Rep. Joe Walsh to Eric Holder: You better resign immediately, buddy

posted at 7:58 pm on October 26, 2011 by Tina Korbe

It was faint at first, but it grows ever louder, this cry for Attorney General Eric Holder to resign. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) today became the fourth Congressman to explicitly call for Holder to take responsibility for the lethally reckless Operation Fast and Furious and to voluntarily leave his post because of his presumed authorization of the program. Walsh’s behest follows similar requests from Reps. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho), Blake Farenthold (R-Tex.) and  Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.).

Walsh today sent a harshly-worded letter to Holder, in which he asked Holder to “resign immediately and issue an apology to the American people [he has] failed to serve.” Walsh also took Holder to task for his stonewalling of the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into Fast and Furious.

But the most memorable portion of the letter came, not at the beginning, when Walsh lambasted Holder’s understanding of his job, nor at the end, when he called for Holder’s resignation. It came in the middle, when Walsh delved into the seemingly-obvious-but-not-yet-confirmed motivation for the program:

Your Department has made an enormous error in judgment. It instructed federally-licensed firearms dealers to illegally sell at least 2,000 guns that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) intended to be trafficked to drug cartels in Mexico. The results of this error in judgment have implicated the United States in well over one hundred deadly crimes and the deaths of two federal agents.

This not only raises serious questions about your ability to serve as the head of the Justice Department, but also begs the question of why an anti-gun Administration would knowingly force licensed firearms dealers to sell guns to violent criminals. I raise this because Operation Fast and Furious — if the facts of this case had not come to light — would have been used by this Administration as another false argument to attack law-abiding American gun owners.

The American people deserve to know if your Department had any intent to link the legal purchase of firearms here in the U.S. to crimes committed near our southern border. Operation Fast and Furious funneled firearms legally purchased at gun shops in the U.S. to known criminal syndicates to prove these syndicates have access to legal purchased weapons. This is a deliberate attempt to vilify and attack the millions of gun owners in America who value our Second Amendment and have never broken the law.

Walsh’s posited explanation appears to be the only plausible one. Why else would the administration authorize the program — then fail to follow up to catch the criminals the program was purportedly designed to catch? Had ATF made any kind of legitimate attempt to track the weapons — had they not allowed the guns to so completely disappear into the hands of violent criminals — it might have been believable that the administration sought to use the program to disrupt the power of Mexican drug cartels.

Yet, Walsh’s explanation is not a fun one to believe. It’s sickening to think anyone in the administration would really be so rash and so ideologically driven as to risk the nearly inevitable results of this program — the deaths that did, in fact, result — just to prove the point that legally purchased weapons show up at violent crime scenes, just to suggest the government ought to make it harder to legally purchase guns in the first place. It’s even more terrifying to think someone as high up as Holder would be.

Walsh and the rest are brave to call for Holder’s resignation — but they definitely should. Walsh isn’t afraid to take the matter to the president, either.

“If [Holder] fails to [resign], I would ask that President Obama dismiss him immediately,” Walsh said today.

Then again, Obama has stood by Holder through all kinds of nonsense, so no real reason exists to believe he won’t stand by him now — unless F&F somehow becomes well-known enough to threaten his reelection.

Obama will stand behind Holder because Obama was the author. No AG would be that ballsy to violate international law without the expressed approval of his boss. Obama should not be re-elected he should be impeached. I trust that if he is reelected, he will be impeached when the GOP house and senate presecute this criminal administration.

Then again, Obama has stood by Holder through all kinds of nonsense, so no real reason exists to believe he won’t stand by him now — unless F&F somehow becomes well-known enough to threaten his reelection.

That pre-supposes a media willing to stand on integrity and actually hold this administration’s feet to the fire. Not gonna happen.

The MFM will do everything in its power (which, unfortunately, is still substantial) to cover this up. Even the incessant drum beating by blogs like Hotair and PJMedia are not going to be picked up. Until we see more coverage in the legacy media than the L.A. Times and CBS, this is ultimately going nowhere.

Why is it “sickening”? They’re LEFTISTS. This is what leftists do. They lie, they cheat, they steal. And, apparently, act as accessories to murder in order to achieve their political ends. ‘Course, ol’ Uncle Joe Stalin and Vladimir Ilyich could teach this gang a thing or two about that.

Adolf Obama and EricKKK Holder are guilty of the mass murder of hundreds of Mexican citizens. They should both be extradited to Mexico to stand trial and just thank their lucky stars that Mexico doesn’t have the death penalty.

It is sickening, and it is happening. I’m not sure how long you’ve been alive, Tina, or what your life experiences are but never think that something isn’t possible.

Contemplate how an entire country thought killing every Jew was a great idea, when less than a decade earlier it wasn’t even a topic. I mean, the Arabs have talked about that for centuries yet not every Muslim believes that. Germans, however,….well…..it defies explanation. A handful or a couple hundred ranting about the Jews? Sure. Millions?

Another example is Yugoslavia. Just a decade after the Olympics were held there, they went at each other with a vengeance. And still are. Unexplainable.

As far as ugly activity to achieve a goal, this is pretty tame compared to other events in history.

What is “sickening” is the fact that we have an America-hating buffoon committing felonies while holding one of the nation’s highest offices, and getting away with it for over two years with little resistance from Congress.

Joe Walsh doesn’t go far enough, sadly. He should call for a grand jury to convene with the goal of issuing an indictment and having Holder led away from his office in cuffs.

Well get out your barf bag and put your fingers down your throat because that is exactly what happened. And to not understand that it went all the way up to Holder AND OBAMA is delusional. The very idea that a bunch of way down government employes staged some kind of widespread shadow government operation like in some B grade science fiction movie is ludicrous.

Anyone who has ever worked for the Federal government for any significant period of time knows, unless they took a lot of naps at work, that it is not a bottom up organism, but rather a top down organism. New programs come from the top and are merely implemented by the underlings. This program has to be much worse than we know for several agents to have come forward to serve as whistle blowers. These agents have jeopardized their careers and pensions to tell us the truth. A program of this magnitude was conjured up by someone at or near the top. One can be certain beyond shadow of doubt that it’s final approval came from the very top.

Tina, this administration has been driven ideologically from Day One when Obama was “ready to rule.”

Because you would not do something like this doesn’t mean others would not. There is no reason to give this administration the benefit of the doubt. This is SOP for Obama & his gangster government.

Evil exists.

This whole FF thing is getting legs, yet Obama needs Holder for all the chicanery they have planned for November 2012. Yet, this isn’t about sperm on a blue dress, but blood on uniforms and on the street. Issa did a number today on Big Sis that was, to be kind, devastating. The noose tightens.

TXUS on October 26, 2011 at 9:20 PM

I applaude Cong. Walsh’s stand, but think he could have avoided the use of the phrase “legally purchased weapons” since many of the transfers (sales) were made to otherwise disqualified buyers at the direct behest of the ATF.

When you transfer (sell) several dozen (or more) firearms in a single transaction to a convicted drug trafficker at the direction of the ATF, that is not a “legal” sale, as anyone with a felony conviction is permanently barred (absent a President’s and/or Governor’s Pardon) the possession, and use, of firearms under the laws of the United States, and every State that I know of.

The DoJ/ATF/DEA/FBI/and others, conspired to avoid the laws of the United States, and of the several States, to perpetrate a scheme to what purpose:
To show that Mexican Cartels were armed with weapons purchased at U.S. gun-shops?

Well, Yes! Mexican Army deserters bring with them the weapons they were issued by the Mexican Government, weapons that that Government purchased to a large degree from the Department of Defense in DC, and whose export was licensed by the Department of State to the Mexican Government.

But why would a cartel purchase in small batches in the USA, semi-automatic versions of weapons that they could purchase from South and Central American arms dealers in their full-auto (selective-fire) military configuration for one-tenth the unit cost?

It doesn’t pass the laugh test when the economics are looked at.

Impeach Obama!

Chessplayer on October 26, 2011 at 9:34 PM

Impeachment would be a symbolic victory at best (without a prayer of getting a conviction, and removal from office, in the Senate), but it is even better to use this as a cudgel to beat his re-election campaign about the head and shoulders with.
After he’s out of office, a Special Prosecutor can deal with it.
Plus, when the Mexican Government files an indictment and a request for extradition, he’s going to have to sell a lot of those books to pay the legal bills.

Another Drew on October 26, 2011 at 9:40 PM

I will call the Congressman’s office tomorrow and thank him for writing a great letter. We all should do the same. Let him know that there are many behind him. What is liberals’ evidence that there will be more rapes and murders if Obama’s jobs bill doesn’t pass? Biden claims that, without it, there won’t be enough cops to interrupt a woman being raped in her own home – which would be an amazing bit of police work/psychic talent, if it had ever happened. Do we really want Holder to resign? I’d rather have him sitting in front of a congressional panel explaining day after day in camera what the hell he was doing, and see if this leads back to Obama.

William Teach on October 26, 2011 at 10:33 PM

It’s sickening to think anyone in the administration would really be so rash and so ideologically driven as to risk the nearly inevitable results of this program — the deaths that did, in fact, result — just to prove the point that legally purchased weapons show up at violent crime scenes, just to suggest the government ought to make it harder to legally purchase guns in the first place.

Is anyone surprised that’s what Obama was doing? Really? I call it a “blinding flash of the obvious.” I don’t want Holder to resign. He lied to Congress, I want him to go to jail.

Do we really want Holder to resign?

You have a point. I’d rather see this POS…this AA turd…this criminal, lying scumbag, this chicago thug…this bastard…armed with an “illegal” AK47 or M15
that a Border Agent didn’t have to defend himself.

I want…no we should demand that holder…..this racist bastard be jailed as a murderer. Why does this POS get a pass? That’s what’s wrong with America…that these “superior” thugs…criminals get a pass cause of their title?

Twana on October 26, 2011 at 10:42 PM

Walsh’s posited explanation appears to be the only plausible one.

Sorry Tina, but I beg to differ. The gun control angle is plausible, and sickening, but is certainly isn’t the only plausible explanation. In fact, there are several reasons to believe it isn’t even the primary motivation for this operation.

The gun control agenda is massively unpopular, as noted in another story here at Hot Air today. Proposing further restrictions carries equally massive political risks for Obama and the Democrats. They have run incredible risks, essentially engaging multiple federal law enforcement agencies and cabinet level departments in a massive criminal conspiracy to violate the laws of the US and Mexico and international arms treaties, and committed acts that they knew would have deadly consequences. It simply beggars belief that Obama and the Democrats would take these risks just to advance a political agenda that would likely prove terribly damaging at the polls.

Virtually all these weapons were directed to the Sinaloa Cartel. If the object was simply to make it appear that US sourced weapons were feeding cartel violence in Mexico, wouldn’t it be better if all the cartels were using US sourced weapons? Why are all the weapons being directed to a single cartel?

The Sinaloa Cartel is engaged in a bloody war with Los Zetas. Los Zetas is widely considered the most violent and dangerous of the cartels, originated as an enforcement arm of the Gulf Cartel. Many of its original members are former Mexican special forces, some of whom were trained in anti-drug trafficking strategies and tactics at Fort Benning, Georgia. Los Zetras is involved in all manner of criminal violence, including kidnappings and extortion, and assassinations for hire. Los Zetas pose an existential threat to the Mexican government, and as we have seen recently with the attempt by Iranian actors to hire them to assassinate the Saudi ambassador on American soil, are probably involved with international terrorists as well.

In federal custody is Jesus Vicente Zambada Niebla, the son of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada Garcia, one of the leaders of the Sinaloas. He claims there was a deal between the DOJ, the FBI and the DEA and the Sinaloas that gave them protection in return for intelligence on Los Zetas, among other things. His attorneys are attempting to force the feds to divulge details of the deal, but the DOJ has denied it and refuses to produce the requested documents. (Sound familiar?)

A proxy war fought against Los Zetas using the Sinaloas could well be seen as justifying the incredible risks taken, and far more likely than pursuit of a highly unpopular gun control agenda that might well backfire electorally.

Arming the Sinaloas directly would have its own risks. International arms treaties have robust enforcement regimes, making the transfer of military issue weapons virtually impossible. The CIA could buy black market weapons ans supply t he Sinaloas, but the purchase of more than 2,000 weapons on the black market would not go unnoticed, and the probability that such an operation would be exposed approaches certainty. But by using criminals to do the actual purchases and transfers of the weapons would and does provide multiple levels of cover to whomever is behind this operation. It also creates legal impediments to their prosecution, and creates an excuse to use federal law enforcement resources.

It is just too big to be a purely domestic political ploy. Someone is arming the Sinaloas for a proxy war against Los Zetas. The gun control angle was intended as cover if the op was exposed, and gravy if it wasn’t.

Holder should be in jail. Obama should be impeached.

And I am betting this “amnesty” for drug cartel members is connected to F/F.

Joe Walsh: Walk away

Knott Buyinit on October 26, 2011 at 9:10 PM

Heads-Up-Joe just started a solo tour a couple of weeks ago. Go to youtube and type “Joe Walsh” into the Search, and then click “Upload Date” in the options. Some great stuff has been showing up so far.

Joe also fades in and out on the ham radio bands on occasion-WB6ACU

The two Chicago rags have been trying their best to smear Walsh in any way possible. Proof positive of who the far leftists fear the most. We know this because the left’s constant, fevered, overwrought attacks tell us so.

MayorDaley on October 26, 2011 at 11:35 PM

No, I do not want Holder to resign. I want he and his boss to pay for this and pay a very high price.
Those two hypocrites need to know that the race angle will not work to excuse this and no matter who they THINK they are the reality is they work for us.

Has Rep. Walsh paid his child support yet? I remember reading that he owed his kids more than a 100 grand but used their money for his campaign.

How about we apply the “Pelosi” technique to the Holder problem. Let’s put him in jail first and then find out what he did wrong! It worked for Obamacare!

inspectorudy on October 27, 2011 at 12:29 AM

If Holder resigns or is dismissed by Obama, he’ll just head over to Fannie or some other quasi-government agency and grab that multi-million dollar payoff.

Jamie Gorelick redux.

Extradite him to Mexico, that’s how the system works there.

Another Drew on October 27, 2011 at 3:03 AM

Then again, Obama has stood by Holder through all kinds of nonsense, so no real reason exists to believe he won’t stand by him now — unless F&F somehow becomes well-known enough to threaten his reelection.

This might do it.
Whats needed is for Mexico AG Marisela Morales to issue extrication papers for E. Holder

DSchoen on October 27, 2011 at 3:22 AM

Obama will stand behind Holder because Obama was the author. No AG would be that ballsy to violate international law without the expressed approval of his boss. Obama should not be re-elected he should be impeached. I trust that if he is reelected, he will be impeached when the GOP house and senate prosecute this criminal administration.

Zelsdorf Ragshaft on October 26, 2011 at 8:17 PM

That sums it up. He can avoid impeachment by losing re-election. Otherwise, he’ll be held accountable.

We must let Mexico deliver the justice these rats deserve. They have literally ravaged Mexico.

Not to belittle our losses, we deserve justice too. But let them rot in a fetid sewer for 50 or 60 years before they end their lives in the luxury of an American prison.

Business before pleasure.

TROLL

IowaWoman on October 27, 2011 at 5:24 AM

This is what Obama meant when he told the antis his administration was working on it “under the radar”.

I have no doubt about their motive, and have said so from the beginning. Glad to see someone in Washington is finally putting it together.
