Good news: OWS sets up women-only tent to help cut down on rapes
posted at 4:16 pm on November 5, 2011 by Allahpundit
Grim perfection from Glenn Reynolds: “I guess they really are taking Tahrir Square as their model.”
Let it sink in: Their protests now need rape shelters. This is actually happening. And New York City lets it go on.
Zuccotti Park has become so overrun by sexual predators attacking women in the night that organizers felt compelled to set up a female-only sleeping tent yesterday to keep the sickos away.
The large, metal-framed “safety tent” — which will be guarded by an all-female patrol — can accommodate as many as 18 people and will be used during the day for women-only meetings, said Occupy Wall Street organizers.
“This is all about safety in numbers,” said Becky Wartell, 24, a protester from Portland, Maine…
Some of the male OWS protesters remained in denial over the growing number of sex attacks.
“Sexual harassment gets called rape, and it’s not,” one scoffed when told of the women’s tent.
This can’t be repeated enough: With a few exceptions, foremost among them the New York Post, the coverage of OWS protests compared to the coverage of tea-party protests is the worst media double standard in recent history. Nothing compares, because nothing else involves this much distortion on both ends of the coverage. It’s not just that most press outlets (like the protesters themselves) look the other way at depravity happening inside Obamaville, it’s that for years they treated the tea-party movement as some sort of feral mob that was forever on the brink of rampaging through the streets — like, say, Occupy Oakland just did. If you missed it when I posted it last week, go watch the ad the DNC ran in August 2009 when tea partiers first started showing up to town halls on ObamaCare. That set the tone. We began the year with tea-party pols being smeared as killers over a shooting they had nothing to do with and we end it with actual rapes being shrugged off by the press because they’re bad PR for a movement they support. Disgrace.
Via the Daily Caller, watch the not-at-all feral or mobbish revolutionary heroes of Occupy D.C. do their thing last night outside AFP. The video doesn’t capture the extent of the menace, either. For that, read R.S. McCain’s interview with D.C. reporter Michelle Fields, who at one point found herself surrounded by a group of men screaming “F*** Michelle Fields.” No wonder she doesn’t want to go back. Tahrir Square indeed.

Save the Republic, EAT AN OCCUPIER!!
I’m still waiting for the t-shirt vendor to setup shop across from the OWS site and use the capitalist system to benefit HIMSELF by selling these t-shirts due to their work and effort. And have them come over and tell the vendor that HE CAN’T BENEFIT from their efforts, and the vendor to tell them, that’s WHAT THEY WANT TO DO.
OH, WAIT……..the OWS has protected their “brand” now.
If I were mayor, I’d give them 3 hours to clean out their crapola and then I’d start the water cannons on their little prissy lily livered beehinds.

I guess that I’d be in jail if I had to deal with that crap and had a child in the back seat. Of course my defense would revolve around the guy who was leering through the side window at the child… while the rest of the mob was yelling obscenities… like ‘F**k you’… “I took them literally. Because I have no reference point that said I should take them otherwise. And I had to get my child to safety.”

CBS reporter sexually assaulted in Cairo
Tuesday, February 15, 2011
***************************
CBS News correspondent Lara Logan was recovering in a U.S. hospital Tuesday from a sexual attack and beating she suffered while reporting on the tumultuous events in Cairo.
Logan was in the city’s Tahrir Square on Friday after Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down when she, her team and their security
“were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration,”
CBS said in a statement Tuesday.
The network described a mob of more than 200 people “whipped into a frenzy.”

About half an hour ago, CNN had a blip about the violence at OWS protest. They deflected that statement, and started showing video of what they described as the peaceful protest in Atlanta OWS, including a Jesse Jackson photo op. Let’s keep hope alive SNARK.
Apparently they don’t cover rape tents. It’s just not relevant news.
They are sowing the wind, they are going to reap the whirlwind. How culpable will the media be, when people start getting killed at these Occupied MOB events? Because all signs point to escalation on the part of the emboldened fringe.
Dr Evil on November 5, 2011 at 5:06 PM
I think behind this egregious double standard is the media’s objective of keeping the status quo. Both tea partiers and OWSers, for different reasons of course, threaten the status quo, which is why one group is demonized and the other romanticized. A disgrace, indeed.
Threshing Flora on November 5, 2011 at 5:06 PM
Back in the day these folks were called the Sons of Liberty. Cant start a *evolution without them. They don’t know or care about the truth of things, they just want their *evolution. Conservatives are the same as then, slow to understand what is happening. Back then conservatives were demonized too and as the *evolution commenced they were disenfranchised, their property confiscated and then they were forced into exile. I wonder how it will turn out this time.

It’s like that in Philly, too. The last three weeks, they’ve marched from City Hall to Walnut Street on Friday afternoon, and hten marched down Walnut Street to Rittenhouse Square.
They have cop cars in back of them so they don’t get run over by the traffic in back. They stop in front of a store (Apple, the first time, maybe eeevil billinaire Jobs should have given iPhones away). Yesterday they tried to get into a hotel where Romney was holding a fundraiser.
(Generally, parades are held on weekends or legal holidays, when there is no business traffic.)
The only bright spot, if one can call it that, is that no one takes a group of fifty (at the most) ragged hippies and students with cardboard signs seriously.

Right now they are talking about the Gingrich vs Cain debate so they are naturally bringing up the sexual harrassment allegations made against Cain.
Nothing on D.C. OWS violence, nothing on the fire in Ft Collins OWS arrested for arson. No mention of rape tents in NYC OWS.

Ed,
The Republicans are responsible for allowing this media double standard to go on, by their failure to rake Obama over the coals over his phony, gratuitous “civility speech” after Gabby Gifford’s shooting.
The media creates a story out of whole cloth by trying to tie Gifford’s shooting to Sarah Palin and the Tea Party. Then Obama jumps into the ring and gives his speech. Sure, he paid lip service to even handedness, by saying that both sides need to tone it down. But his implications were quite clear, based on the timing of the speech, and the fact that he felt the need to go to Arizona to deliver it.
He was basically saying “maybe a Tea Partier didn’t shoot Gabby Giffords, but I really need to give this speech right now, because it very well could’ve been a Tea Partier, and I need to discourage any Tea Partiers who are polishing their guns and staring at Sarah Palin’s crosshairs map as I speak”.
Not one Republican called either Obama or the media out on this. When it comes to Democrat/MSM tag team propaganda, the entire Republican party are a bunch of drooling idiots.
We need to throw all these bums out and elect some people in the mold of an Andrew Breitbart. People who are willing to go on Meet The Press and turn the tables on these talking heads, and start quoting chapter and verse from NewsBusters and Media Research Center. We need to have these talking heads shaking in their boots whenever they interview a Republican politician about anything, because they’ll know that these politicians did their homework, and they’ll never know what to expect from them once they answer whatever question is being asked of them. Maybe then, they’ll think twice about doing 50 stories on Herman Cain’s supposed sexual harrassment after ignoring all of Clinton’s female victims.

I don’t see the problem here. The female-bodied persons who do not wish to be raped stay in the guarded “Beyotches Only” tent, and those who don’t really care on way or the other stay anywhere else. They should also – for balance for the female-bodied persons who are really “up-twinkles” on rape – consider having a “Rape Us Please” tent, too.
