The whole world is watching: OWS protester talks about assaults inside the camp

posted at 9:56 pm on November 1, 2011 by Allahpundit

Via Lee Stranahan, Brandon Darby, and Andrew Breitbart, who has this exactly right: “Mayor Bloomberg is allowing New York’s inmates to run the asylum.” Not only that, allegedly he’s sending extra inmates in. Remember, according to the Daily News, the NYPD is actually steering drunks and derelicts to Zuccotti Park to make life more dangerous for protesters in hopes that they’ll leave. OWS would have a problem with that regardless, as word’s bound to get around among the city’s homeless that there’s free eats and warm blankets downtown, but Bloomberg seems perfectly happy to let it go on and on. At best, he’s negligent about a threat to public safety; at worst, he’s complicit in it. What you’re looking at here, potentially, is an exhibit in the inevitable lawsuit against the city.

And things are getting worse. Even according to a lefty outfit like HuffPo:

There have been multiple incidents of assault, drug dealing and drug use, rape and attempted rape, according to conversations with numerous protesters. And the problem, they say, is getting worse.

In the past several weeks, the cluster of tents at the west end of the park — the farthest section from the bustle of working groups and activity near Broadway — has grown increasingly dangerous, many say. The sanitation team has reported finding needles in tents, and reports of crack and crystal meth use have surfaced. But the most serious concern most protesters say, is the risk of assault, especially for women and at night…

But disruptions abounded during Monday’s meeting [on how to deal with crime and violence in the park], illustrating a concern for many occupiers: Can the current consensus-driven decision-making process function as the group in Zuccotti grows larger.

“These people are telling you what to do!” an agitated man with a mohawk shouted out. “There are many dangerous things being spoken right now!”

The OWS interview is the first clip below. The second clip, also via Big Government, speaks for itself. And since we’re talking about casualties of the revolution here, spare a thought for these poor 99-percenters, who are now unemployed because OWS’s presence has forced the cops to all but shut down some streets near the occupation. Since they have no income now, maybe they can go over to the park and eat free. I hope they like spaghetti bolognese.

Making a small part of his living off of covering it.

What a crime!

At least AllahPundit doesn’t take any Devil Dollars like that Breitbart fellow.

Getting out, as in he’s seen enough (but will still cover it, of course).

So he should still cover it, just not make money at doing so?
And he’s out, but still in… or something?

Hope that helps.

“We have security people…
………..they have thrown people out of here”……

“They keep photographs of people who have sexually assaulted people and caused problems….
………….they go around and say “Don’t give this guy a blanket,he sexually assaulted a girl”……..

So are we to understand that OWS is condemning people, marking them as “rapist”, and assaulting them by throwing them out without any due process.

What about their rights…civil liberties??????

What happened to Innocent until proven guilty?????

Next thing you know OWS will be waterboarding people.

Baxter Greene on November 2, 2011 at 12:22 AM

Oh yeah. I knew we could count on Breitbart! I hope he has videos of crazies, commies and nazis into next year.

A perfect opportunity for a creative capitalist to make bank by selling ball gags, duct tape & 4-point restraints to all the creeps whose civil rights are being trampled by being deprived of a fair trial and free warm blankets. End Woobie-Gate!

Like chill, dude…like Corzine didn’t steal it, he redistributed it and like, you know, the OWS guys all across Amerika, like, got it sent to them, so it’s not like he stole stole, not like Haliburton and Bush and stuff, like, the money belonged to the people, like, you know, not to those rich investors and stuff who stole it from the people to begin with and like tried to make more money off stolen money and stuff. So, chill, K?

Corzine is like Robin Hood, OK?

//

coldwarrior on November 2, 2011 at 6:06 AM

I pray the feds can nail down a paper trail to show where Corzine was instrumental in the theft/loss of funds and instrumental in making representations that the “investments” were guaranteed. Maybe they can place him in a cell with Bernie Maddoff. And to think Corzine had designs on being more than just a governor and a plethora of empty headed supporters who envisioned him as Presidential material.

That’s all we’d need, a crook and financial scam artist in the White House.

Ummm, wait a minute…oops, already been done.

Did none of these OWS “organizers” even consider that their utopia would end up as a pile of dog doo.

If this is the sort of “intellect” we are producing in our universities, we are screwed royally for the next several decades.

While the neo-elites try to convince us that being liberal/Euro is the way to go, all across the world real cutthroats, real movers and shakers, are teaching their kids the value of Sun Tzu…and a healthy dose of capitalism.

Who is gonna win in that confrontation?

The skittles and rainbows crowd?

We’re screwed.

Flew from CT to AL at about 1,500′ and brothers and sisters, it’s still a great big country with lots to offer. Our country is drop dead gorgeous as compared to some crap holes I’ve flown over and if you can’t make something of yourself here, you aren’t anything to begin with.

hawkdriver on November 1, 2011 at 10:59 PM

True words my friend!

Yeah.. this is ceasing to be a protest group and is more like a village State. Not very self sustaining though. Very limited resources so not a lot to trade with their neighbors. Well, on second thought… they could apply for a loan from the UN or the US. Purchase goods like yarn, for instance. Set up something like a mitten tent and in return ship mittens and yarny stuff like that back to New York.

With the loan they get from the US, maybe they could beef up their security force a little more. Purchase some weapons. Maybe Obama could send in some military advisers to assist them with training. They need to establish some real authority here soon. Might help them if they can get a handle on their borders and stop the flow of homeless and criminals into their community. Maybe set up s a fence or something. Establish patrols.

I found it interesting in her complaint about he police not doing anything about the problem, she said “we tell them we don’t really want these people here but they ignore it”.

She apparently does not understand that:

A: Setting up a camp in a park that you do not own and when the owner does not want you there, does not give you any legal right to determine who else is allowed to be there.

B: The police are there to enforce the law, not to enforce the rules set up by the OWS working groups.

C: I don’t think the park’s real owners really , like, want here there either.

I just want to point out that the young lady in the video said she got so sick from sleeping at Zucotti Square that she was hospitalized. The place is a teeming brew of disease. And then she went back for more! Will OWS pay her medical bills?

Urban Infidel on November 2, 2011 at 7:40 AM

Thought this was a true “peoples” event, this OWS thing.

But, some people are not allowed, some people need to be removed, some people are undesirables, some people demand their privacy, some people are dirty and moochers, some people are predators, some people are simply too stupid to be involved, some people are stealing, some people are unfairly redistributing peoples property and donations…

Sounds like they want this OWS thing to be more and more exclusionary every day.

When anarchists start demanding rules, well, it seems the antithesis of what they seek.

Are any of these participants understanding the dynamics of this?

coldwarrior on November 2, 2011 at 7:43 AM

We have these jackasses protesting down the street from us now in SE DC. Pardon me if I don’t feel one whit of sympathy for the crimes being committed against them. As far as I’m concerned, it’s deserved. They want wealth redistribution and anarchy so they shouldn’t complain now when they are getting their wish.

let me take this down- rape or/and sodomize someone and don’t get a blanket as punishment. work in the banking industry or have buckets of money- we kill you. well, that’s the solution to world peace and equality for sure- why hasn’t someone thought of it before?

soon they’ll be killing prostitutes(kathleen smith) and female book keepers( betty van patter)- more likely the homeless who are annoying them and those in their own ranks who are betraying their movement by broadcasting their sins. this is all the same woman hating crap and outright criminality that went on with filthy marxists hippies like billy ayers and in the black panthers. one can’t protest against the many injustices of the world and still willfully partake of those transgressions that you enjoy personally or that give you power over others.they’re the same old fascist pigs they claim to be fighting against.

i love how they hate the police but think they have the right to personally order law enforcement to rough up those they do not want in ‘ their’ park. it’s fine to have jackbooted goons as long as they’re your personal jackbooted goons.

did uncle billy “free bird’ ayers give them a rape seminar at his last pizza party lecture- as they seem to be ramping up on the sexual assault? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2106113/posts

I hope a few of these foolish women who have nonetheless been wrongly attacked sexually wake up and scare up a “greedy” personal injury attorney to sue the pants off the city, and Bloomberg in particular, for authorizing this carnal carnival. The lawyers know where the deep pockets are . . .

tpitman on November 2, 2011 at 12:03 PM

There’s only two things that Republicans ought be saying in regards to OWS.

1. If Tea Party protesters were camping out for weeks on end, and engaging in this kind of behavior, they’d not only be condemned by the media, but none of the Liberal mayors or Liberal City Councils in any of these Blue cities would tolerate them for more than a few days, at most.

2. If these protesters want to talk about the root causes of a financial crisis that happened three years ago, which Obama was supposed to have fixed by now, we’d be happy to remind these people exactly how and why policies pushed by the Democrats led to an artificial housing bubble.

Other than that, they should keep quiet and let these fools make fools of themselves.

ardenenoch on November 2, 2011 at 12:29 PM

May not be very PC but I have trouble finding much empathy/sympathy for women who put themselves in dangerous situations and then whine when something goes wrong. These OWS people are just getting the opportunity to learn that behavior has consequences.

Sexual assault? No blanket for you!

Czarkazm on November 2, 2011 at 12:33 PM

What the heck did they think would happen?

Fine, ANALOGY TIME™:

Everyone gather around.

Consider an office building with a “smoking area” and punishment (fines, possibly firing, etc.) for smoking elsewhere on the property. People then smoke in the smoking area, centering their activity to the location where deterrence to that activity is minimized.

Now consider NYC.

If you try to rape a woman in NYC, maybe she’s armed, or maybe you get caught and sent to jail for 5-10 years. That’s a lot of deterrence.

Now consider inside the park, she’s not armed; and if you get caught you get yelled at a bit and flashlights shone in your face… then you’re free to go (and come back tomorrow if you can dodge their “security”).

You’ve now set up a “rape area” comparable to a “smoking area” where those who want to engage in this activity know this is a safer place with less deterrence for their activity… and you’re surprised you have more incidents every day?

Think about it.

** This concludes our daily program of ANALOGY TIME™ tune in tomorrow for another amazing analogy making the incomprehensible understandable even to the willfully clueless.

I have camped out at Talladega Motor Speedway and, while it was quite wild (and I was fairly young) there was none of this kind of garbage.
