It begins: Radio ad asks Iowans to caucus for Palin

posted at 10:35 am on December 28, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Iowans might feel a bit overwhelmed by the choices for next Tuesday’s Republican caucuses for the GOP presidential nomination, but one independent group has begun running radio ads insisting that there is still room for one more choice. Calling itself “Sarah Palin’s Iowa Earthquake,” the group will target specific markets in Iowa asking voters to line up behind the Republican Party’s most prominent non-candidate, and other ads will apparently follow:

Can Iowans caucus for Palin at this late date? Sure. Unlike primary states, there is no “ballot” in the legal sense at caucuses. Attendees can write in names on the list of candidates they receive at the caucuses, and those votes will count. Of course, without Palin on the ballot and not officially in the race, not too many caucus-goers may choose to vote for her. If enough are dissatisfied with the current choices, though, she might be a handy code for None of the Above — and might get some significant level of support if the ads prompt enough Iowa voters to consider this as an option.

If so, who does that hurt most? Probably not Mitt Romney, whose base of support doesn’t have a lot of overlap with Palin’s. Newt Gingrich rose in the polls mainly on Tea Party support, so he’d be likely to feel the sting a little more, especially for those who backed Gingrich because he looked like the only viable alternative to Romney or Ron Paul. Paul might lose a little of his more recent support, but he’s going to get hurt more over his old newsletters and the vetting of his foreign-policy kookiness. It may end up hurting the candidates in the second tier struggling for an Iowa miracle — Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann. That’s assuming, of course, that it has any impact at all.

Let’s take a look at all five. The first two spots focus on the need to clean up crony capitalism:

The third goes after the three Iowa frontrunners, using quotes from Romney, Paul, and Gingrich as a springboard to get voters to draft Palin:

The final two use the audio from an old Ronald Reagan ad, “Bear in the Woods”:

TEX,

You quoted the same guy that endorsed Romney in Feb 2008….LOL! Learn to think for yourself and you won’t get in that kind of trouble. Not only that, but speaking of “courage” and Palin in the same sentence is laughable.

“Palin supporters NEVER hate anybody..”

“scum”
“crap and garbage”
“ignorant little mind”
“crawl back under the slimy rock you slither from”
“nasty and miserable”

The hypocrisy and contradictions are over the top.

You seem to be full of hate, anger, vitriol…..you know, the characteristics you pretend to oppose. Lots…lots of projection there, kid.

A Message to Conservative Voters in Iowa

In about a week’s time you will have the privilege, and the responsibility, of kicking off this 2012 Election Cycle on which so much depends as regards the future of Constitutional America.

The rules in your State permit you to write down a potential Candidate’s name even if they are not on the list of official “Runners” for the GOP POTUS Nomination. There will be relatively few Delegates (28) overall, to the GOP Convention next August, awarded on a proportional basis according to the results of your Caucuses on January 3rd 2012, but the way you vote will have impact indeed.

Your vote will be significant yet again this cycle, in that it is first, and you will have no prior results to influence your decision, but instead could set the trend for successive GOP votes in States after yours.

You are in a unique position because, of all GOP voters nationwide, you can feel free to truly vote FOR a Candidate, or even write down your preferred potential Candidate, who may well respond to a Draft Petition in the future (Deo Volente = G-d Willing). You have the liberty to actually write down the name of a person you really believe in,

who is NOT4SALE

whose record shows they have never been 4SALE

who can be trusted

who has fought corruption successfully in the past

who has the Steel Spine to cut spending and reduce the enormous National Debt

who has the right ideas and expertise with respect to the development of American Energy Resources

who believes in empowering the American Entrepeneur by keeping taxes low, thus powering up Employment

and who can, and will get America thriving again.

GOP voters in States after you may have other factors affecting their decision, and could feel compelled to reluctantly select someone whose record and character are less than ideal, or even woeful, in order to try and stop someone worse.

You Constitutional Conservatives in IOWA, alone, have the liberty to choose freely, and to vote *your American Heart*, because of the Caucusing rules in your State and the absence of other factors influencing your decision. You can write down the name of the Leader whom you judge to be the best equipped to serve America from the WH, in these days of peril with respect to The Constitution, if you so choose.

You are exhorted to prayerfully consider your decision as never before and to VOTE ROGUE if you are led to do so, and to defy those in the Permanent Political Class, the GOP Establishment and the Media who would attempt to manipulate you into following the path that *they* deem to be best for America.

Constitutional Conservatives all over the country will be praying for you concerning the decision you will make, as January 3rd 2012 approaches. May Divine Providence have His Hand upon you as you discuss these weighty matters with others in your State and prepare to cast your most significant vote, that your decision will set in motion a series of events, culminating in American Leadership which once again brings Honor to Our Creator, from Whom our rights are received and Who is the source of all Blessing, Liberty and Freedom.

A fighting nation will be awaiting your decision, your leadership, in this Battle for Constitutional America.

The Palin Clown Bus Tour is more than happy in reality showville.

Palin’s own daughter accidentally slipped long ago and admitted that her mother had already made the decision.

Even Palin herself said she could do just as much good with Facebook spitballing.

Still so rattled by Couric she still can’t face the media.

She has handed you more than enough clues, so face reality, Quitter Cultists.

nottakingsides on December 29, 2011 at 11:32 AM

Carolina21 is clearly off her rocker, but I wouldn’t so easily discount her story about being attacked by the ‘nistas. I’ve had it happen to me and it’s turned me off somewhat too, and I was a big supporter of hers. The thing is, the ‘nistas will not accept the slightest, mildest of remarks that could possibly be misconstrued as criticism. In my case, it came when Palin resigned and I made a remark (on a Palin site that shall remain nameless) that we should consider the possibility that she wasn’t going to run for POTUS in 2012.

I was viciously, mercilessly and personally attacked. Had to quit the site. And here we are 2 1/2 years later and I was dead right.

Glad to be back at HA by the way, used to be here, somehow lost my registration, tried to sign back up a few times…but I’m finally back. Fiscal con, social mod, voted straight Repub since the Gingrich Revolution in the 90s.

Never in my long life have I seen the panic and out right hatred over the possible candidacy of one person. A person who did no one any harm, no matter what her detractors say. No on the contrary was so affective at opposing her own party for corruption, that the left craps their drawers at the mere mention of her name.

Over the last 6 months or so, we saw these anti Palin zealots come with lies, and half truths. The numbers are not that large, but very vocal. They accuse Palin supporters of being rude, of all kinds of garbage, but I ask you to read who has done this.

This country is at a crossroads, which course do we take? Do we listen to the MSM? Do we once again allow the Establishment to choose our candidate? We have a golden opportunity to change Washington, but the powers that be also know this, thus the garbage from the left and establishment right. Those who come here to rag on Palin have an agenda, we know this, the only thing lacking is from what side they speak. Conservative army, for once use your head and put the MSM built fears behind you. We can be free, or we can be sheep herded by the powers of evil. The choice is yours. They gave us Korea, and then refused to win, no they took the first opportunity to quit. They then gave us Viet Nam, a war that we won hands down, but they found a way to turn it into a loss.

Now we must look at legislation that has passed that has made us weaker, and it made no difference who had the majority, no heavens no, the left always found one or two Republicans to stab the base in the back. John McCain, Lindsey Graham, The Maine twins, ect. Now that we have seen the game that has been played on us for decades, we have had enough. Does anyone think they will just quit, no, you see their agenda on parade in almost every Blog site in the comments. They pretend to be this or that, but in reality they are anti good, anti freedom, anti fairness. No they continue to take from the doers and give to the freeloaders. Palin would change this, can’t have that bring out the lying artillery and fire away. The thing that gets me is how weak minded and kneed some on our side are. Yeah lets fight until victory is in reach, and then quit. Hell we done it every time since WW11, that we are used to it, grab those knees, OR DA_N IT FIGHT LIKE your life depends on, because IT DOES.

Conversely, it would seem like the Palin haters, who claim she is so insignificant, wouldn’t keep rushing to these threads screeching “cultist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” at her supporters, but we see how it went on this thread, don’t we?

JannyMae on December 29, 2011 at 5:30 PM

P-A-L-I-N only 5 letters. Iowa, you have the power to change the course of history. 30,000 people voting for Palin in Iowa could change 2012 as we know it!

CoolChange80 on December 29, 2011 at 9:15 PM

Every Iowa Republican that voted for her to be VP can send a message to Republicans and Write-In P-A-L-I-N. 5 Letters can change the world!

CoolChange80 on December 29, 2011 at 9:16 PM

Wow! The hate and anger is more intense than ever from the Palin fans. Or maybe only the sockpuppet “scrub” tier is left trying to wing it. Who knows?

They must be in the deepest of denial at this point, and have desperately ramped up their (proven to fail) abusive and pointless tactics in all areas.

I suppose they can keep this up until the very day the 2012 POTUS is actually elected.

Well at least Palin will sell more DVD’s and books. The reality show probably won’t do as well though, unless the Palin clowns have another self-victimizing drama or two.

against Great SARAH PALIN?!

You are obsessed and depraved,a clinical case of a sick, sick puppy….

It’s OK,you’re not alone, many deranged psychopaths are with you.

Relax, guys in white suits are coming…..

TEX on December 29, 2011 at 11:54 PM

Tex,

I really hate to say this, but you are really hurting Palin’s brand. She doesn’t want to be associated with your kind, your obsequious obsessive stalker creepiness toward her, or your hate and anger. You are hurting her cause (DVD/booksales, reality shows, etc..).

I say this with only the best intentions, and hope that you face reality one day. Best wishes! And my heart is with you, kid.

Ooooh,ain’t that touchy?!

From a hateful and to Governor Palin very insulting and highly despicable low life troll, you all of a sudden turn into a
“concerned” troll.

Only after you got smacked right between your shifty, hateful eyes.

Take your “concern” and shove it…………………

You are not here to debate anything, all you do is being creepy
and pathologically obsessed with Governor Palin.

Get some help,get a life……..

Someone with the “nottakingsides” handle has almost 1700 comments on Hot Air since 2007 or so (that’s as far back as I went, at least: no, you’re not a career move LOL, but I got curious so I spent an hour or so googling).

You mentioned at one point recently that you’ve been posting for years, so I’m inclined to believe they’re all the same person.

You used to be …not quite so angry. What happened?

(I didn’t read them all of course …some of the earlier ones, and a smattering of the later.)

Early on, you argued in good faith; you weren’t a jerk. I noted from your early comments that you weren’t an Obama supporter. And I don’t think you are now, either, actually. You don’t like Palin, obviously LOL.

But the, umm, intensity of your anti-Palin rants I don’t understand at all. The early nottakingsides seems a stark contrast with the bile evidenced in this thread.

So. The threads pretty much getting ready to disappear anyways:

Assuage my curiousity?

davisbr on December 30, 2011 at 2:06 AM

So I average less than a post per day and you are amazed by this. I go for weeks and months without posting also, amazing huh? Please tell me more!

davisbr: truth = anger, opinion that differs from yours = hate, exposing Palin = intense hate, exposing Romney = great analysis, praising Palin = pro-American, etc.., etc..

Realize your hypocrisies and contradictions. Look at the comments that you are perfectly fine with, and realize how ridiculous and transparent you and your rants are.

Some expose the truth about Palin, and some praise her. The former angers you. Get over it.

The former angers you: LOL. Dude!

Your response is …intriguing …nottakingsides …odd, but interesting.

…so I guess the answer to my question is “no”?

That’s okay; I was hoping a bit, but I can live with the curiousity.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost

…dunno why that sprang to mind, but seemed apropo.

…heh.

davisbr on December 30, 2011 at 9:06 AM

No one wishes to defend their candidates and help me make a decision on which one to support?

I’m surprised.

Since Palin’s not in it and won’t be in it (I love what you’re saying, Sachiko, but I gotta face the facts that right now, she ain’t in), I need a candidate to vote for.

I did my research and found all of them to be the political equivalent of a stem of broccoli. If anyone can convince me, completely, that their candidate is the best to run, I may be convinced to vote for that candidate.

But the reasons have to be compelling. If they are not compelling, I will likely turn them off completely.

Y’all have enough time. Please submit them now.
