Obama: Nancy Pelosi “was one of the best speakers of the House this country ever had”

posted at 9:25 am on October 31, 2011 by Tina Korbe

Well, sure, the president would think so: Nancy Pelosi proved extremely effective at forcing through his agenda. The American people clearly disagreed: In the 2010 midterm elections, they handed Republicans the largest majority they’ve enjoyed in the House since 1946. The loss was the greatest either party experienced since 1938.

Yet, the president remains optimistic that the electorate wants Pelosi to hold the Speaker’s gavel once again. Speaking at a gala of the National Italian American Foundation, Obama not only praised Pelosi as “one of the best speakers of the House this country ever had” — he also predicted she’ll be speaker again in 2013.

He also cheesily attempted to ingratiate himself with Italian Americans:

Obama made several other comments to try and connect with the Italian American audience, lamenting at one point, “I do not, in fact, have any Italian ancestry. Not all of us are that lucky.”

“I can’t cook as well as any of your grandmothers,” he added. “Michelle won’t let me have seconds or thirds anymore.”

“So all I’ve got to offer is a last name that ends in a vowel,” Obama said. “That‘s all I’ve got.”

Gotta love the president’s ability to think highly of himself and his cronies regardless of the facts. It’s inspiring, really. Then, again, it’s probably pretty easy to think you’re someone special when audience members’ first reaction when you begin to speak is to take snapshots of you. Check out the beginning of this video and all the little blue camera screens. Clearly, the crowd likes him. They really and truly like him:

Michelle won’t let him have seconds? Why? She’s eating it all herself.

So that’s why people call her the dumbest?

tarpon on October 31, 2011 at 9:30 AM

If by “best” he means manipulative, ego-driven, control freak, lying and out of touch leadership that Obama himself practices, then I guess I would have to agree with him.

Nancy Pelosi is just another of the “first” failures.

Pelosi – first female Speaker of the House – failure
Reno – first female Attorney General – failure
Albright – first female Secretary of State – failure
Obama – first half-black President – failure

You’d think these libs could find one qualified candidate from their ranks.

iamsaved on October 31, 2011 at 9:37 AM

One has to wonder how the media would react to any other President saying something similar to any other ethnic group…“I can’t cook as well as any of your grandmothers,” he added.”

I can’t take in washin’ like yo mammy…

I can’t do laundry like your mama-san did…

Can’t snort meth like yo cracka momma did.

OK, hyperbole on those, but imagine any other President addressing the same crowd and saying the same.

Not a mention of Italian-American greats…from Joseph Arpaio to Anthony Zinni…no, The One could only recall fat Italian grandma’s cooking pasta.

Not really.

“I can’t cook as well as any of your grandmothers,” he added. “Michelle won’t let me have seconds or thirds anymore.”

I bet the Executive Chef at the WH was just thrilled to hear that one come flying out of B.O’s big mouth.

As far as Michelle cooking, when was the last time she even boiled a pot of water, much less microwaved a bag of popcorn?

pilamaye on October 31, 2011 at 9:40 AM

Given his point of view, this is obvious. She got health care reform passed. She’s on the express track to Democrat sainthood.

Probably why skinny-butt Obama scarfs down hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza, waffles and ice cream whenever he is on the road.

Michele can only prepare Crudité. (That’s raw veggies, to the pedestrian crowd.)

“So all I’ve got to offer is a last name that ends in a vowel,” Obama said. “That‘s all I’ve got.”

The name he is referred to around here ends in a vowel, too. (Starts with “mutha.”)

Wonder what the average income of those in attendance was. $500k? A million? Not your average hard-working middle-class American crowd, now, is it?

John the Libertarian on October 31, 2011 at 10:05 AM

Meh. Unsurprising boilerplate speech. In this one, he just rolls his r’s a little to sound sincere. He could say the same framework of words and plug in any other ethnic group in this one-size-fits-all tribute.

You will note that he did not recognize that great Supreme Court Justice Scalia.

He did not give credit to the mafia’s influence on the Chicago-way of politics, you will note.

Why does the silver-tongued one insist on saying, “We’ve got…” It’s lazy. One other (just one???) verbal habit of his that annoys me is his pronunciation of words ending in “y” as if they ended in “ay”; eg, familay, countray, generositay, etc.

As far as Pelosi goes, she enabled Obama to push through a lot of damaging legislation through her Baltimore-streets political style. She is a dynamo fundraiser for the party, and there are a lot of politicos who “owe” her, and she “owns” them.

there is a laundry list of capitalist-wrecking legislation from the past 200 years. much legislation restricts our freedoms. some laws are unConstitutional.

but damn that Nancy, she passed the most horrendous piece of Congressional legislation ever. Obamacare, if fully implemented, will bring our economy to a standstill.

which Communist said it? that the Americans would surrender to communism without a shot being fired.

I do not recall any president as disconnected from the American people as this one is. It’s painfully obvious he has no regard for what is good for America, just, perhaps, for Amerika.

sadatoni on October 31, 2011 at 10:19 AM

If you are talking in terms of reminding Americans just how liberal the dishonest democrats really are and reminding Americans just how bankrupt liberalism is in terms of ideas, then yes, she was very successful.

Nancy Pelosi was a pro playing against kids. No contest.

rickyricardo on October 31, 2011 at 10:46 AM

If by “best” you mean:

-Most arrogant
-Most condescending
-Most secretive
-Least transparent
-Most willing to shove unwanted legislation that would make the country even more bankrupt than it already is right down the public’s throat when the majority made it abundantly clear that they truly didn’t want it particularly since you intentionally kept it away from the light of public scrutiny (We have to pass it so you can find out what’s in it),

and

-Most willing to gloat publicly by making a fool of herself walking down the national mall holding up that humongous gavel with a s**t-eating grin on her face after it barely passed” Speaker of the House….

…well, then, yes, I guess I’d have to to agree with you, Barry.

Shirotayama on October 31, 2011 at 11:23 AM

What do you expect, Obama to revere people like Thomas Jefferson? It’s obvious that he’d like other Communists.

If increasing our debt by roughly $5 TRILLION while she was speaker is his idea of best… then sure, she’s the best.

Nancy Pelosi is proof that liberal Democrat politicians should not have children…

They cause too much damage to everyone else when they get older…

Khun Joe on October 31, 2011 at 11:44 AM

You mean that Pelosi who totally ignored Obama’s plea to craft some responsble healthcare legislation? That Pelosi who totally ignored Obama to craft a stimulus program that was nothing more than payoffs to Democrat constituents, public and private sector unions, and blue-state pols and created 0 private-sector jobs? Or was it that most successful pol who guaranteed a Pubbie House landslide in 2010; yeah, that must be it.

Well it certainly is nice to know that Michelle relegates her husband to the bottom of the barrel with the rest of us, when it comes to what one is allowed to eat, how much, and when. *sigh*

So she’s allowed to scarf down whatever she wants, whenever she wants, wherever she wants eh? I hear she can really put it away. Paula Deen said so! LOL

“I believe that she will be the best speaker of the house again in 2013.”

http://www.intrade.com/v4/markets/contract/?contractId=639651

For every $2.87 you put down on that bet you can win $10.00 Imagine more than tripling your money when something you believe likely to happen happens.. that is AMAZING odds.

I wonder how much of Obama’s investment money he’s slated to triple in the next year taking this bet?

For even more money:
http://www.intrade.com/v4/markets/contract/?contractId=639652

Tip: Yes, you can sell shares you don’t own!

Sell shared of Republicans taking control at $7. Sure if you lose you’ll owe $10; but you believe that won’t happen. Imagine how rich you can be playing both sides of this bet.

I’m sure Obama is heavily invested in this market. Who wouldn’t triple their money on a sure thing?

The level of contempt I feel for this president and the former Speaker of the House cannot be described.

Unfortunately, the level of contempt I feel for the current Speaker isn’t much better.

Pelosi, sure. I remember her strutting through that crowd of protesting citizens in front of the Capitol, carrying that giant gavel, with that “Bite Me” grin on her botoxed mug. I remember her saying, “We have to pass this law so we can find out what’s in it.”

Sure. We all want San Fran Nan back in a position of power. When pigs grow wings and Hell freezes over.
