism bashing last night and seemed to have better answers to Romney’s attacks. Some of the issues Gingrich has been on the wrong side with have made me nearly apoplectic, such as backing DeeDee over Doug Hoffman and criticizing the Ryan budget plan, however he has more of a record of accomplishing Conservative goals than any of the others. I agree with Fred that he can articulate our goals better, as well.

Obama is so dangerous that I would vote for anyone who gets the nomination, and all of these candidates do have strengths. Hopefully, the ones here saying they won’t vote if A B or C wins the nomination are only spouting Hot Gas.

It’s been clear to me since after Reagan, it doesn’t take much to be POTUS…..or a member of Congress. If we put out a request for resume’s, I think we would get a much better choice of candidates…. both sides. Why can’t these morons tell us how they would run the gummint rather than taking cheap shots at one another….. boring and sickening. These idiots will reelect odumbo in 2012 if they are not careful. Of course, most of us have no faith in the RNC, or the GOP.

Good Morning KingsJester…good comments, and your blog is good too! Love being a noob here…so much to learn, such wisdom from Flora Duh, ALT and others…

I didn’t watch the debate last night, and it looks like I didn’t miss much. I am ready to get back to solutions regarding the economy, national security and healthcare. Of course, Romney never wants to talk solutions because he doesn’t have any. You are going to need more than information your staff googles to beat Obama. Newt Gingrich’s facts come from being there.
