Feelgood video of the day: Store clerk knocks armed robber out cold

posted at 4:20 pm on December 27, 2011 by Allahpundit

Via Wizbang, be sure to check out the stills at the Daily Mail of this guy forcing the robber to wipe up his own blood off the store’s floor. Before I saw that, I was going to propose a Christie/Mothershead ticket next year. After I saw it, I’m thinking more like Mothershead/Christie.

Easily the most devastating knockout blow since Tim Pawlenty punched himself in the face by whiffing on “ObamneyCare” at that debate.

LOL @ “hard-rightwing conservatives” are you serious? I’ve been here for quite a few years, friend, I know what kind of “intolerance” is tolerated here. BTW, “islamophobia” is just a made-up word to deflect legitimate criticism as some kind of new “world racism”, spare us.

Robert Jensen on December 27, 2011 at 5:56 PM

When I came to this country 28 years ago, I worked for the convenience store, it happened to me 5 times, I could have done like that but the store policy specifically stated that “do not resist”, let them have it, it’s not worth your life and with my poor English, I had to follow the store policy, stayed out of trouble.

Wait until CAIR gets a hold of this. After a brother is assaulted, he is humiliated by the kuffar and made to clean up his own innocent blood of Islam. And the Kuffar said he was waiting for the brother. It was a setup by the oppressive Islamophobic forces in America.

Scribbler on December 27, 2011 at 6:02 PM

Depends a lot on what the ‘trouble’ is.

For example, a black father telling his rebellious teenage son to ‘stay out of trouble’ has a very different meaning than a store manager telling the min-wage peons to ‘stay out of trouble’.

In the one case ‘staying out of trouble’ is pretty much a 100% voluntary choice. In the other? Not so much.

Great job. Shame he wasn’t armed…I know it’s easy to be a MMQ, but to me it looked like the opportunity he seized would also have worked for a close quarter point-shoot.

What the heck is it with employers and their ‘policies’ of submission? Employees are paid to perform a role within a business; they are not paid to sacrifice responsibility for their lives. It always makes me mad to read of these employers that seem to believe that they have automatic authority to dictate the terms & conditions under which their employees may preserve their futures. Disgusting, and sadly all too common. How many of these employers would accept any responsibility for injured/dead employees?

I would never institute any such vulgar policy – and I would never obey one either (a horrifying concept for the sheeple to consider).

No, smart people like me know that this guy isn’t going to turn a potential armed robbery bid into a life sentence for first-degree murder by shooting the hapless clerk after getting the money. And it’s not defending yourself when the crook is only interested in taking your employer’s property. Not that that really changes anything: I’d still rather lose my wallet or any other material possession than take a bullet. Wouldn’t you?

Are you actually that ignorant of the real world? Clerks are shot and killed all the time. Just google “clerks shot during robbery” . You will find dozens and dozens of cases of clerks being shot who did not resist.

A convenience store clerk was fatally shot in an apparent attempted robbery late Thursday, police said.

Yoop on December 27, 2011 at 7:37 PM

Nice sample Yoop. I’ve seen lots of these in my life. What theo doesn’t seem to understand is that criminals are typically not the brightest bulbs out there, and yes they will risk life in prison for killing someone, because they are already risking that possiblity for the armed robbery on top of whatever record they already have. Many believe by killing all witnesses they will get away with it completely. Look at how many criminals out there just wanted to kill people – Columbine, Virginia Tech, and many many more – and they’re not all necessarily suicidal either – just total sociopaths. If they can make a few bucks in the process its that much better. As soon as someone pulls a gun on you under ANY circumstances, you should assume you may be dead soon it you DON’T fight back.

dentarthurdent on December 27, 2011 at 8:45 PM

If theo was at Columbine he probably would have given up and suggested maybe the killers just needed a hug.

Aristotle would opine that people who think they are smart are anything but. He would also say that being smart denotes neither wisdom or a moral sense of justice. The punch was carefully deliberated and delivered at just the right moment with courage and strength. Sorry for you that you will never know that feeling. Arrogance (“smart people like me”)may play well with your cowardly friends but it’s nothing to be proud of.

southsidetom on December 27, 2011 at 8:48 PM

When liberals call themselves “smart,” what they really mean is self-centered.

When liberals call themselves “moral,” what they really mean is self-righteous.

When liberals call themselves “generous,” what they really mean is selfish.

Do you see the common denominator here?

logis on December 27, 2011 at 8:53 PM

theodore on December 27, 2011 at 7:21 PM

So, you’re really sure about that? You know for sure that a person unstable enough to commit a felonious act such as an armed holdup is stable enough not to get nervous and shoot the clerk or get spooked and start shooting? You’d be willing to bet your life on that if you had an alternative action available? That’s the same thing that we were all told prior to 9/11 in case of a hijacking: just go along with the perps, the airline and government will work quickly to get you released and returned to the US.

In this case, the clerk took available action to ensure that he was not a victim. The perp did not have quick access to his weapon, the clerk was much larger and appeared in better physical condition. Had this been me, I would not have been able to try this kind of intervention, I’m short but I’m slow. However, that’s why God created Sam Colt. Paraphrasing Heinlein, “Never scare a person of small physical appearance, he can’t take any chances”

When presented with a life-threatening situation, it’s too easy to second guess the actions of the person in that situation. However, it is always better for the would-be victim to gain control of the situation than to let the perp maintain control

theo reminds me of a dad I had to deal with in my cub scout pack (I was the CubMaster). I brought in the Society for Creative Anachronism people for a pack meeting to do a show of knighthood and rennaissance life, including a fencing demo. This guy went nuts about such a “horrible display of violence in front of the kids”. He is (and his kids will be) the theo types that can’t handle the real world and will very likely end up as the submissive victim.

dentarthurdent on December 27, 2011 at 9:18 PM

People like theodore like to lecture from their pusillanimous moral high ground to divert attention from the acts of brave people. They know they wouldn’t have the fortitude or courage to attempt anything like that, and that inability leaves them feeling inadequate. Therefore, it is important for pusillanimous moral high-grounders to dismiss the acts of those who would stand up for themselves.

People like this are just total morons. You’re going to risk getting shot in order to protect the (insured) property of the employer that’s paying you $9 an hour to stand there? Really?

It’s not the property. It’s the principle. Why do we have to roll over and let thugs bully, intimidate, and rob us? Who cares if the property is insured? If robbers (and other various criminals) knew there was a populace not afraid to stand up to them, perhaps there’d be less crime.

Self-defense is a God-given right. End of story.

The Daily Mail carries stories days ahead of U.S. sites, and sometimes, even those stories (that are worthy to U.S. citizens) that U.S. sites won’t, with emphasis on situations like this one where a citizen confronts and overpowers attempted crime.

Which is supremely ironic, given in the UK it’s illegal to put wire around your home to defend against intruders because…the wire might harm the intruder.

Absolutely. Anyone who tries to rob a store that has been robbed before, and uses a pellet gun, is probably a rookie. Mothershead did a great job of showing him the light – by putting out his lights. Maybe he’ll decide a life of crime is not the way to go.

Thank you, AP. That kind of language does not belong to here. Maybe some of Pamela Geller’s websites, but not here Salahuddin on December 27, 2011.

Yep. She hates Catholics too using the irrational position that Pope Pius XII could have stopped the holocaust, but did nothing. (sigh)~(Ä)~ Karl Magnus on December 28, 2011 at 7:19 AM

AllahP, I respectfully ask you to monitor this buffoon’s posts, he clearly doesn’t deserve to be here. In pretending to get after another poster, he was in reality taking a potshot at you, the Boss Emeritus, and the good commenters among the faithful on this forum. Do you take accusations of bigotry any better than you do rank vulgarity? I think not.

Regarding others’ suggestions that the clerk unnecessarily risked himself “to save a few dollars”, I suggest that you listen carefully to his words in the video. He did a brief but expert analysis of the situation, he was expecting the robbery attempt the moment the perp entered the store (profiling works), and planned his actions better than the perp. He took control of the situation in a cool-headed manner and minimized the risk to himself. As others have stated, there is no guarantee that handing over the demanded money would result in his own safety. If an opportunity for a better result exposes itself, take it. The clerk had the awareness and the capability. Add the elements of audacity and surprise, and you have a formula for success.

Newsflash for Dumb and Dumber: you’re on a blog started and maintained by hard-rightwing conservatives, and populated by not a few Neocons. Islamophobia is an everyday occurrence. If you can’t handle it, LEAVE, because I assure you there won’t be any ‘clean up’. Especially not for a couple of newbies like you!

Meanwhile the commie wing is soo not islamophobic that they welcome members if Hamas, PLO, and numerous other banes to society

I’m still looking for the bright spots

IF you’re going to do it, Mr. Motherhead did it right: the would-be robber had a bag in one hand, and he got him to reach for the money with the other. The robber’s hands were occupied, and his eyes were on the loot bag. Very good strategy, so I applaud him not just for being strong, but being SMART, too.

No, smart people like me know that this guy isn’t going to turn a potential armed robbery bid into a life sentence for first-degree murder by shooting the hapless clerk after getting the money.

I call B.S. on this. How do you know? Are you psychic? You dont know crap. Shut your piehole. As Ceasar once said, Better to die on your feet, than live on your knees. This guy did the right thing. Smoke that turkey, then make him clean up his own poopoo pants mess, turn his azz to face due south, and feed him some pork rinds.

Well said sir!

People like this are just total morons. You’re going to risk getting shot in order to protect the (insured) property of the employer that’s paying you $9 an hour to stand there? Really?

theodore on December 27, 2011 at 4:32 PM

You make it sound like the robber is a rational person who won’t hurt you if you only do what he says. I’m not sure this is reality. When someone tells you he will shoot you if you don’t hand over your own or even someone else’s money your life is in total danger. This clerk’s life was in danger from the time this guy walked in the door and possibly even would be more so if he had donw what he was told. After all, he wouldn’t have be the first clerk to hand over the money as asked, got on his knees and faced the wall as asked and then was shot NAZI style for his trouble. This clerk was in danger and had every right to act to protect himself. He acted to protect his life not the damn money and as a result, he went home that night. That hardly makes him a “moron”.
