Looks like Villaraigosa will be the next Democratic mayor to send cops after occupiers

posted at 9:52 pm on October 26, 2011 by Allahpundit

Kasim Reed in Atlanta, Jean Quan in Oakland, now this guy. Time for a pool: Which left-wing up-and-comer will be next to deploy city police against the tip of the 99-percent’s spear?

And don’t bother saying “Rahm.” I’ve already got my money on him.

“I respect the protesters’ right to peacefully assemble and express their views,” Villaraigosa said. “City officials have been in a continuous and open dialogue with the organizers of Occupy L.A. However, the protesters must respect city laws and regulations, and while they have been allowed to camp on City Hall lawns, that cannot continue indefinitely.”…

In an interview Wednesday, the mayor said county health inspectors recently visited the encampment and expressed concerns over the cleanliness of the camp. In addition, the demonstration is hurting the city’s lawn and trees…

Meanwhile, about a dozen protesters showed up at Wednesday’s City Council meeting to ask lawmakers to allow them to stay. Protester Alex Everett, 26, said he came because he was alarmed by Councilman Bill Rosendahl’s comments to KABC that it was time for protesters “to move on.”

Everett, who moved out of his house and into a tent outside of City Hall two weeks ago, said he thinks many protesters would not leave without a fight. He said if police move in to clear out the protest, like Oakland police did Tuesday, “it will be violent.”

Villaraigosa wants city officials to draft new restrictions on park use — even though, according to the Times, current law already bars people from camping in parks after 10:30 p.m. I assume that he’s looking for as much legal cover as possible, even to the point of redundancy, before he moves in simply because he knows how ugly things are likely to get. With good reason, per the boldfaced part above. Why not adopt Mike Bloomberg’s tough, smart, savvy approach of letting the protesters ignore the rules instead?

Jeff Emanuel at Red State has started compiling a list of the “Occupy” movement’s greatest hits, but I think things are about to become a lot more civil and mellow. An honest-to-goodness Friend of Barack has stepped up to offer guidance to the protesters; here he is in action in Chicago, via Rebelpundit. With his steadying hand on the wheel of the movement, calmer days must surely be ahead.

Jeff Emanuel at Red State has started compiling a list of the “Occupy” movement’s greatest hits, but I think things are about to become a lot more civil and mellow.

Mellow? I’d say frosty, as in Frosty the Snowman. Rain in the mid-Atlantic tomorrow, with temps dropping into the 30s at night. Saturday a nor’easter is predicted, and Saturday night, “chance of snow flurries.”

One is reminded of the apocryphal story about the Russian being asked by a foreign diplomat how they would stop Napoleon’s approaching army. The Russian replied that they were not worried as the two greatest Russian generals would stop him. “Which generals are those?” asked the diplomat. “General January and General February.”

Never let a crisis go to waste.

I am sure that somewhere within the White House, perhaps over at the EOB, there is a red team/blue team exercise ongoing looking at options for some sort of major civil disturbance that will require, perhaps demand, that President Obama start ruling by Executive Orders alone, bypassing Congress, and setting up for what may in 2012 be the “big one” wherein habeas corpus is suspended (Lincoln did it, why not?) and civil liberties of any and all who oppose Obama are wholesale suspended.

For the record San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee sent the Police to dismantle the Occupy SF encampment back on October 7th.

Occupy SF returned and I believe there was at least one more removal of their camping gear before they returned again, but San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee should get credit for trying to enforce the law.

Does anybody know of a similar Police action before October 7?

Or was San Francisco the FIRST city to have the Police remove an “Occupy” camp?

Protesters with the group Occupy SF said about 80 officers wearing riot helmets confronted 200 campers and their supporters at about 12:45 a.m. The officers guarded city workers who removed tents, lean-tos, sleeping bags and other belongings from outside the Federal Reserve Bank building at 101 Market St. near Main Street.

On a crazy wild hunch I Googled “Alex Everett+anarchist”. Bingo, dateline October 6th.

A self-proclaimed anarchist named Alex Everett feels that even though there are a lot of problems, people aren’t united enough to help each other out.

“There’s a lot of things wrong with the world right now… more young people than there should be are just dead poor right now, and you can’t throw them under the bus or they’ll revolt,” Everett said.

The largest problem with America, according to Everett, is that “we don’t talk to each other,” emphasizing there needs to be a national dialogue among people and that by discussing these issues around the world and learning from one another, real change can occur.

When you have left wing activists on both sides of the line, you are guaranteed to get what ever it is that the left wing agitators want.

Since it appears that the left wing protesters want a confrontation with the police, and since it is as common tactic to attempt to provoke the police into an over reaction, and since so many left wing agitators are hoping for another ‘Kent State Event’, you can be certain that is what we’re gonna get.

The left wing administrators in charge of the police will almost certainly put that thin blue line into an impossible position.

Somebody will get hurt, and that will be the justification that Obama needs. This is all a set up, and Obama is fueling the conflagration.

Occupy Oakland returned to Frank Ogawa Plaza tonight for their regular General Assembly meeting.

The protesters sat in a circle in the amphitheater in front of City Hall this evening to hold their general assembly meeting, as they did every night when the Oakland encampment occupied the plaza.

“This is the most inspiring point of my life. Never in my life have I felt that change is so close in this country,” said a protester who identified himself as Ethan, a speaker at the meeting.

Protesters at the meeting announced that “Occupy Wall Street” — the protest that inspired “Occupy Oakland” — donated $20,000 to the Oakland demonstration.

Some protesters climbed over the surrounding fence to join the meeting but were met with jeers from the crowd who were hoping to avoid confrontations with police.

neoavatara on October 26, 2011 at 9:57 PM

Okay. Time for the tinfoil hat.

What if this is all a coordinated campaign to get Bloomberg to commit to cleaning up OWS? And when the cops move in, the inmates go absolutely apesh*t in response. With the resultant bloodbath making headlines worldwide.

Nobody’ll give a damn that Bloomberg is just about the squishiest R in the country (even over Romney). He’ll get hung in effigy, along with the rest of the real conservative movement (and especially the Tea Party). It would be a classic setup.

I’d be reaaaaaaalllllly curious if there have been calls from these other mayors to Mayor Mike, begging him to go after OWS, because that crowd is the “true source” of the trouble makers. OWS is where it originated, so they’re the group that really needs to be taken down. In the meantime, back-channel communication between the various groups on the ground are laying the foundation for a rip snorting riot in NYC.

/tinfoil

I don’t really believe this, but it’d sure make for a fun thriller. ;-)
