More disingenuousness from DWS

posted at 4:00 pm on January 13, 2012 by Tina Korbe

According to Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, it was a loss for Mitt Romney when he won Iowa and it was a loss for Mitt Romney when he won New Hampshire. But it’s not just that she thinks winning is losing that’s batty; it’s that she thinks both Iowa and New Hampshire provide evidence that the Republican electorate is not excited to go to the polls in November 2012.

Tuesday night, DWS had this to say: “In addition to that, the Republican turnout was off about 40 percent from the turnout in 2008, showing that this is not a field that their side is very enthusiastic about.”

Au contraire, Ms. Wasserman Schultz. As it turns out, the turnout for the New Hampshire primary set a new record for the GOP. The New Hampshire Union-Leader reports:

Voter turnout Tuesday set a record for a Republican presidential primary but fell short of the Democrats’ turnout record set four years ago.

The Secretary of State’s office released county, city and town summaries showing that 247,223 votes were cast for candidates on the Republican ballot.

That’s a turnout of 45 percent of the 546,411 names of Republican and undeclared voters on the Jan. 4 checklist. …

Gardner said that 60,996 voted in the Democratic primary, far short of the 75,000 he had predicted. Of those, 49,480, or 81 percent voted for President Barack Obama. He noted that in 1996, when Bill Clinton was running for reelection uncontested, there were about 93,000 votes cast in the Democratic primary, which was 82 percent of the votes cast.

So maybe, once upon a time, Democrats in New Hampshire were more excited to vote than Republicans were this year — but it appears Republicans in New Hampshire have never been so excited to vote.

Does the information that Republicans set a new record for GOP voter turnout in New Hampshire change DWS’ reaction to the primary? We’ll see. I’ve sent a media request to her press secretary and will let you know how she responds.

Unless she thinks 40% of the votes in the GOP primary were Democrats voting in GOP primary (‘doubt it, based on exit polls—Huntsman won about 40% of Democrat vote and ended with about 15% of total votes; double his number (which should overestimate Democratic vote, since I’d be assuming that all votes Huntsman got was Democrat votes), and we are still south of 40%).

You know, I really think we need to set up a Baghdad Bob Award for the liar who can tell the best, most creative and blatantly false lie with a straight face. DWS is, in my opinion the best, and would be proud to receive this award.

Here’s a quote highlighting the unique talent of the Iraqi Information Minister slightly modified to fit this remarkable woman:

“In an age of spin, al-Sahaf Ms. Schultz offers feeling and authenticity. His Her message is consistent — unshakeable, in fact, no matter the evidence — but he she commands daily attention by his her on-the-spot, invective-rich variations on the theme. I think Debbie would agree that she “stands superior to truth”.

Emphasis added below.

That’s a turnout of 45 percent of the 546,411 names of Republican and undeclared voters on the Jan. 4 checklist. …

The key is how many were undeclared.

NH has a semi-open primary. That means if you’re not affiliated with either party, then you can vote in either primary.

Further down in the link it states:

Romney received 49 percent of the vote of registered Republicans.

So, of those Rs who voted, 49% voted for Romney.

Now as to turnout:

Unless I missed it, I could not find a number of exactly how many registered Republicans voted, nor how many registered Republicans are on the rolls.

You would need those stats to put together exactly how many Republicans turned out to vote. Only then will you know if DWS is right or wrong.

Roy Rogers on January 13, 2012 at 4:56 PM

Does the information that Republicans set a new record for GOP voter turnout in New Hampshire change DWS’ reaction to the primary?

Of course it doesn’t. As the head of the DNC, she knew all along what the turnout was. She – like all Dem politicians – simply knows that she can get away with lying because she’s not going to be called on it by the Leftists at the news outlets other than Fox. She says it…she isn’t challenged on it…and 90% of the people viewing it will simply accept it at face value. It’s all a part of the “Thousand Cuts” campaign that the Left has been pursuing since the Republican debates began this year.

Alot of good it’s going to do them, though. Contrary to popular perception, the Dems haven’t really been a powerful political presence since Reagan. The two bright spots for them since then – Clinton and Obama – were more the result of flukes than anything else: Clinton won because Perot siphoned votes away from Bush I and Obama/Dems won because the financial crash – which the MSM immediately and constantly blamed on Republicans – hit a month before election day.

The only thing that gets Obama re-elected this time is if Ron Paul runs a 3rd party campaign. Other than that, he loses by about the same margin as he won with in 2008.
