Bad news from Saudi Arabia: Letting women drive will dry up the virgin market

posted at 7:25 pm on December 2, 2011 by Jazz Shaw

In case you were worried that the Arab Spring would spread into Saudi Arabia – one of the last remaining bastions of common sense – and result in their letting those pesky women drive cars, fear not! A new “scientific report” from a group of Muslim scholars has clearly identified that such a risky maneuver is fraught with danger.

Repealing a ban on women drivers in Saudi Arabia would result in ‘no more virgins’, the country’s religious council has warned…

The startling conclusions were drawn by Muslim scholars at the Majlis al-Ifta’ al-A’ala, Saudi Arabia’s highest religious council, working in conjunction with Kamal Subhi, a former professor at the King Fahd University.

The report warns that allowing women to drive would ‘provoke a surge in prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce’.

Within ten years of the ban being lifted, the report’s authors claim, there would be ‘no more virgins’ in the Islamic kingdom.

Well, we certainly can’t afford a massive sell-off in the virgin market. Not to mention the dangers of having gays running around wild, selling pornographic magazines to these female drivers when they pull up to a stop light. Divorced hookers! Dogs and cats living together!

None of this, of course, addresses the real issue which western readers doubtless spotted immediately. Once the accident rate goes through the roof, everyone’s auto insurance premiums will rise. This will take money out of the economy, depress productivity, and before you know it the King will be calling for a national mandate to own insurance.

It’s a slippery slope.

Which is worse: women drivers causing a deficit of virgins or women drivers causing homogaysexuals?

A Saudi quoted in the Headlines version of this story said he could tell some woman in a public shop was eyeing him and wanted him. That would be some funny stuff, if it wasn’t the basis for an oppressive and ultimately brutal repression of women.

I assume this also means the Beach Boys’ “Fun Fun Fun” is not on any of the oldies radio stations in Riyadh, either.

The exact same argument is applied when people talk of letting consenting adults do things like get married to who they love, or choose to ingest a given substance. Newt Gingrich espoused this way of thinking explicitly in the very last debate, saying that drug enforcement ought to be stepped up in an effort to save Americans from themselves. Well, this is that same thinking, just trying to save women from themselves.

ernesto on December 2, 2011 at 7:42 PM

What they’re really afraid of is once the Saudi Women can drive they will drive away & keep going.

Women lose their virginity IN a car, not TO a car.

Hoo boy, are you reaching.

Okay, let’s all play: this is the same argument that tells people how much money they should have or who they can hire or whether they can smoke or what foods they can eat…..

Neither the left or right has a monopoly on using the state to impose its morality on people. Both sides do it; just on different issues.

And no one is telling people who they can and cannot marry; the question is whether the state should recognize that marriage for legal purposes. If the state got out of issuing marriage licenses – something I favor – that doesn’t mean that people still can’t get married.

Gay people can marry anywhere they want. The question is whether the state should legally recognize it. I think they shouldn’t. But they shouldn’t legally recognize opposite sex marriages either.

SteveMG on December 2, 2011 at 7:51 PM

And when have liberals supported drug legalization?

Obama? Biden? Ted Kennedy? Reid? Schumer? Pelosi?

Anyone of them?

Anyone?

No, and I never said it was. The line of reasoning that is volunteered by both the Saudi’s and Mr. Gingrich as justification for their very different proposals is the same, however.

C’mon, women drivers aren’t quite so bad as to where they’d ALL kill themselves if they’re let behind the wheel.

malclave on December 2, 2011 at 7:55 PM

Isn’t this only a problem if the age to drive is lower than the age to marry? Even the most liberal jurisdictions do not allow 5 year olds to drive….

Its also the same line of reasoning that generally doesn’t allow people to own private nuclear devices. Just the jackbooted thugs trying to keep the man down.

Repealing a ban on women drivers in Saudi Arabia would result in ‘no more virgins’, the country’s religious council has warned. . . .
The report warns that allowing women to drive would ‘provoke a surge in prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce’.

So THAT’S what happened to us. I guess that settles it.

Revoke the motor vehicle licenses of all women in the United States. That’ll solve the majority of our immorality.

Oops, HOLD THE PHONE . . . . . what about transexuals?
Maybe we could send some transexuals over there on an official diplomatic mission, to put that question before the Saudi Religious Council.

Would you let a camel drive?

Under sharia law, women rate somewhere below a camel or other livestock. Start treating them like human beings, and you’re in violation of islamic law.

It’s the islam, not the driving.

You are right there… these people can only be bombed UP to the Stone Age. But all of this is not a surprise; even the ancient world’s so-called barbarians were not as barbaric as these people! It’s as I’ve said before these people have known only 3 things in the past several thousand years, and that is fighting, fornicating, and praying (about the other 2)!

Confederate on December 2, 2011 at 9:11 PM

Driving won’t make you lose your virginity. However parking might.

iceman1960 on December 2, 2011 at 9:40 PM

Heh! Crazy Saudi Muslims.

What’s funnier is that these are the Muslims that America kisses the a** of, act on their advice and cherish their Muslim assistants planted throughout your system. Go figure.

I think they’re just worried that when those young women drive to school, it will be harder to throw acid at them in cars than when the women are forced to walk.

DrAllecon on December 3, 2011 at 12:13 AM

allowing women to drive would ‘provoke a surge in prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce’.

Saudi women drive in Bahrain all the time, where they do get licenses to drive. The twisted logic that Saudi Arabia in particular, and the region as whole in general, uses is that, as long as it is on the island of Bahrain, Allah does not see it. The “Kingdom” doesn’t seem too bothered with their women getting licenses in another country.

Sorry, but as it exists today, Islam is a diseased ideology.

Women drove to the polls to vote in the 2008 presidential election here in the U.S. You’ve all seen the gender vote breakdown. For that reason alone, I’m cutting the Saudis some slack here.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Muslim scholars are sex-obsessed barbarian freaks.

RebeccaH on December 3, 2011 at 12:00 PM

Hey, you Saudi scholars – that’s called a feature, not a bug.

Working over there, we would see the Saudi teenage boys driving up and down King Khalid street, doing the typical teenager cruising so well known all over the world. But, of course, there were no women involved, or present; except for sisters or maybe cousins, they hadn’t seen a woman for years; they did not have women in their schools or classes; no women on the TV unless they could tune in something from Qatar or Bahrain. We wondered what, while they were cruising, did they actually talk about?

ss396 on December 3, 2011 at 2:04 PM
