Rove: Hey, you know who lends credibility to Bialek’s story?
posted at 1:55 pm on November 8, 2011 by Ed Morrissey
Mark Levin flagged this on Twitter with this observation: “I think it can be said that Karl Rove has jumped the shark. In fact, the shark bit him on the ass. Good-bye Karl.” Maybe Karl Rove should have consulted with his Fox News colleague Greta van Susteren about Allred’s credibility in allegations involving political candidates. It’s hard to imagine that the appearance of Gloria Allred, of all people, will help Sharon Bialek seem more credible:
“Credibility matters here, and Gloria Allred — while she is a Democrat and a liberal Democrat and openly so — nonetheless, has been involved in a number of high-profile cases like Tiger Woods and others, where the charges have been borne out.
So this gives Ms. Bialek’s charges and accusations a little bit of credibility, and that’s what we’re talking about here — credibility.”
Actually, Bialek would have done better to find an attorney who didn’t have a track record of political hit jobs in the middle of elections. That doesn’t make Bialek’s allegations untrue — the truth of the allegation isn’t really connected to her choice of attorneys — but it certainly doesn’t enhance her credibility, either. Rove should know better than to assert that it does, especially aimed at the conservatives who will have to determine whether to keep defending Cain or look for a different candidate to back in the upcoming primaries.
This may not be a shark-jump moment, but it’s pretty tone deaf. Meanwhile, over on MSNBC, Mika Brzezinski goes the other direction regarding Cain’s accusers:
Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
She prefaced her criticism of Cain’s accusers by making it clear that she has little love for Cain. “I still don’t get why he’s even at the top of the list,” she said.
But she said that Cain was a powerful man at the NRA and slammed his accusers for not coming forward earlier. “Nobody spoke out then, so what does that say about them?” she charged. “‘Cause if someone is a predator, a sexual predator, and they do something to you and you don’t speak out, you’re letting it go.”
She continued, “Clearly this woman and Gloria Allred are very interested in the limelight right now and taking this on and I wonder what their reasons are. Now I’m sure I’ll get killed online for saying that.”
“The whole thing is a pathetic side-show,” she concluded.
Maybe Rove and Brzezinski should trade sound stages ….
Update: On the other hand, it looks like one of the women in the Politico case is ready to step forward and tell her story, too:
Karen Kraushaar, a 55-year-old former journalist and seasoned government spokeswoman who served on the front lines of the Elian Gonzalez custody battle, is a competitive equestrian and lover of golden retrievers. She has been married for more than two decades.
“She wouldn’t be the type to make false allegations,” brother-in-law Ned Kraushaar, a Georgia software consultant, told The Daily. “This happened [more than] 10 years ago. It’s not like she wanted to try and hurt the Republican Party.”
Karen Kraushaar currently serves as a communications director at the Inspector General’s Office of the Treasury Department, a position she has held since last year. She did not return phone messages left by The Daily. …
Since Politico broke the story that two women had received cash settlements after filing sexual harassment claims against Cain, various news outlets have declined to identify the women, citing privacy issues. A third woman’s case was disclosed last week, but The Associated Press did not name her.
Following a request from Bennett, the restaurant association waived the confidentiality terms of its agreement with Kraushaar last Friday so that she would be allowed to speak publicly.
Now, this could be trouble for Cain, and something that could make Bialek more credible.

After three years of the media covering for Obama, I don’t believe a word they say anymore. I’m not going to attack the accuser, just the reporters for swallowing the entire story whole and reporting it without skepticism after doing everything they can to prop up Obama for years in an entirely obvious manner.
Sorry, but I don’t trust them. I’m not wedded to Cain as our candidate, but nothing that I have heard makes me re-think my support. The worst I have heard makes Cain look like a lecherous guy that never really crossed the line between “inappropriate” and “illegal”.
Whatever. I’ve been a horndog, I just never had any money.

Oh, they’re on our side. But they have no spine. Just watch. If Cain goes down, they’ll stick with Newt no more than a couple weeks before his candidacy becomes too controversial. Then he’ll be thrown to the wolves. Then it’ll be second look at Perry time which will an exercise in futility given the man’s inability to talk. Then we’ll be stuck with Romney and the base will have the temerity to wonder with a straight face how we got stuck with another lousy “moderate” candidate.

From now on I think I’ll refer to Tokyo Rove as The Lamprey. He seems willing to attach himself to anything or anyone not of the Beltway GOP fossils ilk and attempt to suck the life out of it. He provided needless distractions and comfort to the DNC in the 2010 elections and since then has been pretty much a firebrand of the worst sort.
Some of us haven’t forgotten Scooter Libby and how some of the Belway GOP elite chose him as their fall guy knowing full well that Armitage was the source of the leak yet did nothing to protect and defend Libby. The Lamprey Rove has become little more than an agitator whose desire it seems is to scuttle anyone not part of the GOP elitists’ “our thing.”

Where in this story does it say anything about the woman being ready to step forward?
No, that’s what YOU would do. What someone else would do is pure speculation on your part. It very well could be they’re trying to get rid of Cain now because they have something even worse on Perry or Romney.

Note the emphasized items, above. This lady is a Dem hack tool: she worked under Clinton (does anyone remember Elian Gonzalez and Janet Reno – that Clinton fiasco?!); she just got hired a year ago under Obama’s Treasury Dept.; she is a “seasoned government spokeswoman”; and – wait for it! – a “former journalist”.
Add them up: liberal (worked under Clinton) + liberal (works under Obama NOW) + liberal communicator (read: trained and trusted by leftists) + liberal (just what % of journalists are Conservative?!) = LIBERAL
Don’t buy that pile of cr*p in the Daily article. She is a Dem leftist liberal tool. She did what she did, got a settlement, took the money and RAN. Right into the Clinton Administration, it seems.
Until the NRA investigation results AND the sealed settlement are made public, it is STILL her word/his word gossip.
Ed, you should know better. This is rumor, hearsay, and gossip. The likelihood that ANY of this is legit is next to nil; it is a Sarah Palin “file numerous [FAKE] ethics violation smear” type hit-job. Yes, the allegations were raised and, yes, there was a settlement; however, NOTHING FACTUAL has been stated or corroborated. How does the saying go, it’s not the veracity of the allegation, it is the seriousness of the charge….eh?
Don’t let media hackers, leftist smear merchants, and the politics of personal destruction choose who will – or will NOT – be the candidate.
Of course, if you are a MN lib-leaning psuedo-Conservative, by all means, trash Cain without all the facts, believe a woman who comes out of the woodwork after 15 years, without seeing the sealed settlement papers, and the investigation results that the NRA no doubt has at their disposal.
I am not saying Cain did or did not do anything. I am saying don’t jump to conclusions. All the facts are NOT in.

Why don’t some of you that must threaten to not vote or vote for the odious Obama just wait and see what takes place. All of your threats to NEVER do this or that have no meaning until we know who the candidate is. I don’t think anyone on any of the conservative leaning forums want Romney as our pick but at least wait until he is then we can decide if we want to bash him and help Obama get re-elected or vote Romney and a Republican Congress in. With a Repub Congress Romney would have to go along with them or else. If Obama gets in and we elect a Repub Congress we have grid lock and no Obamacare reversal. Anyone remember the outrage over Edwards? Where is it now? Anyone remember Schwarzenegger?
Allred took the Governator to school, correctly exposing his misconduct. Then took Meg Whitman to school for having had an illegal housekeeper. She really does seem to hew to the truth. No matter how irritating she is — if she has exposed something malign, blame the person who made the error. It’s not her fault.

The poetic justic in all this is that Allred and her attempts at grabbing publicity have been overshadowed and out-sleazed by the Michael Jackson trial, the Penn State child abuse scandals, and world events like Berlosconi in Italy resigning. It’s up to Mr. Cain to put a stop to it once and for all even though the democrats will keep running with it regardless. They never let truth stand in their way.

Three reasons I still like Cain.
1. Accuser broke says she not getting paid for interviews but we all know that the MSM gets around that by paying someone close to the interview-y
2. Allred lends no credibility other than she represents a lot of whores and law breakers
3. And we all know that people from Chicago are very open and transparent.
multiuseless on November 8, 2011 at 3:56 PM
Yes indeed, and we know how much Bill Clinton must have loved, loved, loved Herman Cain back in the 90′s, and didn’t Clinton have a tendency to be a tad vindictive as to his enemies? ..
So 2 women at NRA make SH claims against Cain. They are settled for a pittance, one goes to work for the Clinton DOJ.
A month ago a woman who claims to have been sexually propositioned by Cain goes to a Tea Party conference where she gives him a nice hug, but she really wanted to call him out on his behavior. Before the incident she told him he should run for president. (which he actually did, 3 years after he assaulted her in the car). Cain has been a TP favorite since day one, and has a pretty public persona, yet she never makes her claims public, or even a private email or such to call him out, instead just a nice hug.
We have the witness Wilson, who works for Perry, who saw something so awful that he can’t really say what it was, but it was bad.
Ace says that he heard about the story months ago.
Now a former USAID claims that Cain solicted a dinner invitation which was so creepy, she and two others actually went out to dinner with him.
Cain says he never SH anyone, that Bialeks claims are completely false, gave interview after interview after interview last week, (but it isn’t enough, he really needs to “clear the air”.
Cain blames Romney making the Anderson/witness Wilson connection, Perry blames Romney, so Cain and Perry were wrong, not just Cain.
And then there’s Rove and Kristol to pile on… Remember how Rove spoke about COD after she won the GOP primary? I thought that after a primary us conservatives are supposed to rally round the candidate for the good of the party.. Rove sure as heck didn’t follow that rule…
This is a hit job.. Cain flounders a bit, but that is kinda par for his course.. but the piling on and media firestorm is really the sickening part.
kringeesmom on November 8, 2011 at 3:59 PM
Rove is doing an awful bad job as a bull shit artist here. Nothing he said demonstrates even a “little bit” of credibility except to the stupid. Does the Tiger Woods case have anything to do with Cain? Was Woods accused of sexual harassment by these publicity seeking bimbos? Is Gloria Allred an icon of truth & goodness? Go away Rove.
Chessplayer on November 8, 2011 at 4:00 PM
Sheesh, Ed.
None of these women did or say anything until Cain became a frontrunner.
If you are saying that it could be a problem for Cain as a Presidential candidate, ok.
But before you convict a person without a trial, you’re no different tha Mika. (Yes, Ed. Your statement that “this could be trouble for Cain…” is no less powerful fueling speculation.) If this ends up going to court, and things turn out not to substantiate these claims, are you going to apologize, Ed?
Jeez, the media can be terrifying because it could couch “He said, she said.” to convict someone outside a courtroom. I’m not sure if I’m more worried over Communists like Obama being President, or the media that made him what he is. After all, our Party-In-Chief received a Nobel Peace Prize, simply because everyone believed the media hype.
Who needs the legal system, when they have the media system?
Danny on November 8, 2011 at 4:07 PM
Rove’s point is perfectly valid. His entire point is that Allread has historically only involved herself in these things (call them “hitjobs” if you will) when the allegations have been borne out.
DaveS on November 8, 2011 at 4:09 PM
I personally think this accuser has issues. Granted…I haven’t read every article known to man about this but…she says she met with him .. basically he made an inappropriate gesture towards her and that was it? So … all these years later she brings it back up after consulting with her 13 yo son about it? Who talks to their teenage son about an advance made towards you years ago??? I’m confused I guess. When does it go from being someone you are meeting with made an advance at you…to sexual harassment? She wasn’t working for him at the time right?
maables on November 8, 2011 at 4:26 PM
Rove isn’t even smart enough to know Allred and Bialek are a couple of attention whores doing what attention whores do. Allred is a democratic tool that has a track record for hitting below the belt. Rove is an establishment RINO who has made the republican party the third party and he does even know it. All three of these buffoons are just tools that the mainstream media loves to exploit in the name of liberalism. Just more proof journalism is dead.

locomotivebreath1901 on November 8, 2011 at 4:31 PM
As much as I don’t want to agree with Rove, he is right about Allred — she just got Weiner. She is not going to take on a high profile case like this unless she is sure the person is honest. After Rush’s crude remarks yesterday with noises, I find the conservative pundits disgusting. The attacks on the woman are so far over the top that I won’t listen to Rush or Hannity again and that means NEVER.
Was sent this in email and it definitely details why I will never support Cain and it goes way beyond the sexual harassment charges which I find credible — it goes to what seems to be covered up by these charges:
PhiKapMom on November 8, 2011 at 4:32 PM
I tend toward mostly agreeing with that ^^.
And perhaps Rove’s weirdly wandering assumptions about Gloria Allred are some sort of “Rovian” method to catch her and this issue off-guard?
[[ Pause. ]]
Well, it was worth considering.
Lourdes on November 8, 2011 at 4:50 PM
Oh, for Heaven’s sake, Gloria Allred is a scum-cooking creep. I bet she’s never asked any client if they were telling ‘the truth’ or not. She doesn’t want to know that.
Lourdes on November 8, 2011 at 4:51 PM
Okay, Rush gives his radio listeners the rundown on the Legal Insurrection tabulations of the number of Politico stories written about Herman Cain. Okay, as of Sunday, 138 stories about Herman Cain had been written over the course of seven (7) days, and 91 mentioned sexual harassment.
Correction from my comment above, however:
Josh Kraushaar is no longer with Politico — he is with the National Journal, where he has recently written about Cain’s “foreign policy flubs,”, noting Cain’s “struggles to get past the sexual harassment scandal,” and predicting that Romney all but has the nomination sewn up.
Trochilus on November 8, 2011 at 4:52 PM
And, to be blunt, Rove is most likely simply trying to package this issue up and looking ahead to winning the election in November 2012. Cain remains popular and will, I am sure, but he isn’t the answer to winning the election in Nov. 2012 for the GOP.
Rove appears to be trying to package this issue up and to “move on”. Letting it belabor on and on and on…accuser here, accuser there, tabloid here, there…it’s what I am sure is another Axelrod “public relations” campaign to wear the public out so they’ll all wimper for and about Obama again.
Give Rove SOME credit, he does know what he’s doing and though I can’t agree with him as to complimenting the ugly likes of Gloria Allred, Rove does know what he’s doing.
Lourdes on November 8, 2011 at 4:55 PM
Nahhh…what she DOES is use media to leverage her goals (ahem, Axelrod’s forte is “public relations” which is nothing more or less than creating public rumors and manipulating them through to the appearance of eventual reality despite them not being, necessarily, true — it’s the use of media, “public relations,” to worm through toward a desired reputational goal but it is NOT synonmous with “proving facts” or representing truth).
And Allred’s goals are to win large payouts. She embarrasses and goads people using media and whatever other gossip-train she can to bring others around to paying her to go away.
And she’s keen on identifying ~clients~ who are useful in that process.
But her work does not involve verifying allegations. Hardly that.
Lourdes on November 8, 2011 at 5:00 PM
“Allred’s goals are to win large payouts.” I’ll add to that, payouts of a financial AND politically competitive nature.
Note who she targets.
Lourdes on November 8, 2011 at 5:02 PM
To repeat what I’ve been commenting here and elsewhere for a long time now, the ‘piling on and media firestorm’ should be expected. It is what they do to GOP figures who gain public popularity.
And the media, nearly all of it, is a fifth leg of the DNC beast. Expect them to engage in this crud, it’s the only thing they know to do. It’s awful, pathetic, but it’s what they do.

balkanmom on November 9, 2011 at 10:01 AM
lemme see here:
There was NO settlement agreement; it was a severance agreement and it was between Kraushaar and the NRA. Herman Cain was NOT a party to the agreement, didn’t get the opportunity to read, approve the agreement and actually denied Kraushaar’s allegations. Indeed, the NRA found her allegations to be unfounded. Kraushaar now works for the Obama administration. One of her FRIENDS is quoted as saying she is a gold digger.
Now we look at Sharon Bailek, involved in 2 bankruptcies, 4 litigations and 1 paternity suit – all within the last 15 years. Has a very checkered employment history (something like 9 jobs in 15 years) and also filed a claim against her employer after the NRA. Oh and Bailek just happens (coincidentally I’m sure) to live in the SAME apartment building as David Axlerod.
Since some of you like to quote the number of sexual harassment claims against Cain, let’s look at the only other one for which we have ANY details at all. Some woman alleges that Cain asked her to arrange a dinner date with a woman in the audience who had asked him a question so he could better answer the question. The woman refused, Cain suggested dinner with her, she brought along colleagues including at least one other woman and NOTHING happened except Cain ordered to $400 bottles of wine! Oh my oh my.
The rest of the “allegations” are heresay with NO details, NO identified persons and to date, NO lawyers.
For all the above reasons, you suggest that I jump the Cain Train and endorse a politician’s politician who will tickle your ears with whatever you wish to hear. You don’t believe me when I say I will NOT vote for Romney – well then follow me to the ballot box. I am SICK of the dirty filthy politics where the GOP believes they can FORCE voters to vote for someone they do not believe and do not support. I didn’[t vote for McCain, I voted for Sarah Palin and it’s the ONLY reason McCain got my vote. I will NOT vote for Romey and you may call me anything you want, tell me Obummer will win or whatever, but I refuse to have MY vote stolen from me by filth.
