Rick Perry on CNN: I’m second in the “Hot Gas” reader poll, you know

posted at 6:35 pm on December 7, 2011 by Allahpundit

Via Mediaite. My memory’s hazy but, as I recall, “Hot Gas” was one of the three finalists when we sat down to name the site in early 2006. Michelle had the trump card so we ended up where we ended up, but I’ve always wondered what might have been if my personal preference had won out. Imagine it: “Gassy Air.” Five years later, Perry would have turned that into “Gassy Gas” in today’s interview, which would have been a clip for the ages. Ah well.

This is, without question, the greatest HA near-name-check of all time. And yes, for the record, Perry is indeed in second place in the new Hot Gas reader survey.

I agree with you, Skandia Recluse

That wasn’t a gaffe. He knew exactly what he was doing. It was the look in his eye. He wasn’t going to say the name so he deliberately mangled it. It’s a deliberate zinger at HotAir which is just icing on the cake.

.

If he gives the media ammo, he’s golden.

My memory’s hazy but, as I recall, “Hot Gas” was one of the three finalists when we sat down to name the site in early 2006.

So you’re saying that “Hot Gas” was one choice, “Hot Air” another, and… you forget the third?

Not only did he get the name wrong – he just lied and said that hotair(gas) poll was an Iowa only poll… He doesn’t even know what the poll was about? Wow and this dude wants to be president? Obama and the media will continue to roast him – communication skills to fight back and to reject the false questions presented is key – Communication of knowledge in an effective manner.

Perry might just be on par with Herman Cain in the not-ready-for-prime-time category.

glidingone on December 7, 2011 at 9:10 PM

That means both CNN and Fox News are reporting on Perry and Hot Air, the blog and the poll Perry was referring to. Who knows if MSNBC will pick it up? That would be great if Rick Perry, got Hot Air publicity on all three cable news channels.

Guess Perry’s trying to fill the GOP’s niche for a Biden/Quayle-type gaffing idiot. When he spells out “potatoe” or tells a paraplegic in a wheelchair to stand up, I’ll know he has at least the VP slot.

Rick Perry is The Guy. Very engaging and he typifies the Texas Model which has created as many jobs as all the other states combined.

I think Rick Perry thinks he can really eliminate the misnamed Department of Education, Department of Energy and Department of Commerce, mostly because they give away taxpayer money to Big Business Corporatists.

He is only candidate, seriously, talking about Social Security and Entitlement reform.

I am from southeast Penna and he doesn’t talk like all the other politicians. He talks funny. I think that means he won’t fit in with Establishment DC.

As much as I like Perry, I couldn’t help but wonder why he couldn’t have availed himself of the Toastmasters public speaking group at some point. This is actually quite worrisome, as it seems to hinge on the judge’s understanding of what ‘journalism’ is, as if ‘journalists’ are immune from defamation/libel laws. It should never depend on the role of the writer; only whether the facts fit the legal definition of defamation.

AP, this might merit a separate thread.

bobguzzardi on December 7, 2011 at 10:06 PM

None believes he will try and close those departments, it is why he is not being attacked for it yet. As soon as he tries, he will be attacked and stop trying.
His serious talk about SS reform is nothing more than paying off the baby boom generation and those older than that who have pushed to ensure that the wealth transfer continues to themselves. What he plans to replace it with will be essentially slavery to those who are not in the last year of the baby boom generation. Right now Social Security is in perpetual red ink with 12.4% of everyone’s income going towards paying for it. The amount of red ink is going to continue to climb quickly as the largest generation continues to retire. When they talk about close to retiring, they are talking about that last birth year of the official baby boom generation. The social security trust fund is full of nothing but IOUs, which in order to actually pay out the government has to either have surpluses in the general funds (dream on), sell official bonds in the open market and increase our real debt to the world at large significantly, if there is anyone willing to continue buying our paper, or print more money or a combination of the three. The more likely scenario will be that the 12.4% tax will simply be increased to 15% or more.
So, what happens when you decide to give younger tax payers individual savings accounts? Well, every penny of the current 12.4% or even the higher 15% tax is already going out the door, and will not be able to fund any savings accounts, so that is going to require more money being taken by the government from your paycheck to fund your savings account. Does anyone think 25% is a bit much to be taking from people, off the very top? So, where is all that savings going to go? Well, it just so happens that the federal government is going to need someone to buy off those IOUs in the Social Security trust fund and pay for additional deficit spending until around what, 2054 when Ryan’s plan supposedly balances the budget.

You were thinking that Perry is not some insider government person? LOL!

Yeah, he is talking about it, but you know what. Those who are retired and about to retire know that without this coming change, their SS benefits are going to be gone before they are, they are willing to sacrifice the following generation one more time in the name of their own luxuries and decades long vacations. It just does not work any other way.

What is worse than a Ponzi Scheme? A government run forced participation Ponzi Scheme? What is worse than that? GMTA!

Apologies to HA, but this is only a blog, so what if Perry didn’t get the name right? It’s quite inconsequential. Things that are of consequence, like not falling for the global warming hoax and pushing Cap & Trade, wanting smaller government instead of an intrusive government that mandates health care, wanting to banish the Dept. of Education (unlike Newt who voted for its creation when he was in the House), not pushing ethanol and even explaining to IAs in person why he thinks it’s wrong, etc. Newt has done and supported ALL those things and MORE.

Watching Perry campaign has really begun to make me doubt the reputation of Texas voters.

We dumbasses down here, MC, look at results much more than polemics. I know, that last one’s a big word for some single-toothed, banjo playing backwoodser to know, but it is what it is.

Aw, don’t be too hard on him. He just resents us Texans because we’re so happy and prosperous- he never ceases trying to convince us we’re as miserable as he is. Prolly lives in some cold, nasty, jobless, union- ridden blue state surrounded by assclown liberals. It’s made him bitter. It’s sad, really. lol

Those of us who haven’t jumped on the latest bandwagon need to stick together. ;)

Amen! I’ve been on Perry’s bandwagon since June/July and I’m not budging. Especially not for some RINO who only pretends to be a Tea Party conservative.

Texans aren’t superficial they care more about substance – results. Perry is a successful 3rd term governor of the second largest state in the union and the 13th largest economy. The only state that has produced half the jobs in this country. Thanks to not getting the name of this blog right, it’s been reported on two cable news channels. That means he got Hot Air free publicity on at least one cable news channel that has high ratings.

If people base their voting on whether he got the name of blog right on the internet – it’s not Texans who have a problem with how they vote.
