Biden: Yeah, this is our economy, not Bush’s

posted at 6:00 pm on September 29, 2011 by Allahpundit

Awfully sporting of him to help the RNC ad team out.

“Even though 50-some percent of the American people think the economy tanked because of the last administration, that’s not relevant,” said the vice president. “What’s relevant is we’re in charge.”

The economic recession began during the final year of the Bush administration, and polls show many Americans continue to blame Mr. Bush – not his successor – for the current economic situation. A CBS News/New York Times poll over the summer found that 26 percent of Americans mostly blame the Bush administration for the state of the economy, while just 8 percent blame the Obama administration…

Biden said it is “totally legitimate” for the 2012 presidential election to be “a referendum on Obama and Biden and the nature and state of the economy.” He said Americans will need to make a choice between what the Obama administration is offering to address the problem and what is being offered by the eventual Republican nominee.

True enough about the summer CBS/NYT poll, but Gallup asked the same question just 10 days ago and found a dwindling gap between Bush and Obama among independents when it comes to economic culpability. Among indies, 67 percent say Bush deserves a “great deal’ or “moderate amount” of blame compared to 60 percent who say the same of Obama. Bush still leads Obama in those categories overall — 69 percent versus 53 percent — but that’s mainly because Republicans aren’t nearly as partisan on this question as Democrats are. Fully 50 percent of GOPers say Bush deserves a great deal or moderate amount of blame; just 25 percent say the same about The One. I assume that’s a function of Dems having a lot more invested in Obama’s political fortunes going forward than Republicans do in Bush’s, but as time passes, O’s culpability will naturally creep up. Democrats will probably hold fairly steady, especially as election day approaches, but look out for those disgruntled independents. They’ll getcha every time.

As for Biden, he’s not the only prominent Democrat to take responsibility for the economy recently. Remember when lifelike talking-points robot Debbie Wasserman-Schultz told Politico back in June that “we own the economy”? And of course The One began his term in 2009 by infamously observing to Matt Lauer that if he didn’t have things on the mend in three years, he’d be a one-termer. I wonder why Biden and Debbie Downer are now suddenly so mellow about wrapping their arms around this electoral atomic bomb. Just pure fatalism at work, maybe, knowing that they can’t escape it and might as well salvage a little “the buck stops here” bravado from disaster? I could almost respect that if I didn’t think they’ll be spending every waking moment next year blaming Bush anyway.

portlandon on September 29, 2011 at 6:03 PM

It sure is. Expose this to all you know.

In its quest to promote taxpayer-funded entitlement programs, the Obama Administration has actually rewarded one state with a $5 million bonus for its efficiency in adding food-stamp recipients to already bulging rolls.

It’s part of the administration’s campaign to eradicate “food insecure households” by improving access and increasing participation in the government’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Incidentally, the program was recently changed to SNAP to eliminate the stigma that comes with a name like food stamps. Just a few months ago the federal agency that administers the program, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), launched a multi-million-dollar initiative to recruit more food-stamp participants even though the number of
recipients has skyrocketed in the last few years.

Expose these impertinent taxpayer exploiters and explode them out of Wash. DC. Let them eat bread. Enough cakes on your dole.

Good grief! This administration is scraping the bottom of the barrel to prove itself to be “just folks.” AP/Yahoo is featuring Michelle Obama shopping at Target…incognito in sunglasses (in a building???) and baseball cap and one of her People of WalMart outfits. The photos are so phony. FLOTUS is pushing a nearly empty shopping cart while carrying her shopping bags in one of her hands. Of course, no one noticed the SS personnel tailing her around the store and the heavily armored black SUVs parked out front.

For some reason, this administration thinks that Michelle Obama is their ticket to voter approval. Strange.

onlineanalyst on September 29, 2011 at 6:32 PM

Joe mans up?

Also in regards to the John Paul Stevens post :
((sorry it would not post on the other thread))

Sorry precedent wins.

Stevens in regards to Roe V. Wade>

Stevens says he thinks if Roe v. Wade had been written more narrowly, the court might have avoided some of the criticism that ensued. “In all candor,” he told me, “I think Harry [Blackmun] could have written a better opinion. I think if the opinion had said what Potter Stewart said very briefly” — namely that the right to marital and family privacy previously recognized by the court included a right to choose abortion — “it might have been much more acceptable, instead of trying to create a new doctrine that really didn’t make sense.”

From ABC:

Although nominated by Republican President Gerald Ford in 1975, Stevens became a hero to liberals voting to limit the use of the death penalty, uphold affirmative action, broaden the core holding of Roe v. Wade and argue for a strict separation of church and state.

Thanks Ford. Funny I wonder if he has any regrets about his votes in regards to abortion./

We need more Michelle. Lots more Michelle. Give Michelle her own reality show. No, better than that — her own radio talk show, on all AM and FM stations during commute hours. Mark Russell Looks at Campaign 1980 (1/3)
*****************************************

Political comedian & musical satirist Mark Russell looks back at the 1980 presidential campaign. Remember when George H.W. Bush was against Reagan before he was for him? Do you remember when Ted Kennedy fought President Carter for the Democratic nomination? If you’re too young to remember, forget about the history books and wikipedia; take a hilariously historical look back with your host, Mark Russell.

Maybe Gov. Perdue’s idea is creating this sudden responsibility? She’s not the first to bring it up. Obama himself has said on numerous occasions that Democracy is hard, and if it weren’t for the constitution, or Republicans, he could get his agenda done.

Perhaps they aren’t worried about elections. A little EO by Obama..and who would stop him? No one has , so far.

We’re going into a Recession. I call June, 2011 as the inevitable date:

[T[he latest YoY real GDP, at 1.6% (revised upward from 1.5% in last month’s GDP estimate), is below the level at the onset of all the recessions since the first quarterly GDP was calculated — with one exception: The six-month recession in 1980 started in a quarter with lower YoY GDP (1.4% versus today’s 1.6%). And only on one occasion (Q1 2007) has YoY GDP dropped below 1.6% without a recession starting in same quarter. In that case the recession began three quarters later in December 2007.

In his 2011 Jackson Hole speech, Chairman Bernanke observed that “growth in the second half looks likely to improve.” Our look at YoY GDP percent change suggests that we must indeed see stronger second half growth to avoid the recession that now appears to be a definite risk. If Q3 real GDP shows a continuation of the current trend, the NBER will likely pick a month in Q2 as the beginning of a new recession.
