Herman Cain: By the way, a woman’s about to come forward and accuse me of a long affair

posted at 5:21 pm on November 28, 2011 by Allahpundit

The story about the accuser just went live at Fox Atlanta. She gave them her name, an interview on camera, and she claims she has records substantiating the relationship. Here’s the curious non-denial denial from Cain’s lawyer. Hmmm:

“Mr. Cain has been informed today that your television station plans to broadcast a story this evening in which a female will make an accusation that she engaged in a 13-year long physical relationship with Mr. Cain. This is not an accusation of harassment in the workplace – this is not an accusation of an assault – which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate.

Rather, this appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults – a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life. The public’s right to know and the media’s right to report has boundaries and most certainly those boundaries end outside of one’s bedroom door.

Mr. Cain has alerted his wife to this new accusation and discussed it with her. He has no obligation to discuss these types of accusations publicly with the media and he will not do so even if his principled position is viewed unfavorably by members of the media.”

He’s not saying it happened but he’s not saying it didn’t; if it didn’t, and they’re planning to roll out a full denial once the report airs, then this is the worst bit of lawyerly media strategy since Jerry Sandusky’s attorney let him phone in to Bob Costas. And that last bit about Cain refusing to discuss the accusations publicly is mighty strange given that Cain spent 10 solid minutes on CNN this afternoon … discussing the accusations publicly (or rather what little he knows about them). Unlike his lawyer, he flatly denies that it happened. Needless to say, if there really is documentary evidence backing up the accuser’s claim, his credibility’s shattered.

Here’s the Cain interview via Mediaite. I’ll post the Fox Atlanta clip once it’s live. The key bit here comes in the middle, when he says he’s in the race to stay but worries about the impact this is having on his family and promises not to drop out “as long as my wife is behind me.” Exit question: Remember three weeks ago, when this would have had a major effect on the race? Click the image to watch.

Speakup,

Why do women keep coming forward with Cain as a candidate and we don’t know any of Obama’s associations before Michelle?

Because Man’s Country members value their privacy.

Again, it stands to reason that if a GOP candidate for high office has some kind of licentious or lecherous conduct in his past, and he thinks it’s going to stay hidden during the campaign, and that he expects that it will stay hidden, he doesn’t have the common sense or judgement necessary to be President.

Herman, bud, I love ya, but if you didn’t see this coming long ago, you’re definitely not ready for prime time.

Snake307 on November 28, 2011 at 6:44 PM

Conservatives are such big fools. They had a candidate with jaw dropping integrity, charisma, great political instincts and knowledge, had appeal to every cross section of voting public, executive experience, national campaign experience and what do they do. Just because the establishment and the left doesn’t like her, they desert her in the battlefield like in High Noon and choose a bunch of second stringers who have none of the things listed.

Can you imagine how things would have been if the talk radio people supported that candidate during the Tucson episode as they did for Cain during these lurid revelations? Can you imagine if they had united behind that candidate if they had instead of getting worked over by the Team B? It’s even troublesome that conservatives were willing to trade Palin for Cain or a Bachmann. No wonder the GOP and the leftist progressives get a blank check in ruining the country. You can kick a gift horse in the mouth but you won’t get those gifts very often.

promachus on November 28, 2011 at 6:45 PM

So Herb had an affair?

Well – he’ll get not sh** from me over it unless he starts lying about it. I really don’t care one whit where he dipped his wick – that’s his business but if he lies about it then it’s a big problem.

Seriously – Conservative “purists” are their own worst enemies. Newsflash here folks – Thomas Jefferson almost certainly fathered at least one child with one of his slaves! LOL – he was nonetheless a pretty good President.

Newsflash – ALL MEN ARE PERVS – well, all Alpha’s are pervs. You can find a “new castrati” type that probably doesn’t think about other women but – do you really want him as your President?

Don’t make this out as a defense of Herman Cain – Herman Cain is an idiot and woefully unqualified to be President and only idiots can’t see that.

But an affair? Pfft! Give me a break.

By the way – I didn’t see the vid – was she good looking and hot?

Before our interview, we checked into Ginger White’s background. We found she filed a sexual harassment claim against an employer in 2001. That case was settled.

We also found a bankruptcy filing nearly 23 years ago in Kentucky, and a number of eviction notices here in DeKalb County over the past six years. The most recent happened this month.

Ms. White says she has been unemployed, and she is a single mom with two kids struggling to make ends meet.

Just for consideration…

Are they so vapid that they really think no one will ever eventually open that closet door and spill the bones?

If Cain is done then I am going to support Bachmann. She’s the only one going after Gingrich and she’s for securing the borders with no amnesty. She’s been up before and can win Iowa if Cain is really done. I prefer her to Romney all day and besides a vote for Newt might as well be a vote for Romney.

Seriously where does Newt and Romney differ on the issues? They are both for mandates in health care, both for amnesty, both buy into the global warming crap, and both support ethanol subsidies. Seriously, if you are a Tea Party conservative, how can you support Newt Gingrich?

Aslans Girl on November 28, 2011 at 6:22 PM

No need. There are far more efficient and effective methods than that.

Now remember, the same rules apply that the Perry supporters have been pushing about Cain.

1. Accusations equal guilt.

2. No evidence or names are required. Perry must provide all evidence proving that he never had gay sex or affairs with anyone. He must produce all receipts, tickets, proof that he was never alone with any of these people.

3. The more accusations there are, the more they must be true.

4. Even if they come from political opponents, there is no bias and they must be true.

Now watch as the Perry supporters implode, especially given how the Ronulans they’ve been siding with are the ones pushing the rumors the hardest.

I’m “dense” because I see the truth in this part of the lawyer’s statement:

Rather, this appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults – a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life. The public’s right to know and the media’s right to report has boundaries and most certainly those boundaries end outside of one’s bedroom door.

Your completely made-up theory that she wanted to “f him and he turned her down” is delusional.

Dream on, sleazeball.

A marriage is a commitment. Even if your wife agreed to allow you to have an affair, you still broke your commitment. And how you deal with your “private” commitments is absolutely germaine to our evaluation of you as a candidate for public office.

There is no line between public and private behavior. But those who fail in private keep desperately trying to draw it (helped by the MSM if the candidate is sufficiently liberal).

I’m sorry, that woman wouldn’t make it thru the babe filter.

Little Boomer on November 28, 2011 at 7:23 PM

From the Lawyerese it seems as if it leaves room that he could have had a fling with the woman. But to what extent, if any, might be hard to tell as the woman doesn’t seem to be quite a totally reliable person. At any rate, we’ll have to see if she offers up anything other than just accusations.

Herman Cain harassment allegations

The LAST thing the left wants is a Gingrich/Cain ticket. That is why they’re doing this.

You can bet money that Lin Wood is doing a complete background on this woman. It’s already come out that she has filed several lawsuits for harrassment and is a litigious individual.

48 Hour rule.

We cannot allow the WH through it’s Politico “news” organization to take down our candidates. The WH is telling us who they fear. And it is not Romney. That’s just a head fake.

Key West Reader on November 28, 2011 at 7:27 PM

Should Republicans just forfeit the 2012 election and start working on 2016?

neuquenguy on November 28, 2011 at 7:29 PM

whatcat on November 28, 2011 at 7:24 PM

She has cell phone logs. She is an unemployed single mother. Why is the MSM calling her a “Georgia Businesswoman”? Strange. Perhaps she may be one of those damsels in distress who calls a guy like Cain at 4am crying about her situation. Who knows. 48-hour rule. This is the WH doing this. They fear Cain. He can liberate their black voting base and that would devastate the D party.

Key West Reader on November 28, 2011 at 7:29 PM

And so she talked.

We also found a lawsuit filed by a former business partner, Kimberly Vay, who once sought a “stalking temporary protective order” against Ms. White for “repeated e-mails/texts threatening lawsuit and defamation of character.” The case was dismissed; but was followed by a libel lawsuit against Ms. White. A judge entered an order in favor of Kimberly Vay because Ms. White failed to respond to the lawsuit.

When asked why, under those circumstances, her claims against Cain should be believed, White said, “Because I admit it. Whatever happened with Kim happened. Just as there would make no sense for me to come out with these allegations against Herman if it absolutely wasn’t true.”

Well, for one thing, Herman sure can pick em’.

BigWyo on November 28, 2011 at 7:30 PM

Why would a man with so many skeletons in his closet run for president knowing they’d all eventually come out? Is it because Clinton got away with it?

NNtrancer on November 28, 2011 at 5:33 PM

That’s what Newt is counting on.

InkyBinkyBarleyBoo on November 28, 2011 at 5:35 PM

Ironic, isn’t it? After Newt led the campaign to impeach Billy Jeff over his peccadilloes? And now he thinks he can get a pass simply because he was so unsuccessful in the attempt.

By the way – I didn’t see the vid – was she good looking and hot?

HondaV65 on November 28, 2011 at 6:45 PM

Not really, but she didn’t look like a whore either. Just an average looking, late 40s-early 50s woman, with a bit too much makeup and jewelry. Sounded very intelligent, not like someone looking for their 15 minutes. Seemed believable.

Then again, if you’re going to get caught, you’re usually better off if the woman is very attractive in an Angelina or Mila way, but never, ever lie about it when caught red-handed.

American History – I know it’s tough – especially tough is the stuff that happened in the last two decades. Never fear … HONDA is here …

Clinton was NOT impeached over his affair with Lewinsky.

He was impeached because he LIED to the grand jury.

Has Newt ever lied to a grand jury?

purgatory on November 28, 2011 at 7:37 PM

No snark intended, but why do you assume Gloria didn’t know about it? Isn’t it possible she knew, and even approved? Not that I know anything either way, but stranger things have happened. We’ve seen before how a politician’s wife can and will do just about anything to support her husband’s rise to power (and thus her own rise as well).

If I missed some reporting on Gloria, let me know.

Splashman on November 28, 2011 at 7:44 PM

To this day I still do not know why people with so many immoral and/or unethical skeletons in their closet even run for nationally elected offices. I can totally see them accumulating after their first time election, but to have so many beforehand makes even contemplating such an endeavor ludicrous at best. Are they so vapid that they really think no one will ever eventually open that closet door and spill the bones?

FlatFoot on November 28, 2011 at 6:49 PM

I REALLY wanted to believe Cain because he so effectively drew out and exposed the black Americans whom he accurately said were brainwashed into rejecting conservative principles out of hand. I wanted to believe him even more after Gloria Allred reared her ugly head. But what made me suspicious was not so much the legalese that he spewed (e.g., “rejecting” the charges of Sharon Bialek vs. “denying” them), but the way he spoke of himself in the third person. “People don’t want Herman Cain to be President,” Herman Cain would say.

Humble people NEVER do that. That’s what people who want you to learn their name like a mantra before you know what they’ve accomplished do. That’s what guys who hire Drew Rosenhaus to be their agent do. And so it was not a surprise to me the way he hamina-hamina-hamina-ed his way through that simple inquiry about Obama’s policy re Libya.

Even in the midst of lying up a storm when denying the latest “bimbo eruptions,” Bill Clinton made it more about the people he was allegedly fighting for rather than about himself. So does Barack Obama when he lies (to my knowledge, nobody’s asked him about adultery yet, and likely never will). When a person’s public image is mostly anchored to his or her self-confidence, they run a risk of offending people who don’t have it and/or don’t think anyone — no matter how talented — should be so blindly guided by it. That’s one reason why neither Donald Trump nor Herman Cain will ever be President.

L.N. Smithee on November 28, 2011 at 7:44 PM

Someone who comes out of the woodwork to accuse is more credible and any republican or something is the going thought. The hour that he announced his plan to run is the time, not months in and only when he is going down after being on the top of the polls.

After successfully taking Cain down they are having open casting calls to anyone that needs money and lie. The task is to take down Newt then Mitt. And the right will believe it without question

I will be very surprised if more stories about Newt’s affairs don’t come out. The Atlantic claims they have the name of a woman who had an affair with him in the late 1970s.

idesign on November 28, 2011 at 6:29 PM

Notice you couldn’t answer chasdal’s questions? Especially the one about “what policies of Perry don’t you like?”

You exemplify the bitter Palinistas that run to board the Cain train and were pretty vocal in denigrating Perry.

You sound hurt this evening? Things not working out the way you wanted?

- Cain has imploded.

- Many conservatives are beginning to really question whether Gingrich is the best we can do despite his debate prowess.

- And it appears Perry might yet end up with the best comeback story of all.

The media, including some so-called “conservative” outlets, are doing all they can to suppress any news of a Perry comeback or anything that could assist it:

- Gingrich’s illegal immigration eye-opener, including his “humane” comment, and other foibles have been downplayed.

- Perry’s endorsement by Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been spun as nothing but an endorsement from a “crazy lunatic”.

But it is happening, folks, and Perry will end up shocking many who continue to underestimate him.

TheRightMan on November 28, 2011 at 7:57 PM

Splashman: Your point is well taken. However, the interview reflected a very down-to-earth, loving woman who trusted her husband saying he was not capable of being disrepectful to women. If this allegation is true, he has disrepected his wife most of all.

purgatory on November 28, 2011 at 7:58 PM

Why does this matter when it comes to Cain, but doesn’t matter when it came to Edwards, Clinton, Gore, etc? What kind of bizarro world do we live in?

Why it’s simple, my friend. Cain is a black conservative, while the others are white liberals. Therefore, someone has decided that Cain must be destroyed.

Now, can we please stop the fantasy that this has nothing to do with Cain being an African American Conservative?
