Obligatory: The Rick Perry lip-reading clip

posted at 7:30 pm on September 27, 2011 by Allahpundit

Prediction: We’re going to get a roughly 50/50 split on this in the comments. Half of you will hate it because it’s the dumbest thing ever, half of you will love it because … it’s the dumbest thing ever. Count me in the second group; I was gasping with laughter even on the second viewing. I think it’s a combination of the voice, which is dead on, plus the fact that — let’s face it — this is what this guy sounds like during the second hour of debates. In fact, if I’m not mistaken, that rambling attack on Romney for flip-flopping near the end of the last one closed with, “Save a pretzel for the gas jets.”

Exit question: Rick is from Mars, Romney is from Venus?

Blowback

OT: Jeb Bush in support of in-state tuition for children of illegal immigrants

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush says in-state tuition for children of some illegal immigrants is “fair policy,” suggesting GOP presidential hopeful Rick Perry is right on the issue.

Bush made his comments today in an e-mail to the National Journal.

Bush, who championed legislation in Florida similar to the Texas law, told National Journal that in a slow economy, in-state tuition for illegal immigrants “would not be a high priority as it would be in times of abundance.”

Twelve states now grant in-state college tuition to illegal immigrants, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

How long do you think it will take Romney to make a flip-flop on this issue? I am guessing as soon as he stands to address a Hispanic-majority audience.

Methinks you are right. It’s the Romney way. I was also disappointed in Santorum on Hannity last night saying he didn’t care if illegals pursued higher education in this country as long as they pay for it and aren’t subsidized by the taxpayers. His argument was that foreigners from all over the world get higher education here, but he doesn’t distinguish between those that went through the proper channels to study here and those that have no right to be here in the first place. Unbelievable.

Nope, it is to demonstrate that support for in-state tuition for kids of illegal immigrants might be more widespread than some might think. Those opposing it have their reasons and are very passionate about it. However, those supporting it also have their reasons and have equal passionate about it.

I would daresay support for and against the Texas Dream Act cuts across party divides and it’s hard to tell which side is the majority. It might therefore not hurt Perry the way his opponents are hoping it will.

And I expect Romney, just like Santorum on Hannity (ht: KickandSwimMom), to dodge and weave if he is confronted with the facts and asked to state his positions or alternatives.

Romney/Bachmann/Santorum are as usual being hypocrites and engaging in political demagoguery.

TheRightMan on September 27, 2011 at 8:18 PM

How can you justify charging someone who is here legally more than someone who is illegally?

But then I don’t understand the logic behind in-state tuition break at only some colleges only. If you want to help in-state kids, then give them a voucher and let them go to the place that is best for them.

But it’s not for the kids, is it? It is for the in-state government employees.
