Great news: Obama hit the golfing trifecta on vacation

posted at 10:05 am on August 25, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Like I said earlier this morning, I don’t begrudge Presidents their opportunities to get out of Washington for a little down time.  Hypocrisy, however, about that down time deserves as much scorn and ridicule as possible.  Earlier this morning, USA Today’s Richard Wolf reported with more than a little snark that Barack Obama achieved an important milestone at Martha’s Vineyard while the world turned, the Atlantic churned, and Tripoli burned:

It took President Obama nearly a week, but he’s played the trifecta: golf courses in the three main Martha’s Vineyard hubs of Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven.

With an earthquake down, a hurricane to come and a revolution in full revolt across the Atlantic, Obama nevertheless did what he likes to do best Wednesday. He golfed. …

White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest gets peppered with questions regularly about whether Obama will cut short his trip, or interrupt it — say, to meet with his national security or economic team as he continues to monitor events in Libya and the sputtering jobs picture. Or simply to avoid Hurricane Irene, which could reach Cape Cod this weekend.

Each time, the answer is the roughly the same: “I don’t know any conversations that have occurred like that at this point,” he said Wednesday.

Brad Dayspring took the opportunity to needle former White House spokesman Bill Burton on Twitter over the report:

@billburton716 more USAT: ..no word on how the president is playing amid natural disasters and international crises. usat.ly/rtisy5

Burton responded with a weird attack, under the circumstances (via the Right Scoop):

.@BDayspring what’s the word on the Speaker’s handicap this summer? Is all the fundraising taking a toll on his swing?

Funny Burton should mention “fundraising.”  As it turns out, Obama has been meeting with some of his biggest donors during his taxpayer-funded vacation on Martha’s Vineyard, as ABC News reported yesterday, including on the golf course:

The presidential foursome on Saturday also included UBS Americas CEO Robert Wolf, a member of the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness and a major campaign donor. Wolf gave the maximum legal contribution to Obama in 2008 and again for 2012, Federal Election Commission records show. …

On Saturday, Obama visited the home of Harvard University law professor Charles Ogletree, who taught both the President and First Lady in law school and regularly summers on the island, according to local press reports.

Ogletree one day earlier co-hosted a Democratic fundraiser – billed as “Voices for Obama” – at Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs, where Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz gave the keynote address.

Then on Sunday, Obama traveled to the West Tisbury mansion of Comcast CEO Brian and Aileen Roberts, where he spent more than an hour mingling at an intimate gathering.

Roberts, who oversees the nation’s largest video and internet company, serves on the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. While FEC records indicate Roberts has not yet contributed to the president’s reelection campaign, one of his Comcast colleagues – executive vice president David Cohen – is a top Obama fundraiser, bundling more than $500,000 for the 2012 campaign so far this year.

And let’s not forget that Obama has already attended one hundred and twenty-seven fundraisers this year, which USA Today noted last week far outpaced the previous two Presidents:

President Obama has headlined 127 fundraising events for himself and others, significantly outpacing the fundraising activity of the previous five presidents during their first terms, new research obtained by USA TODAY shows.

By comparison, President George W. Bush had held 88 fundraisers and President Clinton, 76, at this point in their first terms, according to data compiled by Brendan Doherty, an assistant professor of politicial science at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Doherty, who also studies presidential activity with the non-partisan White House Transition Project, examined fundraising going back to President Carter.

This is one White House and its allies that have absolutely no room to lecture anyone on time spent at golf courses or fundraisers.  Besides, while Boehner has an important position as Speaker of the House, he’s not the nation’s Chief Executive, and the only entity Boehner runs is a Congress that’s on a normally scheduled recess.  If Obama and his allies can’t tell the difference, well … that would actually explain a lot.

Update: Burton is no longer at the White House, of course; he left earlier this year.  He now runs a consultant shop to help elect Democrats to office.  I’ve made the adjustments above.

Yep that PBHO is working hard out on the golf course. Why, in between holes he’s working on the rough draft of his jobs plan to put the 11 million and counting unemployed Americans back to work.

Ok so it’s not really a plan per se, we were informed it will be more like an outline. But a general outline is pretty good too.

I realize that – that little “Factoid” most probably came from the analysis that compared the Apples of President Downgrade’s vacation time to the Oranges of President Bush’s vacation and meetings at his ranch.

And was quickly picked up by Barack the Growth Slayer’s faithful as comparing vacation time to vacation time.

It’s telling that they couldn’t get the numbers to fall the right way with some direct comparisons so they went a little rhetorical sleight-of-hand.

Now if they compared all of President Downgrade’s time playing golf, fundraising, vacation time, etc. to Bush’s that would be a fair comparison – but they didn’t.

You have to wonder why?

I heard on the Weather Channel that NYC hasn’t been hit by a hurricane in over 100 years.

Also–if you live above the 25th floor you experienced increased winds and you can add a category to the storm. A category 1 hurricane on the ground is a category 2 above the 25th floor. If you need to leave, I recommend doing so today. I say that as a Floridian who’s evacuated. You have to leave at least 2 days before the storm is scheduled to hit to avoid bumper to bumper traffic.

Stay safe.

And yes, Obama ought to be in the WH today. This storm is going to have a major impact in disrupting the NE.

Not really

HA HA HA HA NOW BUSH TAKING TIME OFF IS NOT VACATION

It’s not like the leftists behind Barry know they have to work very hard, to get to their target audience. Barry voters really aren’t very bright and all. Take Canatard #1, quoted above. If his leftist betters tell him that spending weekends at home = flying separate private jets to 5 star vacation destinations, then it really means it’s so.

We should be glad leftists aren’t any brighter than the Dave Rywalls and Ernestos of the world. Imagine if they were just bright enough to know how much the Obamas living the lifestyle hurts the true believer’s desire to share the leftist misery. Imagine if leftists were actually smart enough to realize the damage that Barry & the Mrs. do to the cause of Global Warming, and how it’s the same damage that Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggert did to theirs.

No, chip, I’m actaully glad that Dave Rywall isn’t bright enough to be able to make that comparison, and is only able to spout a talking point that some Soros funded group e-mailed him. You should be too.

Most of those Talking Points came from the journalistically discredited C-BS “News”, which was busted in 2004 for using forged documents to try to get their Democrat “candidate” for President elected.

A sample of their Propaganda:

Headline:

Bush Spent 487 Days At Camp David, 490 Days At Texas Ranch.

But when you get to the actual story, you find this:

According to CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller, today’s trip marks Mr. Bush’s 149th visit to the presidential retreat. The planned three-day stay, during which the president is being joined by family and former and current aides, will bring his total time spent at Camp David to all or part of 487 days.

So even if Bush woke up one morning and then immediately left Camp David to return to the White House, C-BS “News” counted it as a full vacation day.

The other major propaganda piece on this came from the WaPo.

Following reports that President Obama phoned Warren Buffett from vacation in Martha’s Vineyard to discuss the economy, The “Oracle of Omaha” is hosting a fund-raiser for Obama’s re-election, billed as an “economic forum,” Page Six has learned. Tickets for the event at New York’s Four Seasons restaurant on Sept. 30 start at $10,000 a head, with VIP tickets a budget-boosting $35,800. Guests get an hour of “Q&A moderated by one of President Obama’s closest economic advisors, Austan Goolsbee.” VIP ticket-holders get a “private reception for about 20 minutes prior to the dinner.” A blurb with the invite adds, “As all guests are seated for dinner, Buffett will go around to all tables and shake hands, then he and Austan will sit for the program and discussion.” What will be discussed is Buffett’s recent highly publicized claim that the wealthy should pay higher taxes. But as one invitee sniffed, “Nothing like advocating tax equality when you are charging $35,800 a ticket.”

Buffet is the new Soros. The latter moved on, as he can’t suffer fools at all. He’s sick of Obama’s ineptness.

Buffet ‘invested’ 5 billion into BoA. I predict that Obama will wish to transition this bank into his infrastructure pipedream. His cronies are likely invested, Buffet first.

The framework of a guideline for an outline of what could – or could not – become a quasi-plan or even a full-blown Plan to render guidance – or not, as the case may be – for the full and complete economic recovery of the country. Or, preparations for a double-dip recession.

Your fans thanked their team for a great season by trashing the city.

BTW, check out this new picture of a giant corn maze here in New Hampshire showing Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas hosting the Stanley Cup.

I could paint your entire country with a brush based on (insert riot here) but of course, that would make me a giant as*hole.

I could point out that 2/3 of the Bruins are Canadian, but that would just make you look stupid.

President Putthead is promoting “green” energy.

Hey, Barry, wait ’til Sunday and tee off downwind–you’ll get a record long drive! Irate Irene has her eye on you! Surf’s up!

You do understand we’re a rampantly socialist country don’t you, dolt?

Dave Rywall on August 25, 2011 at 3:09 PM

Well that explains why you’re such a bitter, illiterate douchebag.

I don’t want to get in a pissing arguement with a fellow canuk(actually I think he must be from Quebec)but I understand that Bush built facilities on his ranch for the secret service. I know the SS would raaaather be on Maaatha’s vineyard, but Bush loved his ranch and loved to share it with all kinds of world leaders. And so they had the same SS coverage in Crawford or in Washington.

FORMER President Obama.

Just say that out loud three times and notice how good you feel afterwards.

PappyD61 on August 25, 2011 at 7:58 PM

Sorry if the truth hurts, dickhole. Fact is, Bush worked during much of his vacations. Obama would find it rather difficult to work during all his golf games, dozens of gala evenings, trips to Camp David, and the week he was relaxing while getting his vomit-inducing “peace prize”.

Erm. You do realize that Canada is a big country and this line of taunting is equal to jeering at people in Montana for what happens in NYC?

kim roy on August 25, 2011 at 9:11 PM

Dave is in shock at the moment. If he is NDP his leader has just died leaving behind a mixture of socialists and separatists with no discernible direction. If he is a Liberal, his party has just been exiled into a wilderness of their own making by trying to out tard the tards. Otherwise things are looking up for conservatives in Canada. Harper just quietly returned the old titles of Royal Canadian Navy and Royal Canadian Air Force that were stripped away under Trudeau. Canada is the only western nation to guarantee Israel it will come to its defense militarily. (6 months ago) What is with the rest of you Saudi ball lickers anyway?
