Quotes of the day
posted at 10:52 pm on January 17, 2012 by Allahpundit
“The questions keep coming. ‘And who was in charge of the body that writes the budget the last time we had a balanced budget in this country?’ ‘Newt!’ ‘Who reformed welfare?’ ‘Newt!’ ‘Who brought the Clinton administration to heel?’ ‘Newt!’ ‘Who do we need in Washington?’ ‘Newt!’ ‘Who do we need making our case on that stage in a debate against President Obama in October and November?’ ‘Newt!’ ‘Who did you see last night was the only guy on the stage that was going to be able to go toe to toe with Chicago politics?’ ‘Newt!’ ‘And who’s the Pee Dee and South Carolina going to vote for come Saturday?’ ‘Newt!’
“Gingrich’s stellar debate performance Monday night in Myrtle Beach seems to have reinvigorated him. He reviews for the crowd his response in the debate to Juan Williams’s question on race and poverty, when Gingrich said that “every American of every background has been endowed by their creator with the right to pursue happiness. And if that makes liberals unhappy, I’m going to continue to find ways to help poor.’
“‘All of the sudden, the audience, spontaneously, started standing and applauding,’ Gingrich reminds today’s crowd. ‘The reason I think they were doing it is we have been fed so much baloney by our liberal elites and we are so sick of people who don’t get it that I think people are just grateful to have somebody who has the courage to tell the truth.’”
“There were signs across the state that voters were giving Mr. Gingrich a second look. The Romney campaign had negative advertisements against Mr. Gingrich at the ready, aides said, and scheduled a call with reporters on Wednesday to discuss Mr. Gingrich’s record ‘as an unreliable leader.’…
“[Santorum] referred to himself as a bold and consistent candidate to draw a contrast with Mr. Gingrich, his chief rival, whom he referred to as ‘bold, but all over the place.’
“‘This is one of the concerns that people have about Newt,’ said Mr. Santorum, who served with Mr. Gingrich in Congress. ‘He has this disconnection with reality that is very disconcerting for someone who wants to lead our country.’”
“What you really have, then, is something like this: about 25 percent of Republican voters are in Mr. Romney’s base (incidentally, about 22 percent of Republicans nationwide voted for Mr. Romney in their party’s primaries in 2008). And about 30 percent of the Republican primary electorate is truly opposed to him…
“That leaves a swing group of about 45 percent of the vote. These voters can certainly imagine candidates that they’d prefer to Mr. Romney — but they also consider him an acceptable choice, more or less.
“What seems to have become clear is that the hypothetical candidate these voters might have preferred to Mr. Romney has not materialized.”
“‘If I had to vote in South Carolina, in order to keep this thing going, I would vote for Newt and I would want this to continue – more debates, more vetting of candidates, because we know the mistake made in our country four years ago was having a candidate who was not vetted to the degree he should have been,’ she told Hannity from her home in Alaska…
“‘I want to see this [race] continue because iron sharpens iron, steel sharpens steel,’ she said.”

I guess I am considered a Romneyboy and I am not attacking her. I have always liked her, but honestly she doesn’t have as much power or sway as you think these days. There is no “panic in Romneyland” after her subtle endorsement of Newt. Nothing will change at all. She’s just another talking head, has been for years.

Heck, I want Fox to honey badger some of this stuff. They need to recover some journalistic cred and I think this would be an admirable starting point.

Romneycare has now been running for president for six years which is more than his entire experience in public office 4 years. The last of which according to wikapedia in 11 months he was out of state campaigning for president for 212 days at a huge cost to taxachusetts. Humm! So this qualifies Willard how!
We can now say, Romneycare is the most experienced pol running, I literally mean running, not governing.

No conservative’s endorsement had more effect in 2010 than Sarah’s. Nikki Haley, Kelly Ayotte, Carly Firorini, Rand Paul, etc. Her endorsement in the primary had an impact on all of these races and helped these candidates get the nomination. It will be interesting to see if her semi endorsement of Newt in SC will have an impact.

Doesn’t seem to be too much excitement here this evening about Perry SURGING to third place in the Texas GOP primary poll.
What a lousy bunch of so-called “supporters.”
Here’s a fellow with a solid 5% in both SC and Florida, now SURGES to third place in his home state, and “silence.”
And I’ll be he’ll be a’top the pack when the latest polls from Turkey come out later in the week.
Sad, really sad.

Commissioner of political practices to resign
9:16 PM, Jan. 17, 2012
**********************
HELENA — The state’s top elections and ethics enforcement official resigned late Tuesday amid allegations that he improperly used his state office and computer to conduct private law practice business on state time.
Commissioner of Political Practices Dave Gallik told the Tribune that he informed Gov. Brian Schweitzer of his decision to resign after learning that his staff in the commissioner’s office called the police Tuesday.
Gallik said he did not know why the staff called police while he was out of the office.
The Tribune on Sunday reported allegations made by all four members of the commissioner’s office that Gallik was fudging state time sheets and logging state pay for hours spent working on private practice matters, a charge Gallik denied.

Sshhhhhhh! Yes, its true that the brighter folks, people willing to bet money and those who have money to bet, are giving romney 93% liklihood of winning SC and a 92% liklihood of winning the nomination, but since the fat ethically-challenged marxist had, in their comical opinion, a good debate, they now are thinking that Romney can be stopped.
Lets let them keep hoping and hoping and talking and screaming and hoping. It will make Saturday so much more hilarious and delicious. They will probably say the vote was stolen or something. Watching Palin-nuts see the candidate who couldnt care less about their loser queen, actually WIN the nomination and start by going 3-0 will be beyond fun. It is great.
Lets let them keep their hopes up.

Horace on January 18, 2012 at 12:07 AM
The campaign strategy of Mitt Romney mirrors that of all the past moderate nominees chosen by the Party. The formula: speak the language of the conservative majority in the Party, claim only a moderate can get elected, divide the vote among the conservatives running for the nomination, mobilize the media to destroy any real conservative challenger, and overwhelm these same challengers with money from the deep-pocket establishment contributors.
The only criterion for people running for president should be: what have they actually done and accomplished in their previous jobs or positions? If there is one lesson to take from the Obama 2008 campaign, it is that relying on words and image can result in choosing a man that is a disaster for the country.

So Palin endorses prolonging the nomination process, rather than endorsing Newt the candidate? She obviously doesn’t support Romney or Newt.
If she supported Santorum she would have endorsed him leaving Iowa. Perry sunk too early before the primaries started and has remained a non-factor. Palin won’t support Paul’s foreign policy. That leaves Palin supporting the only person left…herself.
Her bus tour and lack of endorsement by now show that she wants to keep this GOP log-jam going and provide her with the shortest possible campaign exposure required.

Just like that phony Sarah Palin who pretends to live this real conservative life-style, he has a disgusting life. Illegal drug taking, on his 14th wife. He is a phony. Just like Sarah Palin who holds herself out as some kind of wonderful virtuous example, and even had her daughter attempt to be a role model for abstinence education despite the obvious hypocrisy of Bristol AND Sarah Palin both being pregnant when they got married. Also, their son who just got engaged or married, his fiance was also already growing big in the tummy. What is is with these phonys? No control? No values? Werent raised properly?
