Another Obama donor convicted of fraud

posted at 7:05 pm on December 30, 2011 by Tina Korbe

File this one under culture of corruption. Obama supporters just can’t seem to stay out of trouble, can they? This latest scandal involves a former Tarheels basketball player and a $21 million bank fraud scheme. New York Daily News reports:

Courtney Dupree was convicted of vastly overstating the billings of his Long Island City-based lighting company GDC Acquisitions in order to fraudulently obtain a loan from Amalgamated Bank.

Dupree, 42, sat stone-faced as the verdict was read in Brooklyn Federal Court. He faces up to 30 years in prison and has to pay back at least $18 million. …

Dupree, who attended the elite Wharton School of Business, was a rainmaker in Democratic circles.

In 2008, Dupree hosted a $1,000-a-ticket fund-raiser for Barack Obama at his Broad St. apartment that was attended by top aide Valerie Jarrett.

His company counted NBC Universal and Goldman Sachs among its clients.

Such corruption occurs on either side of the aisle, of course, but that makes it no less disappointing when it happens.

Gee, I thought this was going to be about Mr. Doodad Pro.

When is he going to be indicted, anyway (Doodad, that is)?

I’m surprised he was convicted. Obama and Holder usually do a better job of protecting their talent. More than likely, he will be pardoned. As for repaying at least 18 mil, when pigs fly.

To Obama’s credit, there is this: http://www.fbi.gov/newyork/press-releases/2010/nyfo072310.htm

This case was brought in coordination with President Barack Obama’s Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force. President Obama established the interagency Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force to wage an aggressive, coordinated, and proactive effort to investigate and prosecute financial crimes.

Of course, one could translate this as — take $21M from a private bank and get prosecuted, but take $500M from the Government and get off with a wrist slap.

Already been pointed out, but let me pile on:

Such corruption occurs on either side of the aisle, of course, …

Sorry, this is a liberal talking point. Please don’t use it.

In this election year, you can bet the Democrats are going to be pointing the finger at world+dog saying “The real problem is: everyone does it.” No, the real problem is: Democrats in cahoots with this administration are deliberately driving this country into the ground. That has to be taken care of first.

Then the rest of the swamp.

No more Mr. Nice Republican Candidate. The gloves come off this election cycle. Every misdeed of this administration has to be hammered home to every American. There is no lack of material. Citizens of this country must be so sick of the progressive fantasy that they don’t fall for it for at least another century.

what if: Dupree takes the gamble, gets caught. A couple of years worth of appeals and more trials, story becomes old news.

Still has 3 million (21m – 18m) hidden away from the lawyers, ya know, a fee for the bumpady-bump of the bus. The lawyers use up most of the 18 million in fees, somewhat like hyenas after a long fasting.

Fast-forward to the end:
Anonymous donation to the re-election of an old friend. Gets a pardon (assuming the long-shot of failing appeals), next career move, Head of EPA. (He is, after all, a friend of Jarrett’s.)

askwhatif on December 31, 2011 at 10:41 AM

I believe that the plug was pulled on the Blago investigation prematurely because some VERY IMPORTANT people were about to get involved in the bidding. Otherwise, the Feds would have continued to monitor the phone lines to see how many crooks would reveal themselves.
