Fox News poll: 74% think Palin shouldn’t run

posted at 8:25 pm on September 1, 2011 by Allahpundit

A data point from today’s new national numbers showing Perry leading with 26 percent, Romney with 18, and Palin with eight.

Et tu, tea partiers?

A separate survey conducted by Mark Blumenthal of 151 GOP “power outsiders” (i.e. influential Republicans in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina) found that 81 percent of them also thought she shouldn’t run. Of that group, 76 percent said they agree with her on the issues but just 37 percent thought she could beat Obama if nominated. I’m much less certain of that than they are under the current economic circumstances, but there you go.

All along I’ve assumed that she’d jump in this month but lately I feel less certain. On the one hand, if she wasn’t planning to announce on Saturday, why would her team care whether O’Donnell precedes her onstage or not? That’s a sign that she’s in and wants the optics to be perfect for the big moment. On the other hand, would a new candidate leave the trail next month to fly to South Korea for a speech to the World Knowledge Forum? And what about this, via ABC:

A source close to SarahPAC said Palin’s team was upset by how Tea Party of America organizers hyped the event; Tea Party of America, they believed, was trying to promote the event based on the chance Palin would announce her campaign intentions at the Saturday rally.

Why object to hype suggesting that she’s planning to announce if she really is planning to announce? If she’s worried about the other speakers feeling overshadowed or the tea party’s message being overlooked in the media frenzy over whether she’s jumping in, the obvious solution was to say forthrightly that she won’t be announcing at the event. The fact that she won’t only makes the hype more intense, regardless of what the organizers say or do.

ABC has a preview, in broad terms, of what she’s planning to say Saturday. This could go either way:

A source close to Palin told ABC News that she’ll offer a “full throated defense of the tea party.”

“Regardless of what she decides to do, this rally is for the tea party to kick off this campaign,” the source said, “this” being the 2012 presidential campaign.

ABC News has also learned that Palin’s speech will reference themes from an Aug. 8 Facebook post called “Conquering the Storm.” It discusses the Standard & Poor’s downgrade of the nation’s credit rating and her solutions to the country’s financial woes.

A source close to Palin told ABC News last week that her speech at Saturday’s “Restoring America” event will be a substantive, big-picture vision of America.

That sort of speech could easily end with her saying, “And because the tea party’s vision is so important, I feel duty-bound to try to bring it to the White House next year.” Or it could end with her saying, “The tea party’s vision is bigger than all of us, which is why my supporters should take heart and continue to fight the good fight even though I’ve decided not to run.” Or, I guess, it could end with her saying nothing at all about her candidacy and leaving people to keep wondering, which will be exasperating to everyone but the most devout Palin fan. Exit question: How does this end?

that is what is known as the big lie. the leaners are leaners for a reason. The turnout of ones base and the enthusiasm of said base determine the election. It has always donw so and will always do so. The leaners will always jump on the campaign they think is going to win. and that is determined by the base support. campaing unable to creat excitement and thus no base support fail.

see McCain, Kerry, Gore, Dole, bush the first, Mondale, carter, ford.

It would be much easier to quantify the above claim if we were to know who it is that stays home and then with those people, to subset them with Party affiliation. We have a much better idea and therefore a more precise number of registered Party members than the above.

It’s simple isn’t it? The Democrats don’t want her to run because they don’t want to face her and they don’t want a woman on GOP ticket.
2)The 70% doesn’t want her to run because they back some other candidate. The 30% is her share of primary vote. Very simple.

You are wrong. She has the highest favorables of any Republican candidate among independents. Why she loses to Obama is because apparently “true conservatives ” will vote for Obama if she’s on the ticket. If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you.

“For Palinistas, there’s really no such thing as good-faith disagreement about Palin. There has to be some ulterior motive, some nefarious purpose driving it. Either you “fear” her or you “hate” her or you’re a puppet of the establishment, etc etc etc. There’s always an accusation at the root of it. Sorry if you don’t like to be reminded of that.”

Allahpundit on September 1, 2011 at 9:21 PM

I am a Palinista. Is AP over-generalizing? accusing me of denying the existence of a good-faith disagreement about Palin?

I believe that good-faith disagreements about Palin exist.

Further the good-faith disagreements do not have a nefarious purpose driving them. If they did then they would not be good-faith disagreements in the first place.

If what I have said is true then this refutes the statement “For Palinistas, there’s really no such thing [non-existence of] as good-faith disagreement about Palin.”

I also believe that there are bad-faith disagreements about Palin. I believe that Obama has bad-faith disagreements with Palin and it follows, for me, that bad-faith disagreements exist as well.

PS: (Superfluous to the argument but not entirely irrelevant)

On August 17 I debated a professional liberal atheist activist for one hour. The discussion was civil, polite and illuminating. This particular individual has debated Dinesh D’Souza and is a paid representative of a movement to remove military crosses from war memorials. I am not an active church goer but I believe in religious freedom and that symbols of sacrifice are legitimate forms of expression in War memorials and should not be torn down.

Thanks for typing this so I didn’t have to. I was a little suprirsed by this as well. I am a died in the wool Palinista and feel that I have had many good faith disagreements. I have even defended AP against charges of anti-Palin bias a few times. And despite his comments tonight, I still feel he goes to exceedingly great lengths to be fair to candidates that he might not necessarily like. I have called on other Palin supporters not to bash MB (because I knew it would be unnecessary) and my praise-to-criticism ratio for Perry is about 10:1. Hell, despite claims upthread to the contrary, I have even tried outreach to Ace’s anti-’nista brigade that descends like the plague on most Palin threads. To no avail, of course.

Oh well, what can you do? The funny thing about it is everyone on HA would probably be best friends if they were next door neighbors. Even the ones who are at each other’s throats the most.

Well I am oftimes amazed at your level of decency and level headedness in the face of these circular firing squads. You certainly set a high standard for discourse.

The way I look at it is that we have advocates positioned along a spectrum. Each playing a vital role, like soldiers trained as combatants to counter the multi-variate forms of opposition.

There needs be be those who are more direct, firm and not afraid to reply proportionally to insults. There needs to be the more diplomatic representatives. There is a need for the fact finders, link providers and debunkers. There is a need for those to bring passion into the debate. Accounting and numbers must be added for quantitative comparisons. There has to be troll killers and the more vocal sorts to keep the equally vocal antagonists from overwhelming a thread.

This is why I maintain that generalizations fail to capture the spectral nature of those engaged in the debate. We each have strengths and weaknesses, differing styles of expressing our thoughts, and different levels of education, experience and expertise.

Aside from my silly snarc your point is well taken. It must be frustrating indeed to dwell in a realm so subjective as politics and try to keep your feelings suppressed in the name of objectivity. And then to have you work debased with these food fights must add to the annoyance.

I participated in another blog in which the actual blog posts were often ignored because certain trolls would ruin threads. The individuals who did all the work in crafting the threads never got the recognition they deserved. On occasion the author would chime in and say “Well what did you think of my write up?”

Once the trolls were banned and the discussion was moderated only then did people have time to focus on the quality of the content; and the bloggers got much more signs of encouragement to keep on blogging.

1. The Tea party in every poll overwhelmingly supports Rick Perry.
2. A Fox News Poll is staring you in the face saying over 70 percent of Republicans do not want her to run.
3. Both Michelle Bachmann and Mitt Romney’s numbers combined together from Tea Party support do not equal Perry’s.
4. Boring? Listen, 90 percent or more of the American female population can’t stand it when Palin opens her mouth. Scientific poll? No just my opinion like your’s about Perry’s boring gene.

Let me state first that Ace and I do not get along. The first time I met Ace was at CPAC 2007. When Ace was introduced to me, the first thing he ever said to me was, “You got nice jugs.” True story. Needless to say, it was the last time I ever spoke to him. But bad manners and misogyny aside, his Pam Gellar [sic] post was wrong, nasty and ugly. Do the research and make a case. No, instead he took the shoddy work of some no-name as*hat trying to make his bones on this controversy, and ran wild with it.

Bear in mind, this is the woman who got attention by doing bikini videos and used to pass around business cards of her in a very very tight superman-style t-shirt, with her back arched so that her breasts strained through the fabric.

I don’t intend that as a slam. It’s just true. I suppose at some point I might have expressed annoyance at this, as many male bloggers did in the early days, and even since. If you know your blog history, you know that Wonkette and that gorrrrgeous chick at “Rocketboom” seemed to be getting a lot of attention on the basis of their gender, and their looks.

I have to split my rational and emotional sides here. Rationally, I can say “Good for them, everyone should use every advantage at their disposal!”

Emotionally, look, most male bloggers were annoyed. We all want attention and we all get pissy when someone else, not ourselves, gets it, for whatever reason. There was a saying, of course: T*ts equal hits.

Sarah Palin Confirms Participation in Tea Party Debate
By Christine Thomasos | Christian Post Contributor

Amid much speculation about whether or not Sarah Palin will choose to run in the 2012 presidential election, the former Alaskan Governor has announced she will participate in a nationally televised Tea Party Republican Debate.

Although Palin will take part in the debate in the Sept. 12 debate in Tampa, Fla., she still has yet to confirm that she is looking to become a presidential hopeful. However, the 2008 vice presidential candidate seems to be dropping hints via her Twitter page.

csdeven on September 2, 2011 at 10:25 AM

We have become a nation of losers. When in the hell should any American be told they should not run for POTUS? It’s their right and theirs alone and if Sarah wants to run I’m all for her. Damn the torpedoes and full steam ahead!

Herb on September 2, 2011 at 9:56 AM

I don’t understand that first sentence, but if you think you are a loser that’s alright by me.
No one is saying she shouldn’t run for POTUS, except to save her power.
She shouldn’t run if she wants to maintain her power broker status.
She can run, but if (when) she loses, she will be reduced to a two-time loser…so I guess she would fit your “nation of losers”.
She waited too long to decide, we can’t choose a “nation of uncertain leaders”, she is not decisive, not bold enough, so I suspect she is not going to run.
She had her chance, and she blew it by being politically clever, and we don’t want clever, we want a leader.
Hopefully she won’t continue to play her games, and she finds her way into the next administration, but if she continues to play her games, she becomes toxic. I don’t know who is advising her, but whomever it is, blew it big time.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!! The delusional wing of the St Palin the Victimized congregation have the uncanny ability to outdo their lunacy almost daily!

Here is a statement from the article you linked to:

Although Palin continues to create speculation while making appearances at various tea party events, it is likely she will not make an official announcement about her candidacy until the end of September.

ROTFLMMFAO!!!!

They make statements like this on a regular basis and don’t acknowledge that they have been moving her “announcement” date since July 3rd using the same idiotic rational!

Hahahahahaha!!!

Priceless!

csdeven on September 2, 2011 at 10:33 AM

I still haven’t met a person that will debate Palin on the issues.

unseen on September 2, 2011 at 8:59 AM

Because she is on the sidelines, she isn’t a candidate, you don’t debate someone who is of no consequence.
She could have shown up and debated the other candidates, but she is the one who has chosen not to debate them, not the other way around.
All she had to do was to step up and declare, and they would have welcomed her at the debates, but she didn’t, she chose to sit it out and wait…a lot of people sit and wait…it’s called not making a decision, not being a leader.

Oh look, the maniac a$$hole just can’t help him/her/itself.

All you do is whine and moan about “personal attacks”, while constantly engaging in personal attacks, such as this ridiculous nonsense you just posted aimed at me.

The main point of that story is what I bolded. They say she has announced she is going to participate in that debate.

I haven’t seen their source for it, or any confirmation as of yet so it may not be true. We’ll see if it is.

If it is, it’s big freaking news, whether you of the PalinHater Poster Union Local 69 like it or not.

Now that I have set you straight yet again, please kindly go engage in self-intercourse and do not bother me with your incessant trivial nonsense anymore.

Thanks in advance.

Brian1972 on September 2, 2011 at 10:07 AM

But, but, but, we’ve all been assured that it’s too late for her to even become a candidate, that three-fourths of all conservatives don’t want her to even throw her hat into the ring, and that (per Rasmussen) between one-fifth and two-fifths of all conservatives will actually go out of their way to vote for Obama (and not just stay home or vote third-party) if Palin becomes the GOP’s nominee! We’ve even been told that she’s going to announce on September 3 that she’s NOT running and will endorse Perry! How can she even DO this debate after all the snark we’ve dumped on her!!!! What the hell is she DOING!!!!! Damned attention wh*re needs to go back to Alaska and bake cookies and let the man from Texas take over!

/sarc

The open thread on September 12 is going to be epic. I bet she’ll do extremely well and yet still not change the minds of any of the set-in-stone naysayers on these threads.

Aitch748 on September 2, 2011 at 10:56 AM

Aitch748 on September 2, 2011 at 10:56 AM

The strange thing about this is, the article simply states she has announced she will be in the debate, it does not say anything or link to anything about where this came from.

Did that reporter hear it from SarahPAC?

Where is the announcement in other sources?

CNN has nothing on it.

TPX has nothing on it.

Fox News has nothing on it.

C4P has nothing on it.

Palin’s own Twitter and Facebook have nothing on it.

The more time passes with no one else reporting it, the more I doubt it is accurate.

Aitch748 on September 2, 2011 at 11:21 AM

Yes, it would. After the Iowa speech tomorrow, Palin is flying to New Hampshire to appear at a TPX event.

TPX and CNN are doing that debate, Sept 12.

We’ll see what develops, but right now that one link is the only place with that story, and they don’t link to anyone else anywhere.

I would like for it to be true, certainly.

That surely is the main part of the story to you, but for those of us whom are tired of her game playing, the unwillingness of the delusional supporter to admit that she is playing games is the real story.

Palin, just like all politicians, is to be judged on her actions and not solely on her words. Especially since her words don’t fit her actions.

So spare the group your incessant attacks on those who see Palin for what she is and refuse to drink the koolaid like you have.

csdeven on September 2, 2011 at 1:13 PM

See this?

First, my mental capacity is called into question by asserting I am delusional. I consider that an unnecessary insulting personal attack, which it is.

Then, out comes the victim card because someone whom you just insulted as delusional had the temerity to tell you to go f^*k yourself.

Your game is stale, old and worn out.

It never, ever stops. You can’t help yourself.

If you would like to avoid otherwise courteous people telling you to f^*k off, then perhaps you should consider “sparing the group” these constant belittling insulting attacks from you.

Can you stop? I don’t think you can.

So, in short, f^*k off.

You’ve absolutely earned it.

Right, and 20% of conservatives would vote for Obama (rather than sitting out the election or vote third party), and another 19% would at least consider voting for Obama, if Palin is the nominee.

Might as well get ALL the silliness on the table. Hope nobody gets too put out if some of those conservatives then announce that they’ll vote for Obama if Perry is the nominee.
