Flashback: Obama in 2009, wishing he didn’t have to listen to people criticize him all the time

posted at 6:10 pm on September 14, 2011 by Tina Korbe

The creators of “AttackWatch.com” apparently missed the first part of these remarks by the president in 2009, when Obama said he’s “a big believer in openness when it comes to the flow of information” and “a big supporter of non-censorship.” According to the 2009 Obama, the openness to criticize makes democracy stronger and makes him “a better leader” because it forces him to hear opinions he doesn’t want to hear.

But, even two years ago, Obama hinted at just how much he’d appreciate an outreach like AttackWatch.com.

“Now, I should tell you, I should be honest. As President of the United States there are times where I wish information didn’t flow so freely then I wouldn’t have to listen to people criticizing me all the time,” he said.

AttackWatch.com is all too happy to oblige. As Ed said when he posted that classic AttackWatch ad, it’s hard to resist the separate urge to write about every little video that highlights the silliness of this site. As has already been established, it makes the president look petty, paranoid and small. I just want to tell him, “Waaah. Somebody call the waambulance.” It’s also hard to resist the urge to write to see just what it takes to be reported to AttackWatch anyway …

Turn in 10 people who speak ill of Commander Obama, and get a Free Chevy Volt.

portlandon on September 14, 2011 at 6:19 PM

Obama said he’s a big believer in openness when it comes to the flow of information

but…but he didn’t say ‘honestly’, so this is a lie?

“Now, I should tell you, I should be honest. As President of the United States there are times where I wish information didn’t flow so freely then I wouldn’t have to listen to people criticizing me all the time,” he said.

He did say ‘honestly’, so this is the truth? This is what he really believes?

Skandia Recluse on September 14, 2011 at 6:19 PM

The problem with the AttackWatch.com concept is the heart and soul of America is freedom of thought, freedom of speech, freedom to criticize, freedom, freedom, freedom. Anything based on telling people to shut up will fail. Political Correctness has failed, except in certain closed enclaves like universities, advertising, and the public sector. And even there people know the criticism is PC BS, used to hit people over the head, or otherwise control them, or most like to suck money away from those who have it, by smearing them as racists or haters.

Maybe the 50 million or so of us who don’t share the love (or worship) of His Imperial Obamaness should go spam the AttackWatch site–they can’t follow all of us at once! Maybe the Ron Paul for President supporters should join the fun!

Maybe we should accuse Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck or Adolf Hitler of mounting “attacks” against the Anointed One, and then claim that the attackers were his former foreign campaign contributors…

Now that’s funny! Especially since Tahrir Square is in Cairo! Probably easier for O’Bambi to pronounce a Muslim-named Square than Tianenman, huh?

tbrosz on September 14, 2011 at 6:29 PM

If he doesn’t like criticism, boy did he pick the wrong line of work. Americans have criticized every president since we became a nation! Some a lot more harshly than he’s been subjected to. And some former presidents are STILL being criticized. He has no problem criticizing them!

President Obama Tells Chinese Students Unrestricted Internet Access Makes the U.S. Stronger,

Free Speech Makes Him a Better Leader
Nov 16 2009
***************************************

Seemingly making an attempt at humor that didn’t necessarily translate well into Mandarin, Mr. Obama said that “I should be honest, as President of the United States, there are times where I wish information didn’t flow so freely because then I wouldn’t have to listen to people criticizing me all the time.”

Obama Talks Internet Freedom, China Censors
President Obama, not afraid to confront China on their territory and criticize their censorship of the Internet gave some reality to these young Chinese students.
Apparently all the doors were left unlocked also for some reason.

‘I am a big believer in technology and I’m a big believer in openness when it comes to the flow of information. I think that the more freely information flows, the stronger the society becomes, because then citizens of countries around the world can hold their own governments accountable. They can begin to think for themselves. That generates new ideas. It encourages creativity. And so I’ve always been a strong supporter of open Internet use. I’m a big supporter of non-censorship. This is part of the tradition of the United States that I discussed before, and I recognize that different countries have different traditions. I can tell you that in the United States, the fact that we have free Internet — or unrestricted Internet access — is a source of strength, and I think should be encouraged.’
