The latest expert on energy policy is…

posted at 8:30 am on November 5, 2011 by Jazz Shaw

Another “high profile celebrity voice” is apparently joining the national conversation on energy policy. Given how important the topic is, we may as well invite everyone into the pool. This time it’s a continuation of the ongoing protests against the Keystone XL pipeline and, in particular, President Obama’s recent tentative support for moving ahead with the project. So who is this latest authority on the nation’s energy needs who wishes to scold the president for his crazy plan to take a small step toward domestic energy independence?

How about… Elaine from Seinfeld.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, known for her role as Elaine on the popular sitcom “Seinfeld,” has released a video urging President Obama to reject the permit for the proposed Keystone XL pipeline. She joins a number of other celebrities and activists who have spoken out against the pipeline, and will be participating in the November 6 Tar Sands Action protest at the White House.

In the video above, Louis-Dreyfus reminds the president of how he was going to be the leader of “the generation that ends the tyranny of oil.” She then goes on to describe the Keystone XL pipeline as being “a brutally stupid, money-grab,” and calls on Obama to reverse course.

I understand that the former Seinfeld star wants to get involved and “save the planet” or whatever the agenda is being called this week, and she has the same right to weigh in on it as anyone else. But while she’s solving all of the world’s problems, perhaps she’d like to explain to the literally tens of thousands of unemployed construction and energy industry workers who could be employed on this project what else they should do in the meantime? (The last estimates are that the pipeline will produce 20,000 jobs here in the United States.) Maybe she could explain to the armies of idle workers in the gulf region her alternate plan to get our refinery capacity back up to nominal production levels and, hopefully, expand them?

Tomorrow, November 6, she will apparently be showing up at the White House to send her message directly to Barack Obama. (Even if he’s in France at the time.) What could possibly go wrong? So get out there and march, Julia! Or, failing that, perhaps she could just get back to what she seems to do best.

She is definitely part of the 1% beyond what she made on Seinfeld in that she came from beaucoup bucks. She has never had to worry about the cost of filling her tank, heating her house, the cost of food, or losing her job due to draconian regulations meant to put your employer out of business.

Pathetic.

Really, what is despicable about this is that Dreyfuss is a multi millionaire that will never have to worry about paying a bill or having a very expensive lifestyle and yet she is literally trying to take food out of the mouths of children and throw families out of their homes by closing down a project that will provide thousands of high paying jobs for people in desperate need of those jobs to keep their families together…. and this is all a big joke to her…what people her do on this type of issue is obscene

And yet her family is knee deep in energy and oil

Louis-Dreyfus has two half-sisters on her Louis-Dreyfus side, Emma and Phoebe.[7] Through her father, a billionaire heir to the Louis Dreyfus Group, one of the world’s largest commodities trading and merchandising firms</

Energy
In North America, the Group is active in the merchandising, trading and storage of natural gas, natural gas liquids, refined products, coal, plastic resins and other petrochemicals. In France, the Group is an alternate supplier of electricity to small companies, multi-site networks and local communities.

When a Canadian declares something as a no-brainer, there is no argument. They are seldom assertive, but when they are, they have the reason.

It’s a tyranny if everyone is dependent on oil. If celebrities and other elites are the only ones having to remain dependent on it’s continued use, then it’s okay.

That’s the sacrifice they’re willing to make to save the planet.

Dusty on November 5, 2011 at 9:52 AM

If you think about it, oil has done more to advance technology, standard of living, humanity, and freedom than any other single energy source in all of human history. Yes, eventually it will run out, but “green” energy is decades away from being economically feasible. Windmills and solar panels do not generate electricity; they generate subsidies and kickbacks.
If liberals really believed in man-made global warming, then why were they unanimously for rebuilding New Orleans? Its 15 ft below sea level now!

The higher amounts of street-cred you have, the higher you move up on the invitation lists of various high-society parties held by uber-rich Leftists in such exclusive venues as Malibu, The Hamptons, and Martha’s Vineyard. Unless of course somehow their business is not involved in, and is therefore adversely impacted by, a pipeline.

E.g., Robert O. Anderson of Atlantic Richfield Oil (ARCO) funded Friends of the Earth. Why? Maybe he just loves the environment, or maybe the costs of the regulations FOTE advocated were more easily borne by ARCO than its smaller competitors.

“Anderson also founded the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies. With Anderson as chairman and Atlantic Richfield [ARCO] head Thornton Bradshaw as vice-chairman, the Aspen Institute in the early 1970s was a major financial conduit for the creation of the establishment’s new antinuclear agenda.”

So since this is the way things often work, I suspect that Louis-Dreyfus Energy Services’ success and the pipeline’s are somehow inimical. At least in this instance there’s a chance that her activism is something other -or in addition to- the typical desire of an airhead actress to “get involved.”
