Video: Obama tells CBC to “stop complaining” and start marching

posted at 12:00 pm on September 25, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

This is getting big play over at The Blaze and in a couple of our comment threads, but let’s keep a couple of things in mind. The CBC was going to stop complaining soon enough anyway; did anyone think that the CBC would publicly oppose Barack Obama in 2012? I doubt anyone in the room was offended, although having Obama dropping his Gs while telling authentic heroes of the civil-rights movement like Georgia’s John Lewis to take off their bedroom shoes and start marching really should have offended them.  And casting himself as a quasi-martyr for continuing “press on” despite his low approval ratings might not exactly be offensive, but it is at least a little desperate:

Finally, for a man who insisted that he wasn’t indulging in class warfare, this sounded an awful lot like a John Edwards Two Americas speech, didn’t it?  And as far as focusing on real people instead of campaign contributors, let’s not forget that Obama’s last jobs bill put over a half-billion dollars into Solyndra — and whose contributor was Solyndra’s main investor, George Kaiser?

The Get Whitey Speech. what a selfish, hateful irresponsible child he is- just like his audience. the also rans of the post real civil rights era -are they gonna move from the spoils trough long enough to flash mob for him again?

these are the people who were malformed by the marxist radical left in the 60s. i am reminded that this is the generation- the race hustlers of a certain age that prop up Obambi- more influenced by huey newton( a rapist and murderer who used whites to advance his own criminal undertakings) than martin luther king jr whom the panthers themselves used to call ‘ martin luther coon’. it’s absolutely disgusting. they’re being exploited by this purely self serving demagogue just as they exploit the irrational resentments and fears of their constituents instead of pursuing policies that may help them.

and i thought we’d one day get over the psychic and social devastation caused in the 90s by the LA riots and oj- because that’s what stupid ill informed romantic people with basically good intentions thought they’d do by electing a predominantly white and arab man masquerading as an african-american. in some areas the black unemployment rate is 25% and they have the audacity to not call him to task for this disgraceful number?

no group besides has been hack celebrity radicals has been more responsible for the abysmal dialogue on race in this country and the resulting hatreds then the likes of the CBC who clearly do not give a blank about black people besides themselves. in truth they only fear that they themselves will loose power if their perceived home slice isn’t re-elected

mittens on September 25, 2011 at 2:26 PM

Hubby and I have names for each of his speech styles, this would be the “Southern Preacher,” then there’s the “Malcolm X,” then you have “Bumbling, Rambling Man,” (this is always given to middle-class mostly white audiences), and “Educated Orator Of The World,” where he uses the “Pockeestahn” and “Tollybahn” references. I wonder if presidential candidates understand that adopting a Southern accent is offensive to those of us who are Southern? I don’t see Southerners adopting a Northern accent when they go campaign in the North…

di butler on September 25, 2011 at 2:28 PM

I don’t know, if someone told me to take off my bedroom slippers that would sound a little chastising or condescending to me, no matter what the rest of the sentence was. I’d be tempted to tell him to quit campaignin’ and go do some presidentin’, ya’ll.

lewis1940 on September 25, 2011 at 2:41 PM

I’ve been giving this matter a lot of thought over the past couple of years. Please allow me to share some crazy with you for a moment. (It’s taking a lot of guts to push the Submit button on this one.)

In the weeks after Obama took office — when his actual job performance confirmed my fears — I predicted some possibilities. Here are a few that are relevant to this thread. Maybe they won’t happen if we’re lucky.

1. Despite his poor job performance and poor choices, some blacks are going to blindly support him the same way some blacks blindly attested to O.J.’s innocence. Worst case scentario: Race relations in some areas will be set back as far as forty years. (Check point met?)

2. Assuming 1 above, as Obama does progressivley worse, there will eventually come a cry of “He only got the job because he was black.” That assertion will likely come from white “free thinking” individual(s) on the left but later be attributed by the left to the “white right” in general. (In other words, it’ll be like a repeat of how the left pinned the Hillary-for-President camp’s “Birther” meme onto the Tea Party movement.) Worst case scenario: Race relations in some areas will be set back an additional ten years.

3. Assuming 2 above, in response to disillusionment with the man himself plus worsening race relations that they feel should not be their fault, some of the blacks that strongly supported Obama due to racial reasons will begin to desert the cause. Their new observation: Obama is not one of us; he’s not an authentic “black American.” This is not that Birther thing; he can trace his ancestery to neither freed slaves circa 1860′s USA nor civil opressed black families circa 1950′s USA. (C.f. the apostle Peter’s “I never knew him.”)

4. Assuming 3 above, denialism leads to a sharper divide within black communities. Since the Obama supporters will probably be more faithful and aggressive than the doubters, they might dig in deeper, recruit others, and predominate. (If some individuals develop a “bitter clinging” fanaticism, will we come full circle?) Worst case scenario: Some individuals take it upon themselves to oversee the next election for Obama’s sake; I don’t care to calculate the worst case setback in racial relatoins.

5. Assuming 4 above, what happens if/when he loses?

Like I said, most of this hasn’t happened. Feel free to tear it appart. Maybe my view on this is prejudiced because I was a white kid in the 1960′s who had black friends in grade school but lost them after they were told by the popular culture that that being an angry black was more important than being an equal. Hopefully the fear of going through similar again is unreasoned.

apostic on September 25, 2011 at 2:57 PM

I think Obama’s right, actually. The Left really doesn’t have a lot to complain about with this President. They’ve gotten big spending, health care reform, etc. If I were him, I’d be made about the whining too.

dogsoldier on September 25, 2011 at 6:13 PM

I think blacks should take Barry’s advice. They should put on their marching shoes and march down to the White House and demand accountability from The Man for this piss-poor economy we’ve had for the past three years.

Of course, that might put Barry in a rather uncomfortable position, seeing as he is now The Man and this piss-poor economy is his creation . . . But hey, maybe he can invite them all in for a beer summit and smoothe things over.

sandee on September 25, 2011 at 6:56 PM

This kind of things is partly why Obama’s approval with white voters is plummeting. A lot of white baby boomers naively voted for Obama thinking his election would bring some kind of resolution to black anger with America and with whites. Instead, they find themselves on the receiving end of classic racial demagoguery and racist policies in the tradition of Al Sharpton and Detroit’s Coleman Young. And now they’re saying, “W-w-wha-a-at?! But we made our appeasing, symbolic gesture! Wait a minute….” Rubes.

Django on September 25, 2011 at 7:17 PM

Theworldisnotenough on September 25, 2011 at 7:19 PM

Obama sounds more desperate each day. He’s creating class warfare by always talking about the rich not paying enough taxes. Now he’s insulting blacks by saying they’re lazy and sitting around in their slippers. Does he want them to put on their marching shoes and march toward riots? I remember the race riots in the 1960′s and it sure sounds to me like he’s trying to incite them to organize and riot.

GrannySunni on September 25, 2011 at 7:25 PM

Obama loves the idea of race war as a political tool.

“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s gonna be harder and that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2.”

Django on September 25, 2011 at 7:25 PM

ramrants on September 25, 2011 at 7:28 PM

Personally, I would have booed him off the stage, but that’s just me. I would love to tell my fellow Americans, who happen to be black, you really need to find some new leadership because the one you have now has sold you down the river.

They’ve already admitted that, if Obama wasn’t the President, they’d be marching on the White House. So, 17% unemployment, in the black community, is just fine, as long as Obama is the President. The inferior education your children are getting, in the inner city, because of the Democrats and the teacher’s unions, is just fine, as long as Obama is in the White House. The fact that you’ve had the same complaints, for the past 50 years, can be put on hold, because Obama is in the White House.

If I were black, I’d be marching on that White House and asking why they were passing out a half billion dollars to a bunch of white folk making solar panels, and they can’t come up with a realistic way to create jobs in the inner city. I’d be marching on this White House complaining that teacher’s unions were keeping children from achieving real success by purposely not teaching them to be successful. I don’t want set asides, smaller classes, lower standards to get into college, I want the “Sidwell-Friends” education. I want black children to be educated so they don’t need to lower the standards to get into college, they’ll be able to match them. Does anyone believe that James Meridith was given a break on his SAT scores, grade requirements, or any other requirement, to get into the University of Mississippi? Of course not, and neither should anyone else. Their education should be on the same part as the President’s children at Sidwell-Friends and they should be marching on the White House to get it.

If John Kennedy drove the employment rate, in the Irish community, to 17%, don’t you think they’d be marching? The fact is that last night’s speech was a tragedy, for a couple of reasons. (1) He should have said he knows they have problems and he’ll try and work on them, (2) He should have said he’s working on a jobs program, with Republicans, that should start turning things around.

Barack Obama may be the only President, in history, that had so many people wanting him to succeed and yet realizing, if his ideas are successful, the country will go down the tubes. Rush Limbaugh’s remarks are starting to hit home to many more Americans, even those who thought they were atrocious when he first made them.

Video: Obama tells CBC to “stop complaining” and start marching

Nearing 17 percent, joblessness among blacks is at a three-decade high and almost twice the size of the overall unemployment rate. The black caucus wants the president to do more.

There it is CBC. Shut up and put your marching shoes on–so, the only sound we’re going to hear from you is the sound of flip flops hitting the pavement. The president obviously knows you ain’t got anything better to do. Maybe that’s a feature?

Yes, total lack of the understanding of cause and effect…assuming that is, that they really are interested in helping people. Some of these families make generational poverty a venerated institution. Wonder if the Bureau of Perpetual Welfare & Poverty ever bothered to tell these folks the following:

If you don’t have opportunities where you are, move to where they are-especially if you are young.

Boss is an #$$&%*@!? Stick it out for a while and find another job with someone who treats you better and maybe pays you more…or start your own business.

Job is a dead end? There are many, many opportunities to learn a trade or get into many professions with as little as a two-year degree…there are community colleges everywhere and are far less expensive than the big universities.

Ticked off that the CEOs of the company you work for are rolling in the dough and your pay sucks? Buy stock in that company and make money, too.

Or sit around, complain, and let the government take care of you (sort of)…whatever.
