Video: Carney dodges question about Obama’s college transcript
posted at 6:05 pm on January 17, 2012 by Tina Korbe
Forget birth certificates and tax returns: What really qualifies a person for president is straight As in college. No? Never mind, then. But wait — as long as we’re fixating on documents that, in the end, have no effect whatsoever on job creation or economic growth, why can’t we see Barack Obama’s college transcripts? As it turns out, Jay Carney didn’t say we can’t; he just referred Fox reporter Ed Henry to the Obama campaign. (Incidentally, I love how jaunty Henry is in this video. Why can’t more reporters be like that?)
The question-and-answer between Henry and Carney occurred in the context of a discussion about whether Mitt Romney should or shouldn’t, will or won’t release his tax returns. Carney did make it clear the president and he thinks that’s a “good idea“:
“I think we’ve answered this a bunch. The tradition of releasing income tax records for serious potential nominees, and nominees of the two parties is well established. It’s not a law. But it’s well established. It’s one this President abided by when he was a Senator. It’s one numerous Republicans and Democrats have abided by and we think its a good idea.”
At any rate, Romney clarified this morning that he will release his returns in April — so expect to hear more about this until he does. Just kidding. Let’s hope not.

Romney should make a deal to release his tax returns and grade transcripts in exchange for Obama’s grade transcripts.
robm on January 17, 2012 at 6:10 PM
College transcripts are only worthwhile in evaluating someone you are trying to get the measure of.
The country has had quite an opportunity to get a measure of the man, transcripts won’t change that. All they could do is point out how worthless the schools he went to and how much they inflate grades if they are anything over barely passing.
Betenoire on January 17, 2012 at 6:11 PM
They certainly considered Bush’s college performance to be important. Odd how things like this — or free speech — change when it’s a liberal.

I was actually hoping Romney would answer that debate last night question with, “Sure I’ll release my tax returns when Obama releases his college transcripts and other records he’s spent so much effort hiding from the public.”

Silly side show. The GOP just needs to hammer Obama on the real issues: the economy, regulations, spending, deficit. Pound on those themes, with concrete examples. Gitmo, Afghanistan, Eric Holder, F&F, birth certificate, college transcripts, golf, DADT, electric cars, etc are all valid criticisms, but won’t sway many voters.
Stick to the core issues, and just pound on them. Don’t get distracted by all the less-significant issues.
Mohonri on January 17, 2012 at 6:14 PM
he won’t release his transcripts for a very obvious reason, his bad grades, the only identifiable knowledge we have of his academic prowess was his Law school thesis, which was mocked and ridiculed by his peers for it’s incoherence, and shoddy logic, look it up, it will destroy his “vulcan” mystique that his sycophants in the media enveloped him with.

My guess is these institutions REQUIRE their affirmative action degree recipients to NOT reveal their grades for fear of devaluing the brand. I don’t need to see his lousy grades at this point to know he is an ignorant, unintelligent man. And if his grades were great the schools he went to are as big a joke as Hussein is.

The Washington Post had no trouble publishing the college transcripts for both Chimpy Bush and Algore in the runup to the 2000 election; and in 2004 Chimpy Bush published his college transcript on his own website. His “opponent” that year, after he had just barely lost the election, finally followed suit, and it showed his college grades were inferior to Chimpy’s.
Funny how the WaPo was so curious about the college records of the 2000 candidates, but absolutely incurious about the records of the fellow they endorsed 8 years later.

Romney won’t push the issue. If 2008 was any indication, he’ll likely tell us what a brilliant man 0bama is and how we have nothing to fear from four more years of his brilliance.

Obama can delete his grades. I’m more curious about the courses he took. My guess is that they’ll do nothing but fuel the meme that Obama is a clueless idiot. Lots of multicultural BS. Perfect for a career in low-rent community-organizing. Hardly suitable for leader of the free world.

Romney should simply release EVERYTHING at once. Tax returns, college and law/business school transcripts and thesis papers, LSAT/GMAT scores, even his Myers-Briggs type if he has done that. Let the comparisons then begin. If nobody but Ed Henry bothers to ask for Obama’s test scores and transcripts, we will know for sure they are worthless scribes for Obama.
rockmom on January 17, 2012 at 6:37 PM
Professors remember two kinds of students, those that are incredibly bright and those that are incredibly stupid. I admit I have done no research on the issue but for those of you out there who have my question is this: what have his old college professors said about Obozo?

When GWB was running for office, the left was really concerned about his college grades. Now it’s ‘not a big deal’, especially when referencing Barry’s grades. Must be the “nuance”.
GarandFan on January 17, 2012 at 6:39 PM
This is kind of a moot point question at this time. It really doesn’t take a genius to figure out Mr. Obama may not have been the sharpest tool in the shed. Who has bought and paid for a potential presidential candidate is a little more significant.
DDay on January 17, 2012 at 6:40 PM

tetriskid on January 17, 2012 at 6:40 PM
I think people are missing the real importance of Obama’s college transcripts. It’s not about the grades, it’s about the courses and the professors. It would be embarrassing to the Obama campaign for America to discover how many progressive/socialist/communist courses he took and how many radical professors served as mentors.

F-
As I have correctly noted, the Democrat Media (Washington Post) had already dug up both candidates’ college transcripts in early 2000.
And all along, they have been touting O’bama as some sort of “genius”, while at the same time showing absolutely no curiousity as to whether or not that was Settled Science.
Heck, earlier this year someone leaked Rick Perry’s college records to the Zsa Zsa Post.
You’re saying that O’bama should be held to a totally different standard than his opponents. Why?

So far, I have seen one of O’bama’s “professors” say he remembered him.
That would be Harvard’s Laurence Tribe, well known Democrat Hack for decades.
From the Harvard Crimson:
About 2 weeks ago, Tribe heartily endorsed his former “student” when he made an unprecedented recess appointment while Congress was not in fact in recess; yet in 2007 he heartily condemned Chimpy Bush for daring to make Recess Appointments when Congress was in fact in recess.

I think he got decent grades at Harvard Law, but he was a lousy student at Columbia and a dunce at Occidental. Even my leftist brother-in-law and well-connected Columbia grad has admitted to me that he’s spoken to people in the administration who have admitted as much.
But, all you really need to do is think about how narcissistic this president is – if he even had half-way respectable grades, he’d have them hanging them below the presidential seal on his podium.

The truly revealing info from his transcripts would be the courses he took, which would likely be a hodgepodge of soft social/political science courses typical of a Marxism disciple. Bad grades won’t be in the transcripts, because he can’t fail calculus if he doesn’t take it in the first place.

Wrong. From the LATimes:
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — When members of Harvard Law School’s class of 1999 receive their prestigious degrees Thursday, 36% fewer graduates than last year will be awarded with honors, the school said Wednesday.
The relative scarcity of honors grads is the result of a new policy intended to boost the value of a cum laude degree and remove the stigma associated with not graduating with honors, Harvard Law spokesman Mike Chmura said.
Under a system implemented three years ago that first took effect with this year’s class, Harvard Law said it will limit magna cum laude degrees to the top 10% of the class. The next 30% will receive cum laude degrees.
The policy for summa cum laude, the highest honor, is unchanged. One summa degree was awarded this year, Harvard Law School said.
Under the old system, 76% of Harvard Law grads earned honors, the school said.
Let’s not forget either, the ‘magna cum laude’ or ‘cum laude’ claim is no better than the claim that he is a ‘constitutional expert’. Until I see it on paper it’s just more of his nonsense.
