Occupy LA: “The bourgeoisie won’t go without violent means”

posted at 9:25 am on October 12, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Last week, I wrote that leftist populist uprisings always start with talk about justice, but always end up demanding redistribution — and the guillotine.  Zombie and Ringo at Pajamas Media gets a great example of this at the Occupy LA protest, where a speaker scoffed at the notion of change through non-violent protests.  Calling Mahatma Gandhi a “tumor” that the rich use to keep the 99% down, this philosopher instead prefers the “bloody” French Revolution.  The fun starts at about thirty seconds in:

One of the speakers said the solution is nonviolent movement. No, my friend. I’ll give you two examples: French Revolution, and Indian so-called Revolution.

Gandhi, Gandhi today is, with respect to all of you, Gandhi today is a tumor that the ruling class is using constantly to mislead us. French Revolution made fundamental transformation. But it was bloody.

India, the result of Gandhi, is 600 million people living in maximum poverty.

So, ultimately, the bourgeoisie won’t go without violent means. Revolution! Yes, revolution that is led by the working class.

Long live revolution! Long live socialism!

I’ve been to a few Tea Party events and don’t recall anyone on stage advocating the “bloody” overthrow of the United States.  I have seen on occasions people carrying signs with the famous Thomas Jefferson quote from 1787, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.  It is its natural manure.”  The media usually uses those images to paint Tea Party activists as an angry, violent mob.

With that in mind, I’m sensitive to taking things out of context, but that hardly seems to be the case with this clip.  This person appears to be a leader of the protest, as he has the microphone without wrestling it from the man holding it.   At least one previous speaker must have spoken about the virtues of nonviolent protest, but this rebuttal gets quite a few cheers, too.  Perhaps subsequent speakers scolded this man and a show of jazz hands exiled him from the Occupy Movement, but somehow I think he captures the true intent of this movement.

Every day, videos emerge from the OWS movement showing people saying things that, if they had been said by a Tea Partier, would have been front-page news for months and discredited the movement forever. But since it’s the Occupy Wall Street movement – favorites of the media and Democratic politicians – they are embraced.

When Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn led the domestic terrorist group Weather Underground in 1969, a chance meeting led Army veteran Larry Grathwohl into joining the group. Grathwohl served as a courier, running messages between the group’s leadership (called the “Weather Bureau”) and individual cells that were to carry out attacks.

Grathwohl was also an informant for the FBI.

In an interview from the 1982 documentary No Place To Hide that recently surfaced, Grathwohl discussed what the Weathermen intended to do after overthrowing the U.S. government, including what they would do with those Americans who refused to embrace communism.

I asked, “Well what is going to happen to those people we can’t reeducate, that are diehard capitalists?” And the reply was that they’d have to be eliminated.

And when I pursued this further, they estimated they would have to eliminate 25 million people in these reeducation centers.

And when I say “eliminate,” I mean “kill.”

Twenty-five million people.

I want you to imagine sitting in a room with 25 people, most of which have graduate degrees, from Columbia and other well-known educational centers, and hear them figuring out the logistics for the elimination of 25 million people.
And they were dead serious.

Violence will surely come to the streets of large cities across our nation as these people run out of options to obtain their goals. Union thugs and mindless people will be the brown shirts and vandalism and torching cars will be their start-up plan. In the end, we can only hope that cars and minor vandalism will be the only things hurt. It will be interesting to see how the police will react to all of this following what we all witnessed in Wisconsin.

Wake up people & take back this country as the founders did, and restore a government of for & by the people! mankai on October 12, 2011 at 10:07 AM

So many lost sheep that have gone astray…..

So far, the some times incoherent message coming from the protesters, (embraced & endorsed by Obama and the Democrats), is that they are entitled to their fair share from the folks who have worked hard all their lives, invested their earnings in a free market system with the expectations of at least receiving a return on their investments. This is a principle used in American commerce since the creation of this nation. (Only our federal politicians receive a guaranteed lifetime pension and health plan that has also become an entitlement with a minimum of two years service—quite a return for so little invested)

Perhaps if most of these protesters had a sense of direction, they might channel their frustrations on their liberal political leaders that have promised them the fantasy of entitlement without individual responsibility of payment for services rendered—the “spend now, tax and pay later” mentality liberal progressives have embraced for decades.

Lost and shepardless……….

The angry left isn’t just nostalgic for Vietnam era protests; they’re nostalgic for the Ayers-Dohrn style violent attacks against their enemies. But as of now, the ones making all the fiery pronouncements want someone else to go first in turning the words into deeds, because even they know that, in the wake of 9/11 (and with Ground Zero literally a diagonal walk across the street from Occupy Wall Street’s base in Zuccotti Park), all the media spin in the world wouldn’t be able to excuse away or romanticize domestic terrorist actions in 2011 the same way the media could attempt to do 40-plus years ago.

Only the most asinine Democrats don’t comprehend that if the OWS protests turn violent and innocent people become victims of violence, it’s game, set, match for them having any hope of winning anything in 2012 (that would be true for either side, as far as the swing voters go in 2012, which is why the Democrats were so desperate to link all things conservative to the Gabby Giffords shooting back in January, based on nothing but conjecture. In this case, you’ve got virtually the entire MSNBC prime-time crew and Democrats like Nancy Pelosi going out and praising the OWSers, to the point that if things turn ugly, they can’t escape association with building up the climate that contributes to the violence).

From AP’s quotes of the day:

“Protest is exciting when you are young, and everyone deserves their chance to burn something down.”

This is where Mr. Stanley is completely wrong. Yet, if our youthful protesters want to “burn something down”, they should first learn how penmanship works from a prison cell. This nation will not be tolerant to the anarchist or the arsonist who would jeopardize/destroy that which they do not own. And neither should the liberal progressives be complicit in encouraging these children to burn anything—or they will hear plenty from the silent majority.

Honestly, these protests are good. The longer they go on the less sense they make and the more the insanity of the left is exposed.
I think those funding this madness have jumped the shark and it is getting out of their control.
I do not think the left has learned a thing from this though and when they try to repeat this next year it ought to push most of the voters right.
Assuming we have a right, or the right candidate……I’m losing hope there.

ORconservative on October 12, 2011 at 10:33 AM

Madness, but a very old one.

And in this age of madness, what are we offering in response? Mitt Romney? More madness.

What brave presidential candidate stepped up last night to address this filthy, scrofulous scourge spreading across America?

Madness and cowardice. How can this end well?

So… I assume it’s okay to say “revolution” in the comments again?

Hey, it’s okay to use it in the NYT comments, why not here?

Colbyjack on October 12, 2011 at 10:46 AM

Yeah, but it was the teabaggers who really advocate violence!!!11!1one!!!1!!eleventy!!!!

Is it finally clear as to why the Left would like to grab our guns?

Colbyjack on October 12, 2011 at 10:31 AM

Do they really understand what they would be in for if they tried?

Or do they and, that is the result they want?

roy_batty on October 12, 2011 at 10:55 AM

I wonder when Zombie Season starts, and where we buy our tags?

Dr Evil on October 12, 2011 at 9:59 AM

No tags required, it’ll be Open Season. Prepare your list of targets ahead of time. They’ll try to squirm away and hide. Do not let them.

I thought the other day, the idiots protesting dressed up as zombies…too bad no one shot them all.

Rule #2: Double Tap.

RE: Ayers gang of brilliance sitting around trying to figure out how to kill 25million Americans….duh its been done already, its called Zyclon-B. Not as smart as first thought eh? Bill, I’m laughing at the superior intellect.

The longer they stay out there, the stronger their belief that they’re having an effect. In 1972 there was great hope among the hippie unwashed and great excitement surrounding McGovern. He got killed in the election.

Unfortunately, we got Richard “we’re all Keynesians now” Nixon.

mankai on October 12, 2011 at 10:58 AM

Ok, serious question here – how do we call on the carpet and demand comment from *all* politicians and ‘journalists’ who decried ‘violence’ from Tea Partiers where there was none, and make them respond to this?

I’d also like to see Chris Matthews squirm and have to respond to why these ‘occupy’ tards are almost exclusively ‘white’, and juxtapose his comments with his comments re: the Tea Party.

Midas on October 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM

I think they’re overplaying their hand here a bit. There’s really nothing revolutionary about any of this. We’ve had far worse demonstrations in the 60′s. I don’t think this is comparing with anything like that at all… it’s certainly more depraved and obviously communist.. but not more turbulent or massive. This is mostly, from what I am seeing, just a bunch of lowlifes lead by some union thugs and Marxists. The 60′s nearly ripped America apart. At least it seemed to if you watch enough TV.

But.. the question ere is whether some of these morons will get frustrated enough to cross the line, take things to a new lever. This guys is openly talking violence. I don’t know if America is really going to embrace the Democrat party and Obama more because a bunch of lowlifes are out in the streets demanding violence and killing! I don’t think people are going to go “Oh gosh, they blew up a building, their throwing bricks through windows, their threatening to kill the rich … we need to re-elect Obama!”

The Republican establishment has this habit of thinking they need to appeal to the mainstream medial to get their message out. The left has a similar fault.. they think we’re all stupid enough to believe the mainstream media. This isn’t going to work for them It just isn’t. They may riot, they may do more.. but there is nothing about this group or their actions that is going to make America re-elect Obama.

This is not prewar Nazi Germany. This is not Venezuela. This is America. For all of our faults and bad habits, we are much wiser and greater than all that is portrayed on the nightly network news!

I also don’t think a lot of these lowlifes have the endurance. How many of them are there because they’ve been paid to be there? How many of them are there for the free food? Is that really how you start a revolution? Maybe in some places, I’m not sure it’s going to work here.

Here’s a video of the 60′s riots and turbulence. It’s just about 2 minutes, not really very in depth but it does show some of the contrasts.

You’re exactly right. Every left-wing movement eventually resorts to violence. Fortunately for us, most of these femmes couldn’t fight their way out of a paper bag. And all those years of preaching about gun control has left them largely unarmed. If they actually did come after us with their jazz hands and what few sharpened sticks they can gather up, I have no doubt there would be none of them left after a few days.

WarEagle01 on October 12, 2011 at 11:15 AM

This leftist clown is right! It is time for a violent revolution; it is time to shed blood! It is past time for all of this! It is about time we stick the heads of leftist clowns like this and the Dumb-o-crat party on pikes in the town square!

Midas, you’ve really struck gold with this one… Sorry, I just had to say that. Great point, except where we expect a rational person to feel like an enormous phony and hypocrite when confronted with the above, Mathew and his ilk will simply resort to their usual ethical gymnastics to argue that somehow, THIS is a different situation entirely.

CaptFlood on October 12, 2011 at 11:36 AM

Of course this is going to end in violence. A bunch of young, shiftless losers being used as political fodder by the leftist elite. They have no real plan but to just sit and stew in a very uncomfortable outdoor environment until they finally decide to go nuts like the thugs of London.

Only this ain’t London. They will be hurt.

We should start getting these people’s names on these videos so that we can hold them accountable. Because as previously stated, those advocating violence will not be on the front lines.

But they are still responsible.

StubbleSpark on October 12, 2011 at 11:58 AM

debbie wassername shultz was on fox this morning defending all this in her usually smarmy smiling condescending manner. and of course, she blamed it on bush. Brian Kilmeade kept trying to pin her down but she wouldnt shut up and kept talking over him. she monopolized the whole segment. you could see the frustration of the morning Fox team.
the democrats are finally showing their true colors and they are not red, white, and blue. It took Satan 40 years to lay this trap for America, and now it’s sprung. Violence will come. The democrats will promote it. This is the ultimate in community organizing so i’d bet Obama is doing his little happy dance around the oval office. God help us.

abcurtis on October 12, 2011 at 12:01 PM

Let me see how many ways I can put this:

“Any time you feel froggy – JUMP!”
“$h1t or get off the pot!”
“Bring it!”
“Come at me!”

It really matters not.

What matters is that ANYONE who resorts to violence in this movement…Allowed, by Obama, to engage in such behavior…Will live to regret it. One way or another.

The Tea Party has been accused of, but has never engaged in, this type of behavior. But you can rest assured that they would, at any time, defend their homes & communities, if obama and his surrogates were to unleash these “dogs” of their (class) “war” upon the rest of us.

Don’t poke the bear with a stick.
And if you do…If you’re that stupid…Don’t bother runnin’ — you’ll only die tired.
