Video: Huge ovation for Cain’s answer on harassment charges

posted at 9:20 pm on November 9, 2011 by Allahpundit

He knew he’d be asked about it and he came prepared. If, if, there are no more accusers, I think this’ll be seen as the moment that the bleeding stopped. Right now on InTrade: 4.4 percent. There’s nowhere to go but up.

Did he actually call Pelosi “Princess Nancy” in another answer? Click the image to watch.

I think this harassment issue could unravel in a very ugly way on someone but it won’t be Herman.

If that’s true, then I’m very disappointed in Herman. You don’t say something like “Princess Nancy”. You say “Princess Pelosi”. Doesn’t alliteration mean anything to these folks?

jimw on November 9, 2011 at 10:14 PM

Damned good answer! It’s a pity he spent the first four days after the Politico report lying his butt off all over the news. He had ten days notice of what was coming. If he really couldn’t remember and was that flustered and confused and NOT lying, then he is too stupid a bumbling idiot to be elected anyway.

But Cain earns very high marks for the phrasing he uses near the end, “… getting this economy growing …” which is the proper syntax.

Ever since Clinton, politicians have used “grow this economy” which I consider a rape of the English language. To me it sounds like fingernails on a blackboard. So good on him for that.

JannyMae on November 9, 2011 at 10:31 PM

All it takes is a little common sense. The man had TEN DAYS NOTICE the story was coming. If all these false statements are because he was flustered, nervous, and taken by surprise, then he is too much of a stupid bumbling idiot to be President.

So how about these statements from Cain, all but the first from the first four days after the Politico report?:

No skeletons in my closet
Had no idea what story was about, couldn’t prepare
Accusations baseless
No settlement that I know of
Only incident I recall is height of wife story
Were settlements, but insignificant
Said no settlements because I thought they were “agreements” (Bill Clinton loves this one)
Settlements were normal severance pay, two-three months salary
High tech lynching
Briefed Curt Anderson on scandals when he worked for me in 2004, he works for Perry and leaked it
Maybe didn’t brief him
Perry still did it, maybe Anderson still did it

Maybe you can find Clintonesque excuses for a couple if you are willing to suspend disbelief, but that you would have to only shows you are in denial.

The man is either a lying horn-dog, or a complete idiot. Either way, forget him.

Adjoran on November 9, 2011 at 10:54 PM

Personally, I wished Cain would’ve used this forum (and more of his time on the clock) tonight with a bit more depth on the economy and job growth etc. A bit more meat on them bones, if you will…it is supposed to be his forte. HTL on November 9, 2011 at 9:53 PM

Although I don’t pretend to be an attorney even after watching endless episodes of Law & Order, it seems to me there would rarely be third-party witnesses to a sexual harassment situation involving a CEO, and even more rarely any substantive, paper-trail/phone record kind of evidence. Most of it would then be reduced to he said, she said: the tearful narrative followed by indignant denial.

While it is likely some or even most of those women could be gold-digging opportunists, it is equally likely at least one of those women is telling the truth. Discrediting four out of five does not make the fifth a lying whore by association.

I also think GOP primary voters are being played by Herman Cain and his campaign manager, Mark Block. Their reactions to this scandal strike me as hinky, odd, off-kilter, first accusing the Perry campaign of dropping the dime and now blaming the Democratic Machine (TM) and claiming persecution by a biased, liberal media. And then, of course, there’s Mark Block mistakenly announcing a former Politico reporter is the son of one of Cain’s accusers simply because the reporter shares her last name–which was a ridiculously amateurish blunder, by the way. Can’t wait until Herman is elected president so we can see more of that flawless executive ability in action. And now the Cain campaign is invoking Clarence Thomas’ unjust ordeal in their commercials. I saw that one coming a mile off. Who didn’t?

troyriser_gopftw on November 9, 2011 at 11:17 PM

If Cain follows his good performance tonight with a staff cleansing, beginning with Block, an embarrassment far worse than Perry’s own tonight, he may still have a chance. Block and many of the rest of his staff play against his narrative and strong suit, competent and well-prepared corporate manager/CEO.

And, there’s still much more damage control that needs to be done now and in the next few critical weeks. Cain, buddy, if you’re listenin’, Larry, Curly and Moe gotta go.

JannyMae, I’m sure we don’t want to see that part of his anatomy. :(

As he showed a few comments later, he doesn’t care about truth. He lists all the “sins” of Cain but he omits the part where Politico, when asked by Cain, refused to provide any details about whatever it was they were going to run.

So by definition, Cain had no idea what they were talking about. But our darling little one-trick pony has decided that he’s a liar and not a guy who has been baited with a loaded question.

platypus on November 10, 2011 at 12:48 AM

Quite interesting. That’s getting close to evidence(if it were permissible in court).

MadisonConservative on November 9, 2011 at 10:01 PM

Well now, this isn’t a real court, is it? After all, not one of the accusers has filed any charge in court where Cain could exercise his right to cross examination.

If this whole thing is going to be tried in the “court of public opinion,” this software voice analysis is as admissible as anything the accusers are putting forth. Plus, it tends to show Cain is telling the truth and that at least the one accuser we have heard from is “highly suspect.”

I believed Cain the moment he said he would be willing to take a polygraph.

Liars don’t volunteer to take polygraphs.

There goes Allahpundit with the “intrade” ‘facts” again.!!
Thank Gosh we have that so we all know err…somthing.

If, if, there are no more accusers,

Oh that’s the new “if” huh?

Well we do have a 5th woman whose accusation is that Cain harrassed another woman ( but not directly) who remains nameless by asking event staff to invite her to the dinner they were all going to………Is that the kind of thing you are looking for?
Yeah, that’s gonna be such the campaign destroyer.

I say “if” and only “IF” Romney can stop stuttering , “maybe” he’ll come across as honest and not so phony.

Then we can all look at “intrade” to see the effect.

Let’s do another odds agruement.
What are the odds that Cain sexually harrased two women years ago seperately and one ends up living in the same building as political spin doctor of the sitting President of the oppostion party while Cain becomes the front runner inthe GOP race, AND that same woman also ends up working at the same place (cbs ) as the other woman’s attorney that she just happened to have hired years before. ?

100 million to one? Trillion to one?

This was all orchestrated by the Obama machine that drummed up any and all complaints to twist the past into something it was not.

YES , Romney’s establishment GOP supporters have tried to use this to their advantage. See anything Rove has said , see Romney’s “serious” comment.

‘Your Eminance’

‘Your Royal Highness’

Doughboy on November 10, 2011 at 8:35 AM

Why do the candidates continue to agree to debates that are moderated by these parisan, Obama/Democratic Party @$$-clowns?! Every candidate on that stage should complain to the network this woman works for and inform them not to let her within 100 yeards of any of them again, not as a reporter, not as a moderator – ot even as a weather girl! This was not a ‘debate issue’ that could be ‘debated’ by any of the other candidates. It did not belong in a debate. If she is too stupid to know that then she should try being a Waitress or bag grocderies somewhere because she sure doesn’t belong where she is now. This was a pre-cordinated ‘Hit’ on Cain, plain and simple, and this woman has just ‘outed’ herself as a Left-Wing ‘agent’. I wish the audience would have had tomatoes – she not only would have been BOOed but would have been pelted! Good on Romney for refusing to answer and for demanding the so-called moderator return to the topic of the debate!

easyt65 on November 10, 2011 at 9:03 AM

Perhaps a bit off topic, but I wonder if it wouldn’t make sense for these candidate campaigns to hire an official blog commenter that would go around the political blogs like Hot Air and give the official campaign response to relevant posts.

Count to 10 on November 10, 2011 at 9:17 AM

This is such a disgrace that American politics has descended to a level of juvenile and petty finger pointing lies/gossip as ‘news’ stories. And that the msm (as it is, I mean Politico that started this is not really the msm) believes that this tactic is a viable election process of ‘vetting’ a candidate, is just laughable. It is not going to turn out how the ‘vast Left-wing conspiracy’ machine wanted it to – it is not 1992, this is 2011 – and thanks to all the Liberal/leftists screeding lies against GWB for 8 years (only one in the admin to do time was for a process crime and of course our current liar-in-chief – the credibility of the msm (most especially after ignoring the campaign funds being used by Edwards to cover up an affair) is down in the same gutter they live in.

Even with being unemployed (wife too) – we dug into the change bank and sent Cain a donation. Best way I know of to show the msm exactly how much we believe in their bs ‘gotcha’ hit stories.
