Obama team to Texas Democrats: It’s time to start attacking Rick Perry

posted at 8:45 pm on August 24, 2011 by Allahpundit

Forget today’s Gallup poll. If you want a solid sign that Perry’s achieved at least parity with Romney, here it is.

“Your feedback will help hold him accountable on the campaign trail, inspire fellow Texans to get involved, and introduce his record — his actual record — to voters across the country,” Hector Nieto, the campaign’s Texas director, told Texas supporters by email blast today. “Your words will remind him that even as he runs, he won’t be able to hide — a lesson he apparently hadn’t learned as recently as last week. That’s when his campaign explained that the positions he took in the book he wrote just nine months ago, like saying that Social Security is unconstitutional and `a crumbling monument to the failure of the New Deal,’ no longer represent his views.

“But what other Americans are just starting to learn about — and, frankly, reject — Texans have dealt with for more than a decade. It’s up to us to make sure he doesn’t get to run away from the truth.”

Nieto’s email says hundreds of Texans have already shared their dim views on Perry, directing critics to an online form where they can suggest their own favorite “failed policies” for which he should be held accountable.

Yes, they really do have an online form just for this on Obama’s campaign site. I’m intrigued by the fact that they’re not content to rely on standard oppo research in this case but want man-on-the-street grumbling from Texas liberals instead. Is that because they’re deeply (and understandably) worried about voters being dazzled by Texas’s record on jobs and think that only “eyewitness testimony” from the locals disputing it will be effective? Or is it because Perry has a huge, obvious populist advantage over President Spock such that only fellow salt-of-the-earth southerners might be able to counter it? The “Rick Perry is the liberal antichrist” message will only go so far; to reach undecided voters, they need to start casting doubt on his heartland authenticity too. Rank-and-file Texas Democrats can help.

Speaking of cultural contrasts, here’s a photo that was tweeted today by David Limbaugh. It’s clever, but (a) there’s already an obvious liberal counterattack and (b) it’s easier to get traction with the “noble serviceman versus slacker dandy” comparison if the slacker dandy in question didn’t give the order to shoot Osama Bin Laden in the face.

By “actual record” they must mean the harsh, propagandized, exaggerated and fictionalized version of his record.

hisfrogness on August 24, 2011 at 8:49 PM

Gee, “Hardball” had Perry’s opponent from 2 elections ago he creamed. I can’t believe he’d be un-biased. (Even Ron Reagan had this look on his face listening to him that said “Yep, it was stupid to have you on. I see why you lost.”)

The TExas Dem legislators have already been on the attack, and they have a stupid site slandering TX too. Effing traitors. I assume they’re working with Obama, just as the AK Dems worked with him against Palin.

BTW, the the TX Dem party spokeswoman is is a real dumba5s. She’s the one who’s tried to make an issue of Perry spending $1k on window treatments, and she’s the nitwit who said Perry made his announcement in SC because he was afraid to face the angry mobs in TX. The whole ‘Obama deserves credit for getting bin Laden’ argument is kind of stupid, in my opinion. If Strawberry Shortcake were president at that particular moment in time (when our intel and SpecOps guys found him), she would have given the same order.

Oh brother this really means Perry is unelectable and needs to get out of the race.

Knucklehead on August 24, 2011 at 9:03 PM

Bwa ha ha ha…

What happened to Obama’s campaign team wanting to face Perry?

The Texas governor, a social and fiscal conservative, is seen by Obama’s top election campaigners and fundraisers as easier to beat than the more moderate Mitt Romney in the presidential election.

“I was praying Perry would get in the race,” said a former White House aide closely linked to Obama’s campaign.

This is my takeaway:

The Obama Campaign team has already sealed up its talking points and oppo research against Romney. If the GOP makes the mistake of nominating him, we can consider the contest officially over.

They are now scrambling to try and contain Perry… but I doubt that will work! The guy has survived everything the Dems (and their media accomplices) threw at him since he became Governor in 2000. Think it will work now?

Schadenfreude on August 24, 2011 at 9:04 PM

This is why Team Obama is afraid of Rick Perry.
From Ontheissues.org.

Total repeal and dismantling of ObamaCare

No issue is more critical for the defense of freedom and the American way of life than the preservation of our free-market health care system and the total repeal and dismantling of so-called Obamacare. It is an example of everything that is wrong with the modern administrative state.

At its core, Obamacare represents the closest this country has ever come to outright socialism.

Obamacare mandates that Americans must go out and buy government-approved health insurance. I defy anyone to show me the clause in the Constitution that gives Washington the authority to do this.

Yes, Obama gave the order for a U.S. Navy Seal to shoot bin Laden in Pakistan, and he gave that order from the safety of his SS-guarded mansion in Washington, D.C., after reportedly dithering about it for 16 hours as he contemplated how it might affect his re-election bid.

Team Obama’s strategy has always been to run a 2008-style campaign with respect to laying off the Republican candidate until the general. Their hope was (and remains) that the GOP would be dumb enough to nominate a RINO candidate, Romney/Huntsman etc… (ala McCain) in the name of media-hyped “electability”.

Unfortunately, for them, the Tea Party happened in 2010 and now conservatives are going all out to put forward a “conservative candidate” who will change Washington. No more RINOs!

And that has Obama/Dems/media/RINOs all running scared…

We’ve been through it for the last 3 years. lol. Where have you been? Our candidate has been fully vetted while Perry is a timebomb waiting to go off.

promachus on August 24, 2011 at 9:10 PM

Out seeing the world for a good part of it.

Knucklehead on August 24, 2011 at 9:20 PM

We are not worried. Perry wont back down or quit on us.He will march on all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Southernblogger on August 24, 2011 at 9:12 PM

Good spirits! Icing on the cake will be if he asks to move into Blair House one month early. Let it come back to bite Mr. and Mrs. Arrogant in the tush.

Southernblogger on August 24, 2011 at 9:18 PM

You’re the one with the unvetted, uninterviewed and undebated idol marching to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, and you’re calling ME the cultist? LOL

The Osama Obama pitbull team won’t have that hard a time finding nasty rumors, twisted facts and downright B.S. to throw at Perry: all they have to do is comb the comments here at HA for the crap being ladled out against Perry by the demented Paulbots and twisted Palinoids.

MrScribbler on August 24, 2011 at 9:13 PM

Don’t worry, if I know my Democrats right, they’ll be able to find a number of people of all kinds who say they’ve slept with Perry. And given his reputation, I’d expect a parade of them. He reminds me of Slick Willy rather than Dubya in that regard.

promachus on August 24, 2011 at 9:21 PM

“Speaking of cultural contrasts, here’s a photo that was tweeted today by David Limbaugh. It’s clever, but (a) there’s already an obvious liberal counterattack and (b) it’s easier to get traction with the “noble serviceman versus slacker dandy” comparison if the slacker dandy in question didn’t give the order to shoot Osama Bin Laden in the face.”

Allah:

..whatevs; the tank must be pretty empty if the liberal “counterattack” consists of a photo-shopped pic of two Republicans shown as former USAF pilots versus one of that past-juvenile-delinquent snot rag with a barrette dangling from his lips.

The picture(s) could be iconic — you know, like that silly-asssed picture of John Kerry “reporting for duty” or the goofy video of Mike Dukakis riding around in that tank?
