Obamateurism of the Day
posted at 8:05 am on October 25, 2011 by Ed Morrissey
Barack Obama on his economic policy, 10/17/11:
“I guarantee it’s going to be a close election [in 2012] because the economy is not where it wants to be and, even though I believe all the choices we’ve made have been the right ones, we’re still going through difficult circumstances.”
Barack Obama’s economic adviser Austan Goolsbee, 10/20/11:
Former Obama administration economic adviser Austan Goolsbee said Thursday that if given a second chance he would not have backed the Cash for Clunkers program or the home buyer tax credit passed in 2009 to stave off further economic distress.
“Because we didn’t know if [economic recovery was] going to be short or long,” the Obama administration tried measures to address both scenarios, Goolsbee explained on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“If you look at Cash for Clunkers or the first home buyer tax credit, they were geared to trying to shift [recovery] from 2010 into 2009. Given it’s taken this long [to recover], I don’t think you would do that short-run stuff,” Goolsbee added.
Here’s a question. Does Obama ever listen to the advice and analysis of his own advisers?

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

President Obama is so tuned to the voices inside his own head to the exclusion of everything else that he wouldn’t hear farts at a baked bean eating contest.

Considering sound economic advice and choosing to make expedient policy decisions that cater only to segments of the population that will pay re-election dividends is SOP in this administration. This one was a “no-brainer” for Obama.

Adviser advice for God?
Mmmmmm, no

Well, advisors aren’t as smart as he is…no one is..just ask him.

It sounds like the job of an ØBlama adviser is to cheerlead and applaud rather than dispute and discuss. I remember that Ø hadn’t spoken to most of his cabinet since installing them and that they were rather frustrated by it. They really don’t know how lucky they were to escape the scathing ØBlama wit, as in: “I didn’t know you were the spokesman for Mitt Romney.” Smart Power!
.
And as for a second chance for Austan… no thank you, he was a feckless adviser for a longer duration than can be justified for a second trip to the trough.
ExpressoBold on October 25, 2011 at 8:59 AM
It is beneath him. Advisors are window dressing.

Why should “the smartest man in the room” listen to his inferiors. King Canute recognized as a mere mortal that he couldn’t roll back the tide. But The Whine is so much more awesomerer that he can get the sea levels to fall.

What a strange way to express that thought, but I think it’s totally in keeping with Obama’s inability to accept responsibility for his failures. The economy doesn’t “want” to be anywhere. It’s manipulated by those with the power to do so. But the man with the most power chooses to see it as an independant actor, thus he remains free from blame.

Austan: Mr.President, these tricks might work for the short term, but I don’t think…
Obama: Austan!!! I WON!!!

Adviser to Obama “That sure is a nice Peace Prize.”

The One reminds me (in ONLY this way) of Henry Winkler’s character, “The Fonz”, in the scene starting at 1:47 in this 2+ minute clip of catchphrases from Happy Days.

The economy is where you put it. It’s where Bush allowed it to be put, too, but he didn’t let it get driven this far into the ditch. The CRA, Dodd-Frank, and ream after ream of job-killing, business-killing regulation have kept the economy from being where it wants to be.
To see just a sample of what his government is doing to you every day, check out the Federal Register, the self-described Daily Journal of the U.S. Government. To get a glimmer of the immense scope of activity, the lion’s share of which is extra-constitutional, conducted by the bloated beast of Washington, D. C., click the green banner below the header labelled “Current Issue”. Check out the navigation pane on the right side for the number of pages of new notices in each agency/department. Then click on any different day in the calendar above those, and you’ll see that the notices on display down the right side are for A SINGLE DAY.
The socialism is coming at us faster than anyone could wish to keep up with. More than 150 pages of new issues almost every work day, most of it new regulations or plans for regulations. Most of it harming jobs or the chance to create jobs.
This, and many more reasons from the Resident, is why the economy isn’t “where it wants to be”.

Why should he? He knows EVERYTHING.
GarandFan on October 25, 2011 at 11:30 AM
The short answer is NO.
If you look at the daily briefings that usually occure at the beginning of his daily schedule, the time for them is very short if they occur at all. Its hard to imagin how a president could get everything he needs to know on world and domestic developements in such a short time, unless there is very little or nothing of either. My bet is the briefing is simply on the sports and polls that he is interested in, and what has been arranged for him to do that day.
Rumor has it that they gave up on briefing him on the economy long ago. It is not hard to concieve why they would give up on trying. You are not going to get very far telling a narcissist bad news he does not want to hear. As he has said he sees it, someone else or situatation caused the problem, and Congress is responsible to fix it, not him.
There was a picture recently released that shows Obama in his new DarthVader bus sitting at a table, a single news paper next to him, looking very bored. This is a picture of Obama working hard on how to solve the problem of jobs and the economy.

This ^^^^ is his adviser on all things, the rest are window dressing and go-fors. To our demise he does listen to his adviser. She is pleased with the Progess(ive) so far.
