Video: Two years ago today …

posted at 2:45 pm on September 15, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

With Barack Obama’s green-jobs plan blowing up in his face, it’s a difficult time for the President to sell Porkulus II: Economic Boogaloo to a hostile electorate.  His track record of economic promises won’t help him out much, either.  The RNC notes that this is the two-year anniversary of Obama’s claim that the first Porkulus would raise middle-class incomes by $3,000 a year.  Obama made this promise to the 2009 AFL-CIO convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania:

All in all, many middle-class families will see their incomes go up by about $3,000 because of the Recovery Act, helping them get back much of what they’ve lost due to this recession.

How did that work out for the middle class? As Chris Matthews notes in the same clip, it moved some of the middle class into, er, the poverty class. Poverty hit a 15-year high the year after Obama made this claim. What happened to middle-class income overall, though? About what you’d expect — it dropped by over a third the same amount Obama claimed it would go up:

Inflation-adjusted median household income in the U.S. fell 2.3% in 2010 from a year ago, to $49,445.

That’s not the only promise blown by Obama, either.  Dan Gainor at CNS News recalls that Barack Obama promised five million new green jobs from his economic policies, a promise made almost three years ago today in Toledo, Ohio:

We’ll create 5 million new, high-wage jobs by investing in the renewable sources of energy that will eliminate the oil we currently import from the Middle East in 10 years, and we’ll create 2 million jobs by rebuilding our crumbling roads, schools, and bridges.

Gainor says he’s only 4,996,455 jobs short:

The Washington Post might be a day late and $38 billion short, but it’s being honest about Barack Obama’s failed green jobs program. According to the Post, the “$38.6 billion loan guarantee program” has created just “3,545 new, permanent jobs” “after giving out almost half the allocated amount.”

For those not doing the math at home, that means more than $5 million per job.

The Post outlined Obama administration promises to “create or save 65,000 jobs” in the green jobs category. What it left out was that, while campaigning, Obama promised to create 5 million “green” jobs. He’s about 4,996,455 short.

Gainor gives mild praise to the Post for finally getting around to the story about the green-jobs snowjob, but offers praise to ABC at the same time for its aggressive pursuit of the story.  As far as the rest of the media goes … well, not so much:

At least, however, the Post is reporting it. The broadcast networks are not. The Business & Media Institute analyzed the results of a Nexis search for the term “green jobs” and found only 4 stories out of 52 (roughly 8 percent) between Jan. 17, 2009, and Aug. 17, 2011, included any criticism. That means 92 percent had no criticism. An additional 10 stories focused on Obama’s former green jobs “czar” Van Jones resignation (because of his 9/11 Truther views) were excluded from the analysis.

Say, doesn’t the news media say that their mission is to hold those in power accountable?  Sounds like a few more empty promises, doesn’t it?

My income is still the same as it was 2 years ago. That’s after getting raises(even if they were sometimes only COL adjustments) every year prior to that since 2005. But at least I avoided getting caught in the wave of mass layoffs back in June by my employer, so I have to try to look at the glass as half full. But please, Barry, stop trying to help.

NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC and CNN are sooo culpable for the disaster that is called Barack Obama. Seems to have been something of the proportions of a communist coup, the ‘election’ of Obama.

I could never again trust these network/organizations. I mean, not even try to trust them again.

Incomes would probably be a bit higher if not for Obama. Inflation has come, and is going to get worse. Higher energy prices, food prices, gas prices, clothing, necessities, EVERYTHING is higher, and going higher!

No one would know if their income was better, because next the tax man cometh.

Sex Doll Media (SDM): The current state of the major media outlets, and their on air personalities, as they relate to Barack Obama. The main characteristics are as follows: just lie there and receive whatever Obama wants to give you, whenever he wants to give it, however he wants to give it; provide a hollowed-out shell of an image thought to be attractive (a free Press), while maintaining a lifelessness posture. The most important responsibility of the SDM is to satisfy the political needs of President Obama. This is their chief end.

Promises, promises,
I’m all through with promises, promises now,
I don’t know how I got the nerve to walk out,
If I shout, remember, I feel free,
Now I can look at myself and be proud,
I’m laughing out loud.

Oh, promises, promises,
This is where those promises, promises end,
I won’t pretend that what was wrong can be right,
Every night I’ll sleep now, no more lies,
Things that I promised myself fell apart,
But I found my heart.

Oh, promises, their kind of promises,
Take all the joy from life,
Oh, promises, those kind of promises,
Can just destroy your life,
Oh, promises, promises, my kind of promises,
Can lead to joy and hope and love,
Yes, love!!

Back? What part of the left-wing agenda has been set back? The best you can say is that their legislative agenda has been put on hold temporarily, but they’ve redoubled their efforts with executive orders to more than make up for that. Meanwhile, every GOP candidate but one collapses with a fit of the vapors at the notion that Social Security is anything less than the sacred bedrock of democracy.

By eliminating the oil we drilled domestically from the Gulf of Mexico back then, we INCREASED the amount of oil we import from the Middle East in two years, and its price has doubled. And we created lots of offshore drilling jobs…in Brazil.

From our friends at Media Matters:

MATTHEWS: What do you make of the actual visual that people will see on TV and probably, as you know, as well as I, will remember a lot longer than words spoken tonight? And that’s the president looking very much like a jet, you know, a high-flying jet star. A guy who is a jet pilot. Has been in the past when he was younger, obviously. What does that image mean to the American people, a guy who can actually get into a supersonic plane and actually fly in an unpressurized cabin like an actual jet pilot?

-snip-

Here’s a president who’s really nonverbal. He’s like Eisenhower. He looks great in a military uniform. He looks great in that cowboy costume he wears when he goes West.

-snip-

He looks for real. What is it about the commander in chief role, the hat that he does wear, that makes him — I mean, he seems like — he didn’t fight in a war, but he looks like he does.

I loved you right through
Arm in arm we laughed like kids
At all the silly things we did

You made me promises promises
Knowing I’d believe
Promises promises
You knew you’d never keep

Second time around
I’m still believing words that you said
You said you’d always be here
“In love forever”
Still repeats in my head
You can’t finish what you start
If this is love it breaks my heart

You made me promises promises
You knew you’d never keep
Promises promises
Why do I believe

Arm in arm we laughed like kids
At all the silly things we did
You can’t finish what you start
If this is love it breaks my heart

You made me promises promises
You knew you’d never keep

You knew you’d never keep
Promises promises
Why do I believe

ButterflyDragon on September 15, 2011 at 4:16 PM

Traditionally, it was the news media’s job to hold government accountable. As William Safire told PBS’s Frontline a few years ago:

William Safire, author and former New York Times political columnist, fears that hostilities between the administration and the press could threaten the media’s ability to hold government accountable. “The great check and balance that was built into the Constitution is under challenge,” he says. “You’ve got to have a relationship between the government and the press that’s adversarial, but not an enemy.”

Of course that all went out the door with O’bama, because to be adversarial towards him would be racist, right?

Obama needs to go. Now! Before he destroys the U.S. defense wise as well as economic wise.

What if Franklin Delano Roosevelt had been suspected of being a Nazi sympathizer? What if he waxed poetic about the sounds of German martial music? What if, in the late 1930s, he hosted an annual Octoberfest dinner at the White House? What if he gave a speech in Germany apologizing for American actions in World War I? The parallels to the current occupant of the office of president are frightening. I submit that had Roosevelt displayed the above behavior, he would not have lasted long in office. The American public did not tolerate such behavior as evidenced by the public fate of Charles Lindbergh. Lindbergh came out as a de facto supporter of Hitler before the war, and was exiled from public view and investigated by the FBI.
