Iranian protesters storm British embassy. Update: Video added

Not much detail available yet, but we’ll update this one as warranted throughout the day. Long story short, following new sanctions being put in place on Iran, protesters have stormed the British embassy in Tehran, causing the usual mayhem. (Though at this point, reports indicate there were only about twenty of them.)

Iranian protesters entered the British Embassy compound in Tehran on Tuesday, smashing windows and burning the British flag, during a rally against new sanctions London imposed on the Islamic state, live Iranian television images showed.

Protesters could be seen on state Press TV throwing stones, sheets of paper and one waved a framed picture of Queen Elizabeth, apparently found inside the compound.

Another report indicates that there were “several hundred” other protesters outside who didn’t enter the compound. Rock throwing resulted in broken windows and chants of, “Death to Britain” could be heard. Live reports as of this posting claim that as many as 50 embassy workers are still inside. Even more disturbing is this one visual:

The intrusion occurred as ranks of Iranian police in riot gear stood by, doing nothing.

Not good. At least initially, it will be up to the Iranians to bring the situation under control and assure the safety of the workers inside the compound. More updates to come as they become available.

UPDATE: Some more from CNN, though details remain sketchy. They do provide the following video, though.

Sure, just as there were Marine guards at our embassy in Tehran in 1979. But a half dozen lightly armed guards can’t stop hundreds of protesters swarming through the gates.

o You don’t have to stop them all – as soon as one starts to climb the wall or force their way in, you start firing. You take out enough UNARMED protesters flooding into your compound, and you make the ones behind them re-think the situation. And yes, Marines were taken hostage in Iran…BECAUSE OF THE ORDERS IN WASHINGTON/BY CARTER. Uh, NO! I order my Marines to protect themselves and embassy employees on US SOIL with DEADLY FORCE. Carter, a Liberal Democrat, was an embarrassment as a President and completely handled that situation wrong from start to finish. Because of his initial actions, our people were taken hostage and for how long?! Michelle Bachman had an even better question – Why does the UK even HAVE an Embassy in Iran? The US doesn’t because we learned our lesson and pulled out. The UK now has to go what we went through, its people being held hostage and at the mercy of this Islamic Extremist government. Good luck with that, you’re in our prayers.

…and BTW, Obama is now officially worse than Carter. THIS guy turned his back on the Iranian people when they wanted regime change; helped throw Mubarak under the bus, demanded elections happen ASAP – which benefitted the Muslim Brotherhood, and even declared the Muslim Brotherhood should be part of Egypt’s future (mission accomplished dumb@$$). He violated the Constitution and the War Powers Act by dragging the US into the Middle of Libyan civil war between Qaddafi and Al ‘9/11’ Qaeda, helped Al Qaeda acquire their own nation, which they will rule under Sharia Law, and Libya’s arsenal (including biological weapons) is now in the hands of terrorists in Gaza and Egypt! It is amazing, but after 9/11 this President has ensured that the world – not just the US – is much less safe! In an appropriate analogy, the ‘Embassy compound’ being the world/US and the ‘protesters’ being the Islamic Extremists, Obama has been busy helping open the compound gates rather than ensuring the compound and our people are safe.
