Todd Palin’s much-coveted endorsement goes to … Newt Gingrich

posted at 3:25 pm on January 9, 2012 by Tina Korbe

It’s not because Newt Gingrich necessarily best represents conservative thought. It’s not because Newt Gingrich necessarily stands the best chance to beat Obama. It’s because Newt Gingrich — like Sarah Palin — has withstood intense media scrutiny as a public figure that Todd Palin today endorsed the former Speaker of the House for president.

Palin said he has not spoken to Gingrich or anyone from the former House speaker’s campaign. But he said he respects Gingrich for what he went through in the 1990s and compared that scrutiny in public life to what Sarah Palin went through during her run for the vice presidency.

Todd Palin said he believes that being in the political trenches and experiencing the highs and lows help prepare a candidate for the future and the job of president.

He did not criticize any of the other candidates and said his “hat is off to everyone” in the Republican race.

Sarah Palin has yet to endorse, but her husband’s willingness to throw his name behind a candidate without disparaging the GOP’s other options is respectable. No hype preceded this announcement as hype inevitably precedes the endorsements of better-known figures, like Donald Trump or former GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain (whose promises of an “unconventional” endorsement seem destined to be disappointing in their inevitably inadequate fulfillment). That lack of preemptive self-promotion makes this endorsement more fun than most.

Much coveted Todd Palin endorsement

Todd Palin didn’t do or say anything to merit a dismissive, snarky title. His endorsement was unassuming, from an unassuming and decent person.

The Twerp Woman’s daily soap opera episodes of “Excruciating Anecdotes from My Life” mean nothing?

Also, the suspense in the daily episodes is whether she is Jewish or Catholic that day. Seems to go back and forth depending on the discussion.

A complete joke. But, she says she’s nice to her cats, so there’s that.

Pointing out that ALT Trashed Malkin as a (“shrill Tancrazy extremist”), Bachmann as (Trash), Palin, and Cain in that (“He should keep his fly zipped up”) is trashing them?

WTF?

Just wanted the folks to remember this. She called Bachmann trash on the very day Bachmann withdrew. The Belle of Lubbock (Twerp) is not very classy.

Frobenius on January 9, 2012 at 4:46 PM

Now what is so outrageous about this? Its the TRUTH. IT HAPPENED repeatedly.

That Twerp woman is a bomb thrower, pure and simple and has been for two plus years. If Palin is the Belle of Wasilla then Alt is the Belle of Lubbock.

What? The Twerp Woman’s daily soap opera episodes of “Excruciating Anecdotes from My Life” mean nothing?

I can’t wait to find out if she’s seen an “effin’” spiders, if she had a “freakin’” good day stacking heads of lettuce at WalMart, if she’s kicked any “azzes” of “Perry-hatin’ schmucks.” High drama at its best.

Hates Palin and anyone who doesn’t bend over for Perry. Swoons and drools over Jindal. Thus far has “supported” Pawlenty, Cotter, Jindal, Perry and now Huntsman is her No. 2

The Palins are becoming more and more irrelevant by the day. I’m glad the Palins are behind us and that we won’t have to deal with their soap opera/reality show drama anymore in the campaign. They are probably a nice, fine family, but the name Palin is now political poison. The woman never advanced beyond talking in folksy, cutesy inanity, and then she QUIT her job half way through.

I don’t know why anyone would care who Todd Palin endorses. The Pompous serial adulterer/Freddie Mac lobbyist Newt Gingrich would be a disaster as the nominee, but he will drop out soon enough.

Nothing about his grades, how he paid for college, who he dated, as is the case with OBama.
I know Newt loves his country and would seek to undo the socialist policies, edicts, laws, regulations and deficit spending of the Lyin kING and his Marxist enablers and followers.

xblade on January 9, 2012 at 11:07 PM

Spoken like a true REMF PDSer. Where’s your name on the Republican Presidential Primary? How many votes did you get in Iowa?

John Hitchcock on January 9, 2012 at 11:18 PM

He did not criticize any of the other candidates and said his “hat is off to everyone” in the Republican race.

And that is the most honorable thing to say. That’s should have been the behavior of all GOPers, conservatives and other supporters. I failed to that test, too.

Sadly, even the Candidates and campaign managers failed miserably of respecting their competitors and even non-competitors like Palin. The slimeballs of the on-going campaigns and the completed debates failed miserably in showcasing to the public that Republicans are honorable and gentlemen.

Yeah, Bachmann should have been more like Palin, the only person with enough courage to take on the republican establishment and Obama, but who wasn’t quite brave enough to actually get in the race and take on the republican establishment for a shot at taking on Obama, lol.

More like Palin by sliming Palin to mark the start of her campaign? In that respect, Bachmann failed miserably.

As for Palin not brave enough? Say it again 1000 times to make it true. Palin was fighting almost against everyone after the 2008 election. And her courage is still being questioned. She quit? Is that how you take it without looking at the hindsight the resut? Palin practically saved her State from the intrusion of Obama tacticians and dirty tricks of GOP Establishment in AK (thank you Murkowski and rest of AK dirty republicans).

Palin clearly stated her reason. THIS NATION IS STILL NOT READY TO SUPPORT REAL REFORMERS. OUR BAROMETER FOR LEADERSHIP IS STILL ELECTABILITY (i.e., MONEY AND POWER).

I love how annoyinglittletwerp posts as though anyone anywhere in this Universe and dimension could possibly care what she thinks or does or doesn’t do.

Tenacity at its finest.

The Romneybots are getting nervous they know the blood bath is coming in South Carolina. Willard is not going to make it when the Tea Party unites behind Gingrich and Palin. Sarah Palin could deliver Newt the nomination and hopefully she is his Veep.

CoolChange80 on January 10, 2012 at 1:06 AM

She quit?
TheAlamos on January 9, 2012 at 11:27 PM

She sure did, Alamoose.

AshleyTKing on January 10, 2012 at 1:06 AM

funny the belittling of Todd in some of the responses.

especially since an endorsement of about this most no-nonsense independent guy will have a bigger impact in that “unimportant” Palin-crowd than any other endorsement by anyone else except Palin

Remind me again why I should care who Todd Palin endorses…

deuce on January 9, 2012 at 4:38 PM

The endorsement wasn’t directed to you, deuce. It was directed to those who like and admire the Palins and are interested in their political opinions–that is, it was directed to people like me.

And it will be important, because there are quite a few of us. Sorry to have to tell you that, but it’s true.

You have nothing to be sorry about.

Hey I’m curious about what he thinks, he’s only married to Sarah. Only a strong, smart, and did I say strong man can handle Sarah, no offense to either intended.
Yeah, i’m interested…

OMG! OMG! Bloody Mary Palin at it again!!!1111!11!1 I weep for the future!!!11!11!11!

steebo77 on January 10, 2012 at 8:41 AM

Great move. Push Santorum in Iowa and now Gingrich in SC and FL. Add in Paul and Romney is going to have a hard time winning the nomination. Sarah to the rescue.

huckleberryfriend on January 10, 2012 at 9:42 AM

“Sure looks like lot of folks here have a visceral hated for the Palins..”

Waaaay too much for my taste. I still support her and would have voted for her in both the primary and the general election, joyfully.

ncjetsfan on January 10, 2012 at 10:39 AM

This endorsement might have helped a month ago.

But not much.

Newt will be a good Secretary of Agriculture.

profitsbeard on January 10, 2012 at 10:40 AM

I’m glad the Palins aren’t taking swipes at one candidate or the other that they happen to dislike. Both–particularly Sarah who is often on Fox–are remaining resolutely positive, pointing out good qualities of each. This is the kind of instinct for grounded common sense that I have come to appreciate with that family. The Palins never fail to remind us that our first objective as conservatives is the practical one of defeating Obama.

For those who are mocking Todd because he’s backing someone who’s fifth in some polls, all I can say is that those mockers, I think, have Todd confused with Mitt. Remember Mitt is the one with the finger in the wind who often waited in 2010 to endorse until after the election was held. Mitt is the one who over and over failed to comment on Obama’s actions until there was a consensus formed in the media about what would be politically correct.

Burke on January 10, 2012 at 10:43 AM

What an idiotic reason to endorse someone.

Dante on January 10, 2012 at 10:53 AM

Palin, either one, carries all the weight of an endorsement from Joe the plumber.

Moesart on January 10, 2012 at 11:03 AM

Todd who?
Oh ya, the commercial fisherman from Wasilla.
Well, good for you buddy, I’m sure that the entire nation hangs on your every fish hook.

As a conservative & a former Alaskan, I’m a big Sarah fan. But I can care less who Todd endorses.

Newt, and virtually all of the GOP candidates have bitten off each others noses to spite their faces.

I hope the damage done doesn’t equate to a Zero win in 2012.
We’re our own worst enemy.

litebeam1 on January 10, 2012 at 12:23 PM

Why does anyone care? Why does the media ask? Can’t wait to see who Lady Gaga endorses! Pins and needles, I am sitting on!
