Kermit Gosnell’s wife pleads guilty to assisting at his abortion shop of horrors

posted at 4:30 pm on December 13, 2011 by Tina Korbe

The story of Kermit Gosnell is, perhaps, one that even well-meaning people would prefer to block out of their minds. After all, as a Philadelphia grand jury report put it, to talk of Gosnell is to talk of “a doctor who killed babies and endangered women.” Recall this most sickening habit of his: Gosnell would purposely induce the premature births of babies and then “snip” the spines of those premature — but living, breathing, viable — little persons to, as he put it, “ensure fetal demise.” In four decades, Gosnell killed hundreds and hundreds of babies in this way, collecting their severed feet in jars as evidence of his evil.

Gosnell was chiefly responsible for the wickedness perpetrated in his abortion shop of horrors, but he didn’t operate alone. As Michelle Malkin put it, Gosnell was helped in his hideous enterprise by “a crew of unlicensed, untrained butchers masquerading as noble providers of women’s ‘choice.’”

Among them: his wife, Pearl Gosnell, who has now pleaded guilty to assisting at the corrupt abortion clinic — a clinic that the grand jury described as “a filthy fraud in which [Gosnell] overdosed his patients with dangerous drugs, spread venereal disease among them with infected instruments, perforated their wombs and bowels – and, on at least two occasions, caused their deaths.”

According to LifeNews.com, Pearl was charged with participating in an illegal late-term abortion, conspiracy and being part of a corrupt organization. Previously, she had considered “a plea deal similar to the one several of Gosnell’s former abortion center employees have made [in which] they have pleaded guilty to receive a lesser sentence in exchange for testifying against Gosnell.” But it appears Pearl — who by law cannot be made to speak out against her husband — has opted simply to plead guilty and remain silent during his trial. That means, I’m assuming, she’ll likely accept a longer sentence than she would if she’d testify.

Silence was a necessary condition for Gosnell’s death mill to flourish. As has been well documented, state governmental failure was and is an ominous element of the Gosnell story. Gosnell’s practice was about criminal activity, yes, but, whatever folks might say to the contrary, it was also about abortion. Put simply: Gosnell was more easily able to perpetrate his crimes because of an abortion-accepting “culture of death” that has inured officials to the need to vigilantly protect life.

Kermit Gosnell is a perfect example of why it’s stupid and counter-productive to make late-term abortion (or any term abortion, really) illegal. when you drive something underground and into the domain of people who are willing to operate outside of the law, there are no codified professional standards of conduct that they must meet in order to maintain their livelihood, because hey, they’re already criminals. If you want to know who is truly responsible for the pain and death inflicted by Gosnell, look at the legislators who made it impossible for qualified and responsible doctors to legally provide the services he offered.

Pro-life people are horrified not only by the deaths of babies at the hands of butchers such as Gosnell, but also by the injuries and deaths that are the fate of mothers such as Nepali refugee Karnamaya Mongar.

The Report of the Grand Jury about her death in Gosnell’s “house of horrors” says that “she received repeated, unmonitored, unrecorded intravenous injections of Demerol, a sedative seldom used in recent years because of its dangers. Gosnell liked it because it was cheap.

“After several hours, Mrs. Mongar simply stopped breathing…Gosnell was called in and briefly attempted to give CPR. He couldn’t use the defibrilator (it was broken); nor did he administer emergency medications that might have restarted her heart…

“Paramedics were able to generate a weak pulse. But, because of the cluttered hallways and the padlocked emergency door, it took them over 20 minutes just to find a way to get her out of the building…

“Gosnell and his staff lied about how much anesthesia they had given, and who had given it. By that point, there was no way to restore any neurological activity. Life support was removed the next day. Karnamaya Mongar was pronounced dead.”

The Report of the Grand Jury also noted that “bags and bottles holding aborted babies were scattered around [Gosnell's abortion mill], shelves displayed many jars containing the severed feet of babies, and equipment was filthy.”

So they’ll be charged with “participating in (or performing) an illegal late-term abortion.” I wonder what makes it illegal, the “fetus” being simply a “pile of cells” and all. These two will never serve a day in prison — at least not for the crime of “abortion” — because the “it isn’t a baby” narrative must be preserved at all costs. They’ll get them for having dirty instruments or Medicaid fraud, but they’ll never be convicted of “illegal abortion.” That shoots way too big a hole in the pro-abortion narrative.

This is where you get to when you begin the journey down the path of parsing human life into segments of declining value. When you begin to rationalize some lives into being less valuable than others, whether it be by race or by life-stage.
What the Nazi regime did to Jews, Gypsies, Communists, homosexuals, Slavs and others, Kermit Gosnell did to babies through the very same intellectual process. You would think that, being a reasonably bright species, somehow we would learn that lesson but we never do. For some God forsaken reason we seem to have to go down that road again and again and again, always ending up in the same place, and always wondering how we got there.

FLconservative on December 13, 2011 at 5:21 PM

For a long time, I’ve recognized the fundamental evil of abortion.

But when my first child was born recently … it became something worse. Something … personal.

I cannot – CANNOT – fathom how anyone can accept abortion, of any kind. I cannot. Not after seeing the object of every bit of my heart’s love born. Not after seeing her as a tiny 5 week embryo. Not after seeing her heartbeat for the first time, not after holding her for the first time.

I just … can’t. I can’t imagine how anyone can look at the thing that is the single greatest thing in all the universe, the thing that is our collective only hope for the future … and label it as meaningless and worthless.

I don’t understand. It makes me so sad, and so angry.

I’m leaving work now. To go pick up my daughter. My perfect, precious little girl. I get to spend the evening alone with her while her mom works late, and I’ll bathe her, and we’ll play for a couple hours … and it will be fine. So very perfect.

There is nothing better. All parents will understand, and I never really did until she came along. The love I have for this kid isn’t even comparable to anything else I’ve experienced in my life.

To end such life is … there is nothing worse. Except perhaps that we do it so casually.

This monster is just the natural end result of that casual disregard of what should be most sacred.

Totally off topic, but have I mentioned how damn great my kid is?

On-demand abortion will ALWAYS lead to abuse. How many decent doctors do you think are going to spend their days killing babies?

Besides that it is a completely unnatural procedure, it is invasive and dangerous.

In addition, it is the ADVOCATES of abortion who are unwilling to hold providers to any sort of health standards and resist every effort to enforce health and safety codes.

I’m just waiting to see this dramatized on Law & Order or CSI, I’m quite sure like some posters here, they’ll blame the pro-lifers.

Liberalism is moral absolutism.

Even the most psychotic liberal will admit that Killing a child at some point – say, an hour old – is the most heinous crime imaginible. But no liberal will ever concede that there is any middle ground; that killing a kid a few minutes earlier is still bad, but a tiny bit less horrifically evil than the premeditated murder of a baby a few minutes – or even seconds – later.

They do this by defining away the problem. At some completely arbitrary point, it magically stops being a child and is instantly transformed into a “fetus.”

Did you ever see Silence of the Lambs, where the murderer keeps saying: “IT puts on the lotion… IT does what IT’s told,” etc. That’s not just artistic license. Serial killers actually do that, because not even the most twisted soul can possibly justify the murder of an innocent solely for their own pleasure. So they must depersonalize their victimes – mentally transforming them from people into things.

And once that line has been crossed, literally anything is justifiable.

If you want to know who is truly responsible for the pain and death inflicted by Gosnell, look at the legislators who made it impossible for qualified and responsible doctors to legally provide the services he offered.

theodore on December 13, 2011 at 4:43 PM

The logic your put on display here is staggeringly stupid:

People aren’t responsible for their crimes. Only the people who made them illegal are.

Point taken; and no problem. I’m real old school and that’s the way I learned to say it decades ago. Some habits are real hard to break! But I will endeavor in the future to remember this.

Thanks!

spiritof61 on December 13, 2011 at 6:29 PM

You’re going to have to expand on this. What would “making people responsible for their own actions” entail, exactly, and why wouldn’t a woman spending her own money to terminate an unwanted pregnancy rather than inevitably relying on government hand-outs (tax credits, food stamps, subsidized health care programs, whatever) to raise her children count as being responsible for her own actions? Wouldn’t that actually be the most responsible thing to do, under those circumstances?

theodore on December 13, 2011 at 5:27 PM

You’re exactly right. Hell, she should also be allowed to kill her already living children if she has suddenly fallen into circumstances where she can no longer afford them. After all, they’ll just end up being burdens to the taxpayer.

We can have well-trained professionals like Kermit cleanly and efficiently slaughter the lil bastards. A beautiful extension of a woman’s right to choose.

Good Solid B-Plus on December 13, 2011 at 6:33 PM

The number of abortionists killing women is now officially higher than the number of “pro-lifers” killing abortionists.

Where are the movies? Where are the MSM stereotypes? Where is the Feminist Movement that cares about nothing more than a woman’s health & human rights?

The number of women killed by abortions is higher than the number of women killed by breast implants. Oprah? Where are you?

That logic only works for those people who esteem a developing person in the womb as ‘not really a person.’

Would any of you like to argue what constitutes a ‘person?’

This has got to be the most disgusting thing I have ever read on this site. That evil sob should have his feet cut off and put in a jar to look at while they break his spine. When they are done with him they can have his nasty excuse for a woman.

angrymike on December 13, 2011 at 6:57 PM

“to ensure fetal demise”
My, would a clean, scientific, medical term
The very summit of the art of obfuscation.
Translated in English, it is “make sure the baby is dead”

Give these ghouls fair trial and then execute them in the same manner as the executed all those innocent children – ram a pair of surgical scissors in their heads, use a suction hose to suck out the brains, then, “to ensure fetal demise,” crush their skulls. Then throw the remains in the dumpster in the alley.

Find it hard some days to realize that I inhabit this planet with such an evil sub-species. But the day of the wrath of God is coming.

Horace on December 13, 2011 at 7:04 PM

And the doctor is getting his just desserts for performing these illegal acts. Trying to connect these anomalous monsters with regular women’s health providers is laughable at best.

mythicknight on December 13, 2011 at 5:18 PM

Given the topic, I’m going to assume that your thick-headed post referencing “regularl women’s health providers” means clinics that provide early and late term abortions but don’t keep the feet of the babies that they kill but instead make sure they are properly ground up and disposed of. Oh? You thought that at these regular “women’s health providers” that they magically teleported the unborn baby back to pre-conception? Sorry to burst your bubble, the same murderous procedures (with the exception of snipping their spines, in Illinois, I think they are placed in janitorial closets until they die) are performed at those providers, just more clinically detached and with more effective disposal.

AZfederalist on December 13, 2011 at 7:10 PM

These murderers, and all who slaughter babies, are heros to democrats. One of the main tenets of the democrat party is the glorification and promotion of the violent murder of human babies – democrats created the entire abortion industry and democrats are responsible for the actions of Kermit Gosnell.

huskerthom on December 13, 2011 at 7:17 PM

They are not evil. They serve evil, by implementing evil practices. There are millions of liberal Democrats out there who sincerely believe that abortion is a right, and that killing fetuses is morally equivalent to clipping toenails. The premise of abortion is that a fetus is not a human being, and upon this rotten foundation the entire edifice of Planned Parenthood has risen.

These guys just went a little too far. They’ll cut their plea bargains, do their time, but the abortion express will go chugging along…aided by the federal government to the maximum possible extent until Obama leaves DC.
