Does anybody get poor in a vacuum, that is without anybody else pushing them down? I say yes more than no. Agreed somebody needs to be there to foreclose on the home. But the person being foreclosed upon is, in the end, solely responsible for making a damn fool bad decision. Most people on permanent welfare are poor simply because they made it their job to profit from being poor. That certainly applies to all the able bodied and minded poor. If they lack education that’s their own fault not mine or anybody else’s. Libraries exist. They could visit and start reading to educate themselves in any “spare time” they may have. Many a great man in our history has been educated this way.

So while the very wealthy do not get rich in a vacuum, since they pull others up with them, the poor get poor mostly on their own initiative or rather lack of it.
