Quotes of the day

“Fights are erupting among Occupy Wall Street protesters, so much so that one corner of Zuccotti Park has emerged where protesters say they won’t go for fear of their safety, the New York Daily News is reporting.

“Police officers also have been warned of ‘dangerous instruments’ being concealed in cardboard tubing, the News says it has been told by unidentified police sources.

“‘There is a lot of infighting in the park,’ a police source told the news organization. ‘There is one part of the park where they won’t even go at night.’”

“Around 8 p.m. on Wednesday night, the 300 people who have been occupying the lawn of Los Angeles City Hall for the past three weeks split themselves into two hostile camps.

“Occupy LA’s decision-making body, the General Assembly, has been responsible for conducting the encampment’s business. As in most other cities, the participating members handle everything from ensuring the nightly meeting take place to doing financial research on Los Angeles-based bankers to cleaning up the trash. But on Wednesday, a large group of dissenters decided to occupy the General Assembly’s usual outdoor meeting space and assert themselves as the new regime. One man, standing at the center of the swirling and increasingly unruly crowd, yelled into a megaphone, ‘You don’t represent us anymore! We’re taking over! We’re the People’s Forum!’ Rumblings of dissent and palpable animosity had been mounting in the camp throughout the afternoon. Informal meetings were held around the clock to hotly debate an issue that had factionalized the camp: weed…

“Smoking weed cuts to one of the main dilemmas within a leaderless, horizontal, movement like Occupy Los Angeles: who makes the rules? Who enforces the rules? Going even further: should there even be rules? Is this a narrowly focused social movement bent on economic reform through massive but nonviolent participation? Is it a petri dish of something new? There is a wing of the Occupy LA that sees their encampment as a radical new mode of living; one that not only rejects income inequality, but any sort of action that enables one group to represses any other. This means contempt for anything like a parliamentary up or down vote, or adopting the same drug laws as ‘the outside.’ When someone lights up, especially during daylight hours, there is an instant sense of polarization between those who are willing to behave and those who aren’t. Finally those differences exploded.”

***

“Security group member Brendan Burke, a tall bad-ass looking dude who has been volunteering at the park since the second week, told The New York Observer that there have been ‘three or four’ incidents of sexual assault in Zuccotti Park. But since Security — now working with a group called Community Alliance — deals in mediation and conflict resolution and have no authority to check people’s tents or act as bouncers to the park — they have directed these women to file complaints with the NYPD…

“Maybe it is the cold weather, or the drop in morale from the lack of Internet connection, but the scene down at Zuccotti Park is much grimmer than ones we’ve previously encountered. There seems to be a lot more heated arguments, a lot more panhandlers, and at least 10 guys stop and chat us up about our legs. One of these men, Marcel, is busy yelling about his tent being torn down. ‘They only pay attention to me when I yell,’ he tells us. ‘Where I come from, you’ve got to stand up for yourself, or you get beat.’…

“Leaving Zuccotti Park is not the worst idea we’ve heard: with all the different sub-groups and working committees diverting their efforts to keeping the community warm and safe in their self-made village and the media center down until new generators can be brought in, who will be left to actually protest once the winter snow starts to fall?”

***

“Well now the market crapped out, & even though it has come back somewhat, the government and the average Joes are still looking for a scapegoat. God knows there has to be one for everything. Well, here we are.

“Go ahead and continue to take us down, but you’re only going to hurt yourselves. What’s going to happen when we can’t find jobs on the Street anymore? Guess what: We’re going to take yours. We get up at 5am & work until 10pm or later. We’re used to not getting up to pee when we have a position. We don’t take an hour or more for a lunch break. We don’t demand a union. We don’t retire at 50 with a pension. We eat what we kill, and when the only thing left to eat is on your dinner plates, we’ll eat that…

“So now that we’re going to be making $85k a year without upside, Joe Mainstreet is going to have his revenge, right? Wrong! Guess what: we’re going to stop buying the new 80k car, we aren’t going to leave the 35 percent tip at our business dinners anymore. No more free rides on our backs. We’re going to landscape our own back yards, wash our cars with a garden hose in our driveways. Our money was your money. You spent it. When our money dries up, so does yours.”

***

“Congresswoman DeLauro has introduced the DIAPER Act — that’s to say, the Diaper Investment and Aid to Promote Economic Recovery Act. So don’t worry, it’s not welfare, it’s ‘stimulus.’ As Fox News put it, ‘A U.S. congresswoman in Connecticut wants to boost the economy by offering free diapers to low-income families.’…

“Yes, yes. I’m aware the cost of diapers adds up over a month, and you can’t use your food stamps to pay for them. Tough. This country’s broke. As I said last week, it has to pay back $15 trillion just to get back to having nothing at all. And that’s more money than anyone ever has had to pay back. Were you aware of that? Distressingly large numbers of Americans still pining for ever more swaddling in the government cradle seem entirely unaware.

“Congresswoman DeLauro is thinking too small: Maybe we could all be issued with free diapers. As a casual glance at the headlines suggests, there’s almost nothing you can’t get government to pay for, but that’s no reason not to demand more. At its core, the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement (in the political rather than the diaper-filling sense) is a plea for ever more extended adolescence funded at public expense. Don’t knock it. Dozing around listening to drum circles all day is more dangerous than it looks. Last week, several dozen members of ‘Occupy Las Vegas’ occupying land located under the final approach to Runway 19 at McCarran International Airport narrowly missed being hit by a 50-pound slab of what’s euphemistically known as ‘blue ice’ that fell from the bathroom of the president’s plane. Perhaps, as a symbol of the new post-self-reliant America of adult babies, Air Force One should be fitted with a giant diaper.”

“This movement has shut down that bullsh*t discussion.”

basically, the glorious news that the science was settled by the berkley group was just a smidgen overconfident.

i guess we better get used to the snows.

Democrat Lawmaker Proposes DIAPER Act

– Will Force Government to Subsidize Diapers (Video)
Saturday, October 29, 2011, 11:15 AM
*************************************

Far left Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D.-Conn.) wants government to subsidize diapers.
Human Events reported:

An economic recovery bill authored by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D.-Conn.) seeks to empower struggling families by directing the federal government to distribute free diapers through day care centers.

The Diaper Investment and Aid to Promote Economic Recovery Act (DIAPER Act) would “relieve some of the stress on families facing hardship in this economy” by providing this direct service, DeLauro said in a letter to congressional colleagues urging them to co-sponsor her bill.

Without diapers, children are not allowed to attend day care, said DeLauro, who described those in need as a “lost generation of Americans.”

Check out Pelosi’s answer to the question

of if she thought

“it’s right that Boeing has to close down that plant in South Carolina because it’s non-union.” Her answer is a disturbing display of the Democrats’ attitude toward job creation, especially since Obama’s National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) could cost 1,000 people their jobs in South Carolina.

Mitt Romney’s questionable political bedfellows:
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1011/67110.html

Yes, I know. The link comes from Politico. The fact is, though, the article tends to make excuses or rationalize Romney’s past and current behavior as if any criticisms against him are purely politically motivated by fellow contenders in his party. Politico appears to be in the tank on behalf of Romney.

How long before they come out with the OWS Reality Show. Could be a good way to earn some real proceeds. If they went corporate, trademarked their name, could bring them a lot of revenue.

Wednesday, a large group of dissenters decided to occupy the General Assembly’s usual outdoor meeting space and assert themselves as the new regime. One man, standing at the center of the swirling and increasingly unruly crowd, yelled into a megaphone, ‘You don’t represent us anymore! We’re taking over! We’re the People’s Forum!’

This is cherry! So they’ve already had a coup? Yeah, they need a strong man to emerge. A strong leader willing ready and willing to take control. Maybe he could form his own little special guard. They could carry big sticks and all wear the same hoodies and mittens. He should have the biggest tent, of course. Just to show who is boss.

I thought maybe it would be nice if we could wall them in.. but now I’m wondering how long before they build a wall around themselves complete with checkpoints… monitoring who comes and goes. It would be a good way for them to control the message and further entrench themselves in their parks. Seriously…. at some point I am wondering whether one of these groups puts up barriers around themselves and establish gates of some sort. It would be the natural evolution of it all.. if the snow doesn’t drive these few hundred back to their parent’s house.

At first the ows only wanted jobs and free tuition now they’re talking about ‘taking’ our jobs, money, houses, cars, etc. because they want to be just like us in a role reversal kinda way. Is this the new premise behind their ‘demands’? Seems as if they are deranged to want the very thing they despise. They couldn’t do our jobs, handle the money or maintain the houses and cars we have. Look at the way they are living in the filth and squalor of these camps. These people are not new to the scene. They have always been with us through out history. It’s just that now we have them in our living rooms on the screen.

Kissmygrits on October 30, 2011 at 9:47 AM

…because they want to be just like us…

Well, if they steal from us then they are not like us. Since we went out and earned it.

I grew up in absolute poverty out in the country until about 6th grade. My parents were divorced and my mom had some real issues and she was the one I lived with until then. We had to be the poorest people in the small country town we lived in. Across the road had to be literally, the richest people in that community. Their house looked like the Disney Castle. Our house looked like a dilapidated barn.. one step up above the barn next to our house. There were times we never even had electricity. It was a hard life.. but for all my mom’s faults and our poor conditions, none of us ever once thought we’d be better off tearing down our rich neighbor’s home. Nor did we ever once think we were poor because they were rich. In fact, my memory of that family was that they were often very kind to us.

My dad rescued me when I turned 12 and my conditions improved tremendously. I went on to get two college degrees and after college I went into the army… because they paid back the majority of my college loans! It was the reverse GI bill. Instead of giving me college money, for every year I was in they paid off one third of my loan. I didn’t go out and protest! I didn’t expect someone else to pay off my loans! I didn’t have a job lined up when I graduated so I did what I had to do .. I joined the Army!

Over my many years I have worked for a moving company, worked as a cook, sold cars, done construction, worked over 17 years in social services (until I resigned out of disgust!), substituted in the schools, taught art part time… done all kinds of things and anything I could because I had to. I am presently in commercial painting and work another 40 hours or more in the evenings on my art. We own a nice home in a good middle class neighborhood. My wife put herself through college too! We both have always done what I had to do just like the majority of Americans still do!

So when I see this bunch of whiny college 20 year olds whine and complain about how hard life is it makes me want to puke! They know nothing of life because they haven’t even lived it yet! They are ready to quit and tear down the entire country because at 23 they can’t find a job and after partying and living off of others during their college lives they now suddenly are required to put for effort! So instead of doing that, they’d rather just demand that those who have gone out and done it.. who have put forth the effort and earned a little or a lot of wealth… that it all be taken from them and handed over!

I’ll tell you what needs to be done here..
Half of this mob should go to jail.. the other half should be spanked in the public square and sent back home to their parents and made to go out and find a job! They should also be made to send apology letters to the communities they have occupied! They are nothing but spoiled little brats! They can’t even feed themselves and if it wasn’t for the donations of others they would starve and freeze! But that is how it’s been all their lives… living off of others.. and that’s how they want it to continue… living off of others!

“We are the General Assembly Forum of OWS-LA” says one.

“We are the People’s Forum of OWS-LA” says the other.

Soon it will be:
“We are the Forum of People at OWS-LA”
“We are the OWS-LA General Forum Assembly”
“We are the MJ Transgender Assembly of OWS-LA, the true spirit of OWS!”

Get any group of Leftists together for any period of time greater than one week and you will, reliably, get at least two factions.

Followed by 2-3 splinter groups within such factions to distinguish the ‘true believers’ from the ‘sellouts’.

Most usually think this happens AFTER the fighting is over but with Leftists it is an odds-on favorite that it happpens even before the system collapses. Yes Bill Ayers is warning us of next May… they will be ‘building’ on OWS! Apparently Bill only remembers the blood spattered parts of the ’60s and early ’70s, and forgot the factionalization within the ‘movement’. Poor guy, he forgot his own history and is now dooming us all to repeat it with him… so smart as to be nuts.
