Quotes of the day
posted at 10:54 pm on August 24, 2011 by Allahpundit
“Three years ago DC pundits predicted with glee the demise of Sarah Palin’s political career. This past weekend their tune changed, citing false information that she has made a decision and set a date regarding a future campaign. Any professional pundit claiming to have ‘inside information’ regarding Governor Palin’s personal decision is not only wrong but their comments are specifically intended to mislead the American public. These are the same tired establishment political games that fuel the 24 hour news cycle and that all Americans will hopefully reject in 2012, and this is more of the “politics-as-usual” that Sarah Palin has fought against throughout her career.”
***
“But when it comes to 2012, sources said, even her closest advisers do not know what her decision, or whether she has made one. Her self-imposed deadline is approaching: At the Iowa State Fair earlier this month, Palin told ABC News’ Jake Tapper that September would be ‘a drop-dead time’ for her to enter the race…
“Peter Singleton, the head of the Iowa chapter of the independently run group Organize4Palin who moved to the state almost a year ago to volunteer for the non-campaign, said he doesn’t think Palin will make an explicit announcement Sept. 3. But he believes it will be ‘clear’ from her ‘major’ and ‘important’ speech that Palin is getting into the race.
“Singleton said he thinks the speech will start a ‘conversation with the American people’ and focus on ‘who we are as a people and what’s at stake in this election and what the primary debate will be on our side.’ He said he believes the speech will ‘lay out her vision for the country, returning to the vision of the founders,’ something Palin often speaks about…
“‘People need to leave this event on Sept. 3 and know what Sarah Palin is up to. No more guessing,’ [Craig Robinson] said. ‘A lot of Iowans are convinced she is running because Peter [Singleton] has done a good job. If she doesn’t run, people will be like the people who sold their homes to buy signs warning that the end is coming and it never came. It reminds me of this Palin thing. If she doesn’t run, people will be severely disappointed.’”
***
“There’s never been a candidate to get a more thorough examination by the media, the left, and the right. Sarah Palin has withstood the slings, barbs, bullets, and arrows that would have fallen a lesser person. But even that is no sure thing, given that she has become so familiar as a person to so many Republican voters that she no longer excites a sufficient number as she once did to enter the race in a strong position. 97% name recognition, 12% support, and positive intensity equivalent to Mitt Romney is not a good thing for Sarah Palin.
“I am in the ‘believe it when I see it’ camp. If Sarah Palin gets in, it will make for an even more awesome primary spectacle and will hopefully cause Jon Huntsman’s head to fully explode. What I do know for certain is that if Sarah Palin does not use the September 3rd speech to make clear which way she is headed, I think she will accelerate the number of people holding out hope who decide to go all in for a different candidate. And I don’t think those people, finally frustrated enough to give up, will come back.
“It will, however, give the media an extension on its ability to use Fred Thompson’s entry in 2008 as a useful storyline for 2012.”

Every GOP candidate is derided to the point that GOP voters are tempted to abandon them. It’s almost like it was an intentional strategy…

Palin herself said she would decide by the end of September. Quit making stuff up…
By the way, I’m a real Conservative.
you might want to read what other Conservatives are saying about Rove this morning.

Pffft. Are you talking about me or Rove? I don’t know if I’ll pull the lever for Romney or Perry. I am an unpaid commenter and am not on any “team”. The CNN story* is a perfect illustration of the problem she herself has created (to the extent it’s a problem – her lashing out indicates that she believe it is). In that one interview she careens from saying that she must “hurry up and decide” to saying she’s not ready to make up her mind. She is responsible for her own actions, her own words, and the speculation which follows. Don’t shoot the messenger.
And may I say that your use of adjectives like “slime” to describe people who have reasonable opinions does nothing to enhance Palin’s reputation or improve your argument.

Saw this last night. Generally liked him before (partly because the left views him as a spawn of Satan) but finally came to realize what a cheap, bargain-bin tool he is.
No doubt in my mind he would have had something negative to say about Palin no matter how she did or didn’t respond to his “running” comment.

Let the head exploding commence… Funny now they are saying Republican’s are tired of her.. Not I.

Karl Rove is losing his edge and he knows it…he’s become great fodder for the blogs to trash him for sport, however. He ain’t all that, and there’s nothing ‘thin-skinned’ about correcting the record forcefully. He does not like to be schooled, it looks like. How’s that for think-skinned, coming on national TV sniping like a 6th grade girl at a non-candidate. Professionalism take a vacation? Only he be in the position to school the folk. I can pick three or four random people in this comments section who can spank his pudgy red caboose six ways from Sunday but I digress. Truth is without politics Rove is just another weird and awkward guy who dates his right hand seriously.

You’re right in regards to the election but we are trying to raise as much money as possible to help Palin in the states that are purple leaning red. I’ll tell you something else, I was invited to speak at a Latina dinner and I would not count Latina women in the Democrat column yet…

Rove has another agenda. He needs a job. It’s not about Sarah. It’s about promoting his profession. That’s why he is so thin skinned. He’s threatened.
If Sarah succeeds in her attempt these overpaid imbeciles like Rove, Dick Morris, and Ed Rollin’s join the ranks of the unemployed. They become dinosaurs. Sarah had the privilege of a front row seat to the ineptitude of how these overpaid morons managed the McCain campaign. She’s is placing their uselessness on display for all the world to see. They are threatened. If you don’t need to waste those big bucks to run for office just think how many more little Hobbits will consider doing so. The American electorate won’t get stuck with the likes of crony capitalists like Mittwit, Perry, Huntsmen, or Ivy League idiots who only are taught how to network while attending these institutions.
Whether you like Sarah or not the one you are forced to admit is that she thinks outside the box. Rove can’t afford for anyone to do that. It threatens his purse.

I don’t know why your links won’t post. There is a specific problem with CNN links posting. As for the Daily Caller (the only one I have checked so far) – what exactly is it that’s “not pretty”? It’s straight-forward reporting and nothing in it is damaging to Rove. Unless you suffer from Palinoia.

Rove has transferred his loyalty, and being the political bulldog that he is, anyone but his liege is a target. Once she has the nomination, he will be talking about how brilliant her preparatory non-campaign was, and how she retained the power of attraction without having to be forced into the box the other candidates put themselves in.
He’s an advisor, and a good one. What he isn’t, is a good commentator. His bias gets in the way of any consideration for objectivity. Someone like a Karl Rove should be applauding an assymetrical non-campaign that gets so much attention these days, instead of criticizing it.
And perhaps that’s it, he’s just got sour grapes because it wasn’t his idea.
Freelancer on August 25, 2011 at 10:12 AM
I wonder if Rove got paid based on how many times he called Palin “thin-skinned”. At least 4 times.

If this were a drinking game I’d drunk much faster on the number of times Palin complains about the “establishment”.

Considering Palin is making her money by acting like a victim I don’t see the problem with Rove making money by pointing it out.

Some are expressing ire against Foxnews due to Rove & that Perino.
Called them Bushbots, LOL
I’ve started backing off of the 5PM and Greta. There was no reason that Greta needed to have Rove on to spew lying motives. Greta will sure want every detail from the GOP members she has on. But she gave a complete pass to Rove.

I think what idesign meant by “TEAM ROMNEY” is that Rove is part of Romney. I’ll add my thot that is Romney>Bush Team, in other words ABP/ABP/ABB/ and on and on:-) NBR= Nobody but Romney

Glad you have picked up on that. Too bad other Conservatives haven’t. There are Latino Conservative sites and I suppose Latina as well. The Conservatives need to cultivate them, instead of giving up without even a fight.

Jayrae on August 25, 2011 at 9:51 AM
Rove already has a job. He is Team Romney/Bush. So therefore it is about Sarah. So with them, it’s NBR(Nobody but Romney) So they want to damage Sarah Palin in anyway they can. Not real complicated if you understand their agenda:-)

Paul-Cincy on August 25, 2011 at 10:23 AM
He most likely got a bonus for that:-)
Rove didn’t surprise me on Greta, but Greta did. She’s usually all over any Republican Senator or House member and very critical. She gave Rove a complete pass. I know she’s a liberal, even tho she tries to be balanced. Problem is she fails a lot, LOL

That’s right… Though, most of them were folks from the McCain/Palin run in 2008… and that gang on losers were trying to use her as a shield to cover their stupid PC/Rino a**es.

That’s on typo to nudge the ball along…

Yeah… She’s acting cause none of that media assassination crap actually happened. And so you know… there is a difference between pointing out left wing LSM bias against one’s self, and playing the victim card.
-
I won’t say she’s never played it at all… but it is far away from her main message, and more so every day. Where it does come into her message she mostly generalizes the basic truth that the lsm cheer lead for Obama and other lefties, while they denigrate conservative thought, policies and principles… not to mention TEA Party members…
-
http://blogs.reuters.com/james-pethokoukis/2011/04/16/palin-in-madison-veni-vidi-vici/
-
I don’t remember at any point in her Madison speech her even hinting at a ‘personal victim’ message… BTW she was by most accounts being booed so loudly by the union thugs that it was hard to imagine she could be heard beyond the first few rows… and when she did defend… she was defending Walker and conservatism… Not whining about her own mistreatment.
-
This ‘thin skinned’ meme is old news. Mostly it developed because what she and her supporters were seeing in 2008, and were reporting on, was that the assassination attempt against of Sarah Palin seemed to know no bounds… even in the 4th estate… people just made sh*t up. So her opponents just rolled out the thin skinned meme…
-
Pointing something out is not the same as playing the **** card.
-
Lastly… Sarah is making money from her fame. She’d better. I want her to do what I want every body else in this county to do… Go for the GOLD! But you’re totally wrong about why she has that cash flow… It’s because she is a fighter, the Mama Grizzly, and has been taking it to Barry the Zero ever since she landed on her feet after the 2008 campaign.
-
You guys need a new talking point…

Fox needs to buy out its contract with Rove and quit giving him a mic.
He is a woman trapped in a man’s body and he is a political hack trapped in a 1990s – early 2000s political paradigm.
Rove’s GOP had nothing to do with the House and Senate landslide victories in 2010 and it will similarly have nothing to do with its prodigious victories in 2012.
And he is sick to see his arch-rival in the lead for the GOP nod.
Rove is little more than an anachronism at this point.

I agree with your post. I’ve never seen Sarah Palin “acting” as a victim, nor have I ever heard any “woe is me” from her.
Rove and the others for these three years of unspeakable attacks against her and her family have tried to accomplish several things.
Destroy her and Define her. They have failed in both.
What they have accomplished is to reveal to the American People and the World how evil they are. Their tactics are like the returning boomerangs and rightly so.
