Van Jones: It’s time for an “American Autumn” in the spirit of the Arab Spring

Part umpteen in a continuing series on Jones’s quixotic dream “to build a progressive counterbalance to the tea party.” Honestly, I find it almost charming that he thinks selling his program as a U.S. version of the Arab Spring will win the public over to his cause. I haven’t seen an American poll on that subject in a good long while, but last I checked, people here were decidedly lukewarm about the protests in the Middle East. And that was before the most recent unrest in Greece, the August riots in London, and the spectacle of Egyptian populism degenerating into an assault on the Israeli embassy in Cairo. The grievances are distinct in each of those cases but the broader lesson that demonstrations of mass popular discontent have tended to turn out rather badly lately abides. And in case that lesson hasn’t been fully digested yet, wait until the heroes of the revolution in Egypt elect a much more radical regime than the one they just toppled. My hunch is that if Jones ever did organize a Tahrir-sized crowd for sustained protests, it’d end up operating as a de facto GOP campaign commercial. Then again, maybe electoral politics is beside the point here. The left’s disappointed in Obama, partly because he isn’t the progressive lion they hoped he’d be and partly because he’s on track to lead the party to a total wipe-out next year. Somehow the Great Liberal Realignment of 2008 has led to this, and this. They tried fashioning the permanent Democratic majority from the top-down by electing O, now they’re going to try it from the bottom-up with the “American Autumn” or whatever. Gotta stay relevant somehow, no?
Anyway, that’s one highlight from a predictably hard-hitting interview with Lawrence O’Donnell. The other highlight: Jones casually dismissing “this phony made-up deficit stuff” that Republicans are always yammering about. That’s part of his ongoing attempt to convince a population that’s $14 trillion in debt that the main thing standing between them and prosperity is their unwillingness to turn rich people upside down and shake the quarters from their pockets. Who knows? Maybe the American Autumn will be a huge success and our new Democratic congressional majority will reinstate the Clinton tax rates and pass Medicare for all, like real progressive warriors want. Then we’ll really be rich.

I know a 50 something white guy who just started his third year on unemployment… He had been panicking and admitting that he had wasted all the past 2 years sitting in front of the TV… But now that he’s got the new extension… he is smiling again. All ready to waste as much time as he can get away with.

When I tell people like him that unemployment, especially the extensions are a trap, they don’t get it. They don’t want to get it. It’s a cushy trap that must be worked at to get out of once your in, but to stay in all you need to do is… nothing. Some people will do what ever nothing they can to stay in that trap once they are there.

What he doesn’t understand is that the Tea Party balanced out the union thugs. The left has always had what they call “grassroots”. And by that I guess they mean union people who are given matching T-shirts and put on a bus and given signs and slogans and told talking points to rattle off if asked any questions.
The Tea Party is genuine. That is what really scares them. You cannot gin up genuine outrage unless you are ginning it up against yourself. There will be no leftist Tea Party because conservatism works and will not anger people like the Obama.

First off, as Allah points out, there’s no burning desire by Americans to emulate Arabs, who are currently toppling dictatorial regimes in the Middle East. And even if there was… um, Barack Obama, the head progressive, is in charge of the American “regime”.
Second, the word “spring” is the key bit in the phrase “Arab Spring”. It’s usage speaks of rebirth, life, and youth. Of course, words like “autumn” and “fall” are a totally opposite message.
Just mind-boggling. We literally don’t have to do a thing. Just stand back and watch. lol
Ah well, despite massive amounts of college spending, we can always count on these eggheads to be fundamentally stupid.

No doubt that some of them, have some clue about what they were protesting, but the ones Hannity’s crew were interviewing, watched Fox and listened to Hannity on the radio for years….so yeah good luck with that Cat herding Van. Those aren’t the hard professional left turning out, those are the folks who have nothing better to do with their time – they looked like a bunch of miffed moderates. County by county, state by state, people have been preparing themselves for this Mr. Jones… Here in my little county in the mountains of Montana, we have been ready for this for quite some time and have actually had many meetings/discussions about this very subject. When our President started talking about organizing public citizens (brown shirts) and telling us that these folks would have power greater than that of the police, we were listening. When our President started appointing czars such as Van Jones and giving these self proclaimed communists power, we were watching. MSNBC and other media outlets have been broadcasting just who/what they support for a long time now. Our basements are full of dry food, water, and supplies necessary for this assault you speak of Mr. Jones.
This comes as no surprise; they have been telling us of this day for quite some time now.

In my area, the folks that are running scared about Mr. Jones and his Oktoberfest are the Progressive Liberals who were so vocal just a few months ago but have now gone into hiding behind their front doors. This is not going to turn out well for those who supported this plan while it was in the making. We are not a violent people, but we do have survival instincts and we do know how to isolate those whom are guilty and shut them off on a local level without any use of violence. This plan Mr. Jones speaks of has been in the making for a long time and those who supported this with their money and voices are guilty of what is coming. A neighbor of mine had several signs up in his front yard just 6-months ago supporting the likes of Mr. Jones while blaming everything on the evil Tea Party and the Koch brothers. We haven’t seen or heard a word from this man for several months now, but we know what he’s been up to. When our President told the CBC to stop whining and put on their marching shoes we were listening; when our president told unions members to “get in their faces” we were listening. No Ernesto, it is not us whom are itching to turn our guns on fellow Americans. It is not us delivering the marching orders for violence. However we have been watching and listening and planning; we are not itching to turn our guns on fellow Americans but we are a smart people very capable of planning and preparing for what we see coming AT us.

It may be a little late in the thread to ask this question, but did anyone hear Michael Savage last night around 8:00 pm DST? He was reading (I think) a piece about the destruction of the human spirit and of societies caused by redistributionist/totalitarian true believers. I want to know the source of the piece since I caught his reading about halfway through. Was it his own work from his latest book, or was he sharing another thinker’s ideas?
BTW Ayn Rand’s first novel describes the world of hurt in communist societies even better than Atlas Shrugged does, although the latter describes how societies get to that hopeless situation by power-mad “leaders” preying on the compassion of others in creating a “fair” society.
When I hear the words “social justice,” my antenna go up. The appeal of these slogans to the politically naive spell doom to the individual and to freedom.

I think that the opposite is true: that Jones is a communist who uses Green and social justice slogans to reel in the naive and idealistic to a redistributionist philosophy. There are two classes in those societies: the all-powerful, all-favored bureaucrats who run the system top-down and the impoverished workers who get the crumbs regardless of their talents or contributions.

It’s not difficult to connect the dots. reminded me that Napoleon(Stalin) and Snowball(Trotsky) were antagonistic toward each other. And of course, Snowball was paid off with an ice axe to the head, a Soviet gift from Napoleon(nee Stalin). Further, my literary advisor, after listening attentively to my backgrounder on Van Jones, said that Jones sounded a lot more like the character Squealer(Molotov). Napoleon’s minister of propaganda, who obscures, denies or manipulates facts to tout Napoleon’s dirty deeds. Hope this clears it up for ya – it did for me!

Why hasn’t there been any gloating here about the “Days of Rage” “Occupy Wall Street” “What is our one demand” epic fail event? I thought THAT was going to be the progressive/liberal/socialist/neo-fascist response to the tea party. Well, since the coffee party was epic fail.

If there were rioting in the streets, you can bet that punk-butt agitator Van Jones would be hiding behind Valerie Jarrett’s skirt crying, “Mammy don’t let them get me!”
There’s nothing wrong with Jones a few dozen whacks with a nightstick couldn’t fix . . . or at least quiet down.
