Must watch: “Daily Show” destroys liberal columnist over “civility” hypocrisy

posted at 5:12 pm on January 13, 2012 by Allahpundit

An instant classic, possibly even superior to their interview with that imbecile in San Francisco who wants to ban Happy Meals. Let me tweak the headline, though, since it’s not quite accurate. Better version: “Liberal columnist destroys herself as ‘Daily Show’ cameras roll.” It’s Froma Harrop, whom you’ll remember from her column in August comparing tea partiers — unfavorably — to terrorists who want to blow up the power grid. How they managed to pull off this goof without her wising up, I simply can’t imagine. She must have wised up but, for reasons known only to her, decided to play along with the humiliation. (Being a “good sport,” maybe?) Either that or what we’re seeing here is actually a tour de force of editing that turned what was a routine interview into a surreal expose of oblivious hypocrisy. No one be this clueless for real. Can they?

Besides, people like Harrop and the DNC’s current talking-points robot typically don’t do what they do because they’re blind to their own demagoguery, I think. To believe that is to let them off the hook for the cynical choice they’ve consciously made to smear their opponents for political advantage. There’s plenty of paranoia involved, no doubt, but it’s all in service to an agenda. If Harrop was genuinely this myopic, you could almost forgive her for it. Almost.

Update: Had a video glitch there for a second but it should be working now.

Must have been another glitch. I shared it successfully.

I have a liberal friend who I can have very civil discussions with. He and I were having this kind of discussion just the other day. The people who are screaming the loudest for civil discourse are the least civil. We are living in the age of 1984. She is so lost in her own discourse that she hust does not get it.

huskerthom on January 15, 2012 at 9:08 AM

This is just too good not to share. Sent it to all my Left friends…haven’t had a response yet, hmmmnn

The smug little smirk on her Maoist face says it all.

Instant classic! That should go into the national archives.

I think Froma Harrop has the same problem, with the tea party, as I had with her, when I was just reading her columns. With her name, I was picturing a short, fat, dumpy, yenta sitting there writing opinion pieces, in between drinking shots of Mogen David wine.

I’m sure she has no clue what the tea party is all about and has never really sat down with any people in the tea party movement, for a chat. I might suggest she give Dana Loesch a call and sit down for a few hours for a chat.

I now realize that Froma is a rather cute, and not dumpy, woman who has, apparently, been caught in the liberal bubble and is incapable of forming a rational opinion, especially when it comes to the tea party.

I’ll give her a clue, the tea party is grandma and grandpa, Aunt Flo and Uncle Harry, your neighbor, the crossing guard that tries to get your children across the street in one piece, on their way to school. They are people who really, really care about the country, not only the country they live in, but also the country they’re leaving for their children and grandchildren.

It’s time for Democrats and Liberals to tone down the rhetoric, especially when it comes to the tea party. It’s already cost you the House and Obama’s re-election and there’s a good opportunity it will cost you the Senate. If you’d only engaged the tea party, in civil discourse, it could have been different. It didn’t have to be this way.

It’s not uncivil when a liberal calls a conservative names. It’s only uncivil when a conservative says… anything.

Example: it’s uncivil when a conservative calls for smaller government. But it’s ok when a liberal calls the people calling for smaller government racists.

What always gets me is that liberals think they’re SMARTER for being able to maintain this obvious double standard. The same was true of segregation, of course. But that’s because it was largely the same group of people pushing that belief system.

Either way, she WAS clueless. I doubt she still is. (at least, she knows what people think of her. )

But here’s the thing. The Left thinks that your opinion is irrelevant, because you’re not on their level. The opinion of “the unwashed masses”, or just call them untermensch, doesn’t matter.

Now apply that thought process to the health care system.

For that matter, look at how liberals treat blacks. Yes, we will say some things to get and keep the black vote. And we’ll willingly bankrupt the state in order to buy their votes. But they won’t do anything to help blacks in the long term, because they don’t REALLY matter, except as a voting bloc. And in their ivory towers, they wish the could just… eliminate… enough people to make their plans work.

Okay, that was truly hilarious!

What’s so creepy is reading the comments under this video posted at the Daily Show website. They get the joke but still disagree with the premise. Sounds like the author does as well.

So why isn’t she completing the analogy, from the Left’s point of view, and asking “why do they hate us?” I mean, if the tea party is like terrorists, then that’s the logical question any self-loathing leftist would ask, right? And the answer would be something about American imperialism. But in this case, of course, it would be “intra-national” imperialism — imperialism within our own borders, against our own people. And since statist tyranny is what the left seems hell-bent on inaugurating among us, I can appreciate why she doesn’t “go there” and complete the analogy, and sympathize with the terrorists’ cause if not their methods.

Y’know, its sad but at least a bit sane when someone has a personal death wish. They don’t want to take anyone else with them. Sad.

But what do we call it when the Left seems hell-bent on bringing down Western Civilization itself (perhaps because like swine, they have no idea what this pearl is at all), scrawling a graffitic “Ichabod” on its every institution, its greatest achievements? Practically inviting Islam to consume every last square inch of Western culture-space? It’s as if they presumed there were a suicide pact that the rest of us agreed to, with them.

Personally, I think it’d be a great project to disabuse the Left of the idea that the rest of us will go silently to the graves they’re digging for Western civ. and its bulwark against tyrannies from within or barbarians from without. That’s not something politicians can do, though. It seems to me that not only are the culture wars not over — it’s more like we mistook some brief preliminary saber rattling for the height of battle. We’re nowhere close, yet, to the conflict that’s inevitable IF some of us persist in caring about the American experiment and its religious and philosophical roots.

Not sure if anyone caught the ‘Providence Journal’ newspaper in the vid.
D’oh!!
If you know the ‘Providence Journal’, you get what I mean.

Just like Mark Levin said, “Liberalism is mental disorder”.

Not to pick a nit, but that’s Savage’s line. Everyone uses it nowadays, but he literally wrote the book.
