Waters: Obama would never tell the Jews or the gays to stop complaining

posted at 10:10 am on September 26, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Looks like Barack Obama really made an impression on the Congressional Black Caucus this weekend — but not the one he intended. Maxine Waters tells CBS that she’s not sure exactly who Obama thought he was addressing, and claimed that the CBC has worked a whole lot more on unemployment than the President has, without whining about their critics.  But Waters goes one better by telling CBS that Obama wouldn’t have dared telling a couple of other identity groups to stop griping:

Sounds as if the CBC just fired a shot across Obama’s bow on the pecking order for pandering in the Democratic coalition.  After NY-09, Obama has tried to jolly along his Jewish supporters, who look like they may either sit on their hands in 2012 or bolt for the Republicans in numbers large enough to matter.  Earlier this year, Obama backed off from defending DOMA and pushing for a quick end to DADT to mollify the LGBT lobby.  The CBC apparently feels as though Obama takes them for granted, and Obama telling them to shut up apparently didn’t convince the CBC of his appreciation.

The CBC apparently feels as though Obama takes them for granted, and Obama telling them to shut up apparently didn’t convince the CBC of his appreciation.

“Interviewed Monday on CBS’ ‘Early Show,’ Waters said black Americans fully support Obama and are working to promote his agenda.”

Anyone else see the disconnect here? The CBC and other folks in the black community are frustrated and feel taken for granted….yet they fully support Obama and his agenda. Well why the hell do you think he takes you for granted, Maxine? You keep campaigning and voting for him. If racial politics is that important, there is a black alternative in the GOP right now whose candidacy just got a big boost this weekend.

Doughboy on September 26, 2011 at 10:16 AM

Waters was confused because he never used the words “biotch and hores”, when he was telling them to sit down and shut up…

-

RalphyBoy on September 26, 2011 at 10:19 AM

Earlier this year, Obama backed off from defending DOMA and pushing for a quick end to DADT to mollify the LGBT lobby.

Obama also backed off his prior statements admitting he does not have the Constitutional authority to unilaterally change immigration law. When he saw his hispanic approval numbers nose-diving a few months ago, he suddenly decided that he really does have that authority after all — hence, the EO stopping all deportations of illegal aliens, except those who have murdered someone.

No wonder blacks are miffed. All the other Democratic special interest groups are being pandered to big time by Obama, yet all he does for blacks is tell them to stop whining . . . er, whinin’?

golfmann on September 26, 2011 at 10:33 AM

Waters diatribe would have more force behind it if one of the CBC district ever even came close in an election to flipping for a Republican due to political reasons (William Jefferson’s 2008 loss in New Orleans was due to corruption charges that were just too patently obvious to ignore).

And therein lies the problem for Maxine. Obama and his advisers can take them for granted because they know they’re not going to face a NY-9 situation from the voters in that district, there’s no reason to pander if you can treat the district as a whack-a-mole game, knowing you can screw them over any which way they want with the assurance that, at best, they might change Democratic congressional representatives, but they’re not going change over to voting for the Republican nominee.

karu_servative on September 26, 2011 at 10:34 AM

Obama takes the CBC for granted precisely because he can take the CBC for granted. He can tell them to shut up; he can go around the CBC and speak directly to African-Americans and there isn’t much that Maxine Waters is going to be able to do about it. The CBC doesn’t have many cards to play against Obama, not while he retains nearly monolithic support from African-American voters.

Maxine Waters tells CBS that she’s not sure exactly who Obama thought he was addressing

Why, PBHO was addressing the 90% of the black population who blindly support him for no other reason than the color of his skin. Even I could figure that out and I’m not a smart congressperson like the uber-intelligent Waters.

Why, he was talking to his plantation slaves, Maxine … the single most racist and captive demographic in all of American politics, the segregated congressional black minority of the Democrat party and their supporters, the 95% of blacks who vote for blacks in lockstep.

That is, unless the blacks in question are Republican candidates, who are then mocked in racist terms and caricatured based on their skin color, somehow.

Snort. They can’t even complain about Obama ignoring them without saying they’ll still support him. It’s really hilarious. I mean, why do they think they’re being ignored? Blacks are the safest, surest, most unconditional voting block Democrats have. Unions may balk if they don’t get paid off. Lawyers and Wall Street may keep their money on the sidelines. But black voters come out for Democrats reliably, despite the continual damage caused to their own communities by the very people they elect.
