Video: Mother with a gun

posted at 9:15 pm on January 6, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via Fox News Insider, drop what you’re doing and spend four minutes having your mind blown by the preternatural poise of a teen mom confronted in her home by a would-be killer. I’ve read a bunch of stories this week about what happened to her, including Rich Lowry’s piece today at NRO (from which I’m stealing the headline), but nothing will prepare you for hearing her explain in her own words how coolly she assessed the situation. Bear in mind, she’s 18 years old, her husband died of cancer just one week earlier, and she had not one but two lunatics attempting to break down her door and do who knows what. And yet: “I knew if I screamed I would give my position away in the house. And I wanted to see him first.” Unbelievable.

Exit quotation: “Female participation in target shooting in the U.S. has nearly doubled in the last decade, growing to nearly five million women since 2001.”

Sarah Palin has weighed in on this and fully supports this young woman. She said she expects her daughters to act accordingly if they are ever confronted with a threat like this young woman. I hope this young woman has a family support group nearby. Imagine, 18, a recent widow, brand new baby, and dealing with this horror alone.

Makes me want to move her into my house and help her raise her baby. Or at least give her a hug.

Hope she can deal with this on top of the death of her husband. May she good friends and family there for her!

RedNewEnglander on January 6, 2012 at 9:25 PM

She did everything by the book.

Unfortunately in rural Oklahoma this kind of thing is a fact of life. Big counties with very few police, rednecks hopped up on drugs and up to no good. Its usually drunks or meth heads that try it on. Turns out these guys were on Oxycodone and looking for any drugs her deceased husband might have left behind.

God bless her and her child.

CorporatePiggy on January 6, 2012 at 9:26 PM

Excellent job there, Sarah! (Hey, good name for her!)

Too bad she wasn’t able to dispatch the other slug, too.

As Fletch54 said, True Grit – in a mighty fine fashion.

Bear in mind, she’s 18 years old, her husband died of cancer just one week earlier, and she had not one but two lunatics attempting to break down her door and do who knows what.

Bear in mind Obama doesn’t want her to have those guns and the ability to protect herself. That was what arming the Mexican drug cartels was all about. First you create hundreds of deaths by arms smuggling and then you go all James Brady over the Second Amendment. The problem here is that the very people responsible for preventing that smuggling was actually doing the smuggling and laundering the cartel’s money to boot. Eric Holder is a criminal and so are a whole lot of others in this corrupt organization laughingly called the Department of Justice. The whole lot of them should be in jail.

Ms McKinley’s 58-year-old husband

the couple were married two years ago.

Nobody is curious as to how a 58 year-old cancer patient ends up married to teen-ager? She apparently loved the man but which of you men thinks a 15 year old is ready to sign off with a senior?

I’m glad she shot the druggie. I’m sorry she missed one.

Now, about this 58 year old messing around with a 15 yr old part………

KMC1 on January 6, 2012 at 9:45 PM

Jeez. Some strong emotions here. I was quoting from

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2082716/Sarah-McKinley-Teen-mom-shoots-dead-intruder-Justin-Shane-Martin-looking-prescription-drugs.html#ixzz1ijihVJDT

Ms McKinley’s 58-year-old husband Kenneth had died from lung cancer on Christmas Day, leaving behind their three-year-old son Justin, and an arsenal of cancer medications.

So the Daily Mail says three year old, not three month old. Like I was saying — these things are never as they appear to be. They didn’t even get a basic fact right. My point is — people, such as myself, often leap to conclusions about the facts of crimes. Or, they just don’t get them right. I’m working on that, myself. It’s a human tendency, for emotion to take over.

So the baby is three months, not three years? That makes more sense. Do we know the age of the deceased husband yet? Loss of life is sad to me. She seemed well within her rights to kill him. Now I worry about her emotional health. So you guys, get back to your emotional ranting. Don’t let me interrupt.

She lived outside of Tuttle which is southwest of OK City. If she lived in the boonies, which I believe she did, it could have taken them a while to get there. Some of the roads there are still dirt, and I’m not talking gravel. I mean plain old dirt roads; not much more than trails in some cases. I used to work the oilfields there, and it can take some time to get from one place to another.

Martin had tried to gain entrance into her home days before, he knew her husband had died. He gave her some lame excuse to come in she wouldn’t let him. He came back with an accomplice days later.

It’s incredible this is such a big story. She was in the clear the minute he came over her threshold. Oklahoma has Make My Day Law, but the person has to make it over the threshold and advancing.

The Oklahoma Castle Doctrine, otherwise known as the Make My Day law, states you can only shoot an intruder if they have entered your home.

Attorney Doug Frieson told Newson6.com that the law always protects someone in their home, no matter the circumstances.

‘The simple fact that you’re unauthorised in the home is enough that allows the homeowner to use deadly force.’

The Castle Doctrine is lot more liberal in Texas.

Self defense situations like this occur multiple times a week across the country, but the national news media ignores them. When ABC News picked up this one, they sounded shocked that something like this actually occurred.

The NY Media Bubble shields the editors from the realities occurring in the rest of the country. The self-defense blog that served as a single source for news stories across the country was sued by a Vegas newspaper, and thus was shut down. Shame, because that was the only single point of info for self-defense shootings.

Dollayo on January 6, 2012 at 10:01 PM

For all you Hot Gas nose stickers, old hens, busybodies and those yelling “Citizen’s arrest!, here is a statement of the Oklahoma law:

klahoma The age of consent is eighteen. With parental consent, parties can marry at age sixteen (and younger) and, in addition, younger parties may receive a license by reason of pregnancy or the birth of a child. Common law marriage is recognized.

So, she could have been late 15 or very early 16 when they were married with a license of declared a common law marriage.

A common law marriage can be done in Oklahoma by the couple living together permanently, exclusively, husband and wife by agreement, publicly proclaiming themselves married. No age limit is given.

So, it appears she was totally legal. And they were together 3 years and the baby is 3 months old. Yeah, try proving statutory rape based upon those facts.

So, to all you “nosers,” that’s that.

Meth is a *huge* problem in many poor rural areas. Meth heads with weapons are incredibly dangerous because they are literally out of their minds and frequently highly aggressive.

One of the silver linings to this story is that under Oklahoma law the accomplice (who was not shot) is being charged with 1st degree murder…

How smart it was for her to get the backup handgun since she knew the shotgun hadn’t been fired in a long time. I am so amazed by her actions and coolness under the immediate stress, much less the stress from losing her husband on Christmas Day. You couldn’t make this up.

God bless this young woman and her baby, and I am sending money tonight to help her out, and hope others can do so too.

The baby was three months old, not three years old.

The police set up a fund for her: Sarah McKinley Fund, Chickasha Bank & Trust, 1525 N Council Hwy 76, Blanchard OK 73010.

NOW should recognize Sarah McKinley as an empowered woman, bot NOW would admire more had she aborted her baby.

It’s one of the reasons I won’t ever live in a 55+ community.
Imagine hearing this kind of crap live and on a daily basis?

I get a kick out of you folks who are supposedly Conservative. You are willing to overlook a senior citizen having sex with a little girl because she shot an intruder dead. Big deal. Its not about her killing the guy – he obviously deserved it. I wish she’d have gotten his accomplice too. She wouldn’t have been in this situation to begin with if she was raised in a proper family in the first place. And that is the issue.

Obviously.

But ya’ll go on ahead defending a “man’s right” to bork a little girl. I’ll jist sit back and marvel at your moral values gymnastics.

Libs sneaking in during the last two open registrations.

They abhor this kind of violence. And will do anything to attack this woman’s character.

What a story! “I knew if I screamed I would give my position away in the house. And I wanted to see him first.” Lady we could use more like you. Hat tip to you Sarah Dawn McKinley.

I wouldn’t call them moralistic at all.

More like stuck-up liberal jerks who think their personal morals should apply to everybody.

As the father of a teenage girl, I’d shoot anyone 40 years older messing with my daughter, regardless of the legality of such an arrangement.

On the other hand, I’m generally in favor of shooting intruders.

This is like a pulp novel.

Sadly, to young in both cases. They would be inordinately better than the current occupant of the White House.

cozmo on January 6, 2012 at 10:08 PM

The Oklahoma Castle Doctrine, otherwise known as the Make My Day law, states you can only shoot an intruder if they have entered your home.

I know what you mean, but the way that other article in your link worded it is not really correct. It is not that you can ONLY shoot if they enter your home, it is that you can ABSOLUTELY shoot them, and that you do not have a legal obligation to retreat, as you would in “non-Castle” states. Situation may be different state-to-state regarding obligation to retreat when NOT inside your home.

I will never live in a state that obligates me to retreat whether in or outside of my home.

Are you jealous or something? Did that cute little check out gal at Stop ‘n Shop turn down your offer of a ride home again?

Legality of the age of consent. I assume shooting your daughter’s “friend” is prima facie illegal.

Sad she had to do it, but good for her on pulling the trigger. She could probably get a job taking bombs apart.

And because he took the time to teach his wife to shoot, both her and his son are alive today. That’s a good husband in my book. No doubt he also spent time before he died, explaining to her how to be careful after he was gone. That she would have to look after the baby by herself. He may have died on Christmas, but he still protected them by teaching her how to shoot when he was alive.

Why did the judge let the other intruder out on bail? He was an accomplice he admitted why they were trying to break into the house? The dead husband’s pain medication. That’s called a confession where I come from.

Dr Evil on January 6, 2012 at 10:09 PM

I think the article had an error, her baby is 3 MONTHS old, not 3 YEARS old. However, based on the rest of article, it is apparent she got involved with him when she was only 16. There are no mention of her parents or family so maybe that might be why she found a home with her husband, who she said she loved very much.

karenhasfreedom on January 6, 2012 at 10:09 PM

Looking at the husband’s picture, I wonder if the Daily Mail got his age wrong too. Maybe they meant to type 28 and hit the wrong key?
