Quotes of the day

“Herman Cain has been making phone calls to individual supporters to ask for their advice on how to proceed in the presidential race.

“Those calls come in addition to the conference call his campaign held Tuesday morning, on which Cain told a large group of listeners that he is ‘reassessing’ his plans for the 2012 campaign.”

***

“As you probably heard yesterday, a troubled Atlanta business woman used national media outlets to promulgate a fabricated, unsubstantiated story about a 13 year affair with me. I am writing you today to assure you that this woman’s story is completely false…

“[N]ow I am asking for your friendship. I am also asking for your prayers and support. This is a trying time for my family, my campaign, and for me. It is also a trying time for our country as we are all distracted from the truly important issues facing our nation.

“This evening I have an important speaking engagement at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan, where I will be outlining my foreign policy and national security plan. While recent events have taken a toll on me, the people in the audience this evening will not know it. I will deliver my message with vigor and enthusiasm.

“Let me assure you, I am not deterred. America’s future is too important. We will continue on this journey to make America great once again.”

***

“A growing number of prominent conservatives are abandoning Herman Cain, saying a Georgia woman’s claim that she had a 13-year affair with the Republican candidate has effectively doomed his presidential bid

“‘The allegation is one that could upend his presidential campaign,’ Huckabee said in a Fox News interview. ‘Unlike the harassment charges, which he denied, he said this was a private answer. In essence, he may have given an answer that will be very difficult for him to work himself out of.’

“Conservative radio host Laura Ingraham – who initially called the disclosure that Cain had been accused of harassment an attempt to ‘put this man in … the back of the bus’ – said on Fox Tuesday that the 2012 race had ‘passed him by.’

“‘The campaign seems to have passed Herman Cain by, right? He’s slipped precipitously in pretty much every poll,’ Ingraham said, adding that Cain ‘never really set up the kind of organization’ needed to win the Republican presidential nomination.”

***

“The latest twist in the Herman Cain campaign saga is an abrupt cancellation of a private New York City dinner with some high-profile members of the media, according to a report by NY1.

“The network reported that the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO now running for the Republican nomination for President was supposed to meet with guests, including Barbara Walters, Matt Lauer, Bill O’Reilly, Lesley Stahl, Sen. Chuck Schumer and Greta Van Susteren at the Park Avenue apartment of New York Post columnist Cindy Adams this Sunday…

“Political analyst Hank Sheinkopf said it doesn’t even matter if the allegations are true or false because they have become a distraction that Cain cannot overcome.

“‘It makes it impossible for him to continue because the only thing he can answer is the allegations. He can’t talk about national policy. He can’t talk about his plans, the only thing he can talk about is sex,’ Sheinkopf told CBS 2′s Marcia Kramer.”

***

“Newt Gingrich stands to benefit if Herman Cain were to withdraw or lose support in the Republican presidential race, according to a Public Policy Poll released on Tuesday.

“Gingrich has a much better favorability rating with Cain supporters than does Mitt Romney. Seventy-three percent of Cain supporters view Gingrich favorably, while only 33 percent have a favorable view of Romney.

“Gingrich is also the consensus second choice among Cain voters, with 37 percent saying Gingrich would be their back-up to Cain, compared to 14 percent for Michele Bachmann, 13 percent for Romney, and 12 percent for Rick Perry.”

***

“Mr. Cain: you do NOT run for President in these times unless you are serious about it. It’s flat-out apparent now that you aren’t, weren’t, and never will be. A serious candidate would have released all the dirt on himself before any of it dripped-dripped-dripped out.

“But hey, you never thought that your con to sell your books would actually spark, did you? You never thought that good, decent, hard-working American people would actually believe what you said. Now here you are, trapped like a lying fly in amber, hoping to get the big brass ring without any other dirt coming out on you.

“All you are doing is playing your friends, your supporters, and some of my very good friends for your own fame and glory. And drinking parties. Yes – you drink like a fish, you flirt all over the place, and everyone who’s attended CPAC knows it. Nothing wrong with partying. Unless you lie about it. And try to deceive the public about it. If you want to be the American-Tea-Party Berlusconi, then be up front about it, don’t be a damned coward.

“You should be ashamed of yourself.”

***

“Lori Klein, an Arizona state Senator and Cain’s Arizona state chairman, told CBS News she stands by Cain.

“She says she has known him for 12 years and he’s ‘never been anything but a gentlemen – and I am not an unattractive woman.’

“Klein suggested that if Cain is innocent he should sue White for libel and went on to attack the media for digging up the allegations. She also said that in politics, ‘we want a virgin to do a hooker’s job.’”

“He’s unelectable.”

Exactly, JennyMae.

Notice how asteronii couldn’t answer the Scripture challenge I laid at its feet just a few minutes ago, pointing out how its hatred of others was patently against Jesus’s own commands and dictates.

Asteronii is nothing but a modern-day Pharisee, passing judgment upon everyone else while being little more than a whited sepulchre itself.

northdallasthirty on November 29, 2011 at 10:15 PM

asteronii likes to beat up gay people in bars.

John the Libertarian on November 30, 2011 at 12:08 AM

Yup.

That is exactly the precedent you have set in your racist insanity to get rid of the mean black man you don’t like.

Had you been intelligent enough to actually demand proof of the parade of proven slanderers attacking Cain, this wouldn’t have been a problem. As happened with the lying Gloria Allred, these people cannot stand the light of day and slither back under their rock when asked to actually have their own evidence vetted.

Short-sighted, ignorant fool. You have been dumb enough to state that any accusation automatically proves that someone else has bad character rather than acknowledge your irrational hatred of Cain.

northdallasthirty on November 30, 2011 at 12:00 AM

Do you even have an argument in there anywhere, or is it all personal attacks?

astonerii on November 30, 2011 at 12:09 AM

Oh, and as I head to bed, I invite astonerii to investigate the logical fallacy the red herring, because that’s exactly what his demand for defense of Cain’s Conservative creds is.

JannyMae on November 30, 2011 at 12:12 AM

Do you even have an argument in there anywhere, or is it all personal attacks?

astonerii on November 30, 2011 at 12:09 AM

Oh, the hilarity. You scream and bleat and slander Cain constantly, but then you get all upset and whiny when someone actually calls out your own words and how they prove you are a bigot.

Church of the KKK, asteronii? Is that where they teach you that black people are always lying and that white women of the type of “character” that you parade forward are paragons of virtue?

I think that’s what is interesting about this. The Obama Party and the people who want Cain gone seem to be very good at playing on the racist portion of the population like asteronii.

northdallasthirty on November 30, 2011 at 12:13 AM

Uh… can I ask just what in the hell he was doing arranging to meet with Chuck F**king Schumer in the middle of GOP primary?

Best wishes to Herman Cain while undergoing this Alinsky attack.

This is what; the fifth woman to “accuse” him? Cell phone calls prove only that the phone works.

In any case, Herman Cain is more faithful than Bill Clinton.

Good night, folks.

JannyMae on November 30, 2011 at 12:16 AM

Or JFK or LBJ.

Caststeel on November 30, 2011 at 12:16 AM

This is hilarious to see someone who insisted that he was qualified to make judgments about Cain’s character, telling someone else they can’t use available information to judge his accuser’s credibility. You’ve spent all this time shooting messenger Cain, but somebody else questions his accuser and you are suddenly worried about logical fallacies?

You have obviously never set foot in a courtroom, where such judgments of witnesses’ credibility take place every day.

JannyMae on November 30, 2011 at 12:01 AM

Yes, I do not understand our laws. That is a good argument. A jury cannot give a not guilty verdict and at the same time think the person accused is a complete slime ball that surely deserves to be punished, but that the evidence was not enough to reach the level of beyond a reasonable doubt. A jury also could not conceivably ever know for a fact that a person did something illegal, but under the circumstances of the situation are not willing to punish him and give a verdict of not guilty. Those things are completely 100% never possible. Oh, wait, they are. Darn it. There goes all your hard work attacking me. What kind of cupid stunt are you?

By the way, the trial is, Republican Primary for the nomination for the President of the United States of America. So, where should I look to make a decision about voting? Should I pick your ideals over mine, or some guy who keeps calling me a racist? Or some guy whose level of vitriol is quite high despite his declared like for Cain but dislike and demoralized view of our choices? I think I will use my own mind thanks very much.

By the way, hold people to their own standards. It is not my standard, it is yours and theirs. Hold up to it, on all sides you hypocrites.

astonerii on November 30, 2011 at 12:19 AM

So we Cain supporters are “shooting the messenger,” but Astonerii is taking the high road because he’s shooting the other messenger. I see how this works. ABC = Anyone but Cain.

JannyMae on November 30, 2011 at 12:12 AM

No, it is not. It is the reason given why we need to support Cain. He is the most, and you all mean THE MOST conservative candidate there is. Well, all I ask is for you to convince me it is so. Not too hard for the Cain supporters I would imagine. They have had months and months to create copy paste text files to drop. Unless of course, there really is no there there, other than the propaganda like they used to get Obama into office.

All of which, of course, is an attempt to divert attention away from the screaming racist’s response when asked to provide evidence of his allegations against Cain.

I do not have to prove anything.

astonerii on November 29, 2011 at 10:30 PM

Typical game of the slandering Obama left. It shows the kind of character asteronii and his racist “church” have.

northdallasthirty on November 30, 2011 at 12:26 AM

I do not have to prove anything.

astonerii on November 29, 2011 at 10:30 PM

You are accusing Cain of malfeasance. I am defending him from what I believe to be scurrilous charges. Burden of proof is on you, buddy.

gryphon202 on November 30, 2011 at 12:29 AM

So we Cain supporters are “shooting the messenger,” but Astonerii is taking the high road because he’s shooting the other messenger. I see how this works. ABC = Anyone but Cain.

gryphon202 on November 30, 2011 at 12:21 AM

Cain is not the messenger. Cain is the Presidential candidate asking us to vote for him. He must convince, he must lead, he must give the reasons to do so. But I am a person able to freely associate, and with that freedom I am allowed to be discerning in my associations. Cain himself has now admitted to something that is beyond my threshold for a married man to admit to and be considered of above average, let alone Presidential Leadership character. He fumbling around for a denial had already led me to believe he was not truly honest, and it is a judgement call I can make, as president a voter. He asks us to take him on his word that he has the judgement to run the country, and yet will offer nothing by which to make that judgement. The few instances I have seen him give judgements it has not been positive for him. He can barter away Gitmo for one soldier. Oh, wait, he did not understand the question. Well, I would have to evaluate everything first, and since I do not have all the evidence needed I cannot tell you what I would do.

Cain lies. He makes jokes as he calls it. He then blames others for his failed responses, such as not hearing the question, or the question was to wide open. Does he ever take responsibility for anything? I have never seen it. I know who this sounds like!

astonerii on November 30, 2011 at 12:30 AM

A jury cannot give a not guilty verdict and at the same time think the person accused is a complete slime ball that surely deserves to be punished, but that the evidence was not enough to reach the level of beyond a reasonable doubt.

astonerii on November 30, 2011 at 12:19 AM

And for very good reason. Racists like yourself would use any excuse to find a black person guilty of sexual assault and rape in the bad old days.

Now you cloak your racism and hate in the guise of “morals” – and set up the hilarious hypocrisy of your attempting to attack a black man’s “character” using a parade of proven liars and libel artists.

northdallasthirty on November 30, 2011 at 12:31 AM

But I am a person able to freely associate, and with that freedom I am allowed to be discerning in my associations.

astonerii on November 30, 2011 at 12:30 AM

But of course you’re not, because you’re very obviously taking anything a white woman says at face value while insisting that anything a black man says is automatically a lie.

That’s not being “discerning”. It’s being a racist.

northdallasthirty on November 30, 2011 at 12:33 AM

So if this is all just a concerted smear attack on Cain, why are they doing it now? He’s already in single digits in the polls. Also, if he’s innocent, why is he “reassessing” his campaign, why not loudly proclaim his innocence? Done properly, it might just re-invigorate his whole campaign!

cynccook on November 30, 2011 at 12:34 AM

gryphon202 on November 30, 2011 at 12:29 AM

No, it is not. There is no burden of proof. Hint with those words. It is a judgement call and opinion. There was no crime committed as far as I know, unless he paid her with campaign funds. I seriously doubt he would do that. My opinion is just that, and calling me a rapist like your friend is not going to make me change my mind or go hide behind a rock. I give it for the reason that the President is the leader of the nation, and that includes the moral compass that we follow. Reagan changed not just government, but he changed the whole fabric of the nation in his 8 years.

astonerii on November 30, 2011 at 12:37 AM

You make a good point..I just think that the air lines have to do good for the economy to recover..:)

Dire Straits on November 30, 2011 at 12:23 AM

I don’t disagree with that, partially. Airlines also need to offer a service that people want to use to do well. What I’ve seen lately from many of them is an attitude of “we don’t care” sprinkled with a dash of “yeah, we are gonna charge you for that too and if we could figure out how to charge you for the pressurized air, we’d add that to the ticket price”. They seem to have forgotten the fact that there are other ways to travel and even if those other ways take longer, if the airlines make the trip unpleasant, people will take other modes of transportation. I had a colleague a few months ago have the airline (American) pretty much screw up his whole itinerary on the way back from a business trip. When he made the comment, “This service is awful”, instead of an apology, the person behind the ticket counter made the comment, “all of the airlines have the same issues, that’s just the way it is”.

It’s bad enough having to endure the danger of gate rape to just get to the airplane. Knowing you are going to be packed into a tight space with 150 to 200 of your closest friends, with, at best a glass of coke or a cup of tea for the next 3 to 4 hours while you have the elbows of both your seatmates dug into your ribs while your legs are crammed against the seat in front of you and you can’t even open your magazine on the tray table because the guy in front of you reclined his seat back fully into your face is not the way to get people to want to fly on your airline. I’ll fly when I absolutely, positively have to for my job. I don’t like it, it is unpleasant, the planes are always full, and the service is usually poor. I will avoid trips and teleconference and do other things to not have to travel. However, sometimes you just have to meet face to face. If airlines made the trip more pleasant, offering maybe a few more inches of room (at the expense of a few seats) or having more flights so that we weren’t crammed like sardines in a tin can, it is very likely I and many others would fly more, thus increasing their revenue. Instead, they cut back on flights, pack the cabins as tightly as possible, and then wonder why their passenger load continues to fall.

If an airline would come out and say, “Hey, we know that getting to our airplane is a horrible experience. But once you get to our gate and on board, the unpleasant memories of TSA will fade away as we treat you right” I’m guessing that airline would do well.

/but I don’t have an opinion on this topic

What I want to know is if Herman Cain drinks so much (one of the links said he drank like a fish) why did he never hit on Nancy Plosi or Barney Frank?

Apparently I missed the post where you were elected supreme judge of all thing political and were officially absolved of all burdens of proof and response to inconvenient facts.

Since you accept unsupported allegations as fact if they are only shouted loud enough, your home must be covered with dozens of alternate layers of vinyl and aluminum siding.

There is no such post. Oh, that was just you trying to make some point that really does not exist.

I must have missed the post where you were elected supreme attack astonerii dog. You see, you step away for just one second and you just do not know what is going to happen, do you landlines?

Considering the fact that you think that you can slur me with statements such as those, you must live in a glass house and a floor covered in already thrown rocks?

Now, since you are willing to take a mans own confession, a woman with documentary evidence, her statement and call that unsupported allegations, you must be one of O.J. Simpsons jurors? It is so nice to meet you. I really must say, I was really pulling for a guilty verdict, but, you know, I just was not there on that jury and had all the evidence you did, so I am absolutely sure that if you say he is not guilty he must not be guilty.

So, you go out there and find the statement where I said the allegations were fact, and we can clear this whole thing up. It should be easy to do. Just go find the post you were just looking at apparently, and copy and paste it, along with the date stamp so I can find it easier. You can do that, right? I mean, you would not be accusing me of doing something that I did not do would you on flimsy unsubstantiated evidence. I just know that must be beyond you. So, you go find that post, where I took unsubstantiated allegations and said they were facts or something remotely like that and this can all just be put behind us.

I’m starting to doubt people’s judgement here.

You jump from Gingrich to Bachmann, to Perry, to Cain, to Gingrich again.

I am beginning to wonder if some of you people know what you are doing.

You don’t want Romney, who doesn’t screw up this in the same fashion of the others and whos “bad” positions are similar or better than Gingrich’s “bad” positions, like on AGW etc. (You just haven’t bothered to Google or remember what Gingrich has done)

So who’s next? Ron Paul?

it gets more interesting everyday….

cmsinaz on November 30, 2011 at 6:00 AM

Newt Gingrich empathized with opponent Herman Cain, telling CBS News’ Nancy Cordes in South Carolina Tuesday allegations of sexual harassment and an extra-marital affair do not disqualify him as a candidate. (CBS News)

Spoken by someone who would know…and YET many here on this site want to BACK Gingrich.

Where is his and YOUR judgment? I can understand making a mistake and having an affair BUT over and over like Gingrich and on his third marriage? HE is the guy that is MOST qualified for POTUS?

Here we have Romney who has a stellar record in economics proven over 25-30 years of saving companies, Olympics, State of MA, and some are doing all they can to avoid him?

Truly bizarre!!

g2825m on November 30, 2011 at 6:21 AM

When I say that Cain should FIGHT it if it’s not true, I mean he should REALLY fight not like the wussy fight that McCain did in 2008.

WHO Is that Fearless Consistent Conservative in 2012?

When we find one that has character lets be like a bulldog and hold on tight. Even though Trump and Paul and maybe Bloomberg run we MUST DEFEAT OBAMA with someone that will repeal ObamaCare and rebuild America. Since the great Unraveling of the United States has begun we need an imperfect person to help put it back together.

DEFEAT the DOTUS…….no matter what happens!

PappyD61 on November 30, 2011 at 7:22 AM

Obama girlfriend?

Brian Williams (and the whole Mainstream Media) and Vera Baker?

………and his real “girlfriend”……POWER.

PappyD61 on November 30, 2011 at 7:41 AM

So instead of the incessant “Perry is done/Perry is toast” meme that we kept hearing for the umpteenth time, we now find Cain is the one that is truly done/toast.

You would think that the media will lay off Perry and allow voters to take a second look at him, right? Nope! The fix is in.

The media/Dems/GOP Establishment fear Perry like the plague. He has promised to bring a wrecking ball to the party in DC and make the federal Govt. inconsequential in our lives. If anyone can do it, it is Rick Perry.

Therefore the marching orders have been given. If conservatives don’t want Romney, the GOP Establishment is determined to pick the alternative as well.

So they keep feeding us new flavors, who have no chance in hell of stopping Romney – either because of lack of organization (Cain, Gingrich) or lack or supposed lack of morals (Cain, Gingrich).

Wake up, conservatives.

TheRightMan on November 30, 2011 at 7:45 AM

If Cain had not been hitting on all the chicks in the room and too drunk to see if someone was gay or not, he probably would have been beating up on the gays, in between steeling old ladies drinks and hors d’oeuvres.

InkyBinkyBarleyBoo on November 30, 2011 at 1:09 AM

AHA! So that’s why he hates Rick Perry! (Perry is ghey, doncha know…probably a ghey bigot…) lol

Political analyst Hank Sheinkopf said it doesn’t even matter if the allegations are true or false because they have become a distraction that Cain cannot overcome.

You keep saying the word “racist” with no real evidence to back it up. Astonerii may be as close to insufferable as anyone on HA, but to assume his opposition to Cain is based on race is not supported by anything he has said, that I can see. You appear to be making enormous assumptions, then using the leftist tactic of name-calling to silence astonerii. Unless you can come up with solid evidence that astonerii’s views are race-based, not only are you out of line, but you risk fitting Jung’s observation, “Projections change the world into the replica of one’s unknown face.”

DrMagnolias on November 30, 2011 at 8:05 AM

I’d like to again raise a question no seems to have answered satisfactorily:

Why do so many people keep referring to Ginger White as a “businesswoman” if she’s unemployed and apparently desperately in need of money?

If she’s a businesswoman, why doesn’t she start a business? If nothing else, she could go sell a product at a flea market.

SagebrushPuppet on November 30, 2011 at 8:06 AM

g2825m on November 30, 2011 at 6:21 AM

Most of us DO NOT CARE about a candidate’s affairs. To me, they only prove the guy is “alpha” and I want to elect a guy who’s alpha.

Gingrich’s affairs are KNOWN – has he ever lied about them?

Yet Herman Cain is pretty much lying – or attempting to “half-lie” about his affair with this woman. Alpha’s are fine with me – Liars aren’t. And by the way – Clinton wasn’t impeached because he had an affair – he was impeached because he lied about it.

Hell – Clinton’s infidelity came out during the ’92 campaign in even more grandiose fashion than Cain’s has – and Clinton survived it because he went on prime time television with Hillary at his side to say … “Sure I’ve caused pain in my marriage”.

Why didn’t Cain do that? Probably because he thought he could run for President and keep his wife from learning of the affair.

Miscalculation huh?

Look – Cain might survive these charges IF he had any substance beyond “999″. He doesn’t. He relishes in his ignorance of foreign policy … he says that SMART advisors … THE BEST ADVISORS in the nation will catch him up to speed on the things he doesn’t know – and then he keeps Mark Block as his most trusted advisor. WTF dude?

Face – Cain Train is de-railed – over. He’s losing endorsements – he’s losing defenders. I doubt Rush will even say a good word for him today – but who knows?

You can keep clinging to the Cainlusional dream – but that’s all it is – a dream – a failed dream.

Cain is going no where.

HondaV65 on November 30, 2011 at 8:17 AM

WHO Is that Fearless Consistent Conservative in 2012?

PappyD61 on November 30, 2011 at 7:22 AM

That man’s name would be Ron Paul.

JohnGalt23 on November 30, 2011 at 8:38 AM

Guess Cain wasn’t as ready for the high tech lynching as he thought.

Kissmygrits on November 30, 2011 at 8:45 AM

Once again – first paragraph of the Atlanta Fox news story that ‘broke’ this – An Atlanta businesswoman accuses Cain. . .Last paragraph – Ms White is unemployed.

I find it truly dangerous that in America, a flawed story such as this can take down a candidate and the Party and people supposedly on this guy’s side – are willing accomplices.

Some of you harp on Cain’s inability to answer questions – look at Obama NOW – 3+ years into the job – he can’t answer questions or give speeches (without the teleprompter) without sounding stupid or saying something that rivals Biden’s gaffes.

The Democrats, the media and the stupid talking point people are choosing our candidate again – how did that work out with McCain? They are going after Cain because he could win, he’d take ‘racist’ out of the campaign and then after his time in office – he’d have shown Obama for his William ‘Freezer’ Jefferson/Kwame’Bribe Me’ Kilpatrick ‘gettin’ ours’ attitude that is the basis for corruption that is destroying our major cities and DC.

If he didn’t do it……then he should fight!!

PappyD61 on November 29, 2011 at 11:01 PM

I agree – but will add that anyone who is not a Democrat – should stand by him and fight too. No matter if he doesn’t even get to the nomination – just to protect our right to a free and valid election process.
