Quotes of the day

posted at 10:51 pm on January 18, 2012 by Allahpundit

“For months, Mr. Gingrich has made racial resentment an integral part of his platform as a conservative challenger to Mitt Romney. He has traversed the country calling President Obama “the greatest food-stamp president in American history” and presenting African-Americans with the great revelation that they should prefer paychecks to federal handouts. When he was called on it at the debate by Juan Williams of Fox News, he took the measure of the crowd and doubled down…

“In South Carolina, where a Confederate flag still waves on the front lawn of the State Capitol largely because of the efforts of the state Republican Party, it remains good primary politics to stir up racial animosity and then link it to President Obama. Mr. Gingrich, Mr. Santorum and the crowd that cheered them are following in a long and tawdry tradition, singling out a minority group for lectures while refusing to support policies that help all Americans.”

***

“In the memo, Mr. Gingrich urges Governor Reagan’s campaign to reconsider its decision not to speak to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Convention.

“‘This is a great opportunity to prove that a conservative Republican can speak to the hearts and pocketbooks of Black Americans,’ Gingrich urged in the memo…

“Mr. Gingrich’s 1980 plea that the Reagan campaign should reach out to the NAACP and make inroads with black voters was just the first of many he has made to GOP candidates over many years.

“As ABC News has reported, in his book Real Change, Mr. Gingrich criticized President George W. Bush’s ‘failure to address the NAACP,’ which according to Gingrich, sent a ‘clear signal to the African American community that Republicans did not see them as worthy of engagement in dialogue.’”

***

“Romney and his fellow Republicans are making a case (at least relative to President Obama) for economic freedom and against the expansion of government. To be sure, one may prefer Obama’s policies on reasoned grounds that have nothing to do with race. It is also true that for most of America’s history, and as recently as the 1960s, blacks were denied the freedoms, economic and otherwise, that whites took for granted.

“But no Republican running for president is proposing a return to Jim Crow or a repeal of civil rights laws. Siegel’s implicit notion that only whites are capable of benefiting from economic freedom under a regime of legal equality amounts to an insidious theory of racial supremacy.

That is the idea that Newt Gingrich repudiated in answer to Juan Williams’s (not particularly objectionable) question. That is what brought the crowd to their feet.”

***

***

“That use of the name ‘Juan,’ the way he did it. You can’t argue these things. You either see them or you don’t. It’s just the way he did that. I sensed a little applause when he said ‘Let me help you’ when he answered the Juan question. It’s in the eye of the beholder. And, by the way, calling someone a racist is the worst way to get them to stop being racist because everyone gets defensive. … So it’s stupid to say it but, honestly, if you notice it, you sort of ought to blow the whistle. Because there is a dog whistle going on here.”

***

“O’Reilly then turned to another aspect of the exchange: the way Gingrich pronounced ‘Juan.’ ‘Chris Matthews,’ O’Reilly explained, ‘said he way he called you Juan was kind of racist. Did you take it that way?’

“‘Remember, I’m facing Newt, so I heard behind me the moment he went ‘Juan… the minute I heard the hoot and hollering I realized how he played to the audience,’ Williams responded, joking that the audience immediately began to ask “Who is this strange character, ‘Juan‘?” and adding the caveat that the setting is what made it different. He did not say what he thought Gingrich thought of him or what he intended to say about Williams, only that ‘he wanted to stir the audience at that moment.’”

I really enjoyed how the PBS REJECT got his lunch handed to him by Newt. He juanted to paint Newt as a R-A-A-A-C-I-S-T during the debate but instead gave him the win.

While I remain certain that the 0bamabots are pissed at him I hope Juan keeps up the good work.

Looks like everyone was over at that Newt thread. Guess me being from Georgia I know all I want to know about him. It never occurred to me so many folks don’t have that advantage. At any rate I had hung out here as you can tell waiting on my new bud Dire. I heard he might be off swimming or blessing the cup somewhere tonight. Any how Dire I have a tune for you as promised. It was the only one in my repertoire with Juan in it. I had originally picked another but with the QOTD being on the topic it was I thought the other could wait. The audio is quite good considering its live and the age of it. Its not widely released, somewhat rare. Enjoy, see you tomorrow. So with out further adieu. : )

Juan Williams is stuck on stupid. He escaped paying the real price for his ignorant ideology when Murdoch stepped in and gave him a raise for getting fired from NPR. So Juan failed to learn anything from that experience. And as exhibited by his trite quetions in the debate, he’s a racist. Views everything from the self-imposed prism / prison of his skin color. Stupid bastard will probably vote for Obama again.

rayra on January 19, 2012 at 2:36 AM

The lefts top power structure is also comprised of white people who use black people and minorites as a club to mangle and beat conservatives. You see, why would they actually want to work for their money when they can simply steal or blackmail an individual for it through legislation.

Black people only make up 10% of the population here, why don’t they just give up all their money and make all the black people wealthy or comfortable. Al Sharpton and Jesse would be out of a job, formerly rich white liberals could feel good about themselves and we could then crush them in elections because they are all out of cash. I mean if they really meant it, really cared they would give till it hurts, but we all know better, don’t we!

21st Century as race relations are concerned!

However it appears the Liberal Democrat Party are
stuck in the 1920 to 1950 still in race relations!

And however again,Rev.Wright,Al Sharpton,Jesse
Jackson are stuck in the slave days,1700 to 1800′s

Okay, when I think of people on food stamps, I picture poor white folks on food stamps. Really I do. Don’t know why, but that’s the picture that pops into my head.

Newt’s response to Juan at the debate showed he doesn’t see food stamp recipients as being predominantly black, either. Just as raceless human victims of Barack Obama’s policies.

However, when Juan Williams thinks of people on food stamps, he automatically assumes that most of them are black. Now, I have no idea what the racial makeup of food stamp recipients is. How many are white, how many are black, American Indian, Asian, etc. But no matter the numbers, it’s interesting that Juan Williams assumes they are more likely to be black.

Who’s the one thinking negatively about race here?

I’m enough of a geezer to remember when Martin Luther King took his civil rights movement north to Chicago and organized a march through a white section of Chicago.

Terrible memories. Hundreds of white bigots throwing rocks and calling Dr. King a “Juan,” with other shouts of “Go back to Africa, you Juan!” and “Time to start lynching Juans again.”

Just awful. Juan Williams probably has nightmares about those times.

Summers Under Consideration to Lead World Bank When Zoellick’s Term Ends
Jan 19, 2012 12:01 AM ET
************************

President Barack Obama may put his mark on the World Bank by nominating Lawrence Summers, his former National Economic Council director, to lead the bank when Robert Zoellick’s term expires later this year, according to two people familiar with the matter.

While a Summers nomination may draw criticism from some Democrats who disagree with his past stances on deregulating the financial industry, he has support inside the administration from top officials, including Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and current NEC Director Gene Sperling, said one of the people.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is also being considered, along with other candidates, said the other person. Both spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal White House deliberations.

Ziegler is a crackpot for saying that the “conservative” media, esp. Fox News, is on the take, in it just for the money? It’s crazy.

On the other hand, conspiracies are illegal because they really do exist. This one just can’t be real because it’s so big! Yet just about every leading conservative candidate has been brought down in turn by little more than innuendo, smears and outright ridicule. A conspiracy is impossible. And we can’t accept the suggestion of an overarching conspiracy because that would put us in the same ignominious category of Bigfoot believers. Except that one still wonders, for example: How did Jack and Jerry Ryan’s “sealed” divorce records get released. By whom. And, most importantly, why?

And why didn’t this raise a fire storm among the American people, the voters? If a dulled conscience hears a slur long enough, it gradually come to take it as a fact, as a given. Whatever the truth was with Herman Cain, we will never really know, but even Fox commentators allowed the “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” thinking to take root, to grow, and fester.

And the American people are okay with it, yes? And now Romney is the last one standing – because he’s the only one not attacked by the press, including Fox. If the MSM is a pack of Afghan hunting hounds, Fox appears to be the Shi-tzu running after.

It’s as if – and this is very hard to say – Romney was chosen as the GOP’s Big Piñata (or the Republican least offensive to the Left, should he somehow win) from the very beginning. Even advancing the primary dates contributed to a thoughtless primary season.

I’ll say again, at the risk of again appearing a crackpot, I expect Obama to win decisively, and to possibly be reelected in 2016. Yeah, it’s crazy, but he’s already ruling by executive fiat, and no one’s complaining. Once more than 50% of voters are on the dole, the country that we older folks were raised in will no longer exist.

I suppose it doesn’t matter in the long run, but it does seem an awful waste of a good country, and an awful shame.

State-mandated “Sexual Brainwashing” Begins in California Schools
Jan 6 2012
**********

Students in California public schools may not be leading the nation in their knowledge of the “three R’s,” but they are well on their way to being experts in deviant lifestyles. Under a law signed last year by Gov. Jerry Brown (D), all public schools in the state are now required to promote homosexuality, bisexuality, transsexuality, and same-sex “marriage” at every grade level, including kindergarten — and to do so without parental consent or even notification. Romney Parks Millions in Cayman Islands
Jan. 18, 2012
*************

Although it is not apparent on his financial disclosure form, Mitt Romney has millions of dollars of his personal wealth in investment funds set up in the Cayman Islands, a notorious Caribbean tax haven.

A spokesperson for the Romney campaign says Romney follows all tax laws and he would pay the same in taxes regardless of where the funds are based.

As the race for the Republican nomination heats up, Mitt Romney is finding it increasingly difficult to maintain a shroud of secrecy around the details about his vast personal wealth, including, as ABC News has discovered, his investment in funds located offshore and his ability to pay a lower tax rate.

“His personal finances are a poster child of what’s wrong with the American tax system,” said Jack Blum, a Washington lawyer who is an authority on tax enforcement and offshore banking.

JonBGood on January 19, 2012 at 5:46 AM

Of course we can. IF the serfs would get off their butts and get the harvest in on time for a change.

Oh, and don’t forget to bow in the direction of Obama five times a day. Check the government-controlled media to find out which expensive resort he is staying at and face in that direction when bowing.

Now, lift that barge and tote that bale.

(Uh-oh! “Bale” in that song refers to bales of cotton. I’m insulting Juans! I’m a racist! Oh noes! Gotta file another report on me with AttttaaackWaaaatch.)

Look at the response here and other media outlets. Cayman stash story buried under Newt bitter wife story. Oh yeah, Newt is a lock on the women’s vote. What do you think the Gender Gap would be if the gop nominated a paunchy, old, confirmed serial wife cheater?

Put the brainiac paunch against the likeable telegenic black guy and see what happens. 10 point Obama win minimum in the female vote.

Good morning Kingsjester!

The race has already been decided: Obama vs. Romney.

THE LSM will do everything in their power to make it happen. Otherwise, all that oppo on Mitt would go to waste. And, the Obama team would have to devise a new election strategy.

Mitt Romney Management Style

Their new firm reflected some aspects of Romney’s own personality: his mania for detail and for process. He was a cautious executive. “Mitt was always worried that things weren’t going to work out–he never took big risks,” one of his colleagues told me. “Everything was very measurable. I think Mitt had a tremendous amount of insecurity and fear of failure.” Romney never worked from any particular “macro theme,” any philosophy of how the economy was moving.

“I never viewed Mitt as very decisive,” says one of his Bain Capital colleagues. “The idea was that if there’s enough argument around an issue by bright people, ultimately the data will prevail.”

Romney may have been, as another early Bain Capital partner puts it, a “very case-by-case, reactive thinker”

From the Gingrich ex-wife thread:

Fox just announce Santorum won the Iowa caucus by 30 plus votes. If Iowa cannot do a simple count to find the true winner in 2 days or less they should never again be the first in the nation primary or caucus state.Campaigns or made or ended in this state. For weeks now Romney and his supporters have been running around the country talking about how Romney made history by winning both Iowa and New Hampshire.Shame on you Iowa.

Poor Mittens has lost his inevitability mantra. After all, he’s only won one of his own home states, now.

Why is only liberals who can hear the dog whistles supposedly meant for conservatives?

Tuning Spork on January 19, 2012 at 8:36 AM

Is there anyone out there who considers this Williams character a great thinker? His questions are just plain dumb; that is why the audience reacted the way they did.
My guess is that this is what you get with affirmative-action trained journalists. This guy and all people who ask these type of questions are just looking to get somebody to say something that will fuel conversation rather than to be probative in nature.
Fox pay over $1M for this? Sign me up.

Pat Fenis on January 19, 2012 at 8:51 AM

1) Juan Williams was ‘race baiting’, and as Newt suggested, making good primary politics in an attempt to further the perception that Conservatives are racists. Newt suggested that instead of paying 1 Union worker an elaborate salary to be the janitor of a school that same salary could be used to hire 10 stdents to take care of the school. This would help students be invested in the school, in taking care of the school, would give the kids/their families needed income (in some cases), and would empower these kids while teaching them a good work ethic. How can Juan Williams take offense at such an idea and in any way call such a plan ‘racist’?

The Federal Government’s job is to EMPOWER Americans, to help them suceed, to grow, get jobs, and be productive. Unfortunately the Liberal/Progressive(/Socialist) policies and actions of this administration especially is designed to enslave more and more Americans, making them dependent on the Federal Government. That is NOT the Federal Government’s job!

Juan, just like Obama, is good at TALKING about job growth. When Newt actually verbalizes a plan to put 10 people to work rather than 1, that will help empower a new generation of future workers while teaching them a good work ethic, however, suddenly such a plan is ‘racist’?!

I am Sooooo sick of the ‘racist’ BS! Obama himself said when he was elected that would be the end of ‘racism’. HA! Liberals use ‘racism’ as both a sword and shield, to strike out at their opponents and with which to defend any un-sound, unethical, immoral, and/or criminal decision/act. If you oppose the fact, for example, that Obama just killed the pipeline deal that would have created up to 100,000 new jobs at a time when we need them most and would provide oil during a time when our National Security is in jeopardy due to Iran’s threat to close the Strait, it isn’t because it is a criminally inept and highly political decision for his own benefit. No, it is because ‘you’ must OBVIOUSLY be a ‘racist’. WHATEVER!
