Obama’s first campaign ad: The billionaires are coming after me

posted at 9:16 pm on January 18, 2012 by Allahpundit

By “secretive oil billionaires” he means Americans For Prosperity, the Koch brothers outfit that’s running a tough ad about Solyndra against him right now. Once upon a time, they would have been described here as “right-wing special interests.” Obama being Obama, though, the conflict is framed overtly in terms of wealth and the damage its shadowy possessors inflict on the world. What’s next in this crude left-wing class-resentment campaign? Comparing Mitt Romney’s private equity firm to vultures?

Ten and a half months of this, guys. All spring, all summer, well into fall. Every day. There isn’t enough beer in the world to cure the tedium. Even so, I give The One credit for having the sheer stones to run an ad touting his record on energy jobs on the very day he torpedoed the Keystone pipeline. (See the Boehner snippet below for more on that.) I hope he’s saving the big “Mubarak toppled in Egypt!” ad for the day the new Islamist parliament is sworn in too. Exit question: Are those solar panels I see? He’s actually … advertising his administration’s track record on solar-energy ventures?

Update: A reader e-mails to note that the supposedly impressive praise in the ad about O’s ethics record being unprecedented came almost three years ago, just three months into his term.

You know what is great about his Dreams of my Father excerpts? They can be heard in his own voice through the audio version.

McCain started to gain traction on Obama and even lead in the polls before the banking collapse because of that ad which likened him to an superficial celebrities Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Going after the man personally is the best way to discredit him because in order to combat a personal attack you need to be able to personally connect with voters, something Obama struggles at. Reading from teleprompters in front of foam Greek columns is not a personal connection; he doesn’t have that Clinton “I feel your pain” special touch.

So true.

McCain’s desire to be the “Maverick” and “media darling” led to the disastrous mistake of not exposing these ties more.

…McCain also refused to hammer democrats on the fact that he actually pushed legislation that would have directly addressed the Fannie/Freddie sub-prime disaster. He should have been pushing that and waving his actions on this in front of every camera.Win or lose…it probably would have made the public see that both parties failed us on this…not just Republicans.

I see Obama’s marxist and radical ties being taken a lot more seriously by the electorate now that they have seen his disastrous policies in action.

Going to war without Congressional approval….
……….bypassing Congress with entities like the EPA….
……………..signing statements/recess appointments/indefinite detention of Americans….after all the promises in 2008 will have many Americans connecting the dots that they gave him a pass on before.

Really ?

Of course Energy dependence on foreign oil will go down if you are stopping a Canadian oil Pipeline and people don’t have money to buy gasoline.

Was the Solindra bit supposed to be ironic ?

We won. You won’t win.

BedBug on January 18, 2012 at 9:54 PM

Wasn’t that the same thing that all the lefties were saying just before getting stomped in the 2010 elections (losing the house and, if you count state and local elections, getting their tails whipped in the largest electoral rout in the history of the republic).

If you lefties want to do another swan dive into the electoral wood chipper, well, that is your deal.

“The billionaires are coming after me”

Seems appropriate. He goes after them for campaign contributions.

locomotivebreath1901 on January 19, 2012 at 7:41 AM

Just remember the GOP Ruling Class mantra – “Only Romney can defeat Obama” and all will be well.

If he wants to campaign in front of solar panels… hello President Romney.

THIS^

When is a conservative PAC going to run an ad about BHO’s close ties to moneyed fat cat contributors and their direct ties to projects and companies that the administration supports? Don’t we want some of the independent vote?

“The billionaires are coming after me for more $500 million loan guarantees for their failing businesses!” -Obooba.

Akzed on January 19, 2012 at 8:54 AM

Uh, yeah….how much is Obama worth? And the guys is ‘technically a billionarie because / in the way that he uses BILLIONS (er, trillions?) of borrowed dollars (in our name) to dole out to big donors in companies like Solyndra and other ‘Green’ companies, etc. It is all too familiar to Millionaire Newt Gingrich attacking Mitt Romney for being ‘rich’. LOL! Every member of Congress is either a Millionaire or WILL BE by the time they leave office. This loser, like many of them, need to be ejected out of office.

Bedbug couldn’t make more of a fool of himself if he got on here and endorsed Obama’s “transcontinental railroad”….

….sing it bedbug “4 more years of Obama….the chickenhawk,Wall St. bought, leader of the downgrade!!!!!”

Baxter Greene on January 18, 2012 at 11:11 PM

Great posts Baxter. I think you meant Obama’s “intercontinental railroad”, but BHO’s gaffes are so boneheaded it can be hard to remember his malaprop dis-information correctly.

Which is one of the reasons why Mrs. Crazy Legs and I DVR literally everything except football (sometimes even that) and watch it at least 15 minutes behind the live broadcast. Outside of sporting events, I don’t think I’ve actually watched a commercial in about 5 or 6 years.

Speak for yourself.

Netflix + Drama Fever for $20 per month = Tard Free TV. And you can’t put a price on that. :-)

Heh. Great minds and all…and at exactly the same time. :-)

MNHawk on January 19, 2012 at 9:34 AM

He can say whatever he wants because the Dems know that the mainstream media will report what he says as truth, and they are counting on the ignorance of the American people and their useful idiots. All you have to do to figure out what Obama’s campaign will be is to be familiar with the Saul Alinsky and Cloward & Piven strategies.

If the Billionaires cut the puppet strings, Obama collapses into a pile of kindling.

Obama: Money is evil except for when I raise more of it for a campaign than any other candidate in history.

Scrappy on January 19, 2012 at 12:37 PM

No doubt some voters are convinced whenever Obama speaks. If Obama is re-elected, it’s a sad commentary on this country – they will get exactly what they voted for.

As for me I live in the country and I can go to self-sufficient farming.

Do you think they can grow potatoes on 5th Ave. ?
